Fitness For Jiu-Jitsu : Why Fatigue is making you bad at BJJ

Do you train BJJ when you are exhausted? Does your coach push you to fatigue in warm up so you roll tired? Even though there is something to be said for being able to push yourself to keep going when you are almost completely gassed out, practicing sloppy reps because you want to be fitter is only going to make your BJJ Skills worse. JT & Joey dissect this topic and look at it from a few different angles. "Training Tired is training Stupid" If you are early in the Jiu-Jitsu journey you need to put a premium on what helps you learn - physical fatigue won't help. Mental toughness is a key part of rolling and improving at BJJ but trying to practice skills can make your game dumb but tough. If you are someone who likes to go hard on and off the mat this is a good episode for you.Stay Hydrated with Sodii the tastiest electrolytes in the Game! Drilling For BJJ: Why Specific Skill Practice Matters in Jiu-Jitsu

Do you drill techniques? Does your coach make you drill in class? On today's show we are joined by Adam Childs from the " Beyond Jiu-Jitsu Podcast"  and head coach of Vantage Jiu-Jitsu. This is a broad discussion of the benefits and limitations of isolated skill practice. Recently the popular discussion has been around 'Anti-Drilling' and the 'Ecological Approach' to learning BJJ. When looking more closely at other high skill disciplines- Dancing, Music, Gymnastics & Cooking. In order to be good at any of them there is a disciplined and systemised approach which requires immense attention to detail. Once the rules and principles have been learned then breaking away and being more experimental could help progress your learning but is this how we should all learn? This is a wide ranging discussion and Adam brings a great insight as a coach and how to help beginners improve with drilling.Check out the Beyond Jiu-Jitsu Podcast: https://open.spotify.com/show/2mjOQYDy1L9f4wOmf49dsd?si=3a0be3511ba4420eStay Hydrated with Sodii the tastiest electrolytes in the Game! Mediation, Flow States & BJJ Mindfulness.

Do you meditate? Do you ever feel in the flow when rolling? Sitting still and meditating is a world away from the intensity of choking someone on the mats. But they can get you to a similar place mentally. BJJ is a form of enforced mindfulness because when you are being smothered under mount all you can think about is getting out of there- no bills, no job, no family, just you and what you need to do in the moment. The post roll relief and clarity that comes from a great Jiu-Jitsu session clears your mind in a similar way to meditation. When you are deep in a full on roll have you ever felt in Flow- automatic action without conscious thought. (Not a Flow roll...)This topic sound a little Woo Woo but JT & Joey unpack the differences and similarities with some interesting and hilarious insights that can change the way you look at meditation.Stay Hydrated with Sodii the tastiest electrolytes in the Game! Is Being Humble Good For BJJ?

Is BJJ built on Humility or fought and won by Ego? Even though much of what is encouraged in the world of BJJ is to be humble and respectful, so much of the success we see in the competitive arena is brash shows of Ego. Trash talk, people beating their chests and making fun of other competitors does show much humility at all. The key question is- does be humble help your BJJ?It is a great quality as human to be modest but this is not necessarily going to help you improve at BJJ. The level of self belief and ego it takes to over come all the challenges BJJ throws at you in order to be great has little to do with Humility. Always getting Injured at BJJ: Being Tough vs Getting Good

What's the worst injury you have had at BJJ? Are you always injured but not doing any rehab? BJJ is rough on your body, ignoring injuries and taking damage on a regular basis is often a source of pride to show toughness. Constantly being injured and complaining about it without taking action to fix it is not being a warrior- it's being a victim. BJJ does reward us for being tough but not taping won't actually help you get better at the art.
