Pre-Suasion: A Marketer's Way to Influence & Persuade, with Dr. Robert Cialdini

Marketing. It’s the art of influencing, persuading and gently nudging people towards your product or services. I’ve had a chat with the Grand master of influence and persuasion - Dr. Robert Cialdini Questions: Tell us about what you do, how did Pre-Suasion came about? What took you so long to write this prequel to Influence? What are privileged moments and how can marketers take full advantage of these? What types of marketing efforts and consumer product review are most successful? (Why should on-line photographs of fluffy clouds help sell furniture?) Should you try to prime people in your USP right at the top of your website? If so, is there a process to follow? In other words, if priming is so important, should it be the first thing they read when they hit your website? Why our perception of what is important can so easily be shifted, and how the US government used this to their advantage during the Iraq War Which triggers are most effective, from the verbal (there is a linguistic, not just musical, reason why ‘Like a Rolling Stone’ has been voted the greatest pop song of all time by some) to the physical (the layout of an examination hall can influence candidates’ results)? When looking for a job, what takeaways from Pre-Suasaion could you employ to incline your evaluators to be more favorable to your candidacy? Once you’ve got that job, what might you do to increase the chances that your boss will support an idea/initiative you want to be associated with? A Guide to Social Selling, with Tim Hughes

It’s time to catch up with our good buddy and social selling sorcerer Tim Hughes again. We previously discussed the 5 Pillars of Social Selling, this time we talk about organisational impact, change makers and Tim’s new book. Questions for Tim include: Tell our listeners who didn't hear you last time around, what is it that you do? Would you agree that the term personal branding doesn't appeal to managers and organisations? It's personal branding, say, as opposed to the organisation. How do you use social networks to build trust and a high quality community? Do you create content to resonate with those people doing research? Do you find people lurk? They'll consume your free content for ages without connecting with you and then suddenly they're ready to buy from you? Highly influential people with millions of followers don't get as many connection requests and questions as you would think. I interact with people on Twitter and typically they reply. Speaking of social and digital channels; which ones work best? I'm thinking LinkedIn and Twitter perhaps? What do you think of other new channels such as Snapchat, which I think you're fairly active on as well, or Instagram even? For social selling on LinkedIn, would you say Sales Navigator is a must-have? What about Twitter, or any other apps or tools that you can't live without? In the book, you also talk about how to scale a social selling strategy across an organisation. Is employee advocacy part of social selling? Or vice versa, even? Is employee advocacy part of social selling, or is social selling part of employee advocacy? I interviewed Ed Terpening from Altimeter Group the other week. He said social selling is part of employee advocacy. The most shared or second-most shared type of content is about jobs - shouldn't it also be about fun stuff and interesting things? Can you give us examples of any organisations that inspire you in terms of social selling? Who's doing it right? The Myth of Social Media, with Scott Monty

We speak to Scott Monty, of Scott Monty Strategies, author of the Full Monty newsletter and erstwhile Head of Social Media at Ford Motor Company. We ask Scott the following questions: Is social media just a myth? Pls tell us about this Gallup study and some of the top line findings Company-sponsored Facebook pages and Twitter feeds have almost no persuasive power, according to Gallup - but they drive action? Could this be what’s driving users no new platforms like Snapchat or non-social services like Whatsapp? If companies want to acquire new customers, what's their best bet? Social media doesn't exist in a vacuum, and consumers rarely interact with companies through these channels alone; how do we integrate social as one touchpoint part of an overall customer experience? Consumers are more likely to engage with companies through social media when they believe those companies' intentions are genuine. They look for real people and communities. So how can companies become part of the conversation? In your experience from Ford and working with other companies, what social media activities did you find giving the best results? What brands have got this right in your opinion and why? What will happen over the next 2-3 years in the social and digital space? What's your very classical word of wisdom? How to Get Started with Inbound Marketing featuring David Smooke

Learn more: http://linkhumans.com/blog/inbound-marketing-david-smooke From the article: Inbound marketing is a great way to get people to your own message. At the simplest level, it’s driving traffic to your values. I really look at it with the rise of the internet as the best way to market because as you put out your message, your ideas, your content, your status updates, you end up attracting people that align with how you already see the world. So instead of paying for direct mail and ads and trying to convince people it’s who you are, you just keep telling people who and what you are and who you help and have content that supports that. You end up forming an audience of really potential buyers. It’s exciting for me in the marketing space because really right now it’s valued more so than the size your wallet is, the quality of your message because we have so many channels and mediums available to us online that we didn’t have 5 years ago, 10 years ago. Even the last year or two you still have new platforms emerging. Medium, LinkedIn Publisher, there’s always a new blog coming along, there’s always a new place to write. It’s been exciting for my career. I just write something and I’m able to talk to people like you and read things you’re writing and comment on your articles. It’s an exciting time to be in inbound marketing.
