Eric and Richelieu are busy at their real jobs, but we manage to call Ryan!

Take a listen to Ryan and Dave get as deep and emotional as two males can get. It’s been an interesting year for comedy, with some obscure and underground concepts becoming mainstream. These days people seem to be more educated around comedy issues. They know where the clubs are, they can name more than 5 comedians, there’s stand up on Netflix etc. So there’s really no excuse. We decided to give thanks for what we have... instead of looking over the imaginary wall to see how the ‘Joneses’ are doing. The key element? Stay in your lane. Your journey has to be owned and followed by you. And it holds true in comedy as much as in life. Eric was at work making Black Friday announcements.

(In order of appearance) Brandon McKay, Robin-Lee Jones, Eric Jansen and Thabiso Mhlongo. We also phoned Dave who was in Durban looking for Eric's biological mermaid parents.

This week Eric actually delivers comedy news, Brandon lies about the health benefits of beer, and Gilly Apter returns to the podcast because she loves it so much. Or we ran out of guests? Waking Gino Fernandez up at 9am is maybe not the best idea. But he was very kind to help us with a premier list of comedians heading off to The Grahamstown Fest. Then a rare treat as health specialist Dr Alwyn Fouché (Hannes Brummer) joins us, and puts two fingers deep into the SA Comedy scene for a check-up. We also made a list of the healthiest comedians in the country. Mel Miller and Alyn Adams made the list somehow. Also, we are not very good at lists.

This hour went by way too quickly and we will definitely have Ntosh back! His CV is filling up nicely with movie roles - both serious and comedic, and he has a commanding presence on comedy club stages. Finding a reason to go to work is something everybody has dealt with. But when you meet Ntosh you realise what focus and passion can do for your career.

Loyiso Madinga joins us halfway into the show to chat about Grahamstown Fest. But the real star is Caroline Barole - an amazing singer who has a collaborative album out. We also decided to hold her live 'audition' to become the new #justnow presenter... with an awkward interview with herself.

The entire JUSTNOW team are at a beer festival in Benoni to break a world record for Beer Pong. So we get to mingle with our 'podfans' in person. Brandon is now legally single as he signs a contract after Breakfast Beer Club. Eric had no idea what #Covfefe was, so we learned some stuff on the show. And called Kurt Schoonraad about rumours of a random cake arriving at his comedy club... it easily becomes a 5-minute comedy sketch.

Seventeen years ago at a comedy club in Obs, Fred Strydom was trying his hand at stand up comedy... now he uses his hands to write books, and he's making major waves as an author. He even owns a typewriter. To have an actual author on the podcast is a real coup for us. We were so excited we even forgot to research the book that Fred wrote - 'The Inside-Out Man'. But luckily that made the interview more interesting.

Some of our most popular comedians have appeared in TV commercials. Jason Goliath, Rob van Vuuren, Laz Gola, and Chris Forrest to name a few. Do clients and directors make use of the comedians' natural timing? Does utilising comedians help make ads funnier? It’s been a while since an ad on TV or any media really tickled us. So we find out where the funny is hiding in advertising. We speak to Kenneth Sun from Flint Studio, who gives free advice for anybody trying to use humour in an ad. Alan's first words 9 seconds into the show: "This looks like absolute chaos!" But it's always a pleasure when one of the hardest working comedians in the country agrees to come and play with us. He's a teacher, actor, director, international stand-up... and he's in a show running at the Pieter Toerien Theatre called 'The Play that Goes Wrong'. But the podcast actually went right for a change!

Comedians have a tight connection with sex and we explore the ins and outs of it. Wetting your appetite with Glen who hosted 4 days of live sex last year dressed as Frank N. Furter! This morning we went hard at a marathon 2-hour session, and with these quality guests we could have squeezed in 3!

Names you can't pronounce. When Nqoba asks you to do a silent comedy show... you invite him to the podcast to explain! Eric pronounced Nqoba's name correctly, Dave not so much. Richelieu Beaunoir - one of our podcast favourites - popped in to keep us up to date on the Durban beef rumours. And we pulled our chokes out to keep the show idling nicely.

We managed to convince London comedy act Archie Maddox to stay in the studio for a full hour, while some listeners accused him of sounding like a tea-drinking construction worker! Then we get Stuart Taylor out of bed to tell us why we should watch the Big 5 Comedy show at Monte over the Easter weekend. And we ask our 7 listeners to come up with a new name for the podcast!

Gilli, Prins, Eric and Lihle Lindzy talk about all things currently affecting society. Trevor Noah, Donald Trump, Nicki Minaj, birthdays, gigs, women in comedy and everything else. The gist of the show: Get more ladies doing comedy!

An actual radio professional joins the team. Catherine Grenfell rates the show and they get one and a quarter points! Which is good, and they will grow the show based on her suggestions... the main one being to get rid of Dave. Dax, the owner of 'The Green', talks about his amazing ideas to revive golf clubs and their attempt at breaking the record for cups drunk at a beerfest. 6000! Enjoy.

Eric has Lloyd Niemandt and TV personality, voice over artist, and all round cool girl Elle Franc in studio. They talk about all things entertainment, awards, and the life of someone who does D.I.Y. Insightful, funny and all out entertainment - straight into your earholes!

On a point of order, Eric speaks to Prins, Gilli Apter, and Bongani Dube about the happenings during the State of the Nation Address. Points raised, fights in house and the structure of the country (from a comedy perspective obviously) are brought up - as well as the foundation of women in comedy. The team decides to be more organised and almost get it right. They celebrate their first Whats App message, even though it points out their lack of organisational skills - which is exactly why they have Lloyd Niemandt in to see what he can do for them, because he runs a recording studio! BBC was the most structured it's ever been, and boring, so they're never doing it again. They also try to compile a Forbes Money list of SA Comics.

The guys try to get the WhatsApp text number out again, but Eric talks too fast. And he surprised everyone by bringing his Pilot brother onto the podcast. Brandon wants to be boring and watch football on NYE, and Dave thinks they woke Jason Goliath up to chat about NYE comedy gigs. When a German Pakistani Muslim comedian walks into a podcast... we have a Christmas beer tasting obviously! How do you start a comedy gig? The team gets sound advice from Warren Robertson. And... for the first time, an actual brewer is on the show for Breakfast Beer Club. Greg Slade tells us about a new beer on the market. Also Dave's kid made cupcakes for Eric's 21st birthday. And Thabiso Mhlongo tries some of his roasts out for the Comedy Central Roast finals!

The guys try to avoid the Trump topic as much as possible but he pops up in the end. Thabiso Mhlongo joins the team again to talk about the Comedy Central Roast battle next week. A new segment called 'Talk Kak for a Minute' on a random topic is introduced. Eric Jansen decides to explain the lyrics to 'Panda' by Desiigner... so now you know. The past few weeks have seen some comedy festivals pop up around the country. Dave catches up with Brendan Murray, organiser of the comedy stage at Rocking the Daisies. It's been a massive drawcard for the last 10 years. He also chats to Rabin Harduth, the brains behind the Clarens Comedy festival. Robby Collins has just returned from the biggest comedy festival in the world in Canada... we had no idea how Zen he is. His approach to comedy and life in general is very enlightening. The Clarens Comedy Festival is on this week so we chatted about some strange places we end up in to make people laugh.

Gold teeth, golden bananas and sushi. This was our most culturally enriched show to date. We delved into Suhayl Essa's original slave history, and then went South to find out about Nkosinathi Maki's theory on domestic workers' double lives. And murderous family members! As usual Dave butts in mostly and we didn't get to any kind of resolution... and we had Breakfast Beer!

Comedy Central Channel 122 arrived in SA almost 5 years ago. We take for granted that a 24-hour comedy channel exists now, but what was their initial plan in SA? And did they achieve their goals? Dave chats to outgoing Comedy Central Vice President Evert van der Veer about his adventures in South Africa as a Dutch visitor... and asks what the future plans are as he makes his way to greener pastures. Suhayl Essa and Rabin Harduth also join the discussion.

The SA comedy industry is really finding its feet in the international arena. We chat to Comedy Central Creative head Ryan Harduth about everything businessy and we talk about the Durban Comic Richelieu Beaunoir.

On the eve of the Comics' Choice Awards the guys were meant to interview some of the nominees and have a quiet chat about comedians and their social media plans. But when you invite a few comedians into the studio you forget that some of them hang with an entourage! What it turned into was the most fun Dave has had on this podcast so far. So Eric Jansen, Chris Mapane, Thabiso Mhlongo, Bongani Dube, and Nathi Maki - who drove from Cape Town to be here - filmed it all. And even Gino Fernades joined in. Fallon and Carla from Trioh Promotions were there too to give everyone some social media advice... and then the whole show went pear-shaped right after Breakfast Beer tasting started.

With the Comics' Choice Awards coming up on the 3rd of September, the team chats to some of the nominees for the 'Newcomer Award' - first up... Snooze. And Urzila Carlson, from Benoni (where all famous people originate) - who has been in comedy for 7 years and is currently touring the world - joins us live from New Zealand, during a storm. Sometimes this show takes a direction that was never intended. What started out as a normal comedy interview with Mo Mothebe is abruptly diverted by the deep and brooding muses of Tats Nkonzo. The guys get really heavy on comedy influences and then the podcast ends. All too soon. So expect part two next week.
