Pick Six Movies

English, TV & Video, 14 seasons, 158 episodes, 6 days, 20 hours, 50 minutes
About
Pick Six Movies is a movie podcast where each season we select six movies, all related to a single theme. We examine the history of the people in front of and behind the camera, try to make sense of how and why the movie was made, then discuss each one in way too much detail to see if they are any good. Pick Six Movies is hosted by Bo Ransdell and Chad Cooper, two life-long friends with a shared passion for discussing things they barely understand in an attempt to make each other laugh.

We’re looking at six movies all about robots and what better place to start than with a movie that almost no one has seen, 1981’s Heartbeeps! S25E04: The Hitcher (2007)

Season 25 of Pick Six Movies is called Holiday Road, a season all about the joy of the road trip. And now we slam on the brakes to pick up this unwelcome traveler, 2007’s make of The Hitcher from the goons who did remakes of The Amityville Horror and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. And it’s just as dumb as it sounds. Let’s ask the burning questions: Is Sean Bean too handsome to be a hitcher? How much can one girl poop? And how does this movie make every bad decision it can? Hop in the back for a ride on the Pick Six Express with this unfortunate horror film. 00:00:00 – 00:02:24 – Welcome to the Show with Chad 00:02:25 – 00:21:12 – The History of Hitching and The Hitcher with Bo 00:21:13 – End – Discussing The Hitcher Thanks for listening and be sure to subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Pandora, iHeartRadio, Podchaser, Google Podcasts, and on Android here. S25E03: Thelma & Louise

Hey there, fellow travelers! In a rare bit of good movie-watching, Pick Six Movies heads to the American Southwest with Ridley Scott and Thelma & Louise. It only took us until season 25, one we’re calling Holiday Road, to get to a legitimately great film. We have traded in the usual dumb voices for some genuine appreciation. We talk about why the movie works as well as it does, how great the lead performances are, and, of course, some talk about Harvey Keitel’s penis. Join us, won’t you? 00:00:00 – 00:01:23 – Welcome to the Show with Bo 00:01:24 – 00:30:11 – The Making of Thelma & Louise with Chad 00:30:12 – End – Discussing Thelma & Louise Thanks for listening and be sure to subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Pandora, iHeartRadio, Podchaser, Google Podcasts, and on Android here. Can a psychological thriller be wrapped up to look like a charming Christmas tale of fate, serendipity, and romance? S9: Episode 1: Carrie (2013)

“Carrie” was Stephen King’s first published novel and his first novel adapted into a motion picture. But we’re not talking about that movie, which received multiple Oscar nominations. No, we’re talking about the 2013 remake of “Carrie”, starring a cast of incredibly talented people that made a movie that’s a real dud. But that’s just how we like our movies here, filled with dud. My mother loved this episode and told me over and over again…”They’re all gonna’ laugh at you!” Thanks mom. The post S9: Episode 1: Carrie (2013) first appeared on Legion.

S8: Episode 5: The Wicker Man (2006)

Nicolas Cage stars in “The Wicker Man” remake from 2006. This movie is a psychological crime thriller set in a modern day utopia where filmmakers deem it appropriate to have their heroic male lead beat up not one, not two, but three women in this movie. This movie is a crazy mess of misogyny, misdirection, and misguided efforts to remake a movie nobody wanted to see get remade. The post S8: Episode 5: The Wicker Man (2006) first appeared on Legion.

S8: Episode 3: Poltergeist (2015)

The remake of “Poltergeist” gets us to the half way point of this season’s theme, “Not That One, This One”. It’s a truly amazing film in its ability to underwhelm audiences in all new and unexpected ways. In this episode we try to answer who really directed the original “Poltergeist” and keep forgetting that a remake was produced, even though that’s the movie we’re discussing. Strange indeed.Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Jane Adams and Jared Harris all star in a remake of a 1980’s horror classic. That was a good movie and is why this show’s intro is all about the good one. So give a listen and enjoy the delightful train-wreck of a movie, “Poltergeist”. Paul Giamatti shows up to trade slaves and sell drugs. Michael Clarke Duncan and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa are friends who become enemies, only to become enemies who become friends.
