In today’s all new Comics of Bond, JBR episode, Jack Lugo and Dan Gale interview legendary comicbook artist and writer Mike Grell. From 1989-1990 Mike Grell created arguably the best Bond comic original series, Permission To Die. The 3 issue comic reads very much like a lost Bond film delivering an unparalleled reading experience that still holds up very nicely to this very day. Set during the Cold War, Permission To Die finds Bond tasked with rescuing the niece of a scientist with launching technology that can seemingly help serve the interests of western governments. When the scientist turns out to be a megalomaniac hellbent on destruction for what he believes to be the betterment of mankind, Bond must do everything he can to stop him. Grell also wrote and drew the comic book adaptation of Licence To Kill in 1989. Jack and Dan take a deep dive into the story behind Mike Grell’s work on his Bond comics finding out about Grell’s influences, his life, and career. Permission To Die contains a number of references and homages Bond fans will deeply appreciate including Bond in a kilt during the pre-titles action sequence as well as the inclusion of Kerim Bey’s daughter as a key character in one of the issues. You don’t want to miss this Comics of Bond JBR episode!

Sir Sean Connery sadly passed away aged 90 on October 31st, 2020. The Many Lives of James Bond offers the largest ever collection of original interviews with actors who have played Bond in different media, as well as in-depth interviews with many of the diverse artists who have contributed their talents to the making of James Bond movies, television shows, novels, radio dramas, comic books, and video games. These wide-ranging interviews provide a behind-the-scenes look at the artists' goals, the challenges they faced, and how they met them This book is also the first to examine the Bond character through eyes of the artists who interpret him. As the author talked with these creative people, a through line emerged. It involves a series of related fundamental questions about Bond that artists must reckon with when interpreting Bond. Who is James Bond and what, if anything, beyond successfully completing a mission does he really want? What drives him? Why did he become an agent? What is the nature of his inner-life? Would he be capable of a satisfying life away from high-octane adventure and danger? These questions challenge and inspire the creators to pull back the curtain on a deliberately opaque figure in an attempt to explore and analyze Bond's interior life and thought processes, and how the Bond actors have interpreted the role.

A tweet posted to the official James Bond account reads: "Michael G Wilson, Barbara Broccoli and Daniel Craig announced today that Bond 25 will begin filming at Pinewood Studios on 4 March 2019 under the helm of director Cary Joji Fukunaga, with a worldwide release date of 14 February 2020." "We are delighted to be working with Cary. His versatility and innovation make him an excellent choice for our next James Bond adventure." said Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli.

Sir Roger Moore sadly passed away aged 89 on May 23rd 2017. As the ever popular, ever charming "People's Bond" we decided to suspend our regular programming and instead put together a tribute to the great man.   Over the next 4+ hours we go through the messages of sympathy from the world of Bond from Sean Connery to Daniel Craig. We talk to Maddy Smith, Roger's very first Bond girl. We're joined by author of Catching Bullets: Memoirs of a Bond fan, Mark O'Connell, and we're even joined by the great man himself as we revisit our interview with Sir Roger from 2016.   We also wanted to give a voice to Sir Roger's fans around the world, so we put out a request for messages from the JBR listeners. There’s no doubt Ben Whishaw has huge shoes to fill after Desmond Llewelyn’s final appearance in 1999, so does he pull it off?    With key scenes inside Q’s lab and played out in the field, Q gets a lot more screen time than usual in SPECTRE. So, let’s find out if he has what it takes to carry the Q torch.   

Day 4 of 30 Days of SPECTRE!   Ralph Fiennes, Ralph Fiennes, Ralph Fiennes! Is there any finer actor for Judi Dench to pass the M torch to than that? We wager that there is not.    We had a brief glimpse at the end of Skyfall but SPECTRE is the first time we get to see the new M in all his glory.    We talk through all the M scenes from SPECTRE, ponder on the Gareth Mallory character in comparison to Sir Miles, as played by Bernard Lee and speculate on just how long we might see Ralph dishing out 007’s orders.

This week we're joined by an unsung hero of Bond, Nikki Van Der Zyl. As a voice artist she provided the voice of some of the most iconic Bond girls of all time from Honey Ryder (...and yes that is Nikki singing Underneath the Mango Tree), to Shirley Eaton's Jill Masterson,  and Thunderball's Domino. The list doesn't end there either. Nikki was involved in a total of 10 Bond films with Moonraker being her last.  This is another behind the scenes interview with someone who was there from the very beginning of the cinematic Bond. You'll hear tales of hanging out on set with Gert Frobe during the filming of Goldfinger, you'll hear how she revoiced the entire female cast of Dr. No (with the exception of Moneypenny and Miss Taro) and maybe...just maybe you might even hear Nikki performing a line of Bond girl dialogue too.  Enjoy :-)

Our inaugural episode of James Bond Radio turned out so well and received such a great response, we thought we'd release a new episode each week for a month, before switching to our regular schedule of twice monthly.  In today's episode we're talking all about Bond 24 and beyond. We talk about what we want to see from Daniel's next outing, what we don't want to see and we revisit that age old question of who might pick up the PPK after Daniel ends his run.
