The Inner Development Goals: Self-Development for Social Change

For Ashley, a member of our community working in the non-profit sector, the focus for the upcoming year is on self-care and self-development. How do we assess whether something is ‘Ethical’

"Whether or not something is ethical tends to be quite subjective… We hear a lot about ethical consumption or ethical investing, but how should we assess whether something is ethical?" Ethics, the study of what is morally good or right, and the assessment of ethical matters is a topic that resonates with many changemakers. Given my background in philosophy, I was keen to delved into the complexity of this question and answer it by drawing from three branches of moral philosophy: meta ethics, normative ethics, and applied ethics. Social change requires an abundance mindset: here's how we practically utilise that

In order to create the world we want, we need to shift our collective consciousness towards an abundance mindset. We can do this by recognising that it's only when we work alone that resources are scarce. Collective enoughness is the practical application of an abundance mindset for social changemakers. You'll never change the world without a vision...

Change is a constant in our world, and those who seek to bring about positive change must be able to adapt to the ever-changing landscape. At the same time, it is important for changemakers to have a clear vision for the future. Without a clear vision, it can be difficult to set goals and measure progress. Additionally, a clear vision can help to inspire others to join the cause and rally around a shared goal. Just as importantly, a clear vision can help to keep changemakers motivated when the going gets tough. After all, it can be easy to lose sight of the big picture when confronted with day-to-day challenges. By contrast, those who have a clear vision for the future are more likely to stay the course and continue fighting for change even in the face of adversity. Got a question? How to define your truth as a changemaker

Whenever I'm experiencing a bit of a slump or I'm feeling out of 'alignment,' I like to conduct a life audit to see where I may not be living in alignment with my 'truth,' which is what I believe defines our success as changemakers. 60 Years later, what can we learn from Martin Luther King Jr’s Philosophy of Nonviolence

As political instability increases, the world is beginning to engage in discussions about world peace. But what exactly is peace, and why is using peace as a means just as important as having peace as an end goal? Dr Martin Luther King Jr was at the forefront of the civil rights movement 60 years ago. As activists today, in the fight against injustice (whether that be towards humans, animals, or the planet) we can learn a lot from the teachings of Martin Luther King Jr, and the philosophy he left behind.
