121 - Intuitive Eating Myths Debunked
In today's episode Jessi debunks these 5 intuitive eating myths below: Myth: Intuitive eating means eating whatever you want, whenever you want. If I tell myself that junk food is ok and no food is “bad”, I will never stop eating. Myth: Intuitive eating means my nutrition will turn into a junk food free for all that doesn’t honor the fact that I like eating healthy and taking care of my body. Essentially I can’t be a health conscious person and practice intuitive eating. Myth: If I don’t control food, it will control me. Myth: I need to lose weight to feel confident because I am either overweight, unhappy with my weight, or have been told I am at risk for health issues because of my weight. Myth: Exercise has to be hard, challenging and unenjoyable.. Used as a punishment to be effective rather than joyful movement. If you have been wanting to move towards a more intuitive approach to food but are nervous about leaving behind some food patterns, this episode is for you! 098 - Holiday How-To Ep.9 - Handle Weight Gain Without Slipping Into Diet Culture
In this Holiday How To episode, Jessi covers weight gain. What to do about it, how to handle it and ultimately, how we are so much more than our bodies. Jessi compassionately explains that arriving at a place where we accept that our body may fluctuate throughout life is a must and how overtime our bodies will find a place that it functions most optimally at. This set point doesn’t require restriction, constant effort-ing or white knuckling to keep you at a certain weight or weight range. Jessi candidly shares how she doesn’t absolutely LOVE everything about her body and how that is OK! Body confidence is about knowing that you are so much more than your body. Part of body respect is also knowing that it’s important to feed yourself no matter what, EVEN if you indulged the day before. You are worthy of feeding yourself properly and respecting yourself at every stage of the recovery journey. 020 - OUTRAGED - #WakeUpWeightWatchers
Have you heard the news? Weight Watchers created a new app called Kurbo, which was designed for kids as young as 8-years-old. It teaches children a traffic light system to categorize foods under green light, yellow light and red light. This might seem like a good idea on the surface to help inform children about nutrition and help them make smarter choices with food. The problem is, this system mimics what it’s like to count calories and labeling foods as good or bad. However, when you understand the psychology of eating disorders and how they develop, it becomes shockingly disturbing to think about what this app could cause by setting our children up for a lifetime struggle of weight cycling and eating disorders. It’s so important that this topic receives pressure and attention it deserves so we can reverse the inevitable damage that it will cause if it continues to move forward. On this episode, you’ll hear Jessi’s thoughts on Kurbo, along with what the National Eating Disorder Association said about the app. You’ll also find out what you can do to let Weight Watchers know that you aren’t okay with this app for children. In this episode: The new Weight Watchers app is for children Understanding the psychology of eating disorders and how this will affect children What the National Eating Disorder Association said about the Kurbo app Looking at children's weight through such a narrow lense The correlation between diet and weight gain Weight Watchers knowing about weight cycling Unlearning rules, macro counting and meal plans Getting to know your hunger, fullness and satiety cues How tracking her food affected her self worth Becoming dependent on an app to guide our eating Learning to use intuitive eating What you can do to show Weight Watchers that you aren’t okay with this Resources: The National Eating Disorder Associations response to Kurbo Sign The Petition To Remove Children's Weight Loss App Grab a copy of Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch's book Intuitive Eating which includes information on how to raise and intuitive eater Write a letter to Weight Watchers CEO, Mindy Grossman to: Weight Watchers International Mindy Grossman 675 Avenue of the Americas, 6th floor New York, NY 10010 On Instagram: Follow and use the hashtag #WakeUpWeightWatchers to join the conversation and raise awareness Experts on Instagram to follow: https://instagram.com/evelyntribole https://instagram.com/danasuchow https://instagram.com/dietitiananna https://instagram.com/marcird https://instagram.com/theintuitive_rd https://instagram.com/hgoodrichrd https://instagram.com/drjoshuawolrich https://instagram.com/feedinglittles https://instagram.com/chr1styharrison Remember to sign for Jessi’s VIP email list here where she will share exclusive content: www.jessijean.com/VIP *You don’t want to miss the 1st email which includes an EPIC workbook guide for alll my visual gals on Nervous System Regulation!
