Steve Chase: Reflections and Observations from a Trip to Israel and Palestine
We continue to learn about the current situation and history of Palestine and Israel, through the experiences of people who know and love the people and place. On November 12, 2023, Steve Chase (formerly of Putney, VT, Friends Meeting) presented his reflections and observations from his summer trip to Israel and Palestiner. Steve is the author of the Pendle Hill Pamphlet, Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions? A Quaker Zionist Rethinks Palestinian Rights. The visit was a FUM “living letters” trip led by Max and Jane Carter. Max and Jane are both members of North Carolina Fellowship of Friends.Want to share your thoughts on our podcast content? Carl Magruder: Facing Our Fears of the Great Unraveling
Quaker chaplain and Earth Quaker Carl Magruder speaks about the Great Unraveling that is taking place now as the breakdown of the industrial growth society that we know, and the possibility of the Great Turning toward a life-giving and life-sustaining order. During this time of the Great Unraveling and the Great Turning (terms used by Joanna Macy), it is normal to experience grief and fear. Carl teaches the wisdom in accepting our grief and facing our fears in order to recognize and contribute to the courageous and prophetic ways necessary to bring in a new way of life. This video is excerpted from a February 2020 Nurturing Faithfulness interview conducted by Marcelle Martin. The video editor is Cai Quirk. Karie Firoozmand supported the editing. The project received funding from the Obadiah Brown and Sarah Swift Benevolent Fund and the Legacy Fund in New England Yearly Meeting (Quakers).Want to share your thoughts on our podcast content? Craig and Megan Jensen: Sun Moon Farm
In this interview we hear from Quaker farmers Megan and Craig Jensen, who are also educators and builders of community. They met in 2003 while working for the Meeting School in Ringe, NH. In addition to growing food, they served that Quaker educational community as teachers, house-parents and cooks. When the school closed in 2011, they began farming the land, growing vegetables and flowers. They have connected with a wider community through their CSA and also by co-founding a small cohousing neighborhood called The South of Monadnock Community, through membership at Monadnock Friends Meeting (Quakers), and by connecting and cooperating with other local farmers. In this interview, they describe the spiritual inspiration for their call to farm the land in a sustainable way, in connection with circles of community. They speak of the need for everyone to ground themselves in the reality of what is needed to sustain life, and they tell stories about facing the changes and challenges that climate change is bringing, with simplicity, wise use of resources, humility, good relationships, and joy. This interview contains an invitation to engage in their ongoing ministry and to support it.
