Just For Laughs Festival!

God I Hate Shakespeare

Today's show features two interviews, a review and some songs to change it up! We heard from Jacob Baldwin about the Eh! Comedy Festival for one of the interviews. Next up was with UBC Alum Daniel Curalli who is currently playing Shakespeare in Theatre Under The Stars' "Something Rotten!", he also will be understudying Farren Timoteo as Francesco Mantini in The Arts Club's "Made in Italy" which will overlap with his run on Something Rotten!. We started off today with an in-studio interview with Brandon Yan about the Queer Film Festival which was followed by an interview with Nicole Spinola that Dave Campbell from Eclectic Lunch (Fridays 12 pm!) did about Campcue, a theatre camp! We played Lua's review of White Girls in Moccasins which was recorded at the airport so excuse the background noise but hey, content creation never stops. Surprise! Bonus Episode I Fundrive 2022

Today was a bonus episode in which we talk about non-local things, all for Fundrive*!We started off by hearing from Brandon at Unsigned BC, catch them on Tuesdays and Saturdays for more local music! They are based in Victoria and volunteer run just like us. We then talked about all the events you can attend for Black History Month, ranging from livestreams to guided tours. After we were done with BC, we jumped to Deon in France! They talked about the Cannes Film Festival which they attended and it was such a pretty segment that now I want to go to Cannes to attend the festival. Afterwards we started talking about books. Before we go to Ireland for Normal People, Serra talked about the Storygraph which is a Black-owned, indie Goodreads alternative. 10/10 recommendation if you're a book lover. Our last segment was focused on Sally Rooney's Normal People because it is a beautifully written book that everyone should read and its tv adaptation is just as good as the book!

Welcome 2022!

Happy new year folks! Our first show of 2022 was full of interviews. We started off with Ruby's interview with Laura Adamo, writer/director/producer and star of the feature film “The Wishing Tree”. Last Show of 2021

Our last episode of the year was pretty chill. We had Serra's interview with Erick Lichte about Chor Leoni's upcoming Christmas with Chor Leoni performance. The two talked about the projects Chor Leoni has taken on during the pandemic, getting back to performing live and how Erick needs to make sure the back of his head needs to look good because as the conductor that's what the audience sees! Back in the Studio!

Filled to the Brim

Today's episode was packed! We started with a shout-out to the artist talk for Inaction presented by the Richmond Art Gallery. Shout-out to Stories of Kindness is an interview series that is focused on spreading kindness, connection, and storytelling through children. Inspiring youth from across Canada were selected to co-host the series and were paired for these important conversations with celebrity guests and it is premiering on March 27th! This week we had three interviews and one review! We started off with an interview with Shaun Dacey about "Inaction", a new exhibition at the Richmond Art Gallery that comes to life with dance! Welcome back everyone! We had a great summer break but now it's time to report on some local art. We kicked off today's episode with an interview with Jessie Anthony who is the writer, director and producer of the movie "Brother, I Cry" which you can catch on VIFF until October 7th. After this incredible interview, Serra reviewed Kokoro Dance's "Reading the Bones" which was livestreamed as part of VIDF. The rest of today's show was filled with shout-outs. We started today's episode with an amazing interview with the lovely Sloan Thompson. She is the director of Revolt. She Said. Revolt Again. and she gave us a sneak peak into this modern play that is opening tomorrow night at the Frederick Wood Theatre. We will also be doing a ticket giveaway for this show so keep an eye out for that! We followed that with another great interview with one of the cast members, Samantha Symington, of Trans Scripts, Part I: The Women. This award-winning work stars seven local transgender powerhouses, and is compiled from interviews with more than 70 transgender women in six different countries. We also had Sophie Mueler's debut as one of our new reporters with a review of The Grunt Gallery. This was a packed show, but I promise it is worth a listen. To end the show we had two reviews of two very different performances. First The Wedding Party, a comedy being put on by the Arts Club, and then Ballet BC's Romeo and Juliet.

Get Ready for Some Dance

We started our show by talking about Inheritance: a choose-your-adventure ( a pick-the-path) experience and we also had the chance to talk with Eugene Crain about it. After listening to this amazing interview, we introduced Riot Girls, a feature film that will be screening in the Vancouver International Women in Film Festival. Continued with an interview with Lauren Grant who is the producer of Riot Girls, we found out that she will be holding a Script to Screen workshop for the festival! After a quick ad and psa break, we came back with a shout-out to Broken Tailbone which is being featured in Boca del Lupo. In Broken Tailbone, Carmen Aguirre leads a public Latin American dance lesson, woven with hilarious stories of her experiences in the hidden world of dance halls in Canada. We finished the show with talking about even more dance, the Vancouver International Dance Festival that's coming up this weekend!

Fundrive!

Today's show was a special one because we are promoting our annual fundraiser, Fundrive! This year's theme is Crush. Do you have a crush on CiTR? Only one host? No problem!

Today's show was hosted by Serra. She started the show with interview with the director and cast of the shows we later reviewed (or are going to review)! First Serra talked to the director of Urinetown: The Musical, Courtenay Dobbie, who gave us a cool insight into why Urinetown is such a cool and important musical. Then we heard from Christine Quintana, who is part of the cast of Anywhere but Here. This is a show about immigration that we are going to talk more about on the following week. Gruesome Playground Injuries received a shout-out for its cool approach to theatre, and we followed that with the actual review of Urinetown: The Musical and Noises Off ( a comedy put on by the Arts Club - it was HILARIOUS). The show ended with Serra's review of FRONTERA, which is a beautiful dance spectacle part of the PuSH festival.

Intense plays all around

We started the show with an interview with the lovely Luciana Silvestre Fernandes who is the Director of The Changeling now on at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts. The play discussed has mentions of sexual violence, among other things. It is definitely not suitable for younger audiences. We talked a little more about set design, costume, and overall effect of the play after the interview. Then, listened to a pre-recorded interview with the bassist of Fly Pan Am who are playing live for FRONTERA. After a quick break, we reminded everyone of FUNDRIVE and we finally revealed all the prizes you can receive when donating if you mention our show! To end the show on a high note we reviewed Old Stock: A Refugee Love Story.

The first of the decade!

Welcome back to the Arts Report. On today's show we talked a little about what the PuSh Festival is and what we will be covering. We then heard an interview with one of the actors of Old Stock: A Refugee Love Story, Ben Caplan. Hanging on to Halloween

Hello! On today's show we started with an interview that was meant to be aired the week before with the director of the documentary Be Afraid: The Science of Fear. It is a very cool film and it can be found on the CBC's free streaming service. We then an interview with the director of The Turn of the Screw. Plays Galore

Last Summer Show

Summer Fun

Today we started the show with an interview with Paisley Eva who is one of the founders of Dame Vinyl, an amazing organization that trains female identifying persons on vinyl DJing. They are performing this weekend at the Indian Summer Festival event: Conjuring the Future! Then we had an interview conducted by Margarita Galper of the Alt-Rock Band CIVILIANA, and we played one of their songs: Carry a Light! We followed these interviews with a review of Shakespeare in Love being put up by Bard on the Beach throughout the summer. Blind Tiger Comedy is offering free comedy courses throughout the summer for women-femme-trans people which we were sure to give a shout-out to. Another shout-out we gave was about how The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) and imagineNATIVE Film+Media Arts Festival are partnering to launch a call for Indigenous voice artists to apply for a Digital Project Prize. And last but not least, another shout-out to the documentary Because We Are Girls which is coming back to VIFF. We ended the show with an interview with Thomas Chan who is part of the ensemble of Mama Mia being produced by TUTS.
