Classic Geek Speak - 1360: CGS Super Show 2013 Storytime with Uncle Sal Panel
On what would have been Jamie D's 57th birthday, we at Comic Geek Speak head back into the archives to rerelease a true gem. A little bit over ten years ago, the weekend of April 6th and 7th 2013 to be exact, CGS held Comic Geek Speak Super Show 2013 at the Greater Reading Expo Center (which is now a warehouse). At that event, Uncle Sal sat down with Jamie, with some Pants interjection for good measure, and let loose. This is also the event where Uncle Sal received his Freking Sweer award! Listen in and enjoy, but earmuffs, as there will be swears and stories you shouldn't repeat to your kids or grandmother, as always. And happy birthday, Jamie! Shiznit strong, always. (1:22:50)

1905 - Multiversal Movie Review: Spider-Man Across the Spider-verse and The Flash
You wanna get nuts? Come on, let's get nuts! Welcome to our reality, as Chris, Shane, Murd and Ian play catch-up and get to reviewing two of the summer's most multiversal of movies. First, they discuss Spider-Man Across the Spiderverse (discussion begin at 6:08), the second entry in Lord and Miller's love-letter to all things Spidey, and Miles Morales' time to theatrically shine. Then, they switch gears to the Distinguished Competition for a movie many many many years in the making, Andy Muschietti's The Flash (discussion begins at 58:48). Do both of these universe spanning stories open a vortex through space filled with joy for the Geeks, or are things a bit more complicated? How many cameos does it take to screw in a lightbulb? Can CGI bring actors back to life? These questions and more await, as do the answers. (1:59:29)

1902 - Introducing...Rama-Tut, Kang and Immortus
What better way to follow up a release of the Time Bubble than to dip our toe into the origins of three (or is it one...?) of Marvel's timey-whimiest villains for our latest in the Introducing...series. And best of all, Murd, Chris and Ian do so in studio! That's right, revel in the comradery as the Timely Trio discuss Fantastic Four issue 19, and Avengers issues 8 and 10, the first appearances of Rama-Tut, Kang, and Immortus. All three of these issues were written by Stan the Man himself, with art by King Kirby for the first two, and Don Heck for our finale. Prepare to be transformed by the rays of the Egyptian sun, be sure to shield yourself for all sorts of random radiation (and acid), and ponder whether or not the villain attacking you is dreamy under that full face mask. Finally, by the time you're done with this one, you too will be a master of Yubiwaza, this we guarantee; Teen Brigade interference and all. Excelsior! (1:51:52)

The crew also goes deep into GI Joe's very first five-part animated miniseries, The M.A.S.S. Device. Discussion includes variation in tone between the two versions of the franchise, whether the comic is as kid-friendly as the show, if the show is even as kid-friendly as we remember it to be, the 80s house animation style, Scarlett's split romantic longings, Cobra Commander's competency or lack thereof, Snake Eyes glowing like a Christmas tree, a lot more references to slavery than we remembered, the slaughtering of an entire village, Destro having all the best one-liners, and so much more. Much more includes plenty of toy talk from Shane and the rest of the Geeks, that's for sure! So now you know. And knowing is... well, you get the idea. (1:58:18)

Some pieces are instructional, some all ages, some for adults, but all of these Top 5 choices (and one in particular more than the others) are, as always our hill, and our beans. And even if you're already quite familiar with comics as a whole, hopefully you'll find these suggestions as good items to read, or for someone you know to read! (2:43:14)

What accent is Christopher Lambert using anyway? Listen closely, as your destiny awaits! We also have a challenger to Murd's throne, Muddle the Murd style. Finally, a reminder that this one is not for the kiddies, so wear headphones where needed. And before the show comes to a close, we squeak in a Muddle the Murd, like we do. (2:09:10)

1791 - Top 5 Performances in Comic Related Movies
Some actors and actresses are so good at a role they make it their own, while still managing to honor the source material that came before. This Top 5 respects and represents these performances throughout the comic book movie genre. Will there be crossover amongst the Geek's choices, or will each list stand alone? Is each choice a superhero, or do some non-superhero portrayals make the cut? Are they all actors taking on lead characters, or is there a side character or two? I'll never tell, I prefer leaving you all in suspense. And...cut! (1:52:16)

In this first part, the crew are joined once again by The Amazing Spider-Talk's Dan Gvozden to cover issues 121 to 126, including such memorable moments as the final fate of Gwen Stacy, The Green Goblin's (kinda) last stand, a guest appearance by the tiara and chains wearing Luke Cage, Harry Osborn's descent into madness, John Jameson's hairy alter-ego The Man Wolf, Johnny Storm helps Peter with some car trouble, and Spider-Man faces his greatest foe...The Kangaroo. Our Shazam Spotlight odyssey brings us to the tumultuous post-Crisis years (1986-93), when the original Captain Marvel struggled to find his footing in the dark deconstructionism of the revised DC Universe. We'll bear witness as the magic lightning forks, creating no fewer than TWO distinct and competing post-Crisis characterizations of the good Captain: the golly-gee-whizzing super-naif of Giffen/DeMatteis/Maguire's Justice League (as related in a sidebar by CGS staff BWAH-HA-HA-logist Shane Kelly), and the more serious take of Roy and Dann Thomas. We'll meet Copper Age incarnations of classic villains Dr. Sivana, Black Adam, and Captain Nazi. And we'll note Cap's participation in DCU crossovers such as Legends, War of the Gods, and Eclipso. It was the worst of times for Daredevil; it was the best of times for his readers! It was 1986, and comics auteur Frank Miller was making his second pass at writing Marvel's Daredevil series, accompanied this time by master draftsman David Mazzucchelli as artist. What Miller accomplished over seven revolutionary issues (Daredevil #227-233), collectively titled 'Born Again,' was the total decimation of Matt Murdock's life and Murdock's subsequent triumphant resurgence, in a masterful tale steeped in hardboiled crime fiction and Christian allegory. Join our CGS literary circle (including Doctors of Daredevology Chris Eberle and Kevin Moyer) in an examination of this deft deconstruction and reconstruction of one of Marvel's iconic characters.
