Tawheed - The Three Fundamental Principles Sh. Ahmad Musa Jibril. Sheikh Ahmad was born in the United States, and spent part of his childhood in the city of Madina in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia when his father, Sheikh Musa Jibril, was a student at the Islamic University of Madina. It was there where Sheikh Ahmad also became Hafidh al Qur'an at the age of 11. Sheikh Ahmad then spent the rest of his younger years back in the United States graduating from high school in 1989. Thereafter, he studied at the Islamic University of Madina as his father did, and graduated with a degree in the Shari'a. He returned to the United States and finished his JD/LLM (masters of law) degree from Michigan law schools. May Allah (azza wajal) reward him and his family. Ameen. InshaAllah, through this humble effort, we want to bring rightly guided committed beliefs and dedicated practices of Islam in it's pure form as intended by the Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), and understood by his companions, and practiced by the followers of the companions, and subsequently by their followers the tabi'een and tabi' tabi'een back into every aspect of life for all members of the Muslim ummah. May Allah reward you all for your efforts. Ameen. -Tafseer and overview of the verses the author used:
--------------------------------------------------------
1. (And from among His Signs are the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. Prostrate yourselves not to the sun nor to the moon, but prostrate yourselves to Allah Who created them, if you (really) worship Him) 41:37
2. (Indeed your Lord is Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth in Six Days, and then He rose over (Istawa) the Throne (really in a manner that suits His Majesty). He brings the night as a cover over the day, seeking it rapidly, and (He created) the sun, the moon, the stars subjected to His Command. Surely, His is the Creation and Commandment. Blessed is Allah, the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinn and all that exists)!7:54
--------------------------------------------------------
-Allah (Subhanu watala) created the heavens and earths in 6 days; 4 for the earth and 2 for the heavens.
-Cleaning the misconception some have pertaining to the verses on that.
-The opinions of the ulama on the wisdom in creating the heavens and earth in 6 days instead of instantly.
--------------------------------------------------------
THE AUTHOR SAID:(The Lord is the one who is worshipped)
The proof is: (O mankind! Worship your Lord (Allah), Who created you and those who were before you so that you may become Al-Muttaqun
Who has made the earth a resting place for you, and the sky as a canopy, and sent down water (rain) from the sky and brought forth therewith fruits as a provision for you. Then do not set up rivals unto Allah (in worship) while you know (that He Alone has the right to be worshipped) 2:21-22
Ibn Katheer Rahimahu Allah said (the Lord is the one who is worshipped)

-The proper meaning the author meant when saying (the Lord is the one who is worshipped)
-Brief bio of ibn Katheer (Rahimahu Allah).
--------------------------------------------------------
THE AUTHOR SAID:(The types of worship which Allaah commanded:)
--------------------------------------------------------
-ibadat are both obligatory and recommended
Obligatory and recommended each has a heart category, a sayings category and an action category.
--------------------------------------------------------
THE AUTHOR SAID: (Like: Islaam, eemaan and ihsaan).
--------------------------------------------------------
-The author gives examples of Ibadat.
Islam, Emann and ehsan plus 14 other ones.
-Islam, Eman and Ihsan are called (deen) in hadith Jibreel (Alyhi Alsalam). The author referred to them (ibadaat).
Was it inaccurate to do so?

Chapter 3:
making the Religion purely and sincerely for Him
*Intro to sincerity (Ikhlas)
*Deficiencies in Ikhlas:
1. Entering Islam based fully on Riyaa
2. Riyaa (insincerity) in matters if one was to leave them, they would negate his deen
3. Riyaa in the overwhelming majority of ones deeds
4. Riyaa in matters that are not obligatory or matters that if one was to leave them, they would not negate his deen:
a, If one fights and resists the whispers and insincerity
b. If one does not reject and resist the whispers and insincerity
c. After the deed is done and completed.
5. Leaving matters for fear of Riyaa, is it Riyaa?
6. Doing matters because of encouragement by others or their companionship.
7. Doing matters for Dunya or mixed (Dunya and Deen):
a. If the percentage of sincerity for ALLAH subhanu watala is more
b. If the percentage is equal or less (Dunya and Deen)
*A heart to heart advice from the Shaykh on sincerity for students of knowledge.

The proof is "All praise is for Allaah, the Lord of all creation.
-Word for word tafseer of (All praise is for Allaah, the Lord of all creation.)
Everything besides Allaah is a created being and I am one of the creation

and signs
-Intellect proof is always under the umbrella of textual proof.
(examples of each)
-There are two types of Ayaat.(The revealed way)(The signs)
-Which type of Ayaat did the author intend?
and from his signs are the night and the day, the sun and the moon;

and from that which He has created are the seven heavens, and the
seven earths
and all those within them,
and whatever is between them
-Why did he separate between the moon, sun, day and night in one sentence and then in another mention the earth and the heavens?
-Belief in Allah (subhanu watala) through the signs and creations refuting atheists or doubts in Allah (subhanu watala).
How to resist doubts in Allah (subhanu watala) if they come knocking on your heart.
-The prophet Sallah Allahu Alieh Wasalam used to look to the sky before his Qiyaam prayer and recite:
(Verily! In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the alternation of night and day, there are indeed signs for men of understanding)

And the greatest of all that Allaah has commanded is Tawheed, which is to single out Allaah with all worship.
-Proof on Tawheed being the most important matter.
-Definition of Taweed.
-Definition of Aqeedah
-Tawheed is to affirm (ithbaat) and deny (nafy)
the worst and most serious matter that Allaah prohibited and forbade
is Shirk (associating partners with him).
"Worship Allaah alone, making all worship purely for Him, and do not associate anything in worship along with Him."
-Definition of Shirk
-Types of Duaa
Duaa of invoking
Duaa of worship
-Many facts with proof on how Tawheed/Shirk are the most essential matters.
-Detailed Tafseer of the verse the author used as proof
If you are asked what the the three principles that every Muslim must know.
Say: It's to know your lord, your religion and your messenger
-Definition of Usool (principle)
-Why did the author initiate this matter in a question format rather than directly stating it?
-The first hurdle in going to -to the life after- phase is one on his deathbed saying la ilah illa Allaah.
The second main hurdle (and first in the life after) is the test in the grave.
Both hurdles need the learning, knowing, believing, understanding and dying on Tawheed to overcome them.
-The three principles in the grave are like the relationship of the heart to the body.
Just like a body depends on a healthy heart for its health.
Success in the akhira depends on the answers to the three principles.

-ma3rifah is "usually" in the context of matters vilifed in the koran - not always.

that alhaneefiyah - milet ibrahim
*The wisdom behind the order from Allah subhanu Watala to follow the alhaneefiyah - milet Ibrahim, Alyhi alsama and not any other Messenger even though they all shared the pure Tawheed.
*a) The reason why the author mentioned Ibraheem without mentioning (Alyhi Alsalam)
b) The etiquette of fully writing (Sallah Allahu Alieh Wasalam) without abbreviating or shortening as stated by the Ulama of hadith ans saying it as you write and hear it.
c) The ruling on saying (Sallah Allahu Alyhi Wasalam) when the Prophet's name is mentioned or written {(Sallah Allahu Alyhi Wasalam)}.
*the next phrase is
is that you worship Allah alone
a) Definition of Ibadah/worship
b) The wisdom behind Allah Subhanu Watala ordering us to worship him even though he is independent of us and does not need us or our worship.
-Allah Subhanu Watala is not harmed by our sins nor does he benefit by our deeds.
-Universal submission to Allah Subhanu Watala vs. the Special submission to Allah Subhanu Watala
-Worship of Allah Subhanu Watala is his right over us
-From among the biggest mercies of Allah Subhanu Watala is that he directed us to worship him because that's our benefit not his.

Tawheed 13 - Tafseer Surat Al-Asr II
Outline - Class #13:
*Satanic trap of making matters beneficial to ones hereafter boring.
*Importance of Asr/time:
-You are made up of time, when a day leaves you buried a portion of you.
-One is like a building, everyday a brick is taken off and placed in the hereafter.
-We enter Jannah by what we invest of our time
-Time is our principle and capital
*What is so important that Allah needed to give an oath?
-Mankind is at a loss.
*Relationship b/w giving an oath by Asr and the oath on man being at a loss.
*Insan is every mankind -Muslim and Non-Muslim.
-(La) in La fe is to add confirmation
*Khusur (loss) comes in noun form instead of verb to give an everlasting powerful meaning.
-Difference between Khusur(noun) and khasir(verb), and an example to make it clear.
*Why is it Khusur/loss in a [nakirah] form not Al-khusur/the loss?
1. In Arabic khusur comes as nakirah to show something is mighty and devastating - great loss.
-Allah also said fe (in) not ala (on) because fe gives the meaning that one is surrounded in deep loss.
(Ala) on could of meant a slighter degree of loss and here it's a full major loss.
-Three practical scenarios in how one uses time:
a) Winner B) lost profit C) lost capital, profit and is in debt.
-Using ones time in backbiting or transgressing upon others rights will yield one to the [Qantarah]. Amazing descriptive scenes from the hereafter.
2. Khusur also comes as nakirah because loss is levels in the Koran and coming as Nakirah - khusur means the worst type of loss.
*Take note how Allah generalized that everyone is at a loss and then made the exception. Why it's like that not the opposite?
*How is (belief) proof for the 1st fundamental principle when the author mentions it as (knowledge). Knowledge vs. Belief.
*Why didn't the verse detail what to believe in?
-Three points on that.
*Koran combines eman with good deeds in 51 verses:
-Eman without action is the way of Feroun, Shaytan and Kuffar Quriesh.
-Action with no eman is the way of the hypocrites.
The story of Abdallah Alqaseemy who went from a famous tawheed defender to an atheist.
*Recommending Haqq
-Three forces that attack one to destroy him and the solution.
-Delicate difference between tawasou and Awsou
*Recommending patience:
-Patience is mentioned 3 indirect times and the fourth time specified.
-Patience in being a student of knowledge.
*Clearing a misconception for the special students of knowledge:
The famous statement the author mentions and is attributed to Alshafey has no chain of authenticity to it in that specific wording: قالَ الشافعيُّ رحمَهُ اللهُ :
لوْ مَا أَنْزَلَ اللهُ حُجَّةً عَلَى خَلْقِهِ إلاَّ هٰذه السُّورَةَ لَكَفَتْهُم
If nothing else but this (Surah Al-'Asr) would have only been revealed and nothing else, then this was enough or sufficient.
Even though it's in this booklet the correct wording with a chain is :
لو فكر الناس في هذه السورة لكفتهم
If people contemplated this surah it would sufficient and enough for them.
-The 2nd wording is preferable to use because it's the only version with an authentic chain, the meaning is clearer, other Imams like Ibn Taymmieh, Ibn Qayyim, Ibn Katheer and Shanqeety quote Alshafey in the that wording.
May ALLAH preserve our Shaykh and his family.

***CHAPTER 2***
Know may Allaah have mercy upon you, that it is obligatory upon every Muslim, male and female, to learn and act upon the following three matters:
اِعْلَمْ رَحِمَكَ اَلْلَّهُ أَنَّهُ يَجِبُ عَلَى كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ وَمُسْلِمَةٍ،
تَعَلُّمُ هَذِهِ الْمَسَائِلِ الْثَّلَاثِ، وَالْعَمَلُ بِهِنَّ:
-Why did he specify females when they are already addressed?
-He specified (Muslim). Are non-Muslims not addressed in these matters?
-Are non-Muslims addressed in principle and secondary matters?
*The first of the three matters here has 6 sub-categories:
1.
a) That Allaah created us
Proof on that from the Koran, Sunnah, intellect (al-Shafey, Ahmad, Abu Hanifah)

So whoever obeys him will enter Paradise, and whoever rejects and disobeys him will enter the Fire.
*commands of the quran and/or sunnah are three types.
*Sunnah in relationship to the Koran is three categories
*Categories of those who disobey Allah in their destiny to the fire.
-Minor shirk is a form of shirk some scholars said it will not fall under mashee'ah.
*Tafseer of the verse the author uses as proof and concludes matter #1 of Chapter 2:

-Taking sabr seriously while at ease and understanding it, leads and strengthens your eman to dealing with problems and afflictions.
-Very unique and interesting ahadeeth on sabr.
-Patience gives you strength to stand your ground even if you are alone.
(Usually the righteous are a minority)
-Allah said that he tests so that he will know the righteous from the evil, does that contradict the encompassing knowledge of Allah? (Does he need to test to know who is a believer and not?)
-Amazing is the case of the believer; there is good for him in everything!
The story of ifk was good to the believers.
-Be patient on words you'll hear because the prophet sallah allahu alyhi wasalam went through it, so did the other prophets, as well as the salaf and imam. They even spoke about Allah their creator.
-When someone has the upper hand over you, turn to Allah in repentance.
-As much as people harm you, continue to have mercy on them.
-Patience on the path of Islam is the honorable noble patience, because it patience by choice not by force.
-Words of amazing wisdom from Shaykh Ahmad's father may Allah subhanu watal preserve them both.

*Intro:
-Even though this is a tawheed class, Islamic sciences are intertwined and therefore this class will seem like it's a tafseer class.
-The four introductory fundamental principles of tawheed were directly taken from Suret Al-Asr
-The sahabah held suret Al-Asr in high regard and gave it a special status
*Oaths by Allah
*Four opinion on what Al-Asr means.
1. All of time. (a. Time of all creation on this earth [or] b. Your specific time on this earth)
2. Era of the Prophet Muhammad Sallah Allahu Alyhi Wasalam
3. The timing right before sunset.
4. Salat Al-Asr [or] the timing of Salat Alasr.
-Selected opinion by Altabary and Shanqeety.
*Importance of Al-Asr/Time for Muslim and especially for youth.
*Oath of Allah by Al-Asr:
-Never object, doubt or question matters in the Koran or authentic sunnah.
-Using intellect to question the Koran and Sunnah is a quality of the Shaytan
*Three points on why there are oaths in the Koran
*Oath by Humans must only be by Allah and not by creation

*Patience to a Daieh is essential:
patience is a like a steed that does not stumble
*What do u get out of patience?
-They will not harm you.
-You get the special honorary accompanying of Allah
-You get the love of Allah
-You get the glad tiding.
-Angels will enter unto you from every gate of Jannah greeting you w/ quality of Sabr.
-receive the reward in full, without reckoning.
-With patience and certainty, one obtains leadership in religion
*Definition of Sabr
*Types and levels of complaining.
*Types of Sabr
*Why does Allah test us?
-Among the reasons so the people of truth can sorted out from the people of evil.
*If every messenger and revivor was tested don't expect to live free from a test.
*The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم endured so much that he needed to be comforted by Allah
and was commanded to patient 11 times (Fa-isbir).
* Every time the prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم left a scene of torture and ousting he was more optimistic and energized to continue his mission.
- He was also more sure than ever that he would prevail.
-That is among the fruits of Sabr.
*The most tested are the messengers and those who follow them in righteousness.

*This class was approximately 2 1/2 hours long (without Q & A) -Allahuma Barik le-Shaykhna. It was therefore split into two parts this is part 1 is class # 8 and we will upload part 2 as class #9 - inshallah.
Our beloved Shaykh Ahmad has been exerting so much effort and energy into these classes.
I don't want to upset him and publicly praise his knowledge and efforts which is apparent to all inshallah - but I would like to state:
There is hundreds of students from all over the globe studying, yet most do not share this with others!!?!
It's not very difficult to share these classes through email, twitter, FB or other means!?!
As you heard in this class, sharing something like this with others will give you just as much reward that the Shaykh got as well as those who helped produce it.
We KINDLY ask that you share this with others so that they can benefit, the truth can be spread, and you can get the reward.

Outline of class #6:
-Continue explaning the 2nd of four intro. principles:
2) Acting on Knowledge
Al-Shatiby: The main goal for knowledge is that it is means to worship Allah and every knowledge that does not benefit action there is nothing in sharieh to indicate that its praise worthy.
-Knowledge results in heart or physical acts.
*Knowledge is different than acting.
-Merely having knowledge does not necessarily mean one acts on it.
-Verses in the Koran to show each is different than the other.
*Proofs to show knowledge was sent to be acted upon
*A person of knowledge should apply his knowledge because just as body parts testify against one, versus, hadith and knowledge may testify against one.
-Quotes pertaining to the importance of applying knowledge.
*Should I leave learning since the more I know the more I will be held accountable for?
-Some of the knowledge is fard ayn (every individual must know) and one who does not know will be punished. That is most of the knowledge of Tawheed.
-As to the extra credit knowledge that is a means for you to reach the highest of jannah.
Some of the Ulama compared the level of a Martyr to that of a áalim (knowledgeable). It was discussed in Muftah Dar Alsaadah by Ibn Al qayyem and there is some quotes on that by Ibn Masood and Ibn Al mubarak.
-Not only is it means for the peak of heaven but knowledge gives happiness, pleasure and content in this life.
Some who had nothing but knowledge and it's application suffered greatly yet felt as if they were in a heaven on this earth.
*The higher ur status in knowledge the higher your application needs to be of it because u are held at a higher status by people and by Allah. Thus, the punishment is more severe for a knowledgeable person.
-Allah informed the propeht صلى الله عليه وسلم, and his wives if they merely do wrong their punishment is doubled because their reward is doubled due to their status. Likewise, a student of ilm is held a higher standard by Allah most importantly and then by people.
-The honour/status is great so the punishment is more severe.
*Examples of how the salaf took applying knowledge seriously.
*Who are the evil scholars
*ِOne of the best means to convey knowledge is by acting upon it.
-A very important quote from Said Al-Khater for Ibn Al-Jozy p.168 on how he was moved by 2 of his scholars who acted upon their knowledge in private and public and did not take compensation for teaching him and others.
*Finally, no matter how much one applies and acts according to his knowledge, he should never get conceited. Never get conceited with humans but even more so never get conceited with Allah.
*End of lecture, 47:33. Q & A start at that point.

-Alkhateeb Albaghdady narrates the story of the man who seen water dripping on a stone.
-Becoming a student of knowledge has its own procedure.
*3 level of studying from a teacher:
1) Samaa Mubashir - direct from a Shiekh/teacher.
2) Wasitah - through a mediator
3) Wijadah - through a book
-Studying through the internet is a level between the first and second, possibly closer or right under the first.
*Writing knowledge or taking notes is important. The salaf encouraged it
*Study of the Usool Thalatah beings.
The author starts with Bismallah Allah Alrahman Alraheem, called Basmallah:
1) The aspect of Taweed Al-uluhieh in mentioning Allah's name on anything.
2) The aspect of Taweed Ar-rububieh in mentioning Allah's name on anything.
3) The aspect of Taweed asamaa wassifat in mentioning Allah's name on anything.
4) Arabic grammatical rule: When you say Bismallah it automatically implies your saying - Bismallah I drink in that order.
-Arabic language eliminates the need to mention the act your saying basmalah for.
5) 2nd grammatical rule in Bismallah: Why is it (Bismallah I eat) in that order and not (I eat Bismallah)?
a) To bless your name by mentioning Allah's name prior to mentioning the act itself.
b) In Arabic saying (Bismallah I eat) rather than (I eat Bismallah) limits the action solely for the sake of Allah and no one else.
6) Proof that it's permissible to start your writings with Basmalah.
7) General barakah and virtues on saying Bismallah for everything good.
