Mary and Joseph were not strangers to interrupted plans, halted work, and chaotic life-changes. This Is What We Do!

In week 1 of Kingdom Builders, guest speaker Craig Groeschel (Lead Pastor of Life.Church, based in Oklahoma) introduces the basics of generosity. While a fear-based model of spending looks like "we consume, we lack, and then we fear," a generosity model looks like "we give, God multiplies, and then our faith grows." Craig breaks down what the "tithe" is and why it’s important in our faith journey, and he also shares stories of God’s provision over the years in his life and in the life of his home church.*Each November and December our church focuses on the topic of generosity. Our staff fully realizes that 2020 has hit individuals and families hard in profound financial ways, and we hope that you’ll listen to this series without guilt to give to our church. We want to share the power of generosity with you because we know it’s a powerful part of your relationship with God, and we hope that if you’re able to give that you will give to ANY church, not specifically ours! We love you and we are so thankful that you are here!*

When Your Calling Gets Confusing

This weekend Shawn reminds us that even in seasons of uncertainty, God has a plan for your life. We were never promised a calling from God that does not include difficulty, and this year has made it clear that we need to persevere through some challenging things. Instead of focusing on others' criticisms, or our own negative thoughts, we need to focus on what God thinks of us and be reminded that He made us on purpose for a purpose.*Mature content: please be aware that this message includes someone’s story involving suicide and a violent mental break, so we want to let you know about the content before you push play.

There’s Evidence Everywhere

This weekend Doug digs into the questions and doubts we’ve each had, at one time or another, regarding God. The disciple Thomas gets a bad reputation for his doubting of Jesus’ resurrection, but God is a big God who can handle our doubts and our concerns. Just like with Thomas, God meets us in our doubting; He’s not put-off or disappointed by it.

Don’t Stop in the Struggle

This weekend Ronnie talks about “how it started” and “how it’s going,” and the space between those two realities. It’s that blank space, the trials and pitfalls, that can reveal God’s presence and nearness to you. Whatever your “blank space” is, Ronnie reminds us that the most necessary thing in our lives is God’s presence; not the loss of a title, a role, or a dream in our season of waiting.

2020: What Do I Do, Say & Post?

In week four of Kingdom Culture, Shawn handles the timely question “what should I do, say, and post within the context of this crazy world we’re living in?” Shawn reminds us that there are two cultures right now: Earth 2020 culture - where we each have strong views on politics, racial tensions, the pandemic, and more and we’ll fight to be RIGHT on social media about these things, and Kingdom Culture - where our culture is built upon the Kingdom of Heaven and we show LOVE to others regardless of how different they may be from us politically, racially, or otherwise. Our words have power, and in 2020 the way we show LOVE through our differences may be the biggest way we point others to Jesus.

Crazy Joy

As our work, schooling, and day-to-day lives have changed so drastically over the last weeks, many of us have wondered things like “what is my purpose right now?” “what is my calling in this season?” Shawn encourages us, by looking at the life of Paul, that we can choose to live on-mission even when we are not able to meet with others face-to-face. In the worst conditions imaginable, as he awaited his execution and lived under house-arrest, Paul continued to reach lost people. Shawn reminds us that instead of putting off ministry for “when things are back to normal,” we can reach out, support, encourage, pray together, and invite people to church NOW, right where we are. Even if our neighborhood or city looks different today than it did a few months ago, we are still CALLED to reach the hurting, we can still live ON-MISSION, and we’re still EQUIPPED by the Holy Spirit to minister to those around us.

The Essentials

Who are we when our routines, jobs, and day-to-day lives are turned upside down? Many of us equate what we DO from 9am to 5pm with WHO WE ARE, but during this challenging season of time, who are we? What is essential in our lives? Ronnie points us to a passage from Jesus’ ministry where He clarified that what you BELIEVE is far more important than what you DO. As so many of us encounter changes to our livelihoods and vocations, Ronnie encourages us that it’s time to reorient our self-identity so that God is at its center. When we understand and believe that God’s Spirit is doing its work in us, we are able to rest in the finished work of Jesus and we can trust that “you DID, so I AM."

Take Home Church

Two churches - i5 City and Red Rocks Church - celebrate one weekend of church together! Jimmy Rollins, lead Pastor of i5 City in Baltimore, shares a message reminding us that before the Church was centralized in buildings, it was mobilized in homes. As he reads through Acts, Jimmy points out that we are perfectly placed right now - in our apartments or homes - to do ministry for those around us. The people that you do life with now (whether face-to-face or digitally) are interacting with God’s Church through YOU. Even in this uncertain time, Jesus is still in the business of restoring relationships, bringing peace, and showing grace IN houses.

My Anxiety is My Weapon

In a world that is overcome with unknowns and worries, we are often drawn to two things: anxiety and distraction. Ronnie’s message focuses on the role that God plays in seasons of chaos, as we fix our eyes on Him. Instead of numbing our anxieties with food, substances, or mindless time on a screen, we can use PRAYER to free ourselves from our burdens, releasing our worries to God. Our anxiety isn’t ours to carry, and when we release it to Him, we are able to seek the life of freedom that God so graciously wants to give us.

The Spiritual Discipline of Celebration

In this crazy, wild and burdened world, it's difficult for the church to practice the Christian discipline of joy. We need to know that joy comes from the Lord, He wants us to enjoy this life, and that, ultimately, you deserve that joy. ———— 167: TAKE HOME FAITH: Each of us has 168 hours in a week, and we get to spend 1 of those in church together each week. Following Jesus in your other 167 hours hinges on 4 things: God’s Word, prayer, worship, and God’s people.

Jesus is King

Doug continues the series by talking about all the ways a Jewish carpenter from two thousand years ago still influences our culture today. Jesus' life ended by hanging on a cross. At that moment, he must’ve looked like a complete failure to most people watching. Nothing could be further from the truth. Since that moment, his influence has not stopped growing. Usually, when someone dies, their impact on this planet begins to decrease. Jesus inverted that trajectory!

Keep it Dead

This week we launched a new series called Modern Jesus. Jesus was a young carpenter who later became a Jewish Rabbi who lived on the other side of the world over 2000 years ago. So why should we continue to follow Him today? How can he possibly still be relevant today? So much time has passed, and Jesus has only grown more influential, not less. Ronnie mentioned this weekend, Jesus surrounded himself with the people on the margins, like the social outcasts and sinners. Jesus changed the culture he walked into and disrupted the pious legalism that was enforced by the religious authorities of the day.

The Power of Words

This week Ronnie reminded us how words have incredible power and have since Creation. God brought life with words and we also see that the enemy brought death with words. Words can bring death to marriages, careers, and friendships. However, they can also make relationships sweet, families strong and days filled with hope and healing.
