How To Intentionally Approach Discipleship With Your Kids This Year
When it comes to our kids, discipleship often feels like this big, intimidating thing that we know we need to do but we’re not quite sure how to do. Right? Here’s the good news, friend: discipleship is actually quite simple, and it’s not something we need to stress about or feel pressure about. It’s less about the big, planned moments and more about you as a parent making the conscious decision to center your life around Christ. When you make Christ the center of your home, discipleship is inevitable. As the apostle Paul said, follow me as I follow Christ. So today we’re going to discuss what discipleship is, why we should care about it, and we’ll talk about two different types of discipleship and how to be sure they are both happening in your children’s lives. So lean in and let’s get into another episode of The Joy Filled Podcast.“These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart. Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Bind them as a sign on your hand and let them be a symbol on your forehead. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your city gates.”–Deuteronomy 6:6-9 CSBJoin the free Joy Filled CommunityFollow the Joy Filled Podcast on Instagram! The Joy Filled podcast is a part of the Christian Parenting Podcast Network. Feeling Overwhelmed in Motherhood? This Might Help.
Overwhelm is something we all face, but it’s not something we need to try to avoid or outrun. You will experience overwhelm in life, that’s a guarantee, but overwhelm is a feeling to acknowledge, not a place to camp out and take on as an identity. So instead of trying to figure out how to avoid it, in this episode we’re going to talk about how to move through it, lean into it and give it the attention it deserves, and continue on forward because just like every other feeling we experience, overwhelm is simply a messenger alerting us that some things aren’t quite right.

The Basics of Prayer: Breaking Down the How, Why, and What of Prayer So You Can Transform Your Prayer Life
We’re all trying our best to handle it all, whatever “it” is for you. Motherhood, family, work life. Balancing home and kids and social activities and all the things. It can feel sort of impossible to handle it all, right? Friend, I’ve got good news - you and I were never created to handle it all on our own. We were created to be in community with the Lord, walking with him, working with him, and inviting him into every portion of our lives as we cast our cares on Him.
One of the best ways to truly “cast our cares” is through prayer. So often I hear of women who are afraid to pray or simply don’t know how to pray, so today we are talking all things prayer in hopes that you leave with a clear understanding of what prayer is and how we can apply it to our lives. We’ll talk through things like the basics of prayer, the different kinds of prayer, when and how to pray, and writing out your prayers.

The Friendship Episode! Chatting All Things Making New Friends, Nurturing Lifelong Friendships, and Healing After Friendship Hurt with Elizabeth Laing Thompson
Friendship is TOUGH! There, I said it. Today on the podcast, Elizabeth Laing Thompson is joining us to talk through all the questions we’ve all been asking about friendship - how to make new friends, how to nurture lifelong friendships, and what to do when friendships fall apart.
In Elizabeth’s brand new book When a Friendship Falls Apart, she comes alongside readers as they process their struggling friendships—the faltering, the fractured, and the failed. Blending personal story, biblical examples, and faith-filled wisdom, each page explores questions like the following:
How do we guard against the poison of bitterness so we can process the hurt and move forward?
When and how do we seek reconciliation? What does forgiveness look like?
How do we know when it’s time to leave a friendship behind?
How do we open up again and entrust our wounded hearts to new friendships?
If you find yourself in the midst of a friendship that’s falling apart, or you’re grappling with past hurts and regrets, I hope you enjoy this podcast episode and I encourage you to grab a copy of Elizabeth’s new book, When a Friendship Falls Apart.

Launch Your Own Podcast with Clarity and Confidence with Stefanie Gass
Three years ago this month I launched The Joy Filled Podcast after spending just a few short months researching and learning about how in the world I'd actually launch a podcast. In that research, I stumbled upon a podcast by my now mentor and friend, Stefanie Gass, who taught me so much of what I know about podcasting today.
Stefanie Gass is a Christian business and podcast coach, boundary boss, boy mom, and multi-six-figure CEO. She helps women grow their online businesses and make money online, using podcasting. She is the host of a top 25 globally ranked business podcast, Online Business for Christian Women. She believes it's possible to partner with God to create income and impact without sacrificing your family, faith, or buying into social media hustle.
Stefanie truly has a gift in helping women get clear on their callings and launch successful podcasts, and myself and this podcast is a reflection of that gift. If you’ve ever wondered or asked me about podcasting and how I got started, I’ve probably sent you in Stef’s direction. It is truly full circle to have her here on Joy Filled today and I am so honored to get to introduce you to her. Struggling to Feel Motivated to Show Up For Your Life? This One’s For You.
I’m sure you’ve been there. You want to show up and be who you’re made to be, step into your purpose, do the things you’re called to do (or even just the things you’re *supposed* to do), but you just can’t find it in you to actually *do* the things. I know I can’t be the only one who has gone through seasons where it’s hard to find motivation to even get a meal on the table, let alone all the other stuff. Wondering, how do I do it? How do I show up for all the things that need to be done, all the people that need me, all the tasks I’m supposed to do, even when I don’t feel like it? And with a culture SO focused on following our feelings, it’s no surprise we’re all asking the same question.
So how do we show up even when we don’t feel like it? Today, we’re answering that question because trust me, I am no stranger to this struggle and, lucky for you, I’ve learned a thing or two along the way.

Nutrition Can Be Simple, Even as a Busy Mom with Kirsti Troyer
One of the things that has been absolutely pivotal for me in motherhood is understanding and prioritizing nutrition and the role proper nutrition plays in my hormones, energy, mood, mental clarity, and so many other things. For a long time I was the mom surviving on 3-4 cups of coffee and maybe one real meal a day, and I was also exhausted, overwhelmed, and worn out most days. I thought that was normal. I thought that's just how it was for moms. But over the past year or so I've learned a lot about nutrition and one of the most encouraging things for me was realizing how simple it actually is to nourish my body and give it what it needs to thrive. I know this isn’t a health podcast, but I believe that health and leading a joy filled life go hand in hand, which is why I invited my friend Kirsti Troyer.
Kirsti Troyer is a registered dietitian of 8 years who started studying the connection between nutrition and hormones due to her own period problems. She now helps women support their hormones naturally with food. Specifically focusing on improving energy, metabolism and eating in sync with your menstrual cycle. She has a goal of simplifying nutrition and decreasing the overwhelm so you can nourish your body well. Kirsti lives in the beautiful Pacific Northwest with her husband & daughter. The Heart of Homemaking - 4 Simple Truths For The Discouraged Homemaker
With the rise of the homemaker "aesthetic" of pretty dresses, beautiful kitchens, and freshly baked sourdough on social media comes *lots* of different feelings - am I right? While it’s a beautiful thing to be inspired by so many amazing women who do a wonderful job of sharing their homemaking, it can also leave you wondering, am I doing this right? Am I really a homemaker if my reality doesn’t look like that.
Here’s the thing - I love the homemaker aesthetic. I think wearing dresses makes me more productive. I have tried and failed TWICE now to learn the art of sourdough (I’ll get it eventually!). I love that homemaking is making a comeback! But the truth is: the heart of homemaking is so much more than all of those things.
As I’ve fought comparison in my own homemaking journey, God has been so faithful to renew my mind and remind me of the true heart of homemaking. So in this episode, I’m sharing with you 4 simple truths about homemaking that God has been reminding me of in this season that I hope will encourage you in your own homemaking — whatever that may look like.

It IS possible to live our full lives, manage our homes, kids, and schedules, and take care of all the to-dos without burning out. The answer to avoiding burnout is simpler than you might think and no, it’s not a 5 step self care routine followed by an hour in prayer.
The answer, is simply a question – what is my source?

My Story of Body Shame and How I’m Learning to Find Freedom
Body shame for me started, like most of us, at a young age. Growing up in purity culture meant that women’s bodies weren’t celebrated as beautiful — they were covered up so as not to cause our brothers in Christ to stumble. So when my curves started to develop as a young teen, I didn’t know how I should feel about my changing body. Nobody told me that my body is good exactly how it is because God made it and he only makes good things and it’s worth loving and celebrating.
It’d be a long time before I ever heard that.
It took having three kids and some extra baby weight that decided to stick around longer than I wanted it to to realize how much of a hold body shame had on me, and how absolutely tired I was of living like that.
I’m not perfect, I still struggle sometimes, but I hope that in sharing my story you are encouraged and reminded that you’re so not alone in this and you too can experience freedom in your body.

If you are struggling with overwhelm in motherhood and wondering if there’s a way to move past it, or if you doubt that God is really at work in the midst of your overwhelm, then you will love getting to hear from our guest Michelle today. Michelle is a single mom and founder of PlusONE Parents, a ministry for single parents and she is no stranger to overwhelm and how isolating and crippling it can often feel. Michelle and I share a lot of our own experiences with overwhelm in motherhood and how it shows up in different ways, sometimes without even really being aware of it. We also discuss the world’s definition of “more” and the biblical definition of “more” and how that changes how we approach motherhood, how the enemy uses our overwhelm against us, and how God works through our overwhelm to invite us into more with him.
If you haven’t experienced overwhelm as a mom yet, there will probably be a time when you do and when that time comes, you’ll want to have the truth that Michelle shares in this episode tucked in your heart.

Mom Anxiety: How to Work Through Anxious Moments and Get Back to a Place of Peace
Whether you’re a seasoned mom or a brand new mama, you’ve probably experienced mom anxiety at some point. Anxiousness, stress, and worry show up a lot in motherhood and it can be difficult to handle when you don’t know what to do with those feelings. Personally, I experienced postpartum anxiety after having my first baby and still to this day have moments where those anxious thoughts pop back up and I’m forced to face them.
The good news is, we don’t have to face these things alone and the Bible is very clear about how we should approach our anxieties. Today we’re diving into the topic of mom anxiety, how it shows up in our lives, and what practical things we can do to move through those anxious moments and come back to a place of peace. (because yes, it’s more than just saying “don’t worry!”)

3 Tips to Overcome Boredom and Have More Fun as a Stay at Home Mom
Do you ever get bored as a stay at home mom? So much of what you do in your day to day life is repetitive - same books, same routines, and if your kids are anything like mine… cooking the same three meals because you know it’s what they’ll actually eat.
All this repetition can easily make it feel like this season of life is dull, boring, and even a waste of time. So often I hear, and I’m sure you’ve heard it too (or maybe even said it!), “I could never be a stay at home mom! I’d get so bored!”. Today, we’re gonna flip the belief that being a stay at home mom means leading a boring life on its head so you can begin to actually, genuinely, enjoy your life and all this season with your kids has to offer.

While crafting Instagram devotionals @heidileeanderson and writing kid’s curriculum @thismotherhen and teaching biblical online courses, she’s a master at cleaning up Cheerios spills and building LEGO towers while simultaneously chugging coffee like a Gilmore. Heidi has a bachelor’s degree in marketing from University of Northwestern, MN, and has spent her career doing ministry—from teaching hundreds in kids’ ministry to writing daily devotionals, Bible reading plans, and small group curriculum as a content developer. After being diagnosed with cancer, Heidi’s fuel is now to make sure that Christ-followers realize, know, and claim the sure promises God offers—in the mundane, amid the heartache, and on top of the highest mountains.
Are you ready to choose faith over fear? Grab your coffee, get ready to laugh and be encouraged, and listen in to this conversation with Heidi Lee Anderson.

4 Reasons You Need Community, ESPECIALLY as a Stay at Home Mom
Motherhood can be a very lonely time for so many of us. It’s hard to make friends as an adult, and it’s even harder to make friends as a mom. Most of the time, it can feel like it’s not even worth the effort to try to find good friends in this season of life, especially because it can feel like everyone else has already found their community. But the truth is this: we weren’t made to do life alone. In fact, the first thing God said wasn’t good, was being alone. We were created for community, we’re better when we’re in community, and we need community. Plain and simple.
Join me as we discuss why community is so vital and how to find true, meaningful connections in this season of your life.

Ditching Anxiety and Exhaustion for Fulfillment and Freedom with Amy Seiffert
Amy Seiffert is no stranger to the empty, shameful, anxious feelings that social media often leaves us with.
Amy knows that so many of us feel dissatisfied and empty—emotionally, physically, and even spiritually. Our lives are rushed, overflowing, and we’re low on joy, fulfillment, peace, and purpose. In our spare moments, we turn to our phones, social media, and a million other little things, desperate for relief, but over time, these distractions become an unhealthy diet for our souls—uplifting us for a moment but ultimately denying us the nourishment we need. When we over consume these imposters that promise a temporary boost but actually leave us weak and weary, we become anxious, fearful, and depleted. These addicting substitutes keep us coming back for more, never providing satisfaction.
But, Amy reminds us, there is hope. We don’t have to stay stuck and malnourished. We can become free of shame, disappointment, and anxiety.
Today, Amy Seiffert shares with us how to stop ingesting spiritual junk food and offers simple and replenishing practices like silence, service, and Sabbath that can bring us closer to Jesus. She encourages us to put down our phones, set aside our pride, and let go of the hustle so that we can receive a spiritual diet change that will leave us delightfully content, spiritually healthy, and free to experience the goodness of Jesus.
