A few years ago, Vicky Paladino told her husband to stop the car so she could get out and yell at Mayor Bill de Blasio, who was in her Queens neighborhood for a photo op. Two NYC lawyers and and upstate woman are face federal charges in Molotov cocktail attacks on NYPD. Crazy old dude chases BLM protesters with 4-blade Wolverine glove, after they hurl bottles and insults at the man's passing car in Whitestone. A lenient judge releases a looter without bail after he was arrested for bashing an NYPD cop over the head with a large bong he'd just stolen from a nearby smoke shop. The cop had a concussion and large gash on his head and had to spend several days recovering.

As the dust settles on the riots, in which 450 businesses were looted in the 5 boroughs, more light-hearted protests continue and, as Seth Barron points out, there's a good reason for that: The NY State Governor Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio have determined that protesting the police is the ONLY sanctioned activity, and the only way people in NYC are legally allowed to gather in groups!  No doubt, this increases attendance, especially among younger New Yorkers who are sick of not hanging out with their friends. Thousands have been gathering in Brooklyn and in Washington Square Park in the Village, whether they support the cause or not. Meanwhile, in front of a few city bars, where liquor can legally be sold to go during this time, people congregated in small groups to enjoy the warmer weather and shake off lockdown fatigue, some of them socializing in public for the first time in months. After the city and Gov Cuomo gave the protesters their blessing to march, chant and sometimes loot and vandalize businesses throughout the city for two weeks, law-abiding New Yorkers figured they were due some slack. Nope. Gov. Cuomo sternly admonished New Yorkers, threatened to revoke liquor licenses of bars, harass anyone socializing outside bars or in parks and publicly told the mayor that if he didn't get a handle on things, the state would step in and cancel the reopening of businesses and send us all back to our apartments, as punishment (er.. to keep us all from dying of COVID19.) "Thought Crimes" director Erin Carr was interviewed for this SPECIAL.  Gilberto Valle aka "Cannibal Cop" was an NYPD police officer. He was arrested and charged with conspiracy to kidnap, rape, murder, cook and eat his wife and a number of other women. The FBI had emails and chats with his conspirators, pictures and details of the plots, all obtained from his laptop.  He was convicted, and was looking at the possiblity of a life sentence. But his sentence was overturned because a judge finally realized that everyone was completely hysterical. These were thought crimes.

Joe Lozito was riding the 3 train to work when a guy suddenly stabbed him in the face. It turned out the guy who stabbed him was a spree killer who was wanted for 4 murders, and every cop in the NYPD was on high alert.  Joe was able to subdue the mad killer. Two uniformed cops stood by the whole time and did nothing to intervene. Joe was stabbed 7 times in his struggle with Gelman, and cops were painfully slow to secure medical attention after it was over. Joe nearly died.  All in all, it was an appalling display of police work which nearly cost a husband and father of 2 his life.  A corrupt judge helped ensure that Joe's suit against the city wouldn't go forward. For saving an untold number of lives by taking down a killer when the police wouldn't, Joe never received so much as a thank you. This podcast is dedicated to the Subway Hero: Joe Lozito.
