On Sunday, Matt Larson continued in our series on the Book of John through chapter 3. In the passage, we see that some of John the Baptist’s disciples came to him with the concern that people were now following Jesus instead of John. John’s response is an example to us today, he said that just like a best man at a wedding leads people to see the groom, all he was there to do was point people to Jesus. Similarly for us today as followers of Jesus, our job is to lead people to Jesus and stand aside.

To live out mission we should be doing three things: open up our lives to those who don’t know Jesus and invite them in, listen to their stories and discover how the gospel is good news for them, and share what we have seen and experienced God do in our lives.

On Sunday we started a new series called “This Is Anthem,” where each week we will teach through one of our core values. We have been set free to do the good and merciful will of God in the midst of a contentious world, and Jesus is with us in the fire. Even if doing good in a contentious world leads to suffering, Jesus is with us. He has not left us and he will not leave us. He is with us and in us. With that reality, we can have hope no matter how dark the world gets.

We see that God sent Gabriel to Daniel to give him a message and timeline of when He would send the Messiah and ultimately He would put an end to sin.

In chapter 2 of Daniel, we see that Nebuchadnezzar had a dream and asked for interpretation of it. Because Daniel continued to trust in God, when the call came to him, Daniel was able to give it. Though he was threatened with death, Daniel was faithful to give the king the interpretation that God gave him. Nebuchadnezzar's kingdom was temporary and God would ultimately replace it with his kingdom. When we are faithful, God gives us the opportunity to be more faithful and strengthens us to live by faith.

Last Sunday was our Vision Sunday, the main theme flowing out of it was as followers of Jesus we are exiles in this world. This should shape not only our understanding of our place in our neighborhoods and cities, but also how and why we live the way we do. This year we are going to press into this reality and will have key moments throughout the year to teach into this and to help us to live it out.

When we look at how Jesus saw the scriptures we see that Jesus loved the scriptures, that He taught they were inspired by God, that He is the fulfillment of the scriptures, and that He is the centerpiece of the scriptures.

In our second week of our "This is Anthem" series, Andy Rodgers from Restored Church: Uptown preached on our value of being a church that is shaped by and cultivates the Ephesians 4 gifts of apostles, prophets, evangelists, shepherds, and teachers.

This Sunday we started a new series called “This is Anthem,” where we are going through our church’s values. Matt preached on our value of being “gospel centered” as a church. The gospel is the good news of Jesus. He became flesh, died for our sins, and resurrected, thereby defeating death. Our goal is to have our whole lives centered on the gospel. If we are going to be people of the gospel then we will have a deep joy in Jesus, love people, be gospel fluent, and repent regularly.
