Strong & Able, Get Your Elbows Off The Table - Featuring Gail & Nancy Silverton

We are ending our first season of Hey Sis, Eat This on the most delicious note! A spectacular interview with one of our long-time idols, James Beard Award-winning Chef, Nancy Silverton and her magical sister, Gail Silverton. Only one and half years apart to the day, these extremely close sisters open up about their incredible mother, Momma Doris, who was a genuine powerhouse of a woman. When most mothers of her generation were expected to stay home cleaning and cooking, Doris Silverton was shattering the glass ceiling as a successful female television writer in Hollywood. Alongside of her career, Doris was a remarkable wife, supportive mother, and one who never skipped on setting a proper dinner table! While Nancy wasn’t a huge admirer of Momma Doris’s cooking, she admits that the family dinner table, which she still owns, was a very big part of her childhood. As far as Momma Doris’ culinary style was concerned, the sisters describe it as eclectic and ahead of her time. Beef bourguignon, chili Colorado, spanakopita and Caesar salad were in the regular rotation. Gail loved her mother’s brisket and Paprika chicken, two dishes she continues to make today, while Nancy preferred to take matters into her own hands with fried bologna and “whim” outings to Denny’s whenever on a family road trip. With only a year and a half apart, these sisters were always close. So close, that they often shared friends and we even discover they dated some of the same guys! Yes... that is plural! Except for Nancy’s one run in with the law and Gail “experimenting’, the Silverton sisters were pretty well behaved in adolescence. Momma Doris was not one to discipline, instead she empowered them by creating a safe space to live and learn from their mistakes. Her democratic parenting style empowered them to be independent, responsible women who never had to second guess themselves in their professional careers. Doris, who passed away in 2001, left a beautiful legacy with her two extraordinary daughters. An inspiration to each of them, Nancy and Gail have made indelible contributions to the Los Angeles community through food and education. With all that these sisters have accomplished professionally, philanthropically and as mothers, Momma Doris would be so proud! Nancy's New York Times Bestselling cookbook, “The Cookie That Changed My Life” is available wherever books are sold. You can find the recipe for Peanut Butter cookie that changed her life on our website!  Enjoy this season finale, but please keep your elbows off the table. Look for our next episode in 2024 as we kick off Season 2 of Hey Sis, Eat This!

A Couple Of Very Fine Wines

We are back at it again, taking a trip down memory lane with two sisters from our childhood, Haley and Annabelle Wine. These two much younger siblings were always around during our holidays, graduations, proms and countless meals in between. Their Mother, Momma Kathy was BFF’s with Momma Ashley and we learn that Momma Ashley was a mentor mom to Kathy teaching her Jedi mom skills such as how to detect if your child has been drinking.   Haley and Annabelle have fond memories of the Ashley sisters and admit that they idolized us when they were little. Whitney, who babysat these girls practically every weekend during her middle school years, has a vivid memory of Momma Kathy’s babysitting binder filled with numbers and protocols in case of emergency. Haley and Annabelle’s memories, however, are of "Whitney being the coolest," riding around in her black Jeep and going to the tanning salon.   Thank goodness these girls had the fabulous Momma Kathy to keep them on the right track. Haley and Annabelle lovingly describe Momma Kathy as an incredible mother who knows her way around the kitchen, getting many of her beloved recipes from her mother in law, Momma Dot. Kathy had dinner on the table every night when the girls were growing up and now that the sisters are older, she hosts both girls families every Sunday night.   Kathy was the kind of mom that welcomed the girls friends into their home with open arms and no judgment. She was always volunteering at the school, never missed a game, and continues to show up for all of it, once again, as a doting grandmother. So put your buns in the bathroom and fill your Ozarka bottle with vodka because you’re about to learn a lot about these delicious fine Wines!

Sisters Dish: Gabbing & Gobbling

On this very food heavy episode of Sisters Dish, hot off Thanksgiving, we have our all time favorite guest and resident chef, Momma Ashley join us for a holiday recap of recipes and kitchen tips. From traditional Ashley family favorites to a few new experimental dishes, we dive deep into ingredients, hacks and kitchen conundrums from the biggest meal of the year.   In Dallas, it was a wild and crazy Thanksgiving with kids running a muck on Viewside Drive, further confirming Lance and Whitney’s choice to not have children. Courtney on the other hand, still recovering from a Pecan Pie kitchen conundrum from last year decided to order her desserts from Winston Pies, getting out of cooking all together. The night before Thanksgiving, Whitney spent the evening with our dear friend and designer Jessica Maros, creating a gorgeous table scape for the big dinner. This fun filled night of florals and tequila resulted in a kitchen conundrum with Whitney leaving the frozen onions for the fam fave Onions Almondine on the counter over night. Whitney took a page from Momma Ashley's book with an “It'll be fine” and chose to go ahead and serve them anyway.   Down at Momma Ashley’s house, Momma was in charge of making the family favorite, Cornbread Dressin’. However when it tasted a little off, she started fearing that she was losing her taste buds just like her grandmother did around her age. All in all, the dinner was a hit including the usually forbidden Thanksgiving side of mashed potatoes. This uncouth tradition, according to Momma Ashley, lead to a deeper discussion about different methods of cooking mashed potatoes. A conversation where even Momma Ashley might have to admit that her mashed potatoes have been beat!   To round out the holiday weekend, Courtney’s daughters perform a pole dancing competition for her which ends with a very angry father.   We have so much to be grateful for this year including anyone and everyone who listened to this podcast!   Thanks Y'all!

Horsin' Around With Wendy

On this Thanksgiving we are so thankful and honored to have the opportunity to sit down with this kind soul of a woman who has one of the biggest hearts of anyone we know. Wendy Holsapple is true Dallas royalty and joins us today to talk about her incredibly interesting mother and father, her equestrian background and her career as the queen of the King’s X, a famous watering hole in North Dallas that’s been around since 1977. Wendy opens up about her charmed childhood growing up in Dallas, riding horses in her front yard and having a momma who was a New York Rockette. Wendy recalls her mother, Faye Ola as a great cook, growing up on homemade spaghetti and meatballs and chicken and dumplings. Momma Faye was an entertainer at heart. Whether it was doing Rockette style high kicks around the house to get a laugh out of her kids or throwing a dinner party on the roof of her house to do something different, she loved for everyone around her to have a good time. Just like her warm and kind mother, Wendy is always there to lend a listening ear to her customers at the King’s X, spreading genuine love to everyone who comes to know her. She goes on to spill all the tea on the infamous bar from the most rewarding and hardest part of the job to the craziest thing she's ever witnessed at the bar which happens to include Whitney!  Wendy's true passion is her art, Wire Wonders by Wendy using rocks, vessels, glass, beads and even horseshoes.  We are so blessed to know Wendy and to have her as a friend. Don’t Tell Mom The Money Is Gone!

This week the sisters are joined by one of Whitney’s BFF from childhood, Natalie Huber and her three sisters, Elizabeth, Tiffany, and Ali. The thick as thieves Huber sisters delve into their close-knit relationship shaped by their hardworking, loyal and loving mom, Lynn. A nurse with a demanding schedule, Momma Lynn instilled independence, a strong work ethic, and a reliance on family in her five children. The sisters share hilarious stories from childhood, highlighting moments of mischief and camaraderie. A self proclaimed “not the warm and fuzzy type", Lynn provided plenty of love when it came to her cooking. From her signature "Ham and Rice” dish, a family favorite by all, to her dreaded beef stroganoff, Lynn made family dinners a priority despite her busy schedule. The sisters reminisce about chaotic family road trips curated by Momma Lynn’s playlists featuring songs by Carly Simon, Dion Warwick, and Olivia Newton John. From MOD (Make Own Dinner) nights to recruiting friends to share in the household chores on weekends, these siblings were savvy beyond their years. The sisters recall an infamous incident when their parents entrusted the girls to stay home alone for two weeks, resulting in a stolen sum of money and their creative attempts to raise funds before their mom's return. The essence of the Huber sisters' upbringing was filled with love, laughter, independence, and memorable escapades that contributed to their enduring closeness.

Besties, Brides & Boobies

We’re throwing another party this week on Hey Sis, Eat This to celebrate the most special of all birthday girls, our best friend since childhood, Elle Warren. Elle sits down with us to talk about her world famous bridal salon, Warren Barron Bridal, her husband's world famous BBQ restaurant, Sonny Bryan's and the world famous chef, Dean Fearing who created her wedding menu.   Since food has always played such an integral role in our 40 plus year relationship with Elle it only seemed fitting to take a trip down memory lane to discuss her lively childhood dinner table, favorite family recipes and of course her incredible Momma Jeannie!   While Jeannie had to keep the weekly meals on the blander side because of her husband, Charlie’s heart condition, we learn that the spice was served alongside the meal in the form of conversation. With two attorney parents, there was never a lack of flavor or variety when it came time to debate the nightly topic of discussion around the table.   From Tex Mex induced vomit fests to topless nights in our 20’s, there is no shortage of LOL stories as these 3 besties cover only a tiny slice of their rich and tasty history together. Elle is truly our sister and we couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome this hilarious woman to the podcast this week in celebration of her birthday and our beautiful friendship. Happy Birthday, Elle, LOVE YOU, LOVE YOUR SHOW!!!

A Bone-Appetite Halloween

This week on Hey Sis, Eat This the sisters welcome Momma Ashley to recap all the Halloween food and festivities! The party gets started in Dallas when Whitney transforms last week’s geriatric party “Mr. Six” costume into the Phantom of the Opera, while Courtney rides Whitney's costume coat tails with her old Björk swan costume. Whitney and Momma Ashley boast the hottest trick-or-treating spot in Dallas right on Viewside Drive where children come far and wide to see Whitney and Lance's incredible decorations and parents come to sip libations from neighbor Seldon and David’s illegal front yard bar featuring Bourbon Apple Cider Cocktails.  In LA, Courtney is recovering from her epic 70+ person Halloween bash but thanks to G-sheets and a timeline it went off without a hitch. Going against Whitney’s advice to keep it simple, Courtney makes enough food to feed an army. From beef and bison chili, and dill pickle dip to her famous brisket tacos there was something for everyone. However, in true LA fashion, her cornbread sat untouched since no one freaking eats carbs in this state!  Then we catch up with Momma Ashley to hear all about her thriving catering business that’s keeping her busier than ever. It wouldn’t be a Sisters Dish episode without a few kitchen conundrums! Momma Ashley almost burns her buns when her oven locks up before a catering gig. Courtney’s kitchen is saved with a Momma’s tip on how to get the dead hooker smell out of your house after cooking seafood. You won’t want to miss hearing about our favorite costumes, recipes and stories where we tell you how to eat, drink and be scary!!

Sweet Corn, Slow Cooker and the Side Queen

It’s our first ever 3 brother interview with Alex, Kyle and Jordan Rasch! Growing up in the very small town of Mascoutah, Illinois, population 7,500, these brothers spent their time between their grandparents farm and their childhood home, one stoplight away. Food played a huge role in the upbringing of these mid-western brothers and their extended family, where a 30 plus person Sunday supper cooked by their blind grandma took place every weekend at the family farm, come rain, snow or shine.   While the brothers claim their mom, Cindy, AKA Chi Chi or just Cheech, brings the flavor with her personality over her food, she was certainly no stranger to cooking. We dive into the world of Momma Chi Chi who is one of seven siblings raised on a crop farm that she actually lives on today. Chi Chi’s boys have fond memories of shucking and preserving sweet corn with their cousins to store up for the winter but when Summer came around, meals shifted to crockpots in the camper because Chi Chi much preferred to be out on the lake as opposed to in the kitchen.   Camping at the lake with her sons was a favorite past time for Momma Chi Chi who strung up her jalapeno lights, made friends with everyone at the site, always offered to bring the side dishes to the picnics and was in no rush to get the boys home when school was starting.   But the greatest culinary memory for the brothers is the infamous Amann family cookbook, "From Our Home To Yours" that was created, curated and bound together in one big assembly line by Momma Chi Chi and her 6 siblings. Filled with family recipes and cocktails, the boys admit that this family cookbook is a true heirloom that they all cherish and actually cook from on the regular.   Momma Chi Chi is one momma that deserves to be celebrated in true Hey Sis fashion! Her lively personality, dedication to family, fun and adventure created a wonderful childhood for her three boys who love and adore her completely. So crack open a Zima because Chi Chi would want you to and enjoy the hilarious tales from the Rasch brothers.

Causing trouble as she always does, Whitney almost gets arrested at a Beastie Boys cover band concert for being a ‘lil idiot.   Then it’s time to duck and cover! The Neitzel sibs are in the house to celebrate Momma Torry AKA “Torry the Tornado! There was never a dull moment with this whimsical momma who was always up for an adventure. Whitney’s high school girl crush, Elyse, joins the sisters with her two brothers, Michael and Chef Johnathan to reminisce about favorite dishes, family vacations and of course, Halloween. The Marvelous Miss Marjorie!

It’s another sugary sweet episode of Hey Sis, Eat This, with Tiff’s Treats founder Tiffany Taylor and her news producer and breast cancer thriver sister, Melinda. Courtney and Whitney talk to these ladies not only about their “brilliant” mother, Marjorie but the very long history of familial connections these two sets of sisters share.   Tiffany and Melinda, who have no recollection of ever meeting Courtney and Whitney are surprised to learn that their families share a past of food, family and funny stories that started way before any of them were born. When Court states that Momma Ashley and Margie were in Sunday school together and Whit chimes in that both of their maternal grandparents met in the 40’s at church and became long time friends. Melinda dips into the past even further revealing that the grandparents were originally a part of a singles club that turned into a couples club after several singles became couples. They even had a name for their club and were rumored to really like to party! The Ashley's then disclose that during the 70’s Momma Margie attended Momma Ashley’s wedding and both sets of sisters fathers had a long career in advertising together.   We then dive into the incredible Marjorie who Tiffany vehemently insisted we not call “Momma Marjorie,” as she would think that moniker would make her sound old. Described by the girls as having a fun spirit and youthful heart, Marjorie is the mom who loves roller coasters and nature hikes and has been known to pull off a prank every now and again. She was a dedicated elementary school teacher who left a lasting impression on so many of her students, all while raising three children and making sure a delicious dinner was on the table every night.   The Taylor sisters recall memorable road trips strategically mapped out by Margie with unique road snacks. When asked by the girls what a particular 4 letter word meant, Margie was no holds barred with a straight shootin sex talk.   In line with her fun spirit, Marjorie relished in Halloween going at lengths to make elaborate costumes which the girls have recycled for their kids today. Her creativity, love and dedication to family have had an indelible impact on the lives of her three children. It's quite evident with Tiffany who founded Tiff’s Treats, a chain of cookie stores using Marjorie's recipes which now has over 90 locations Nationwide and growing.   You will not want to miss hearing about this super special Momma and the hard work she put into creating beautiful memories for her family and friends.

While Whitney is still away on her much deserved Tomato Girl Fall, Italian vacation, Courtney is in LA feeling like a limb is missing.  Since she needs her other half to make the magic happen, the sisters preemptively put together the highly anticipated 2 part series, Teenage Idiots - Party Animals & Driving Edition. In this special compilation of Reckless Driving, you will learn that the majority of our sibling guests were also once dangers to society behind the wheel. Good Lord! Teenage Idiots: Party Animals

While Whitney is away on her Italian vacation eating, drinking and having a party, we figured there was no better time to roll out our highly anticipated 2 part series, Teenage Idiots: Party Animals & Reckless Driving   In this hilarious Party Animals compilation, various guests recall some of their not so smartest moments as teenagers when they decided to party like it was 1999! It actually might have been 1999 or ‘89 or even 2009 in some of these stories but no matter the decade, these teenage idiots prove time and time again that the prefrontal cortex is still WAY under developed during these precious formative years!   Now, as thriving adults, (thank God) they sit down with the sisters to discuss the idiotic ways in which they partied their way through high school and the even more idiotic ways they tried to cover their tracks.   You know you were once a “Lil’ idiot” so pop open a wine cooler, Zima, or pour yourself a glass of Boones and join us as we take this trip down memory lane to the days of dumb.   Don’t forget to tune in next week for part 2 of Teenage Idiots: Reckless Driving!     *We want to hear about your teenage idiot days! Pageants, Pepper, & Prime Rib with Ashley Blaine Featherson-Jenkins and Nkena Lawrence

Today we are joined by a fellow podcaster Ashley Blaine Featherson-Jenkins and her sister Nkena Lawrence. Ashley is the host of Oprah's OWN network podcast, Trials to Triumphs and the star of the Netflix series Dear White People. This dynamic sister duo opens up about their strong independent Momma Cynthia and how she raised them to be hard working women and always strive to be their best.   Cynthia faced much adversity as a black woman growing up in the South in the 60’s. However, this woman’s ambition and tenacity never wavered which we also discover was passed down to her daughters. Cynthia graduated from Howard University where Ashley later followed in her mother’s footsteps. Having a demanding career at IBM meant Cynthia traveled a lot which also kept her out of the kitchen. Regardless, married to a man who was not afraid of putting on an apron, the Featherson family sat down to a home cooked meal every night of the week.   While Nkena takes after her mother with very little interest in cooking, Ashley is a self proclaimed “foodie” who learned by watching her father cook while sitting on a stool in the kitchen. While she has her favorite family recipes like Chicken Divan and Prime Rib, she’s also smart like her mother and knows when to outsource for special occasions from Lawry’s and Gelson's market!   The sisters recall memories of an always over the top Christmas. But the family celebration didn’t stop on Christmas because Momma Cynthia's Birthday is on the 26th!!   It wouldn’t be a Hey Sis sibling episode without a story of a childhood pet or two. Find out how Pepper the pooch’s fate was sealed after a night of ordering in pizza. We can't pass up a good teenager on the road story but Ashley might not be fully at blame for her reoccurring accidents.   There is no doubt you will love these charming, charismatic former pageant queens and their tough as nails and sometimes mysterious Momma Cynthia!

Let Them Eat Cake with Susan Sarich

If you are in need of some inspiring girl power, tune into this week's episode of Sisters Dish!  Susan(Susie) Sarich founder and CEO of Susie Cakes joins the sisters to share the sweetness and the struggles of building her famous chain of bakeries. Recently named by Forbes Magazine as one of 50 over 50, Susan has built a dessert empire which now spans 26 locations and growing.  Susan shares with us how her two grandmothers, Mildred and Madeline who lived across the alley from each other, welcomed Susan home from school with homemade desserts and lots of love. It was around their tables eating sweets where Susan learned morals and values and realized the true power that table talk could have on a person’s life. From taking guests coats to drink orders at her Grandma’s house, hospitality has always come naturally to Susan. Born with a passion for service and a mind for business, Susan honed in her born talent at Cornell University where she majored in hospitality. She shares with us her experience as a woman in this male dominated industry and how at the time she was coming up, women had very few opportunities in leadership roles. In addition to the industry’s inequities, the demands of a career in hospitality made it virtually impossible for any woman to have a balanced family life. As Susan pondered the challenges she saw in her professional life, she also began to imagine a different type of working environment. In 2006 Susan Sarich disrupted the industry with her female focused, feel good bakery, Susie Cakes. With one of the core values of the business being “We Build More Than Cakes, We Build Careers,” Susie Cakes has created a team that is 85% female and growing! After most people told her her idea would never work, she defied them all and proved that a little nostalgia, a pinch of business sense, a lot of faith in yourself and one really big heart was the perfect recipe for a very successful business. 18 years and 26 locations later, Susan continues to bring “old fashioned Americana desserts'' to people throughout the country while lifting up and creating opportunities for women along the way! And that’s just the icing on the cake!

Back to School with Momma June & Mr. Doughboy featuring Sophie & Brandon Pierce

Sophie and Brandon Pierce are on Hey Sis, Eat This, this week, representing 2 out of the 5 siblings who hale from Verplanck, New York. These two artistic siblings sit down to dish on how the beautiful and very patient Momma June managed a household with 4 boys and 1 girl on top of being a kindergarten teacher. The siblings recall how Momma June was the kind of mom who welcomed her kids home from school with warm chocolate chip cookies, and took holidays to the extreme! Whether it was heart shaped meatloafs on Valentines Day or pistachio cakes on St. Patrick's Day, this Momma loved to indulge her family with good food and lots of love!    During family vacations at the Jersey Shore, the cooking didn’t stop. Summer time was filled with meals of lobsters and clams, a tradition that the siblings carry on today with their own families.   From home perms to bowl cuts, Momma June was all about efficiency when it came to her 5 kids hairstyles. After one too many uneven bowl cuts using sewing scissors and Tupperware, the Pierce brothers took beauty into their own hands by meticulously cutting each others hair for the rest of their childhood and teen years. The tables have now turned and we learn that Momma June has also taken beauty into her own hands at this stage of her life. She’s traded in baking cookies for focusing on makeup and self care and we say to Momma June, you go girl! You’ve earned it!!   Then much to our surprise and appreciation, we welcome a 3rd guest to the podcast, Mr. Doughboy. Sophie presents the us with her first ever homemade sourdough bread which also happens to be a total panty dropper!   There is so much family love and nostalgia in this episode, it makes you want to curl up with a casserole and watch a hallmark movie.

Sisters Dish: Queso & Courvoisier

During this first summer of the Hey Sis, Eat This podcast, there’s been a lot of back and forth traveling between Los Angeles and Dallas! The sisters are rounding out summer with their all time favorite gals, Reagan and Vivi, (Courtney’s daughters) and of course the famous Momma Ashley!   After 8 recordings in 6 days, the sisters sit down with Momma Ashley over Dirty Sis Martinis to giggle about some of their own shenanigans as teenage idiots and Courtney’s unhealthy obsession with Queso. The girls once again rag on their mom for hoarding 35 year old bottles of alcohol while she once again blames just about everything on her ex-husband. When everyone fesses up about their own infatuation with Tex-Mex, they’re all in agreement that Big D (Momma Ashley’s husband) is the “Queso Blocker” of the family but it doesn’t change how much we love him! Everyone can relate to Courtney getting triggered by the constant back and forth debate in her house over what to order in while Whitney suggests a solution through her favorite meal planning app, PlateJoy.   Not wanting to leave her girls behind, Courtney brought them to Dallas to visit family while she and Whitney worked. Much to the littles chagrin, mean “Mamu,” (Whitney’s auntie nickname) signed the girls up to take a manners class at a local Dallas specialty food store and they come on to tell us all about it! The Lil Sis' enlighten us on shaking hands properly, setting a table with batman and how to eat soup. They also share with us the highlight of their trip, making homemade pasta and ice cream with Lovey, AKA, Momma Ashley.   The laughter is loud and the banter is riotous on this rare uncandid episode of Hey Sis, Eat This!

Beef & Botanicals with Simone Moran

Today on Sister’s Dish, we are all beefed out after several days of cooking together in the Los Angeles Hey Sis, Eat This "test kitchen". While there were plenty of “amazings” and “panty droppers,” to note, it wouldn’t be cooking with the Ashley sisters, if they’re weren’t a few kitchen conundrums along the way.    We also have the honor of sitting down with the incredibly inspiring and BADASS lady, Simone Moran. Simone is a multi talented herbalist, acupuncturist, creator and CEO of Plant Botanicals, a farm to bottle, sustainable line of spirits that is made up, in her words, of only “the good shit!”   Simone shares with us how a tragic accident in her 20’s involving a pressure cooker put her in the ICU for a month and lead her down a very scary path of self destruction and opioid dependency. We also hear how she heroically transformed this life altering event into an obsession with health and wellness, a career in herbal medicine which ultimately led her to starting her impressive beverage company, Plant Botanicals.   While traveling the world learning everything she could about plant medicine and herbal remedies, she stumbled across a very unique alcohol in Asia that was cleaner and tastier than anything she had ever experienced before. When she discovered that there were no hangovers involved, she knew she had found something special and needed to share it with others.   Like us, we know you will be touched by Simone’s human transformation from pain and helplessness to a deep passion for helping herself and others who have had similar experiences.   Simone’s dedication to wellness is at the heart of everything she does from her line of herbal medicines and acupuncture treatments to her delicious Plant Botanical seltzers and vodka. This woman is a force and we’re thrilled to introduce her to you!   To learn more follow Plant Botanicals @plantsloveyou or to find out where to purchase visit www.plantlovesyou.com

Today on HSET, we interview our much younger cousins, Katie and Sam Williams who share with us what it was like growing up with a mom who takes motherhood to the next level, even if it means breaking the law!!   From taking Katie and her friends to get fake ID’s in high school, to customized hot breakfasts 5 days a week, there was nothing Momma Jan wouldn’t do for her kids!   With the exception of Friday through Sunday when her “kitchen was closed,” Jan’s sacred dinner table began with a prayer and a home cooked meal. Over her famous chili biscuits, delicious flour tortilla enchiladas or the occasional dreaded tilapia, Jan made sure to connect with her family by asking her kids a comprehensive list of questions she’d think of during the day.   A frequent entertainer of guests in their home, the kids reveal some of Jan’s dirty little entertaining secrets. We also learn that after one wild party, Momma Jan and her sister channel their drill team days in the living room with some sisterly competition.   Her passion IS her family and we hear that in every story these siblings tell. Not afraid to call it like it was or forgive Sam after a night of debauchery, Jan guided these two with love, compassion, humor and understanding. In the words of Sam, “She will always go to bat for you even when you might not need someone to go to bat for you!” and in the words of Katie, “If I could be half as good of a mom as my mom was to me, I will have succeeded in everything I was called to do on this earth.” Now that’s one helluva Momma!

Sisters Dish: Happy Days Are Here Again!

Happy Days are here again on this LOL episode with actor, comedian and world famous impressionist, Jim Meskiman! The sisters were introduced to Jim when he was a budding actor in 1984. Jim was the star of their father, Glenn’s award winning ad campaign for a Texas grocery store chain. Starring in over 100 commercials, this campaign launched Jim’s long and robust career as an actor, improviser and voice over artist.   On this episode, the girls reunite Glenn and Jim after 30 years where they recall old days on the set, laughing about the illegal audition and Jim's mandatory readings of the grocery store's "weekly specials!"   But it wouldn’t be a Hey Sis episode if we didn’t talk about mommas and Jim’s momma happens to be one of the most infamous mommas of all times! Momma Marion Ross, also known to America as Marion Cunningham from Happy Days, was a single mom who worked tirelessly raising her two children while also pursuing her lifelong dream of being an actor. We learned that times were tight before the years of Happy Days and luxuries such as hairdryers were a hard no in Marion’s home. While she was known to the world as the quintessential 50’s stay at home mom, Jim describes the real Marion as a driven, independent woman who ditched her apron when it was a wrap. Jim recalls family dinners of green beans in a can but holds no resentment as she always provided food, fun and plenty of pranks.   Then we have the honor of hearing some of Jim’s uncanny impressions of famous actors as he reads off a list of famous Momma Ashley sayings. If you’ve ever been curious to hear Arnold Schwarzenegger imitate Momma Ashley then tune in now!!

Rattle Snakes, Ristoranti, and Rolling Dough

The Sisters are back from their Summer vacations and are joined by Momma Ashley to recap their travels. Whitney ate her weight in Lobster rolls in the Hamptons and filled her face with Naples style pizza in NYC at L'Antica Pizzeria Da Michele with Steve Sink! The pizza did not stop there as Whitney and Lance road tripped with their Ooni pizza oven to Del Norte, CO where they cooked up pies for 25 people at the Askew family ranch. According to Whitney it would not be a proper Summer ranch trip without a naked photo shoot in the mountains and a rattle snake encounter.   Crazy Courtney Crostini was scouring Italy for pasta and gelato but fell short on finding the signature Dirty Sis Martini. She managed to escape getting Covid from Jason but not from sleeping in the crack of the bed between her two daughters. Courtney states for the record that Venice is a tourist trap after a local food tour from a Vegan which ended at a restaurant with penis shaped bottles filled with limoncello. She found the crostini of her dreams in Florence and managed to conquer some of her germophobia at a hands on pasta making class. The best thing Courtney ate was the key lime risotto at a steak restaurant in Forte dei Marmi which the sisters will attempt to recreate.   While the sisters were off eating and drinking, Momma Ashley was holding down the fort on Viewside Drive. Between gardening and keeping Whitney's pool full of water, she kept busy making homemade chicken stock and cheesecake with some soon to be expired cream cheese.   The Ashley Gals will be toasting to this episode with a limoncello spritz! Buon Appetito!

Cat Hat, Teats, and Hamster Wheels

Courtney and Whitney are out of town this week but Whitney won’t let the sisters have a break. Instead we’ve put together a compilation of our most hilarious pet stories. Some oldies but goodies along with some new releases. Momma Ashley talks about our beloved dogs and our bat shit crazy cat Chelsea, whom she had a very interesting way of transporting to the vet. Our favorite identical twins, The Bishea's from episode 17, discuss with us Mary’s disgust of family pets while Emily reveals why they were never allowed to have any more pet fish. Andy, David, and Christine Odom from episode 14 have us LOLing when describing the simultaneous births their two cats endured. Lastly, we can’t have a pets episode without Andy and Dave Nolan reminiscing about Bandit the pissing sheep dog and a new story about Lady the old dog puppy. This episode will have you howling with laughter!

Stars, Stripes & Strippers

Today on Hey Sis, Eat This, we celebrate the 4th of July with two siblings who were born saluting the flag! Amanda and Jonathan Williamson grew up on Air Force bases around the world with their USAF Colonel Father Dave and their dedicated and loyal mother, Momma Mary. The word heroic comes to mind when discussing Momma Mary because it was her strength that navigated this family through countless moves, squadron picnics, and even a base bachelorette party.   Her tolerance for high school house parties warrants a Medal of Honor as these military brats went balls to the walls when their parents were AWOL. These two patriots used any chance they could get to light up the night throwing parties, leaving beer cans and bodily secretions in their wake.   Thank you Williamson family for your service to this country and Happy 4th of July! Let the fireworks begin!!

Border Stops and Sunday Sex Talks

News flash!! The Edwards are in the house! Today we welcome Jessica and Jamey Edwards of Buffalo New York to talk about the incredible and unstoppable Momma Ann. A famous local evening news anchor in Buffalo, Ann was not always around to put dinner on the table but there was certainly no lack of parenting from this tough as nails momma!   Finishing your food was a must at Ann’s table and if you weren’t in the mood for what was being served, be prepared to sit at the table until you plate was clean! While the Western omelet and raw egg smoothies were not Jamey’s favorites, Momma Ann’s frozen yogurt pie was a household favorite!   Ann also made sure her kids were ready for the real world with family sex talks on Sunday mornings, and a strict, “just say no to drugs” policy. From talking her way into a news anchor career at the super market to getting stopped at multiple international borders, it was never a dull moment with Momma Ann.   Through lots of laughter and lots of love, Jessica and Jamey fondly recall how Ann parented with an “anything is possible” attitude which shaped who they are as adults today. This is one outrageous momma you’re not going to want to miss!

Without your sperm, we wouldn’t be here.   We kick of the celebration off with some rapid fire questions for our amazing stepdads, Drew and Dwight. Bitching & Ditching

Today on this week’s episode of Sisters Dish we decided to just keep it to the sisters so we could dish!   Whitney recaps going to see our comedic idol Heather McMahan in Dallas and we make a plea for her and sister Ashley to come on Hey Sis to talk all about Momma Robin! In Los Angeles the Pre-teen injuries and drama continues in Courtney’s house resulting in us taking a vow to try our best to banish the bitchiness among women of all ages.   Are y'all hungry, yet? Whitney tells us about all of the delicious Texas cuisine she’s been having and how she tried to bribe up and coming Dallas chef, Mike Stites, with bourbon shots to try and get him to come on our podcast.   After hearing about their dads (yes that is dads as in plural) recent trip to Porta Vallarta and how it has become a hot spot for the gay community, the sisters decide they need to plan a self esteem boosting vacay in PV to hang out with some fabulous gay men to dote over them the way only a gay man can do!!   And finally we’re gearing up for Courtney’s daughter’s 6th grade graduation and Court has enlisted Mamu (Whitney) to help her chaperone 6th grade ditch day at 6 Flags Magic Mountain. Make sure to keep your hands and feet inside the cart at all times because this is one hilarious ride.

Sweet Southern Frosted Flake

Today we are thrilled to introduce these sweetie-pies from Winston-Salem, Brianna and Brittni. Brianna, the owner of Winston Pies, an incredible chain of pie shops in Southern California and her charming sister, Brittni, join us to reminisce about growing up in the South with their Southern Frosted Flake of a mother, Beverly. An avid baker, choosing cakes and cookies over carrots and cauliflower for dinner, Momma Beverly, is one of the most magical moms we’ve ever been introduced to on this podcast. Beverly, the opposite of a helicopter parent, chose to raise her children using, as the girls describe “broad bumper rails” for them to figure stuff out and encourage independence. This “highly emotionally intelligent” woman, described by Brittni, inspired creative thinking and self sufficiency while teaching the girls that they can accomplish anything they want if they work hard enough for it. The sisters reveal that dinner was often left for them to prepare with one Taco night ending up in the ER for Brittni. Christmas was and still is celebrated with such family traditions of matching PJ's and morning cinnamon buns. B & B share Momma Bev's favorite saying "It Could Happen". From four feet long Oscar the Grouch cakes to formal tea parties set with stuffed animals at the dining room table, Beverly showed her love through homemade sweets and hospitality. You'll love all the sweetness in this delicious episode of Hey Sis, Eat This and learn that it doesn't’ take a traditional dining table or a savory meal to bring love, joy and loyalty to family dinners.

A Meal Like Momma Makes!

On this week’s episode of Sisters Dish, the girls are feeling better and have lots to chat about! Whitney discovered pizza crack at a dinner party, Courtney continued creating crazy crostinis and Momma Ashley stumbled upon a flock of mounting mallards on her power walk. The girls also discuss their love of the GREAT Chef Andre Rush and make a plea for him to be a guest on Hey Sis! After that, Momma’s in the house!   They say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and Margaret & Carol are here to prove it! On this week’s sentimental episode we sit down with Momma Ashley and one of her BFF’S, Momma Carol to discuss the ins the outs, the trials and tribulations and all of the laughter that went on during the height of their catering careers. Long time friend, Carol Carter, was Momma Ashley’s right hand women when she launched her catering business, Always Out to Lunch Catering, in the mid 2000’s. However, in the throws of divorces, these two were far from ladies who lunched! Instead, we hear how these heroic women picked themselves up by the bootstraps, turned lemons into lemonade and learned the definition of resilience at a time when most of their friends were thinking about retirement.   You’ll be completely inspired as you listen to these two stong-ass women share with us how they worked themselves to the bone taking any job that came their way. We discuss how they catered everything from weddings and corporate events to the little old ladies bible study who poop poo'd their dainty finger sandwiches and demanded “a meal like momma makes!”   From slinging beer bottles in the middle of the night to scraping a vat of mac & cheese off the floor, there was nothing these mommas couldn’t handle in the kitchen. As they were simultaneously going through divorce after decades of marriage, these incredible women made cooking together their therapy and laughter their medicine. Despite the hardships of having to start new lives in their 50’s, they look back on that time fondly as a period of growth where they learned how to be independent, that you don’t need a man to be happy and that self love is the most important thing of all. We couldn’t be more in awe of these mommas who have had an indelible impact on who we are as women today. For anyone going through a challenging time in life, we hope this episode gives you some hope that you are not alone, time heals everything, and you’re much stronger than you think! Oh! And don’t forget to laugh!!

Episode 17: Holy Mary Mother of Twins

It’s double the fun on this weeks episode of Hey Sis, Eat This with identical twin sisters, Mary and Emily Bishea. Growing up in the suburbs of Chicago this duo gave Momma Mary Rita a run for her money from day one! With their heartbeats in synch for the entire pregnancy, the doctors were not even aware that Mary Rita was pregnant with twins until she screamed “there’s another one coming!!” 10 minutes later and without a name picked out, Mary Margaret was born.   We learn how a young Momma Mary Rita navigated parenthood with unexpected twins. From painting pinky nails with nail polish to tell them apart to dressing them alike for way too long, Mary Rita did her best to keep these two in line. When little brother Spike came along a few years later, Mary Rita was really put to the test, when a hot dog chocking incident almost ended with a tracheotomy.   Despite the drama, she always had dinner on the table whether it was her famous lasagna or the kids most dreaded dish, chicken baked in milk. The twins recall how an over protective Mary Rita got out of giving the sex talk, sheltered them from dirty movies, and generously gave them her famous white Ford Windstar that became the backdrop for many teenage tales.   Twins Emily and Mary share it all including the times they used their identical looks to get up to some pretty elaborate pranks. Most importantly, they share their love and appreciation for Mary Rita and for all she has done and still does for them today. We promise you will laugh twice as hard and have double the fun on this special episode!

This week Courtney and Whitney kick off the episode with a recap of their wild weekend and are joined by Momma Ashley to make sure they don’t miss any details. The sisters were together in Dallas over the weekend to podcast, cook together, and party it up for Whitney’s birthday.   Then, Court & Whit have the pleasure of talking to a reverend, a lawyer, and an architect! Andy, David, and Christine Odom have been longtime friends of the Ashley family and as kids these siblings grew up laughing together and getting into trouble in the pews of the neighborhood church. The Odom’s also open up about their dinner table and how it was often a difficult place to be until they were a little older. We hear how Momma Rita heroically navigated a divorce while co-parenting and because of her incredible strength was able to bring joy and laughter back to the dinner table.   The siblings recount that while Rita always had dinner on the table, it was her desserts, especially an old family chocolate pie recipe, where she really shined. The laughter really begins when the Odom’s tell the sisters about how Momma Rita handled the two family cats giving birth at the exact same time and one odd job Momma Rita once had that scared the kids from peeking into the refrigerator.   We hope other parents listening who might be co-parenting can learn from this episode bc it is filled with love and laughter despite some of the hardships of having divorced parents. We can certainly relate to that.

Sisters Dish: The Great Freezer Audit

The sisters are just about ready to break up with cooking after a marathon week together in LA trying out new recipes. After rehashing their fave dishes, they discuss their different styles of entertaining guests and how Whitney’s low key approach to dinner parties gives Courtney too much anxiety.   It’s almost time to celebrate National Siblings Day where the girls are calling all sibs to dial into the Hey Sis Hotline (866-4-HEYSIS) with funny stories. To get the party started, Court and Whit recount a few instances from their past when they’ve gotten in trouble with Momma Ashley, an unfortunate incident in the family station wagon and a time in Vegas where the ladies were a bit too inebriated.   Finally, on this edition of Sister’s Dish, Momma Ashley joins the girls as Whitney goes through her recent freezer audit of Momma’s 3 freezers. Court & Whit grill her on expiration dates as Momma continues to defend that anything and everything in there “will be fine!” Courtney then challenges her to take some of the older items and make an “It'll be fine” meal to see if the severe freezer burn really has affected her pork chops and if pesto can be made from old AF shishito peppers.   It’s all there to laugh along with on episode 9 of Hey Sis Eat This, Sister’s Dish!

Spite Food & Bull Shots While Talking Texan

The sarcasm is explosive on this episode of Hey Sis, Eat This when the Shaw Siblings, Jason, Colin and Lindsay chat with Courtney & Whitney about the incredible Momma Susan, the family’s infamous “Mexican Food” and all the trouble they caused growing up in Dallas. The jury is still out on who’s to blame for setting fire to the mantel and almost ruining Christmas and the siblings continue to feud over who’s coffee cake won in the family's holiday “coffee cake off!” Between ghost driving vehicles and drunk teens in a suburban, it’s a miracle no one was ever arrested in this colorful family! While Momma Susan knew her way around the kitchen thanks to every under mount appliance ever made, Lindsay discusses her vehement hatred of her mom's egg salad that she only made when Lindsay was in trouble. Thanks to the family dog, Jason managed to dodge his most dreaded dish of green beans for a whole year while Colin calls out the injustices of discipline between older and younger siblings. The episode culminates when both sets of siblings breakdown why they all feel the need to talk "REAL country" when imitating their mothers Texas accents. Tune in for one of a kind recipes, hilarious family tales and how a “Bullshot Cocktail” will be your new favorite morning beverage!

Little Debbie’s, 69, & Drunk Moms

Whitney’s Bestie from LA, Claudia DiRomualdo and her older sister Vickie join the sisters to dish on their fabulous Momma Janice who is known for liking food but loving fashion more. Sharing the same 6 year age gap as the Ashley sisters, Claudia recalls what an amazing babysitter Vickie was growing up while Vickie shares that Momma Janice’s cure for any illness is a glass of wine and a bowl of pasta.  Speaking of pasta, it’s discovered that Momma Janice made freakishly huge meatballs and during a health kick decided to omit the rue from her chicken pot pie recipe resulting in a dish looking like biscuits bobbing in dish water.  Vickie reveals how Momma Janice broke down the birds and the bees to her and shares her own tale of having to explain to her two young daughters why people always laugh at the number 69.  All the sisters practically die of laughter when sharing drunk mom stories and Whitney runs the risk of never being invited back to a DiRomualdo thanksgiving when she tells the story of Momma Janice mistakenly eating raw beef after 1 ½ glasses of Chardonnay.

We also learn the origin of the girls obsession with dirty martinis and why there is a very good reason they have an explicit rating for the show! It is discovered that apparently Momma Ashley has some very strong opinions about the podcast and has concerns over the sisters offending the audience. Whitney dives into the Pierogi Party she had with Momma Helen and the Nolan brothers and how this experience has inspired the Sisters to want to cook with more Mommas. Finally, the Hey Sis “Foodometer” rating system is explained and why we keep referring to dishes as “Panty Droppers!”

Burt Reynolds, Bandit and Beer Cheese Soup

Minnesota natives and Whitney’s neighbors, Dave and Andy Nolan join the sisters to dish on the amazing Helen Nolan who is single-handedly saving the planet with her gardening superpowers. Between shopping sprees at the Goodwill and her propensity for freezing mysterious translucent liquids, her devoted sons share hilarious memories of their loyal and very resourceful momma!   The Polish brothers take a deep dive into the art of perogies, and we discovered that there is no such thing as too much sour cream… on anything!    Andy and Dave also have a close-knit relationship with Momma Ashley, seeing as she lives down the street. The brothers share with the audience that there is no need for a neighborhood watch with Momma Ashley living on the block. The sisters spill the beans on how Andy’s beer cheese soup was so good, it made Momma Ashley have dirty thoughts!

Mommy Dearest & Dirty Martinis

On the first episode of Hey Sis, Eat This, get to know Courtney and Whitney and how they’ve  been preparing for this podcast their entire lives. Growing up in Dallas with parents who were always entertaining friends, the sisters have been honing their cooking and party throwing skills  since birth.  The sisters reminisce on their colorful childhood full of pranks that lead them to finally becoming besties once Whitney was of legal (questionable) drinking age. We learn that Courtney & Whitney are passionate about keeping the “Art of the Dinner Party” alive but oddly no one ever reciprocates the invite. We also discover that cooking with the Ashley sisters is a party in itself and while there can be kitchen conundrums, food and entertaining is their love language which they inherited from their mom.    Next comes the real STAR of the show, Margaret, AKA Momma Ashley, a caterer and entertainer extraordinaire! Momma sits down with the girls to drink dirty martinis while she fondly remembers her own mother who would often embarrass her as a teen with constant stop and chats with complete strangers, a habit that all the Ashley women continue to carry on today.   She also dishes on Courtney’s driving record, Whitney being frequently on “house arrest,” and who pisses her off the most. So sit back, shake yourself a dirty one and enjoy the show!
