Ep106 - Jack Mayberry
What’s great about Jack Mayberry is that he’s exactly who you think he is. He’s a polished comedian who’s been capitalizing on his Southern charm for decades. Originally from rural, west Texas, Jack served in the Marine Corps and then after an honorable discharge went on to do an even more demanding job: morning radio disc jockey. In 1984, Jack got on stage for the first time in Houston, Texas. After 5 short years he packed his bags for Hollywood and soon found himself as regular on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and then later with Jay Leno. What helped him make over 20 appearances on The Tonight Show? His uncanny resemblance to Ross Perot. Lucky guy.www.jackmayberry.comwww.allthingscomedy.com

Claude Stuart might be new to fatherhood, but he’s old hat in the comedy world. He’s been doing stand up since his college days and has impressive TV credits like Scrubs, That 70’s Show, Will & Grace and Still Standing. What prepares someone from rural Mississippi into the hustling world of stand up comedy? A school for “special” kids of course. And in our eyes, Claude is definitely special.

Cindy Burns, the Anti-Aging comedian might just be one of the best people in Hollywood. She’s a mom, a grandmother and a true fighter in every sense of the word. She’s been doing stand up for decades, married for longer and after a recent cancer diagnosis, she’s still moving and shaking making her dreams come true. She runs one of Kira’s favorite shows in the world, The Funniest Housewives. She’s been on Oprah, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and right before Joan Rivers passed, Cindy was hand picked by her to get mentored and inspired her to never give up. You should be impressed with anyone who has three names. It takes a special someone to really pull that off. Katie Massa Kennedy is no exception. She’s an amazing performer, a talented writer, mother, wife and New Yorker. All those things make her comedy out of this world funny. She's worked on everything from Hannah Montana to Fashion Police to The Queen Latifah Show. She’s created memorable sketch characters, her own one woman show and produced numerous stand up nights along the way. When you look at Nicole Blaine please don’t assume anything. Seriously. Don’t. She might look sweet, petite and just as naive as the virgins she has on her monthly westside show “The Virgin Sacrifices”, but she’s anything but that. She’s a bawdy mom of two who has seen it all. You want to hear a crazy story about drug addiction? She’s got a good one. Love a good porn parable? She’ll shock you with one. How did she make it out alive and into the safe arms of stand up comedy? She thanks her husband for one, and of course her one woman show for helping her find her way. www.nicoleblaine.com

Danielle Koenig was born into show business, works in show business and married into it as well. We think that makes her a pretty good source on all things Hollywood. But she just takes it all with a grain of salt. Kira and Danielle reconnected on the set of Parental Discretion where Danielle was a writer and they reminisced about their early days of stand up, how they both belong to a “not so great club” and what it’s like to raise boys… in show biz.

Ep100 - Tom Dreesen
It's the 100th episode! And who better to celebrate with than a true comedy veteran like Mr. Tom Dreesen. Not only did Tom give Kira wonderful stand up advice, very useful parenting advice, but he also had a list of smarty smart books to read that would put even the most obsessed self help junkie to shame. Tom's career has taken many twists and turns over the years. He first began as part of the first bi-racial comedy team with Tim Reid. What would be the next step for him to take? Well, to tour with Frank Sinatra all across the country of course. Tom has made over 500 appearances on national television as a stand-up comedian, including more that 60 appearances on The Tonight Show. And did you know if you want to disrespect Tom, you could actually piss on him? That's right. In 1999, he received a Golden Palm Star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars. But I wouldn't recommend it. He's from Chicago. He knows people.

Ep99 - Ty Barnett
Ty Barnett is one of the most funny, relaxed, comfortable-in-his-own skin comedians you'll ever meet. And if that's any indication to his parenting style, then his daughters are extremely lucky. He got one of his first breaks on the re-vamped Star Search, and then years later was a runner up on Last Comic Standing (season 4). Kira and Ty reminisce about the early days when they met at the Seattle Comedy Competition, Ty's old stomping ground. Kira's tries to ask him for gas money that he owes her from when she drove him around Los Angeles while he was wheeling and dealing in Hollywood.Website: https://www.rooftopcomedy.com/comics/TyBarnettFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/comediantybarnett

Ep98 - Lisa Ann Walter
The always lustful Lisa Ann Walter sits down in the studio and bares her soul to Kira. Well, not her soul, but definitely her breasts. And who would want to hide those delightful double D's?! Not Lisa! She started her stand up career in New York City as a new, young mom. Lisa took the scene by storm and within a few short years she landed her own Fox comedy series, My Wildest Dreams, followed by an ABC sitcom, Life's Work, which she both created and starred in. After two marriages, 4 kids and countless movies and television shows, Lisa Ann continues to kick butt. Speaking of, her book The Best Thing About My Ass Is That It's Behind Me is available now on Amazon!

Ep97 - Don McMillan
Not only is Don one of the tallest people in stand up, he has the most Bandwidth, if you know what I mean. We sat down with some cups of JavaScript, he let down his Firewall and we dug way deep into his Memory Module. The winner of the 16th Annual San Francisco International Stand-Up Comedy Competition in 1991, Don went on to be $100,000 Grand Champion on “Star Search” in 1993. He’s had numerous television appearances including “The Tonight Show” on NBC, CNN’s “The Larry King Show”, MTV’s “Half Hour Comedy Hour”, and A&E’s “Evening at the Improv”.

Ep96 - Mindy Rickles
What kind of childhood does one have when your father is affectionately known as Mr. Warmth? Probably very acerbic, and I don't think Kira's guest Mindy Rickles would have it any other way. New to the stand up scene, but already making her mark on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Mindy discusses what is what like to grow up the daughter of a Bullet-Head and how she really can't find the energy to raise her two young boys. Thank goodness her husband cooks and cleans for everyone.

Ep95 - Sunda Croonquist
When you talk to Paterson, NJ native Sunda Croonquist you realize there's not much this comedian and mom of two hasn't seen or done. Sunda embraces her half black, half Swedish background. This former pageant queen turned probation officer/detective converted to Judaism and now has to suppress her government housing upbringing with her high-rise, private school married life. A good comedian knows that the more honest a joke, the better it is. Sunda's honesty about her Jewish in-laws actually took that honesty to court and tried to sue Sunda for defamation of character, resulting in a dismissal. Hear Sunda flex her 1st Amendment rights all throughout this podcast.

Lawrence Thomas is from Louisville Kentucky, so you know he must have great stories about the derby, sluggers and chicken. Besides that, he has a family with many hidden talents and demons. But isn't that what makes a great comic? He's currently divorced and estranged from his teenage daughter and Lawrence discusses how that motivates him to work harder and never give up on comedy or rehabilitating his relationship with his kid.

Todd Rexx (yes his real name) is affectionally known throughout the comedy community as T-Rexx. He could not be more opposite of his fierce predatory nickname. Todd is a sweet father of three who enjoys his suburban life style. He's worked with comedy super stars like Jerry Seinfeld, David Allen Grier, Dave Attell, Jeffery Ross, Ray Romano, Chris Rock, Bernie Mac, Russell Peters, Dave Chappelle, Craig Robinson and Bill Burr. His comedic pursuits landed him his own headline gig, “The Todd Rexx Show” at the world famous Palms hotel and casino in Las Vegas, NV. But if you asked him, he could also just take a night in of snuggling on the couch with his kids and let his corporate wife be the bread winner.

Ep88 - Jeff Schimmel
I think Shakespeare said it best when he wrote: "Some are born funny, some achieve funniness, and others have funny thrust upon them." This might describe comedy veteran Jeff Schimmel to a tee. He was born into a funny family, his brother is the late comedian Robert Schimmel, and then Jeff achieved funny on his own by writing for a comedy legend the late Rodney Dangerfield. Then, he ultimately had comedy thrust up on him when he took writing jobs on shows like Full House and Mind Of Mencia.

Ep87 - Lahna Turner
If stand up is like sex, Lahna Turner is the KY lubricant. Lahna, a mother of two, reminisces with Kira about their early days doing open mics, dating her now husband comedian Ralphie May, and how being dirty on stage can be done so sweetly. Her one hour special: So… I Wrote A Song About It is out now on iTunes and Amazon. She and hubby Ralphie have their own podcast as well called The Perfect 10. Her thin frame makes up the ONE and his larger frame makes up the ZERO. One of the few comedy couples that are truly successful because they know laughter is really what keeps people together.

Ep86 - Jack Coen
Kira gets to gab with and then grill her former boss from The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Jack Coen. A father of two, Jack talks about his early years as a comic, television writer, and then ultimately landing the coveted head writer and producer position during one of the most controversial late night debacles in television history. Jack is surprisingly candid with Kira while he compliments her work at the Tonight Show and then casually admits some regrets he has during his tenure there. How does Jack go from corner office at The Tonight Show to cornering bookers for stand up spots in the club? It's a great episode where Kira learns a lot about the business, parenting all while getting the closure she needs.

Ep85 - Brad Garrett
Brad Garrett is a real winner. And a real star. Ed McMahon told him so when Brad became the first $100,000 grand champion winner in the comedy category on Star Search. That was back in 1984. Thirty years later Kira sits down with him at his Malibu home over looking the Pacific Ocean and more picture frames than an Aaron Brothers showroom. Best known for his award winning performance as Robert Barone on the outstanding sitcom "Everybody Loves Raymond”, Brad is now winning laughs and new fans as the proprietor of his own comedy club at the MGM in Las Vegas, Brad Garrett’s Comedy Club. Very familiar with the comedy scene in Las Vegas, Brad reminisces about his start opening for greats like Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and Smokey Robinson. Brad offers up some advice on how to keep his two kids from getting spoiled, how to handle high profile divorces all while giving Kira a glimmer of hope that he might read one of her scripts one day.

There was a flurry of excitement once he landed at The Comedy Store in LA. He's an amazing musician, comedian, singing impressionist, husband, dad. And remember that whole puppy thing? Having Mark in studio is like having a hundred puppies spoon you at the same time. He's performed with Jackson Browne, Melissa Etheridge & Toad the Wet Sprocket. Not impressed yet? Well how about jamming alongside members of The Doors, Fleetwood Mac, Boston, No Doubt, The Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan? Ok, ok. Ep77 - Ritch Shydner
There are a few key comedians Kira credits with inspiring and reinforcing her desire to pursue stand up comedy. 1) The first time she saw Mork from Ork sit on his couch using his head 2) The first time she snuck into a movie theater to see Eddie Murphy's Raw. 3) The first time she lied about her age and illegally a headliner at a real comedy club. His comic persona was of a naive immigrant from the Soviet Union who was perpetually confused and delighted about life in the United States. In 1992, he bought his own theater in Branson, Missouri, where he still performs and hosts. In the late 1990s, prompted by his own divorce, he retooled his stand-up act to focus on the differences between men and women, and on solving problems within relationships.Smirnoff is also a professor at Missouri State University and Drury University where he teaches "The Business of Laughter."
