The Only Asset You Shouldn't Sweat Is Your Team

“You can’t train 100%, 100% of the time.” This is one of my own quotes that I strongly believe in and I took it from time spent in my sporting career. This quote also applies to business and how I think you should be treating your team. What I mean by this is if you push your staff members too hard, you will get the opposite result of what you wanted. It’s easy to take for granted what your employees do for you and your business so showing appreciation goes a long way. I like to create what I call a ‘done time’, where you and your team might finish a little earlier in the day as a reward for the hard work they have completed throughout the day. This token of gratitude has a major effect on your employee’s work, especially if they don’t expect it. Nurturing mental health and looking after our wellbeing has become a huge part of modern-day life. This applies to when we are at work as well. Neglecting this and letting stress consume people, not only feels awful but will hit your business hard in ways you might not expect. Is there anything you can do to improve your team’s attitude to work? Tune into this episode today if you want to get more from your team.   KEY TAKEAWAYS Pushing your employee or team too far can have the opposite effect that you desire. Are you doing anything to your team to make them more stressed out? Ask yourself this question and look at what you can do to reduce stress levels for people. Think about the language you are using towards your team. Language is extremely important. Consider that how you say something might not be how it’s received.   VALUABLE RESOURCES Leadership Revealed Podcast John Paul Business Coaching   ABOUT THE HOST John has several Estate and Letting Agencies in the North East of England. Do Not Surround Yourself With 'Negheads'

You might be wondering what a neghead is but don’t worry, I do go into it in the episode!! The reason for the title of this episode follows a lot of feedback I received on social media after I posted this topic online. People were messaging me and asking for advice on how to deal with negative people in their lives. Now, I’m no agony uncle but I do have some experience! With that being said, I wanted to discuss it further in this podcast episode. We all know some people who can be a drain on our time, resources and knowledge and we might even be letting them do it without realising it. This can be dangerous to our own mental health, and we must do something about it. During this episode, I provide advice on how to deal with negative people and why you need to take action ASAP. Do you think people are taking advantage of you? Give this episode a listen if you’d like some advice on what to do about it.   KEY TAKEAWAYS Don’t just surround yourself with ‘yes’ people. You need honesty and sometimes brutal honesty, as long as it’s coming from a good place.   BEST MOMENTS “It doesn’t matter what the relationship is, it’s the effect that the relationship has on you that you’ve got to be careful about.” “The one thing in life that we can’t make more of is time.”   VALUABLE RESOURCES Leadership Revealed Podcast John Paul Business Coaching   ABOUT THE HOST John has several Estate and Letting Agencies in the North East of England. What You Need Is Brutal Honesty To Grow

Are you always honest with yourself and others? In this episode, John provides advice on how to deliver brutal honesty and why it is important to be able to do this. John recently wrote an article on this subject and how brutal honesty needs to come from yourself as well as other people. If you can be honest with yourself, this will allow you to take less positive feedback on board as well, making you a better, more well-rounded person. Who doesn’t want that! “The definition of success is getting knocked down seven times and getting up eight.” John talks about how this quote has helped him over the years. Hearing criticism from someone can feel like you are being knocked down, but you must get back up, deal with it and maybe implement the feedback into improving. If you’d like to learn how to deliver brutal honesty and what it means to hear it yourself, take 15 minutes out of your day to listen to this episode.   KEY TAKEAWAYS We must learn to take criticism on board. Don’t be offended by it. It can be difficult to be brutally honest with someone but if you are carrying it out in a non-confrontational way and have their best interests at heart, then go for it.   BEST MOMENTS “There are two places where brutal honesty needs to come from. One is yourself and two is from others.” “If you’re honest with yourself, it helps you take criticism or take that feedback from others.”   VALUABLE RESOURCES Leadership Revealed Podcast John Paul Business Coaching   ABOUT THE HOST John has several Estate and Letting Agencies in the North East of England. Discover How To Own A Business And Not A Job In 2023

This is a slightly different episode to what you might expect. John describes this one as a ‘self-promo’ episode, talking about some of the content in his upcoming online course which has been created by John to help agency owners fully understand the business fundamentals that make the biggest difference to every successful business. During this episode, John touches on some of the topics he will be presenting on in the course, such as budgets and finance, creating a winning team culture and how to make yourself redundant. We are likely looking at a difficult time over the next 12 to potentially 24 months and this course will help you to get ahead on these areas before we start a new year. During the course, you will also hear from John’s accountant, where they will have an in-depth discussion on budgets and finance. This is one not to miss out on! For more information about the online course taking place on Thursday 1st December 2022 and how to book your place, click the link below: https://agencyconsulting.lpages.co/own-a-business-in-2023/#tickets   KEY TAKEAWAYS Individuals are not as strong as a solid, well-working team. Creating that winning team culture is very important.   BEST MOMENTS “The reason most people don’t have a budget, is pretty much because they don’t feel comfortable with the numbers. They don’t feel as though they understand it.” “If people feel they’re being left out or they’re not being communicated to, then descent can set in. People can feel as though they’re not part of the team and if they’re not part of the team, that’s when little side groups and little cliques form.”   VALUABLE RESOURCES Leadership Revealed Podcast Castledene Sales & Lettings   ABOUT THE HOST John has several Estate and Letting Agencies in the North East of England. How Some Of Us Get More Done

In this episode, John addresses one of the questions he is most often asked. ‘How do you have so much time to get everything done?’ It can often seem that way. The truth is it’s all about time management, or as John likes to refer to it as, priority or choice management. You can choose what you spend your time doing and ultimately what you consider to be the most important thing to get done. Plan your time wisely but don’t tie yourself into your diary. John talks about delegation and how he has done this in his business as well as being efficient and effective with your time. Do you struggle with productivity? Tune into this episode to listen to why choice management is important for you and your business.   KEY TAKEAWAYS As a business owner, now what to get involved with and what to stay out of. This is all part of time management and using your own time effectively.   BEST MOMENTS “It’s all about finding people that you trust.” “Once you have that ability to hand things over, i.e. To delegate to people, then you can concentrate, and you can go on to something else.”   VALUABLE RESOURCES Leadership Revealed Podcast Castledene Sales & Lettings   ABOUT THE HOST John has several Estate and Letting Agencies in the North East of England. How To Leave A Legacy

In this episode, John wanted to talk about something he hasn’t spoken about much before in the podcast…leaving a legacy. Many people get into business for the here and now and don’t always think about the long game. What are your goals with the business? What will happen to the business when you’re no longer around? We need to think about these things. John talks about the meaning of legacy, generational wealth and how to successfully pass on the torch to your next generation. Are you thinking long term? Tune into this episode for advice on how you should be teaching your children to take over the business…successfully.   KEY TAKEAWAYS Preparation is key. Leaving a business legacy to your children means you must teach and prepare them for things they will come up against in life. No one will be as passionate about your business as you. However, if you can pass on the torch successfully and show the next generation why the business is important, you will get somebody who is as closely passionate about it.   BEST MOMENTS “I do believe that the reason we should get into business, is to leave a legacy, as well as the here and now.” “I would rather leave my kids nothing but have them prepped enough in life so that they can go and make their own career. They can forge their own path in life.”   VALUABLE RESOURCES Leadership Revealed Podcast Castledene Sales & Lettings   ABOUT THE HOST John has several Estate and Letting Agencies in the North East of England. How One Agent Systemised Her Whole Business In Less Than 90 Days

In this special episode, John talks to Letting Agent and expert property mentor, Katrina Jones. Katrina has a fascinating story. After making the decision at the age of 19 to sell her car, quit her job, change her name, and book a one-way ticket around the world, within 5 years’ time she would become an international award-winning Sales and Marketing Manager in Melbourne. Quite the turnaround! She later returned to the UK and got into the property industry. Through a lot of hard work, she discovered her passion and went on to build her own business. John and Katrina have been working together for a few years. Through working together, Katrina managed to systemise her own business within 3 months - a HUGE achievement! During their time together, Katrina talks about Rent to Rent – what it is and how she got into it. Katrina also talks about how much systemising her business made a huge difference to her life and the process of selling her business and what criteria she had for selling. Katrina is currently in the final stages of the handover period with the buyers and is looking forward to having more freedom and time to travel. Are you looking to systemise your business? Don’t be afraid to let others take the reins.   BEST MOMENTS “When you’ve got the right mentor and when you’ve got a really solid goal, it’s happening or it’s happening. You’re just unstoppable.” “This is one of the things I learned during the process of systemisation, and it was a really uncomfortable lesson for me, and it was realising that there are a lot of people out there that will do things a lot better than I can. There are a lot of people out there better, smarter, more experienced in certain aspects and I think letting go of the incredibly limiting belief that I had to be the smartest person in the business otherwise no one would respect me. I had to be constantly in control otherwise things might fall apart. When I learned to completely let go and let people make the mistake and then correct it, I’d be like oh my god, they’ve done it better.”   VALUABLE RESOURCES Leadership Revealed Podcast Castledene Sales & Lettings   ABOUT THE HOST John has several Estate and Letting Agencies in the North-East of England. His father was a world-famous film producer, and his mother was one of the first women to gain a scholarship to Oxford University. An impressive family indeed but Nicholas certainly worked extremely hard to get to where he is today. Leaders Are Readers

In this episode, John delves into the significance of reading and why this task helps to create stronger leaders. John is an avid reader himself (as you’ll know from previous episodes) and has a sizeable library of great books. Reading has helped John to improve on many of his existing traits, including how to communicate better, empathy, critical thinking, and other areas. John touches on how reading can make you a better, more well-rounded person, using Winston Churchill as an example of how reading changed John’s original belief on him. Whether you own a business, manage a team or are a part of the workforce yourself, reading will help you. The skills that John talks about in this episode are vital in being a great team leader and becoming a better communicator. How many books per month do you read? Tune into this episode if you want to learn how reading can improve your mental health and make you a better person.   KEY TAKEAWAYS Reading creates a stronger mindset. When reading and learning about a specific topic, read from different perspectives and authors. This helps to develop unbiased and informed opinions. You can then go away and learn about these words and start to use them in your everyday life.   BEST MOMENTS “The more you read, the more information you will retain and the more you will actually know”. “Reading a lot of books on different topics, also makes you more interesting”.   VALUABLE RESOURCES Leadership Revealed Podcast Castledene Sales & Lettings   ABOUT THE HOST John has several Estate and Letting Agencies in the North East of England. Personal Branding Vs Corporate Branding - Dividing Opinion

John Paul is talking about branding – the topic that regularly divides opinion. Should all promotion be around an individual or should it be the profile of the organisation that dominates? John explores the negatives and positives for both personal and corporate branding and shares how his organisation is moving forward and why the choices they have made work. This episode will help any business owner clarify what will be the right choice for their business, listen in and find out more.   KEY TAKEAWAYS Personal branding We all like dealing with people. As a customer, we want the salesperson who is knowledgeable, pleasant and makes us feel special – as if we are the only customer they have Personal branding works really well with face to face sales because you can build an emotional connection. If branding is built around an individual and they later leave, there will be a significant impact for the business owner and company. If something negative happens for a personal brand it’s your personal reputation that suffers. Corporate branding Organisations can secure new business because of their name and reputation. If a company has longevity people feel it can be trusted. Even though people will have changed inside the business, if the corporate brand has built a reputation over time this will be a factor in consumer choice. It can be perceived that a corporate brand moves more slowly and lacks the connection, the personal touch. We are trying to put the person forward as the property expert,  supported by the corporate structure.   BEST MOMENTS ‘I didn’t buy my Mac because of the salesman I bought it because of the company’ ‘People like dealing with people’ ‘I didn’t buy my house because of the person selling, I liked the house’ ‘There  can be security and comfort around a corporate image’   VALUABLE RESOURCES Leadership Revealed Podcast Castledene Sales & Lettings   ABOUT THE HOST John has several Estate and letting agents in the North East of England. Shared Values And Alignment And The Key To Success With Adele Crocker, MD Castledene Sales & Lettings

In this fascinating episode, John is with his Managing Director Adele Crocker. They discuss Adele’s journey from her promotion to branch manager when John bought the estate agency she was working for through to her current role as MD. John saw something in Adele early on and she has grown into and been hugely successful in the roles she has undertaken at the Castledene Sales & Lettings culminating in her current role as Managing Director. John and Adele reflect on the critical importance of alignment in values and vision when you are working in unison to maintain and develop a successful business. As an empire builder for John taking on an MD was about stepping away from the day to day so he can extend and build further, listen in and find out how Adele helps make this happen.   KEY TAKEAWAYS When I took on the manager role I knew there was a job to do. I was managing colleagues I had previously worked alongside It’s a skill set to be able to nurture the change in the relationship with others and understand it. Moving to area manager and managing other leaders brought different challenges but was easier because I had been managing a very successful branch so I already had credibility. The aspirational branch managers were keen to find out how I had achieved the success as a branch manager, they wanted to know how and what they needed to do in their own branches to achieve the same level of success asking how is she bringing new business? How does she retain staff? How does she develop new staff and how is she operationally effective? For those who felt threatened by it – I spent time explaining my role was about making them the best they could be and the best their branch could be. Those who didn’t stay were those who were managers because they had the most experience not necessarily because they were good leaders. When you are moving very fast as an entrepreneur you have to bring other people in, otherwise, you cannot continue to move forward at pace. You’ve grown into letting go and I’ve grown into taking more on You can only let go in a business when you have the systems and processes in place, the generic people in place and a leader. It’s about having the opportunity to grow and having your boundaries challenged One of the most important attributes of a leader is the ability to enable and empower others to grow. The trust element is a vital requirement in a business relationship. Working with a visionary is about keeping up and when required slowing down the pace so the most effective foundations can be put in place. When you employ a Managing Director to run your business you don’t want to be involved in the day to day running of your business. A meeting every month to discuss different branches,  Key Performance Indicators along with profit and loss gives an accurate and informed overview. When your values are aligned and you have a high level of  trust, you are able to work effectively in unison It’s not just about giving someone the title it’s about enabling them to flourish in the role. You can get it right the majority of times if you put in the due diligence With any change, it’s about getting others on board and making people feel a part of what’s going on is key. The clearer and more transparent you are the more people are part of the change and the easier it is.   BEST MOMENTS ‘All I ever look for is growth’ ‘I was a natural leader before having the title – when people had a problem they came to me and it was me who would be pushed forward to speak with managers when needed’ ‘I realised I needed tough love when I took on the role people liked me, from working with me but they didn’t respect me’   VALUABLE RESOURCES Leadership Revealed Podcast Castledene Sales & Lettings   ABOUT THE HOST John has several Estate and letting agents in the North East of England. How to Effectively Deal With Set Backs

‘Dealing with setbacks is a part of business’  As John Paul works towards his new Agency Roadmap membership site, for letting agents and estate agents going live he reflects on the reality of setbacks in different forms being part of business, whatever your industry.  The bigger you become the more you are going to mess up but the real key to any situation or set back is having a plan about what you do and how you respond.  John shares in detail the effective and productive steps you can take in response to any situation that will consolidate your role as a leader and ensure you achieve the greatest long-term benefit, listen in and find out more.     KEY TAKEAWAYS  In business life, there are always setbacks.  The vital part of any setback is what we do and how we put it right when a setback happens.  Stay calm, thinking emotionally will mean you will make an emotional response and decision.  It’s vital to think through the problem calmly and logically.  Deal with the immediate aftermath, as a leader you need to be seen as dealing with things. Not doing anything or stepping back will de-position you as the leader.  Formulate an ABC plan and have a short term, midterm and ultimately long-term solution in place in response to the situation.  Having more than one possible plan will give you an advantage and mean you are well prepared when dealing with the situation.  Think of the worst possible scenario for that situation and plan for it.  PSB – Problem, Solution, Benefit, Whenever there is a situation or problem there will be multiple ways it can be solved  The first solution you come up with may not result in the best long-term benefit       Always have a solution but always understand what the benefit is.     BEST MOMENTS  ‘Clear your head – be logical don’t think with emotion’  ‘In business, cool heads will always prevail’  ‘Having systems and processes are great but everyone will still mess up on a regular basis’     VALUABLE RESOURCES  Leadership Revealed Podcast     ABOUT THE HOST  John has several Estate and letting agents in the North East of England. He also has a consultancy business where he teaches agents how to grow and scale a sustainable business.  John’s doing this podcast to grow in the estate agency space but also to try and break into other industries as the formula he has developed for estate agency success, will work in other SME industries and he wants to break into high ticket coaching.     CONTACT METHOD  https://www.facebook.com/agencyconsulting/  https://www.linkedin.com/in/john-paul-14167211/  https://twitter.com/TheLHAExpert  johnpaul@agency-consulting.co.uk  This show was brought to you by Progressive Media

How to Get Buy-in From Friends & Family

Business people usually have to do extra hours and do things that non business owners don’t have to do so it can be hard to get your friends and family to support you. So in this episode John explains 5 things you can do to get your family and friends on board and support your business rather than create resistance.   KEY TAKEAWAYS You have to accept it’s not always going to work. People aren’t always going to agree with your choices but you and they have to accept that you’re not going to agree. This doesn’t mean accept that they’re actively trying to tell you and prove to you that you’re wrong. Have rules and stick to them. Create a routine so that you can make time for the little things that mean a lot or do things that you enjoy or need to do. This can help to build a good healthy work life balance too. Make time for the little things. Little things can often mean a lot to other people. Spend time with the people who love you, don’t buy them. Show people the benefits of you having a business. Don’t buy them but show them what it can bring you by creating amazing memories. Share your dream with your family. Explain to them what you’re trying to achieve. If someone’s not bothered about it then they’re probably not the right person for you to surround yourself by.   BEST MOMENTS ‘There’s a big difference between someone who supports you but doesn’t agree and someone who is actively going out of their way to prove that your choice is wrong’. ‘Politely agree to disagree’. ‘Acceptance is a big part of a relationship’. ‘If that’s what you want then do it’. ‘Treat the with your time not your cash.’   VALUABLE RESOURCES Leadership Revealed Podcast   ABOUT THE HOST John has several Estate and letting agents in the North East of England. Don’t Work Too Hard

In this episode John is discussing the importance of not working too hard, this can seem counter-intuitive but when you are working hard and trying to grow a business you must take the time out to recharge so that you are able to continue on successfully towards the goals you have set. As someone with extensive experience as a business owner, John knows what it’s like to do it the wrong way as well as the right way. For the first 3 years he was in business he didn’t take any holiday and experienced all of the challenges that not taking the time out to recharge brings. Listen in and find out why not working too hard benefits both you, your business and your employees.    KEY TAKEAWAYS Take planned time off – you might not feel you deserve it or want to but you must do this. As entrepreneurs and business owners, we have more responsibility and take more risks than anyone else You need to eat well and train if you want to get the best out of your body Stay hydrated, eat lots of vegetables, rest well and exercise. Get up early and get things done – make sure you have tried with full intensity before you say it’s not for you. My early morning routine means I can get lots of work done before other people want my time Relax – don’t take things too personally if somebody lets you down or someone doesn’t do what they said they would it’s about what they want to do not anything to do with you personally.  Listen to yourself, to your body and try to do everything you possibly can do to unstress yourself – you will benefit in the long run, your business will benefit and most of all your employees will benefit.   BEST MOMENTS ‘Listen to you, your partner and your body to make sure you take a break when you need it’ ‘You’ve got to work hard to build a business so it’s important to take time out and relax when your body tells you to’ ‘We want to have those stress-free situations’   VALUABLE RESOURCES Leadership Revealed Podcast   ABOUT THE HOST John has several Estate and letting agents in the North East of England. Keep Business Simple But Effective

‘Success is predictable because people who have kept things simple and done the basics will repeat their systems and methods.’ In this episode of Leadership revealed John provides and explains reason why doing the small, basic things consistently can have a positive effect on your business. He also gives tips on how important staying on track is and how planning can help you do this.   KEY TAKEAWAYS Things may seem difficult if you’re trying to build a business in an industry that you’re not familiar in so ensure you’re in a field that you’re either researched thoroughly or you already know well. Don’t try and change the industry but try to do the simple things that work well to a high standard then repeat. Don’t get distracted from things that stray away from your businesses core tasks. Even if there are new things that are ‘the next big thing but are too good to be true’, it’s likely that they’re too good to be true so stay on track. You must have a plan, short term and long term. It’s good to have a daily plan, weekly plan and yearly plan to get the things you need to do done. If you don’t know what your end goal is then how do you know where you want to get or what you’re doing? Surround yourself with the best people you can as early as you can so that you can get to the next level as quickly as possible. Be around people who are more successful than you. This doesn’t mean drop your friends. Look to improve everything you do 24/7 by innovating. This doesn’t mean create something new every time but look improve what you’re doing constantly. This could be adding things like new technology. Become the authority in your field as it attracts new opportunities however be careful not to get distracted by things that will make you stray from your end vision. Do the little things consistently everyday and make a habit of it. This could be things such as breaking bad habits or starting positive ones.   BEST MOMENTS ‘Keep business simple’ ‘Do the basics but do them well’ ‘Have a plan to motivate you to do what you need to get done completed’. ‘Be more efficient so you can be more effective’. ‘If you’re the cleverest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room.’   VALUABLE RESOURCES Leadership Revealed Podcast   ABOUT THE HOST John has several Estate and letting agents in the North East of England. Why Good Mental Health in Business is Vital

‘In our industry, we see the glitz and the glamour the good things we don’t see the dark side the mental anguish people might go through’  Dave is very candid and open about his journey and is talking to John about it - from the start of his business through its very rapid growth and  on to year 4 when it went into administration.  After the company went bust Dave become very depressed and in this frank discussion he shares how he felt emotionally and what it took to move forward and start again.  John and Dave explore the stigma that still exists for men in talking about mental health and share why it’s so important to talk to someone. This is an uplifting episode about learning, investing in people, balance and celebrating the wins in business listen in and enjoy.     KEY TAKEAWAYS  If you are always open and looking for opportunities, opportunities will come.  You have to create your own luck by being open to opportunities.  We helped unemployed people get back into work and linked them with employers which we did very well. We did this across the country nationalising the company very quickly.  The truth is it is exhausting running any sort of business it’s all-consuming  I could tell you anything about the business but nothing about my personal life.  When it started to feel like the wheels were falling off the business my depression started to come to the surface.  At the start, I was ashamed of it but the more I read and the understood about it more I was able to process what was happening.  When I sought help I saw a counsellor weekly and used meditating as a coping mechanism.  My mental health is better, once you have suffered you are always wary about going back  I love being an entrepreneur when you work for someone else you are on someone else’s vision line and I always wanted to own my own business.  I have now launched a consultancy business and it’s doing well. I have a business partner who has the same values and beliefs. We back each other and challenge each other to be the best we can be.    I like to invest in people and if you back people then the journey can be very enjoyable  If you know and understand the fundamentals of growing and scaling a business you can do that in any arena  If you struggling then don’t keep quiet talk to someone.     BEST MOMENTS  ‘I’m a good leader and motivator but was never a good manager’  ‘Leadership is all about the strategy, where you want to take the business  managing is about how you are going to do it’  ‘I’d be driving the car and suddenly I’d burst into tears’     VALUABLE RESOURCES  Leadership Revealed Podcast     ABOUT THE HOST  John has several Estate and letting agents in the North East of England. How to Use Your Time Wisely

‘Where do you find the time?’   John gets asked often how he manages to fit in all of the work he does alongside his personal life. His answer to this is that he uses his time efficiently by working intensely within time windows. In this episode, John gives helpful tips that he uses himself to manage his time well.    KEY TAKEAWAYS  Set SMART objectives and be strict with them. These need to be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-bound. I do these weekly every Sunday. Always look ahead in your diary, ensure you save time aside to do the smaller tasks that will help you achieve your goal. Delegate as much work as you can, don’t take it all on because you’re not the only one that could do your job. It’s damaging to everyone and you’ll burn yourself out. Eliminate as many distractions as you can so you can get the best work completed. Make sure you have the ability to say “no” so you don’t end up taking on too much work which will result in not giving the best quality. Ask awkward questions such as “am I the best person to do this?” It’s good to have a reward for achieving aagoal that you’ve set, especially if it’s a big one. This doesn’t have to be for every goal but for the longer term ones or the most important ones it’s important to reward yourself.  Analyse what went well and what hasn’t gone so well. Look at what has change and what needs to change and review what you’ve been doing including your time management.  Treat your time very preciously by ensuring you’re not wasting time on people who you aren’t going to gain from. Be selfish so you have no distractions and get your work done to a high standard. If you find something hard to do, in this podcast episode, difficult then pick 3 or 4 things and build on these things over time.    BEST MOMENTS  ‘Being smart with your goals will mean you’ll achieve a lot more.’  ‘The more you do it, the more efficient you’ll get’.  ‘Say no to people.’  ‘You’re not going to get better over night.’        ABOUT THE HOST  John has several Estate and letting agents in the North East of England. Franchise Vs Startup, Which is Right For YOU

‘Do you buy a franchise or start up on your own?’   This is a great podcast to help you decide whether you should be looking at a franchise or starting up on your own.  John takes us through a comprehensive list of the pros and cons for each option and looks at the reasons and types of people who take on franchises and those who start up on their own. Listen in, hear the pros and cons and then decide.     KEY TAKEAWAYS  The franchisee PROS  Systems - A large majority, if not all of the systems are given to you as part of the franchise package.  Support and Training from Franchisor - You are trained on how to operate all systems with support and further training.  People in the same position - There are lots of other people in the same position and across franchisee’s, there are communities and groups who regularly interact.  The brand - The name is a great help in building the business.  Proven track record - People maybe more likely to use a company and the franchisee rather than an unknown name that has just opened.  The Franchisee Cons  The support can be poor - Sometimes as the franchisee, you can be paying for support that you do not receive.  You have to pay a licence or franchise fee - You are making all the effort,  it’s your time but the name over the door can be very costly for the business.  Tied in - You are not allowed to do lots of things without the approval of the franchisor.  Set way of working - There could be an issue with location but a set pattern from the franchisor will not account for this.  Not always up to date - Franchise companies can be set in their ways with advertising and working practice.  HQ Approval - You need to have approval for many things and often the head office can be reluctant to change or pay for anything different.  Staring your own business PROS  Freedom and control - You have the freedom to implement what you want when you want  Fees - The majority of money made belongs to the owner, there is no portion to pay to someone else  Starting your own business CONS  Lack of support - There is very little support available and as independents, there is not the shared community support.  Building the brand - You have to build a brand from scratch and you don’t know what you don’t know.  Marketing - Unless you’ve worked in marketing you probably won’t have a customer avatar or understand where you fit in the market.  Systems - Initially, there will be no systems in place and it can take 2-3 years before you have the systems in place that the business requires.      BEST MOMENTS  ‘Franchisees are training with my company because they want something more to push their businesses forward‘  ‘You are paying for stuff and not getting fair value back and that can be disappointing’  ‘If I want to rebrand tomorrow I can’     VALUABLE RESOURCES  Leadership Revealed Podcast     ABOUT THE HOST  John has several Estate and letting agents in the North East of England. Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

‘Don’t  live somebody else’s life and stop comparing yourself to others’ It’s easy to compare yourself with someone else - it’s something we have all done. In this episode John shares why it’s important to take a holistic view and focus on yourself to get where you need to be and achieve the success you want. Listen in, expand your view and see the bigger picture.   KEY TAKEAWAYS You shouldn’t compare yourself to others it’s toxic and it doesn’t get you where you need to be. Nobody gets to their goal without sacrifice, hard work,  consistency and dedication. We see the end results but we don’t see the effort and people often lie about how much hard work was involved. It took me ten years to be an overnight success. You’ve got to take a holistic view and consider how the time frame makes a difference when people share their success. If your business is made up of several components its vital that you learn and understand each part in order to make your business a success. When you have mastered a component, you can focus on a different area learning your craft and trade. Every second that is not spent on you and moving you towards your goal is a wasted second. The focus needs to be on you and on how you can improve not on how others can improve or how far ahead they are. You must be realistic and accept where you are. Acceptance is the key to growth. Understanding where you are is the critical component in taking you to where you want to be. Stop looking at others and take your business forward.   BEST MOMENTS ‘We see the end results but we don’t see the effort, people lie about how much hard work was involved’ ‘You look at others and compare yourself with their results, not their effort’ ‘You have your own boat and your own race to run’   VALUABLE RESOURCES Leadership Revealed Podcast   ABOUT THE HOST John has several Estate and letting agents in the North East of England. The Best Ways To Deal With Overwhelm

Anyone who’s been in business for some time will have felt the drowning effects of overwhelm. Incrementally, the small things pile up, until they’ve become a mountain that stands between us and our goals. It’s easy to slip down the cracks at these points, but as John discusses this week, there is a way out, and it’s simpler than you think. KEY TAKEAWAYS Overwhelm is when things get so much, that we lose inspiration, and can’t continue with our goals, meaning we end up doing far less than usual. You need to chill out. Take some perspective and remind yourself that it isn’t the end of the world. It’s rarely as bad as you think. Sometimes the dread is worse than the reality of any situation. Compartmentalise it. Break up your tasks into sections and keep them separate from each other. It makes it easier to prioritise. Break it down until you can see what the issues are. By taking problems apart, you can see the basic elements that are slowing you up. Delegate if you can. Work out if you can pass off any tasks to people you trust. Just do it. Dig your heels in and work through.  BEST MOMENTS ’The world’s not going to end. Things aren’t going to fall off a cliff’ ‘When people panic they make rash decisions. This compounds the issue’ ‘If I allowed overwhelm to get to me, I would just say “screw it, I’m not doing anything”' ‘Overwhelm is very real. It happens to everyone in business. But don’t let it beat you' VALUABLE RESOURCES   Leadership Revealed Podcast   ABOUT THE HOST John has several Estate and letting agents in the North East of England. Always be Recruiting

In this episode John gives top tips on how to improve the recruitment sector of your business. This includes the importance of always recruiting and making sure you keep good relations with possible candidates for future positions.     KEY TAKEAWAYS  One of the hardest things when running a business is recruiting new staff. When we look through CV’s we look for people whose values like up with ours and the majority of the time they don’t.  Most of the time we only get quality CV’s when we are least in need, looking for or expect them.  Always have the same level of focus on recruiting whether you need that person or you don’t. Always have your job advertisements out there.  Always recruiting keeps your staff on high alert and gets rid of the thought that they’re irreplaceable if they don’t perform.  Always have 2, 3 or more adverts on the recruiting websites and build on the bank of quality CV’s.   Always speak to the candidates. Give them a call and build that relationship with them. More importantly be honest with them.  Always follow up from interviews or phone calls to the top 3 or 4 candidates to give them feedback.  Once you’ve build a good relationship and connection with candidates, the more likely they are to say yes to the job if you require them or a job vacancy opens up.   There’s nothing wrong with sending a follow up email even if it’s months after you last spoke to that candidate. Stay in touch with them and be consistent.    BEST MOMENTS  ‘A great bit of advice, I was once given, was to always be recruiting.’  ‘You don’t know when you’ll need to recruit.’  ‘By always recruiting you will always be on the front foot.’  ‘Always filter through the CV’s, little and often.’  ‘Stay in touch.’     VALUABLE RESOURCES  Leadership Revealed Podcast     ABOUT THE HOST  John has several Estate and letting agents in the North East of England. Getting 'Called Out' Online

Has your business ever been publicly called out on social media by an agitated customer? In this episode, John explains how to control our primal instinct of retaliating back and adding to fire, but instead using these professional tactics to resolve the situation. Handling negative feedback in the correct manner can potentially gain new clients and reinforce the trust back into your existing clients.    KEY TAKEAWAYS  Keep calm and take five minutes, taking a quick break to chill out and think about something else away from the situation, go outside, go for a walk. Being called out on social media does not require an instant reaction.   Leave emotion out of it. You may want to go berserk on this person, but you absolutely cannot. Respond on facts, not emotion.  Be professional. Believe it or not, you need to thank them as they have given you feedback.   Be Victorian in your response, keep a stiff upper a lip and run into war with some integrity. A polite and professional response to criticism may will give you the upper hand by not stooping to their level.  Stay factual and stay on the point, if they’ve asked you a question then answer it, don’t bury your head in the sand and avoid the question.     BEST MOMENTS  ‘Anybody who says they have never made a mistake in business is either a liar or they don’t own a business’  ‘You can utilise bad feedback in your business to improve and make your company better’   ‘You can’t be offended at facts’   ‘Be Victorian in your response’  ‘Be incredibly professional at all times’       VALUABLE RESOURCES  Leadership Revealed Podcast     ABOUT THE HOST  John has several Estate and letting agents in the North East of England. Are You in it For The Long Haul?

‘Are you in business for the long haul or are you in it for a quick fix?’ John explains the importance of having longevity within your business in order to see results and be successful. He also discusses tips for being successful in the long run and the advantages of doing so.   KEY TAKEAWAYS A lot of people are surprised by the amount of time it takes to become successful. This is usually because they over estimate how much they they can achieve in a year but underestimate how much they can do in 10 years. Every person who’s on social media that says they’ve got rich quick are in the 0.0000001% of any single person that’s ever been in business. Don’t believe the bullshit that’s been put on social media by people who haven’t worked hard and been consistent for a long period of time. They don’t show you what they’ve had to go through. Have the strategy right to start with then break it down into tactics. Business it too complicated and has too must structure to work if you don’t break it down. You need to create all of the small habits and do the basics often in order to get to your end goal. You can’t be inconsistent. By helping out 1 person, you never know who they could put you in touch with as a result of working with you. Don’t deviate from your main goal of running your business or take your eye off of the ball.   BEST MOMENTS ‘If you do the basics well on a daily basis, you will achieve more in the long term’ ‘You don’t see the hard work that goes on behind the scene.’ ‘You’ve got to be in the long haul to be a success.’ ‘Anything you do in business you’ve got to break t down into bite size chunks.’ ‘With no structure in business there will chaos.’  ‘It’s all about creating those small habits.’ ‘The more often you do the little things, the more likely it will become a habit.’     ‘Have a minimum of a 5 year plan.’ ‘Don’t have shiny penny syndrome.’   VALUABLE RESOURCES Leadership Revealed Podcast   ABOUT THE HOST John has several Estate and letting agents in the North East of England. Are You an AskHole?

In this episode of Leadership Revealed John explains what Askholes are, how to know whether you are one and how to deal with them. John also touches on how you can give the best advice and avoid wasting your time on people who don’t deserve it. Listen in to find out more!     KEY TAKEAWAYS  An Askhole is someone who will repeatedly ask for your opinion/experience and yet won’t follow your advice.   The majority of the time when you ask somebody, with a lot more experience, for advice the advice they will give will be good advice. If they then go and ask someone else, then it’s likely that they weren’t given the advice that they wanted to hear.  How do you know if you’re an Askhole?  You need to have a lot of self-awareness? It's NEVER Their Fault

John reflects on the Tenant Fee ban, its imminent implementation and the ways some have prepared, and others have not! We all have experiences to share about those people who will never take responsibility and be accountable for their own actions or inactions. Listen in to find out more about ways to improve and develop the soft skills that support effective action in any situation.   KEY TAKEAWAYS The Tenant Fee Ban which comes into effect on 1 June 2019 was first announced 18 months ago and will considerably alter the way letting agents charge tenants. The initial legislation details were first announced 18 months ago so that agents and landlords had time to prepare but currently across groups and forums people are still asking what they should do about it, despite the closeness to implementation. Common excuses are ‘I haven’t got the time’ and ‘I don’t know where to go to find out information about it’ Within 2 hours of its announcement, my team and I met to identify the impact of the Tenant Fee ban and the areas in which we could make changes. 48 hours later we had a plan to replace the income that would be lost due to the ban. By the end of the week, everyone in our business was aware of the plan and understood their role in implementing it. Those people asking basic questions a week before such a big change for the industry are those who won’t take responsibility or accountability for not taking action or preparing in the time available for preparation. If I’m not ready for something I look at myself and the actions I have taken and ask myself ‘what happened this time, that resulted in me being in this situation? How can I do better next time? Developing soft skills, improving your mental skills can be done in the same way as developing hard skills such as football. After the event, you review and analyse so that the next time you are able to improve.   BEST MOMENTS ‘When you have a response from people that is untrue they either haven’t read the post properly or not understood it’ ‘The fact is and its pretty black and white if you are not prepared, you haven’t got a strategy and you haven’t got a plan’ ‘You have got the time there is no such thing as ‘I haven’t got the time’ when it is something that affects your business’     VALUABLE RESOURCES Leadership Revealed Podcast   ABOUT THE HOST John has several Estate and letting agents in the North East of England. How to Deal With Negative People in Your Life

It’s not new that we encounter a negative person in our social networks, may it be in your personal life, career or business. So, in this episode of the Leadership Revealed Podcast, John gives tips on how you can deal with negative people in your life. We should be wary of who we surround ourselves with since it massively affects not just your mood for the day, but the direction where you want your life should be heading. The last thing we want is to slow or push us back on our journey towards success. Discover more when you tune in. KEY TAKEAWAYS Most of the time, the negative stuff that you’ve been dealing with are caused by how erratic the dynamics are within the circle. If a team member is unhappy with his co-workers, it’s highly likely that he won’t be able to perform well. How to deal with toxic customers? Remember that no matter how negative they come off; you have to present the solutions you can offer to them. You need to be firm and don’t put up with the negativity. How to deal with toxic family members? If they’re some topic that always triggers a heated discussion between family members, then try not to bring it up. Change the subject rather than try to change their mind. Everybody’s got their own opinion, and don’t ever try to change them. Don’t let the negativity tar you down. You have to continue growing and nurturing yourself, your business, and your other relationships. BEST MOMENTS “You’re in control of how you operate. You’re in control of the effort you put into something.” “As long as you’re firm with them and you present the solutions, you’re going to get much of an amenable conversation.” “Don’t overthink things; don’t value too much what that person said.” “Don’t worry about people that cannot determine your future.” VALUABLE RESOURCES Leadership Revealed Podcast ABOUT THE HOST John has several Estate and letting agents in the North East of England. How to Deal With Poor Performing Staff

We all have at some point had staff who didn’t perform to their fullest potential. It’s frustrating, it’s annoying and it can be costly  John goes through the 5 tips that he has implemented in his business to ensure you have staff who you can either turn around to perform or you can use to manage out of the business.  Understand what the issue is. It can only be three things. Is it an attitude issue – has the employee got a bad attitude or brought in outside issues to work. Are they not achieving the desired results and why? Are they not carrying out the tasks/actions needed to get the said results?   Evidence Always have as much evidence as you possibly can when dealing with non-performers. It makes the conversation so much easier and gives them no wiggle room. As soon as you start saying the word “I think” “I feel” etc then you don’t have enough evidence   Communication This is vital to turning around non-performers. You need to nip it in the bud as soon as the issue arises and not wait a moment longer. Good communication is the sign of a great leader/manager   Plan Forward Use SMART goals to move the performance forward and use time frames and agreed actions. Always follow up on this also – Never leave it to get better all by itself, this rarely happens   Don’t get emotive As hard as it sounds when its your business, you can’t let emption get involved in non-performance. Manage them on facts and evidence rather than emotion. VALUABLE RESOURCES Leadership Revealed Podcast   ABOUT THE HOST John Paul is a serial entrepreneur in various sectors. How to get Sh#t Done!

‘I see lots of friends and competitors complaining that they don’t have enough time to get stuff done’ It’s important people know how to get stuff done to progress themselves and their business, in this episode John shares the steps you need to take to get sh#t done. If you feel like you never have enough time and can’t get things done then this episode is for you, listen in and start using your time effectively and getting sh#t done.   KEY TAKEAWAYS In business and life, you need to know what to do, creating a list of everything you need to get done is the starting point. Every week you should create an overview of the tasks that need to be completed over the coming week. Every day at the beginning of each day you should create a list of what needs to be achieved in the coming day. This list should be in the order of urgency to ensure you address the most pressing things first. If you are unable to do some of the things on your list you must source expertise to get the tasks done. Getting sh#t done is not linear, you can be working through several aspects of a project simultaneously Time is the one thing that you can’t get any more of, we all have the same amount of time. You need to be disciplined and extremely efficient with your time. Diarise everything that is happening, scheduled into 15-minute slots and be realistic about the amount of time it will take to complete a task. In business not everything will go to plan, you need to be pragmatic and focus on a creative solution. It’s vital that when something goes wrong you do not take it back to do yourself. This is counter-intuitive and will hold your business back, you cannot do it all. If a process is not working you should review it to see if it can be eliminated, automated or delegated to make it successful. Nobody has ever succeeded on the first time and never made a mistake thereafter. Not doing anything guarantees failure, just f#king doing it gives you a chance to succeed.   BEST MOMENTS ‘Business people and leaders must delegate’ ‘We all find our niches in business and life’ ‘Communication skills and time management are the 2 most important skills a business owner requires’ ‘We found the expertise, that’ how we got shit done’ ‘It doesn’t mean you do one thing then another, then another’   VALUABLE RESOURCES Leadership Revealed Podcast The Talent Code book by Daniel Coyle   ABOUT THE HOST John Paul is a serial entrepreneur in various sectors. How to Deal With Industry Disruptions

Disruptions are ALWAYS a good thing. Don’t ever feel threatened when they come for your business. There are many ways on how you can welcome this significant change with open arms. Learn them today as you tune in to this episode of the Leadership Revealed Podcast! John, your host, prepared 5 useful tips that are not just applicable in the property field, but in any industry you’re in. Let’s admit it, there are just too many business owners and leaders that can’t just wrap around their mind on what to do next when new things enter the playing field. The best you can do is to accept disruptions’ existence, be adaptable, and always be prepared with a plan. KEY TAKEAWAYS 5 Tips On How to Deal With Industry Disruptions Accept that it’s out of your control. You should know for a fact that disruptions appear all the time in industries. Get the frustration out of the way and learn how to be adaptable with these disruptions. Have a plan. Always be on your feet on how you could devise a plan that could still position yourself in your industry. In property, we don’t know yet enough details about the abolishment of Section 21. Until we know the final decision, observe and learn more so you’ll be ready when it’s finally time to do a detailed plan. Act quickly. Know your numbers since they are excellent indicators what’s going to work and what’s not. Compartmentalise your decisions. It’s very rare that issues that your business goes through are simultaneously related. When you compartmentalised, it’s effortless and quick to find solutions. Learn from it. People will tell you to learn from your ups and downs or from the other people who’ve experienced it, but what we forget is to learn from every disruption that is happening. BEST MOMENTS “It’s happening. There’s not a single thing to do about it.” “Business is tough. Business is not for the faint-hearted. If you want to be successful in business, then you will have to make some decisions.” “If you can compartmentalize, there’s nothing that gives me great satisfaction than being able to cross off that particular issue or that industry disruption. That’s done now. We’ve dealt with that.” “It’s not the necessary individual itemised issues that a particular industry had brought up, but it’s more of the theory from learning from it – it’s the theory of being able to adapt to issues, problems and situations quickly.” VALUABLE RESOURCES Leadership Revealed Podcast The Talent Code book by Daniel Coyle ABOUT THE HOST John Paul is a serial entrepreneur in various sectors. We Need to Get Comfortable with Being Uncomfortable

‘Even though I was uncomfortable I got comfortable, was able to deal with the curveball and I’ve grown as a result of it’ What is your response when in an uncomfortable situation, fight, flight or freeze? John explains why you need to meet challenging situations head on to achieve positive outcomes and personal growth. Listen in to find out how!   KEY TAKEAWAYS In life and in business we come across situations that make us feel uncomfortable, where it doesn’t feel nice and our response is to choose between fight, flight or freeze. Depending on the severity of the situation some may choose to fight and deal with the situation but the majority will choose to do nothing. In business, there are lots of ongoing circumstances and many micro situations throughout a day that may be uncomfortable but require a response. How many times have you avoided a situation then felt inadequate afterwards? If you face up to an event or interaction you will feel better about yourself and be in a better position to deal with the same type of situation next time. When we have dealt with a particular situation previously it becomes less stressful but will remain uncomfortable due to the nature of the interaction. You must always look for the positives in every situation. Doing the same thing over and over again will create myelin and the decisions you make in both hard and soft tasks will be faster. We need to be agile in both business and life so when a curve ball is thrown our way we are able to react and adapt putting a plan in place to overcome and deal with the situation. You are not alone in not wanting to push yourself out of your comfort zone but if you want to move your business to the next level you’ve got to push yourself It’s about progressing yourself and seeking growth in all areas of your life both personal and professional.   BEST MOMENTS ‘Even though I was uncomfortable I got comfortable and was able to deal with the curveball’ ‘They’ve built those skills through repeatedly being in and dealing with a specific situation’ ‘It’s worth going through the pain to get to the end result’ ‘Personal growth and achieving goals is a massive motivator for successful people’   VALUABLE RESOURCES Leadership Revealed Podcast The Talent Code book by Daniel Coyle   ABOUT THE HOST John Paul is a serial entrepreneur in various sectors. ‘Make sure you are holding yourself accountable, this is only possible if you have structure and planning in place’ In this episode, John provides us with everything we need to have in place to be a successful business this year. Listen to find out what you really need.   KEY TAKEAWAYS Planning is the most critical part of any business if you don’t plan then you are planning to fail. Everything you have in place in your business requires a plan Analysis of what’s going on in your business is key. To understand your business, you need to know how and what is working. People or Process?

‘A process is a system of working a way of improving your business, making it more efficient and more effective’ Having great systems is only part of the solution, listen in to hear about how to bring both processes and people together in your business so that in unison these elements are effectively driving your business forward.   KEY TAKEAWAYS What are the advantages of having good staff working in your business? They improve the current systems and can adapt, developing new skills that in turn make a business more efficient and effective. Having good colleagues is very important to staff and team motivation. What do processes bring? A good process will deliver consistency which will promote repeat business. Being able to run a company using the most efficient systems and processes delivers cost-effective solutions. When you have good people without good processes it is possible to operate for a period because people will find ways around poor processes. However, over time it will become demotivating for staff because people need routine, a structure they can follow every day to ensure consistency and success. Good processes and poor people will lead to issues. People who are not trained to follow processes correctly will result in variable outcomes leading to demotivation of the workforce. A business requires both good people and good processes, they’ve got to work in unison to achieve success.   BEST MOMENTS ‘I’m not going to get off this fence it has to be a combination of both’ ‘Without structure people form bad habits, procedures help form positive habits’ ‘Processes can remove you from opportunities to interact with the customer’ ‘In business, you have to be pragmatic and on occasion flexible to secure business’ ‘It’s all about the people, helping them to find the problem and a solution’ ‘If it doesn’t make a profit you can’t add value’   ABOUT THE HOST John Paul is a serial entrepreneur in various sectors. What is The ONE Thing You Need to Succeed?

‘You can only get better by following a routine and being focused’ Listen in to this episode to find out how to be focused and create the routines that will take your business from good to great. John explains how the key elements of focus and routine can make all the difference and why you should be implementing them now.   KEY TAKEAWAYS Having a focus is the ability to make just one thing the centre of your attention and give it your very best. You do nothing else and there must be no distractions. Having focus is what makes you successful and you can only get better by following a routine and being focused. If you do something on a routine basis you will be successful at that thing. Routines provide predictability, we know what to expect. When something different happens, something unpredictable we may respond with a fight, flight or freeze response. If you know what the smaller tasks and goals are on the journey towards achieving your ultimate goal then within the routine it is possible to review and adapt as you move forward. It could be the difference between succeeding or failing in your business. Whatever you do, whatever is important to you, if you do the actions repeatedly over and over again to a high standard then you will achieve your goals. Being good at something is not that difficult, completing the actions required to make you good at something is difficult and requires focus. The difference between the bad, the good and the great is the bad don’t do it all, the good do it sporadically and the great will do it all the time. It’s the things that the majority of people won’t be prepared to do, the things that you will do that will make the difference between being good to being great.   BEST MOMENTS ‘The little hard yards make all the difference’ ‘If you want to be a good estate agent a good letting agents just do the little basic  things very well if you want to be a great estate agent do the little things well and do them every day’ ‘Do the little things every single day’ ‘Creating schedules should be part of your routine’ ‘Routines simplify life making us feel more comfortable’ ABOUT THE HOST John Paul is a serial entrepreneur in various sectors. Do You Plan to Fail?

‘The majority of successful people have a single plan and they are devoted to achieving their vision, but they are able to pivot and adapt’   Having a Plan B and possibly a Plan C are vital elements for business and most crucially whatever the size of your business you need to listen to your customers and understand the environment you are operating in. In this episode, John explores the role of planning in a successful business and shares what can happen if you don’t, listen in to find out more.   KEY TAKEAWAYS By not having a plan you are inadvertently planning to fail. Successful people have a vision and they know on a day to day basis what they are doing to work towards achieving their goals. These businesses have a plan B and a plan C to help deal with the unexpected. The mark of a good business is that it can adapt and change in the face of regulatory changes. There are examples of major businesses who have pivoted and changed to continue to be successful these include Shell who began as an antique business. Yahoo is a company which had several opportunities to change but didn’t adapt. They failed to understand that improving the customer service was vital and in doing so aided the growth and success of Google and their own decline. You choose to adapt and change your company based on changes in your customers wants and desires and the environment. It's critically important to listen to your customers at all times if you don’t you risk your competitors being the business who are listening and providing what the customer wants. The environment may be something out of your control such as new legislation, regulation or compliance It's important to talk to your customers to understand what they want and to look at the environment you are in and to try and predict the future. Taking an overview of the estate agency and letting business environment clearly shows the direction it is moving in is towards with more compliance and more regulation so it is advisable to plan for this now making it possible to adapt when it happens. Being vigilant about possible changes enables you to be in a position where you can take advantage of opportunities that present during periods of change.   BEST MOMENTS ‘It’s the ostrich, sticking your head in the sand and not facing what you need to do’ ‘The arrogance of the management of that company’ ‘ If you don’t look after your customers and service their wants and needs then your competitors will’ ‘These opportunities are going to be all around’ ‘Have a 360 vision to understand where you are and where you want to be’ ‘Businesses have pivoted and re-invented themselves to make a comeback’   VALUABLE RESOURCES Where Nokia went Wrong article by James Surowiecki The Decline of Yahoo in its own Words article by Walter Frick       ABOUT THE HOST John Paul is a serial entrepreneur in various sectors.
