It’s a source of camaraderie, memes, marketing, and stress management for modern moms, but one that is not without huge, and often overlooked, health risks. This week we talk about the toxicity and health risks of society’s mindless embrace of mommy wine culture. It's not all yoga pants, rose and SUVs. Episode 8 - Replacing Your Addiction
Have you heard the term ‘hungry ghost’? Coined by the infamous Gabor Mate, the hungry ghost is a symptom of addictive behaviours and relates to an ongoing attempt to fill or cope with an unmet need through addictive behaviour. The issue with the addict’s strategy is that the core need is left unmet, we never feel fulfilled. In our experience, when we removed the core coping mechanism other ones popped up more frequently (cue online shopping and endless gummy bears). This week we talk about some of the emotional motivators and replacement behaviours we have been experiencing in early sobriety. Binge drinking and blackouts are synonymous in North American drinking culture. As teens, we jump into binge drinking as a means to escape, become more ‘adult’, and deal with the discomfort these transitional years bring. Binge drinking and blackouts are normalized and celebrated throughout teen and young adult culture and sets us up for increased high-risk behaviours, possible medical issues, and an increased risk of alcohol use disorder.
