Breastfeeding Shaming: The Mom Shaming That No One Talks About
In this episode of the Discerning Parenting Podcast, we talk about the mom shaming that no one talks about. There's a lot of talk about mom-shaming on the internet. Someone will post something on Instagram, whether it's about screen time or feeding, or any topic actually. And there will be comments calling out that person saying that's mom shaming. Now, I don't know what the world's coming to that it feels like moms now get shamed for almost everything. They're shamed for staying home. For going to work, for working from home. They're shamed for giving screen time, for restricting screen time. They're shamed for feeding only healthy food, for feeding "junk food".There's one type of mom-shaming that happens just as often as the other types of mom-shaming. But I'm baffled about why no one talks about it. So, if you're breastfeeding, or planning to breastfeed, or you are supporting a breastfeeding mom, listen to this. Two-Year-Old Babbling but Not Yet Talking?
Do either of these situations sound familiar? Sometimes, I meet kids who are three or four and not yet talking. Often, the mom was already worried way before this. But everyone around her said, “Oh that’s okay, just wait and he’ll start talking before you know it.” Maybe she’ll hear a story about a kid who didn’t talk until he was four and is now very talkative. So the mom ends up feeling like she’s worried about nothing. On the other hand, I also encounter moms who are worried because their two-year-old doesn’t know the ABCs or can’t name flashcards yet. Maybe they feel a lot of pressure because of what they see on the internet about what lessons their toddlers should be having. That’s why in this episode, I’ll talk about what language skills most two-year-olds would have. And what to do if your two-year-old is babbling but not yet talking. BY THE TIME YOU FINISH LISTENING, YOU’LL WALK AWAY WITH: The ONE communication skill your toddler needs to develop at this age (and no, it has nothing to do with naming flash cards or reciting the alphabet!)The often-overlooked "hidden skills" when it comes to communication. What exactly you should be looking for to know that your toddler's development is on the right trackGet your FREE guide - A Week of Language-Boosting Activities for Toddlers. If you’ve connected with this episode in some way, leave a review and share your biggest takeaway with me.
