Episode 118 - Gale in SCREAM VI

Gale Weathers and Courteney Cox made horror movie history with Scream VI. She is now the most featured horror heroine to appear consecutively in all the films in the series. She is now the only actor to appear in each film in the entry, a trend that broke for Neve Campbell and Sidney Prescott. In addition, Courteney Cox won a MTV Movie Award for her phone call and chase scene in Scream VI. And yet, this is perhaps the most controversial writing for the character in the series. Many fans have taken issue with how incomplete Gale’s arc is, how regressively she is written after an epic evolution in the first five films. Episode 108 - The Meeks Family: Randy, Mindy, Chad, & Martha; Scream 5 v. Scream 6

Scream was known as the self-referential film that cineaphiles loved because their knowledge and interest of film was validated. In the Radio Silence era, the bloodline continued with his niece, the horror movie expert Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown) and nephew, the jock with a heart of gold Chad (Mason Gooding Jr.) taking on central roles. This week, Ryan and Patreon guests take a analyze at the Meeks family collectively and the individual characters. Episode 097 - Sidney & Gale's Relationship

Happy release week of “Scream VI,” Screamers! One of the most valuable aspects of "Scream" as an elite horror franchise is the complex, ever-evolving relationship between its two insurmountable heroines over the first five films, Sidney Prescott and Gale Weathers. They started out as enemies; punches were thrown before they began to hug one another to say hello. But massacre after massacre allowed them to understand each other in a way unlike anyone else, even the common link between these two women, co-survivor Dewey Riley. Episode 093 - The Gale and Dewey Love Story

Happy Valentine’s Day! The "Scream" film series may be a meta-slasher-who-done-it about Sidney Prescott and how her mother's past comes back to haunt her. But alongside the genre-blending cleverness and final girl narrative, there is a parallel storyline across the franchise that is a love story between journalist and author, Gale Weathers, and the deputy-turned-Sheriff, Dewey Riley. And it is a love story that could challenge the likes of “Titanic” in its epic scope, emotional strength, and complexity. Episode 092 – The Trio in Scream 4

Long before Jamie Lee Curtis graced “Halloween” in 2018, reviving her role as Laurie Strode and being blended into a new narrative with a younger cast, “Scream” did the exact same thing eight years earlier. Sidney, Gale, and Dewey return to lead a new cast ensemble as the “legacy” original cast members. Functionally, this allows “Scream 4” to push forward a brilliant commentary on the remake culture of the 2000-2010s. However, “Scream 4” also continues their storylines after what we saw in their happy endings at the end of the third film. Join Ryan and podcast contributor Amar Karim to discuss how they use the trio in “Scream 4.” In addition, Alley joins Ryan in the introduction to send well wishes and thanks to Albert Padilla, who has produced and edited all 92 episodes of this podcast to date, as he pursues other adventures. Episode 087 - The Trio in “Scream” (2022) & Horror Films of 2022

Ten years had passed since we last saw Sidney Precott, Gale Weathers, and Dewey Riley united at the end of “Scream 4.” For better or worse, they have changed a great deal. Additionally, in the fifth film, they function differently than ever before, taking a break from driving the story and rather supporting a new plot in the franchise. In “Scream,” they take on the roles of the legacy characters in a requel or legasequel. This week, Ryan and Amar venture into the drastic changes in the lives of the beloved “Scream” trio and evaluate the success of the character arcs and the performances by Neve Campbell, David Arquette, and Courteney Cox. For the introduction, Ryan is joined by Doug Evasick. Ryan and Doug give twenty horror films released in 2022 a thumbs up or thumbs down. Episode 086 - Courteney Cox, Scream VI, & Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Film Career

In the final episode of SCREAM with Ryan C. Showers in the year of 2022, Ryan has a jammed packed show. First, Ryan covers additional thoughts about the “Scream VI” Teaser Trailer with Joey Vallese. Ryan and Joey additionally muse about Courteney Cox’s work as Gale Weathers and her role as a Scream Queen in the horror genre. In the second half of the episode, which is available exclusively for Patreon subscribers, Ryan is joined by Ryan Young and Amar Karim for a Ryan2 conversation about Sarah Michelle Gellar. Most people know her as the 1990s Scream Queen (Cici Cooper, Helen Shivers) or as Buffy the Vampire Slayer. But there is so much more accomplished acting work to her career, many of which Scream fans may not know about. Ryan, Ryan, and Amar evaluate every project in Sarah Michelle Gellar’s filmography. Ryan encourages horror fans who are excited for return to TV in “Wolf Pack” this January to utilize free time exploring her lesser-known films, such as “Veronika Decides to Die” (drama), “The Air I Breathe” (drama), “The Return” (genre/thriller), “Possession” (genre/thriller), “Suburban Girl (romantic comedy), and “Southland Tales” (genre/science fiction). Episode 085 – The Scream VI Teaser Trailer

Episode 079 - Ranking Final Girls: Sidney, Gale, Laurie, Ripley, & Nancy

"Scream" has always been a franchise of final girls. Sidney Prescott and Gale Weathers are two of the most consistent, quality characters in any horror franchise of all time. They are legendary for not having one, uninterrupted, consecutive character arc without their storyline ever. Most "Scream" fans assume they are the final girls of all final girls. In today's episode, the Showersheads put the Scream Queens up against the likes of the other top tier final girls in the cinematic landscape: Laurie Strode from "Halloween," Ellen Ripley from "Alien," and Nancy Thompson from "A Nightmare on Elm Street." Episode 077 - Halloween H20 & Scream 3 Parallels

"Halloween" has served as the blueprint for "Scream" in many ways. However, the most similar aspect of these two film series rarely gets its due. "Scream 3," which was designed to close out the storyline of original trilogy bares a striking resemblance to "Halloween H20," which in many ways forms the end of a Laurie Strode trilogy after the films in 1978 and 1981. Both films feature a prominent survivor from a previous film killed in the opening scenes. Each of the films end with an epic sense of finality. But more importantly, the character arcs of Sidney Prescott and Laurie Strode each reach their apex through parallel emotional and character beats. Join Ryan and a group of Patreons to discuss the parallels between "Scream 3" and "Halloween H20" for this Halloween special. To conclude the episode, listen to the first “Ryan2” segment with Ryan, Ryan Young and Amar Karim. Episode 070 – Interview: Karyn Kusama & Phil Hay, & Sam Carpenter Perspectives

This week, Ryan hosts the Emmy-nominated director of “Yellowjackets,” Karyn Kusama, and her husband screenwriter, Phil Hay. The husband-wife filmmaking duo are genre film legends, with their most recent collaborations as “The Invitation” (2015) and “Destroyer” (2018). In addition, Ryan is joined later on the show by two Patreons, Ryan Young and Joey Noberini. Ryan often puts forth pro-Sam Carpenter sentiments on this podcast. However, because she is a divisive figure, rounding out the debate about the character felt necessary. Ryan Young brings a dissent to Sam Carpenter, while Ryan C. Showers provides a rebuttal. Episode 069 - Flaws in the Requel Formula & Scream/Halloween Legacy Cast

The “Requel” became synonymous with “Scream” (2022). However, it was Blumhouse that standardized a formula that “Scream” (2022) utilized, something which revived not only the Ghostface series from an eleven-year hiatus but revitalized the horror-slasher genre in general. The formula worked wonderfully in “Halloween” (2018) and “Scream” (2022), but the cracks that began to appear with the release of “Halloween Kills” (2021) are now becoming bigger flaws as we approach the release of “Halloween Ends” (2022). The formula was a great launching pad, but the problems with the scheduling and financial model are even perhaps affecting “Scream 6” with Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox. Nancy shares stories from the set, working with Wes Craven in her scene and as a body double for screen tests, and filming the original film in Santa Rosa. Ryan psycho-analyzes the Girl in Bathroom, the cheerleader, and how the scene has impacted him as a gay man. “What’s your favorite scary movie?” These words literally defined a generation of horror movie fans. And the helm of this question was Drew Barrymore as Casey Becker.
