Hello, everyone, and welcome to my channel Brazilian Portuguese channel.
Interview with a Carioca, in other words, she is born and bred in Rio de Janeiro
This episode is a phone call that I made to Rio de Janeiro to talk to a person born and bred in this beautiful city, which mesmerizes foreign tourists.
My purpose is not only to ask her to speak about the Carioca food, slang, places to visit, Carnaval time... but also to give you the opportunity of listening to her accent, which is considered by all of us Brazilians the most pleasant accent found in Brazil.
It is also interesting to listen to it, attentively, to enable you to know when you are talking or overhearing a Carioca speaking to somebody.
I hope you enjoy it and let me know on my Instagram if you have had the chance of visiting Rio de Janeiro. If you haven`t, I strongly recommend visiting it.

Weird Brazilian expressions spoken by genuine people
I have prepared this podcast to start 2022 with different and unusual words which are spoken by our people on a daily basis.
You will hear dialogue on the phone between two neighbors Linda and Cida. Cida rang Linda in early and cold morning, just to ask
Linda if by chance she had a pack of canjica ( kind of corn, cooked in water, and after straining the water, you add hot milk...)

Brazilian ways to describing personalities
This podcast is about the different personalities of different people. In Portuguese, as well as in English, we have several ways to describe somebody`s personality.
Firstly, I will explain in English the adjectives that describe personalities. Once you know what I am speaking about, you`ll be able to understand the examples in a context, ( if you are an intermediate language learner) easier than if the adjectives were loose, and not in sentences.
In order to improve your listening, and vocabulary, listen to it twice and repeat it out loud for yourself. Record your voice, to compare it with my pronunciation. If you want the PDF, go to my Instagram page "teachermaryportuguese" and send me a DM, asking for the Pdf.
Hope to see you soon

adverbs of manner that modify verbs and adjectives
Adverbs of manner modify verbs, adjectives and other adverbs as well.
Today you will learn that the suffix LY ( in English) is = Mente (in Portuguese). So the purpose of this podcast is to explain how you transform a verb or an adjective into an adverb of manner and its function by using our suffix MENTE.
ex. adjectives + Ly and adjetivos + mente
calm+ly=calmly calma+mente= calmamente
rapid+ly=rapidly rápida+mente= rapidamente
perfect+ly=perfectly perfeito+mente= perfeitamente
I will give you some examples in sentences,
1- Ela fala um inglês perfeito. Ela fala inglês perfeitamente. ( she speaks English perfectly)
Here the adverb perfeitamente is modifying the verb "falar" telling us how she speaks English.
2- Ontem por causa da chuva forte, eu não saí. Estava chovendo fortemente. ( Yesterday because of the heavy rain, I didn't go out. It was raining heavily. ( how was the rain yesterday?) It was raining heavily.
3- Os coelhos correm rapidamente ( rabbits run rapidly)
**** the question here is How do rabbits run? they run rapidamente.
Don't forget the rules that you will be able to transform verbs and adjective into adverbs of manner.

Diagraphs in Portuguese NH CH LH
The purpose of this podcast is to teach you the sounds of our diagraphs, which we don`t have in English words, and this can be a big challenge.
Diagraphs are a combination of 2 letters with only one sound, it can be at the beginning, middle, or end of words.
1- words written with LH, - toalha, orelha, mulher, olho, milho, bilhete, telha. Try using the word Lea(name of woman), it sounds the same.
2-words with CH - chave, cheiro, chinelo, mochila, cachorro, chuva, sanduíche. To be able to pronounce them say sheeee. Now try each of them.
3-words with NH - cunhada, aranha, sonho, dinheiro, caminho, banho, banheiro. try saying "in a". Now apply this sound to be able to pronounce them.
If you need more lessons like that one, let me know either on my Youtube channel or Instagram.
