Spiritual Slang is a podcast hosted by me—Shannelle Ortiz! I'm an LA native, and have no filter when it comes to the issues I've been through, and how I've gotten through them—3 words, Won't He Do It! And by He, I mean God. You can expect lighthearted (sometimes heavy), transparent and always entertaining conversations about experiences/struggles that we've all been through, but rather not talk about. In life, relationships, friendships, careers, and more. Spiritual Slang is here to let you know that you’re not alone, and encourage you that there is a light at the end of every dark tunnel. Join me on this journey @spiritualslang
God's not finished, there's more
I'm back with another solo, one-on-one episode! If you've ever felt stuck, like life is passing you by, or discouraged in your current situation, this one is for you. I talk about it all with the foundation of Philippians 1:6. The work that the Lord has began in you, the good work might I add, He will complete. No matter where you're at in life, if you're still here, He's not finished with you, and there is more.

My mind vs. me
I named this episode My Mind vs. Me because for a long time I felt like my mind was working against me instead of for me. From constant self-critiques to wasting time in my head instead of being present, it felt like a hidden battle that I was never going to win. Then I finally decided, I didn’t have to live like this and that I would no longer allow my mind to control me — this is when the change began. Let’s talk about it.

Waiting
At some point in our life, we’re all going to be required to wait for something. Wait for the next opportunity, wait for the chance to do something, wait for the right time to start a business, wait for the right time to leave a place or someone, wait for the right relationship. Sometimes you'll be waiting a couple months and other times a few years. Join me as I talk about why waiting is necessary, how to wait with intentionality, and keeping your faith as you wait.

Fighting the good fight
Life has a funny way of throwing things at us that make us feel like we’re constantly in the battle ring. From insecurities, rejection, heartbreak to the cards we’re dealt, there’s always something. Although it’s never easy, the biggest truth that has helped me through every battle is the fact that God has already favored me to win every fight before its even begun. His promise to me, to you, to us is victory. Join me as I talk about God’s favor in our fights, the healing process, and how to not let whatever you’re facing stop you from moving forward.

Your why is everything
In this episode, I talk about the why behind everything we do. The why that keeps us going. The why behind the thoughts we think. The why behind the choices we make. It's all about becoming self-aware enough to ask ourselves why we do things that hurt us instead facing the root of the issue to ultimately heal and grow.

Faith steps
There are moments in our lives where we're called to make BIG life decisions that really test your faith. The type of decisions that would have you question everything around you. The type of decisions that evoke fear, doubt, worry — all of that, but something in you is still telling you to do it. Join me as I talk about the faith step that I recently had to take — leaving my job of 4+ years with no idea what I was going to do, I just knew God was calling me to leave and trust Him.

Join me as I discuss what it felt like to lay down the identity/life that I created for myself to pick up the identity/life God had for me. Spoiler alert — it wasn’t easy, but it was worth it.

It’s probably imposter syndrome

Letting go of control
Control issues, the need to be in control, wanting to know the outcome of every situation, wanting things to pan out in the timing that you want them to happen in — either way, we have to learn to let go. Why? Because things don't always happen the way we want them to, but in the end God's plan is better than our own. Join me as I talk about overcoming my control issues, and how I learned to really let go, and let God. Disclaimer: life is sooo much better this way.

Rejection issues
I put myself on full blast for this episode, but it was worth the growth. Struggling with rejection was one of the things that came with the fact that I grew up without a dad. I thought that since my dad rejected me, everyone else would too, which led to lots of self sabotaging and lots of pain. But, God! Join me as I share my experiences with rejection and how I learned to heal and overcome them.

The middle
The middle? You’re not at your lowest, but you’re not at your highest. You’re putting in the work, but not seeing the fruit yet. Waiting for the next. Feeling stuck. Unsure of where you’re going. In the unknown. Uncomfortable. That’s what it feels like in the middle. Join me as I talk about how it feels to be in the middle, which is where I'm currently at.

Dadless, but not fatherless
It took me 26 years to finally say out loud that I didn't know who my dad was. The reason is because I was simply ashamed to admit that I didn't have something that the people around me had. Although it was this big secret, the insecurities and issues that came as a result of that fact weren't a secret. Join me as I talk about my journey of the hurt that it caused and how I was finally able to move forward and heal from it.

Good ol’ comparison
Comparison—whether big or small, it happens to all of us, but why? Maybe because we live in a world where we're consumed with watching others live their life? Not sure, but what I do know is, I've had my fair share of moments where I thought I wasn't good enough after looking at someone else's life. Join me as I talk about the cons of comparing yourself to others and how to stop it.

You don’t know what you need
Why is it that we can sometimes operate out of a needy mentality? What we currently have just isn't enough. In this episode, I dive into what I learned when I realized that everything I need, I have. And, if I don't have it then I don't need it.
12/15/2020 • 35 minutes, 21 seconds
You’re good
In this episode, I dive into the idea that it's okay not to be okay, perfectionism, and how to remind yourself that you're good even when you don't feel good.

Something’s gotta give
The questions was, is, and will always be—what are you willing to give up in order to be your highest self and walk in purpose? I learned through walking with God and creating this podcast that something's always gotta give.
