Reddit Stories - Gang Showers 1

In celebration of this show's 9th season kicking off, I bring you a new series that I will do periodically throughout the year. Reddit Stories, will be actual messages posted on a public forum about various subjects of interest. In this first episode, I offer 4 stories from Reddit readers, about gang showers; in school, at work, and in gym facilities. In future Reddit Stories episodes, I will comment on each one. I did not in this due to difficulty in talking.

End of Year Review

Every year at this time I like to look back on the concluding year and determine what I did, or what happened, to advance me towards the goals I have in life. I dissect what I feel was important to the advancement of my goals, as well as what specifically did NOT work or what needs to change. With that decided, I then plan out some goals for 2024.This is the concluding episode of Season 8 of An Older Gay Guy Show.

Christmas STORYTIME - 'The Redemption of Ebenezer Scrooge'

In this penultimate episode of Season 8, I have used AI to create an original, emotional telling of 'A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens. With some voice acting and sound effects, I read you this famous story, my favorite of all-time. Please listen while relaxing in the days leading up to Christmas. Listen on a quiet night, perhaps with a roaring fire or sitting beneath the lights of your Christmas tree. This story says something to all, not just those of a 'Christian faith', but to all of mankind that strive to be better and make amends to those who we perceive have done us wrong. A Merry Christmas to all......

Christmas Piano Music

In this episode, I offer some of my piano arrangements for your use in any gathering where you might want some background music. A bit about my style of arrangements: I very much like dissonant sounds. Dissonance refers to a lack of harmony. Dissonant music sometimes makes people feel a bit uneasy. Because of this feeling, dissonant music is often used to create tension in films. In the last 10 years or so, I have used dissonance in many of my arrangements because of the unique sound. Not everyone will be a fan of this music, but it is what I am currently working on and I thought I would share it.This album contains:The Christmas Song - pianoDo You Hear What I Hear - pianoAll Alone Am I - pianoI'll Be Home For Christmas - pianoTheme from Knots Landing TV Show - piano, strings and percussionSilent Night - pianoEmpty Chairs At Empty Tables (from Les Miserables) - pianoTheme from Seattle TV Show - piano and stringsFrosty The Snowman - pianoI hope you enjoy the album. Thankfully the thoughts I had during this time are far behind me, but I've never forgotten the things I learned during these very difficult days. I hope this helps someone.

STORYTIME - Campfire Stories - 'After Football'

This is the final episode of my 2023 Sweeps Period and it is a STORYTIME that served as a working model for my book 'Northridge High Football Camp'. I wrote this story in 1992 and I copyrighted it in 1994. If you are a fan of the Jockstrap Stories podcast, you may recognize many of the characteristics of the main protagonist in this story that ended up being part of the character development of Vinnie Manta, the main protagonist in 'Northridge High Football Camp'. I also used some of the description when I created the character of Tony Marino. This story was part of a planned series called Campfire Stories. I will probably continue with that series in the future.Don't miss the FINAL LIVE Pride48 Streaming Weekend. This is it! STORYTIME - The College Jock

Welcome to Sweeps Period 2023 !  In this first episode, I give you one of my favorite stories that took place when I was 16 years old. I found the memories of what happened in this story to be something that gave me fantasies for many years. Two college jocks lived in an apartment directly across from my boyfriend's apartment, and one particular night I wanted to entertain myself with a devious plot that only a horny 16 year-old could come up with. If you enjoy 'An Older Gay Guy Show' podcast and would like to show your support, I ask you to take five minutes to vote for me in the 2023 People's Choice Podcast Awards. STORYTIME - Crazy Sh*t at The Boston Conservatory of Music

Welcome! Today I have a STORYTIME episode with 3 true-life short stories about my time at The Boston Conservatory of Music.  These take place in the 1970's, and as you shall see, it was a VERY different time in the world. I think you will find these tales funny and a bit shocking! The 3 stories are titled:1.   The Asshole Conductor2.   The Dance Belt Adjustment3.   The Orgy Ring-LeaderThere is also a 4th STORYTIME about my second year at The Conservatory when I was a Musical Theater major. You will find this story almost unbelievable, and what happened would not only never be allowed today, but it would result in numerous lawsuits, and probably an indictment to the teacher. The link to An Older Gay Guy Show on YouTube can be found below.Link:  The Drama Teacher's Underwear

STORYTIME - Balls Coming At My Face & A Castle in the Woods

A double episode of two short stories. The first is a funny experience I had just a few days ago while walking to the store, and the second part is a fascinating story about a real-life castle that was near my house when I was growing up. This residence was literally a full castle, with turrets, parapets and towers and as construction of the main castle was completed, the owner dug a moat, with plans to fill it with water and connect the working drawbridge. It was amazing, and I put some photos of the castle on 'An Older Gay Guy Show Facebook Page'.Here is the link:  An Older Gay Guy Show Facebook Page

For Your Entertainment

This will be a shorter episode and it is for your entertainment. I hope. This is going to be a few pieces of music that I have been working on writing the arrangements and I have recorded these songs from various groups. The first is a rendition of Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen, and this is my own arrangement performed by a choir. The second is an arrangement for the harp, played by me, and it is When You Wish Upon A Star from Disney. The third is a rendition of Scat Singing, a jazz method and this is a well-known tv theme song that I’m sure you will recognize. This is done by a small group. The 4th is a new arrangement I am working on of When I Was Seventeen, played by me on my baby grand piano. And the last piece is a version of Empty Chairs at Empty Tables, from Les Mis, performed by me again, on my baby grand. Please listen to the end of this show, as it is quite important. So please, relax, have a glass wine or other beverage of your choice, and I hope you enjoy it.

Gay-to-Gay Bullying

A theme I have done before, but it deserves more attention. With many believing there exists a fracture in the Gay Community due to lack of physical socializing because so many bars and clubs have closed, it becomes more important that we watch out for each other. That includes the prevailing gay-to-gay bullying that has only increased with the advent of the internet. Let's pause for a few minutes to understand how this type of behavior is more prominent when we are with our friends and within our own  cliques. Can we stop behaviors that prey on weaker people within the community when we might think we are being funny and clever?

Stories That Touch the Heart 1

This is a new segment that I am going to do every now and then. The news has such negative, depressing stories that sometimes I think we just need a break from it. Therefore this series will be uplifting stories with a slant towards tales with older adults. I hope that they give you the same warm feeling that they have given to me as I prepared this episode. Thank you so much for joining me today. This Sunday will be the reveal of the Finalist Slate for the 2022 Podcast Awards. How Do We Hold The Senior Gay Community Together ?

As we slowly start putting society back together as we all get vaccinated for Covid-19, the Senior Gay Community is something we all need to think about and work at sustaining.  Many older gay men have been isolated during these past 13 months and are now rightfully feeling hesitant about re-joining social situations where crowds might soon be gathering. How will our older LGBTQ brothers and sisters still get together for much needed friendships and reunions, and what will be the lasting community be like?

Your Personal Trainer - Part 1

Today I am starting a new series that I'm calling Your Personal Trainer.  I often hear from guys that have basic workout and nutrition questions. I know hiring a Personal Trainer can be an expensive proposition, especially with the fees that will probably have to be charged by Trainers to compensate for all the lost work and income due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. So, with that in mind, I thought running this series can be beneficial to those that wish they could have a Personal Trainer to give them basic information and to do what Trainers do best; Motivate and Encourage you, as you go along. Obviously without having the option to work with you in person, it will limit how some of this training will have to be. But, I have faith that the information and me kicking your ass a bit will help you at least get started eating healthier and getting you to move! I will give you some basic at home exercises to do down the road a bit, and there will also be more advanced exercises that will have to be done in a gym, for those of you desiring these programs. So, no matter your experience, from absolute beginners (my favorite guys!) to the more advanced training, there will be something for everyone. I truly hope you enjoy these episodes and that you will participate so we all can get these Pandemic Pounds off so we can enjoy a beautiful, active Summer. My best to all of you!  ~Joey

I See Dead People - Part 2 - How to Embalm a Body

In Part 2 of my 'I See Dead People' series, I thought it would be a good idea to tell you about what exactly happens when a body is embalmed.  As we age, we will encounter the need to make arrangements for funerals, as well as visit them as a friend or relative.  Should it fall on you to make the funeral arrangements, do you know what a loved one would really like for their final disposition? If you have no guidance by written wishes, you will need to make decisions that are difficult within a set amount of time to get all the arrangements in place. Embalm or Cremation? What does each really mean?I hope that this explanation will allow you to make a more informed decision. This episode is very graphic and deals with procedures done to the body.

Let's Write A Novel - Part 1

Have you ever dreamed of writing the Great American (or wherever) Novel? Have you ever read a book and was disappointed and said 'Hey I could have written that better'? Well, here is your chance. Most of us are still locked up in our homes and have done just about everything to occupy our time. This is the PERFECT time to try out your writing skills. This episode (and Part 2 coming in a couple weeks) discusses my own method for writing my gay sports novel 'Northridge High Football Camp' and it's sequel 'The Guys of Northridge'. I can't say how other authors have produced their work, but the method that I used I think is a very learnable technique. So why not give it a try? In this Part 1, I talk about the genre of your book, about establishing your main characters and creating milestone scenes to bring your characters toward the conclusion of your story.

Is Cheating The Price We Have To Pay To Have A Relationship?

So many gay men have to deal with their boyfriend/partner/husband cheating on them. Sometimes it takes years to find out, and by then you might have gotten legally married, bought a house together, co-mingled bank accounts and/or adopted children together. When your lives are so entwined, the discovery of one of you cheating can be devastating to the other. Is monogamy realistic? Can you re-build trust after being lied to? Is a cheater always a cheater? In this episode I tell you a story from my own experience with a cheating boyfriend. I also read to you an email from a guy who is at wits end on what to do with his husband who may be cheating on him. I also asked a question of an online Gay Over 40 group, if they had been cheated on, were there tell-tale signs. I read you their responses. This is always a difficult subject and is the continuation of an ongoing discussion about gay relationships.

I See Dead People - Part 1

Part One of a Two-Part Series on my experiences as a Funeral Director and Embalmer.  This is an insider's look into what happens when a person dies. One of the reasons I wanted to do this series is that I wanted to let you know what happens behind the scenes and ways that you could save money when you have to arrange a funeral. This episode will be of interest to many of you, as we are all aging. Sometimes we have to do things we don't want to do, especially if we have elderly family members, or even yourself with pre-arrangements. I wanted to make that easier for you and give you some tips that will give you information that will be useful under those circumstances. Plus, it's just fascinating stuff ! For those who get grossed out easily, embalming stuff will be in Part 2, so no worries about this episode.

INTERVIEW - Officer Ron, Gay Prison Guard - Part 1

Sweeps Period 2019 begins with a fascinating Interview Show with Officer Ron Odion, a retired, Gay Prison Guard who worked in a State Penitentiary in Santa Fe, New Mexico for 24 years. In a 3-part episode arc, Officer Ron gives us a glimpse into the true-life workings of a prison: the guards, the prisoners and the many facets of activities that make up the Correctional System. Officer Ron tells us of his experiences in the Training Academy and how he was treated, and tells us stories of what is was like to be a gay man in this testosterone-fueled climate. Vacationing Alone

Many of us older gay guys are single, and as we age, we might lose contact with friends through relocation, illness, death, arguments; a host of reasons. And that can lead to isolation and eventual depression.  One of the ways that I have dealt with loneliness over the years, is that I learned how to travel by myself and enjoy the experiences many times more than if I had a traveling companion. Now traveling alone for some, is a very strange concept. Why would you want to be alone? Isn't the point of traveling to be able to enjoy the location, sights, dinners, memories etc. with someone else? Maybe. But what if you don't have a boyfriend/husband or friends that want to travel to some of the exotic places you always dreamed of going? Should you wait until you have a partner to travel with? (We aren't getting any younger!) Or, do we have to give up on ever going to those places? I want to tell you about a few of my experiences with circling the globe alone and the self-sufficiency I learned along the way.

Why Are Young Gay Guys Such Dickwads ?

As always, this is based on my opinions and my experience. I hope it can prompt some thoughts. INTERVIEW - The Latest in Cosmetic Work for Guys with Kris Venezia - Part Two

This year's Sweeps Period concludes with the 2nd Part of my conversation with Kris Venezia about what is new in the areas of cosmetic work available for guys. This is not a suggestion or endorsement for you to run out and get cosmetic work, but for many older guys, especially those who have suffered from the effects of HIV and the powerful drugs that are taken to keep it at bay, this information is important. With some, it could even be life-saving, as the depression and isolation people often feel can take its toll on the psyche. In this second half, we discuss Cool Sculpting, Gastric Bypass and Hair Pieces (and those in Hollywood that wear them!) So sit back and enjoy this insider's look at the world of cosmetic work. ** This Sunday, September 30, 2018, is International Podcast Day and will be the announcement of the Winners of the 13th Annual People's Choice Podcast Awards. Self-Doubt vs. Confidence - Impostor Syndrome

At the request of a listener from British Columbia, Canada regarding his self-doubt as he takes a new position running a sports team, we look at two self-esteem philosophies: The Peter Principle and Impostor Syndrome. Now while these theories can be viewed as a negative source of esteem, when coupled with a more applicable and positive method of coping with self-esteem that we talk about in the second half of today's episode, we can assess our self-doubt easier when looking at this subject from various points of view. The episode concludes with a basic tenant of success that we can all apply in times of indecision and uncertainty. A Vintage TV Trivia Question is posed at the start of the show and the answer is given in the concluding minutes of the podcast. Thanks so much for joining me today ! - Joey

This episode is my personal experiences and opinions. Do not view this as any kind of therapy or professional guidance. If you feel you are depressed or if you ever have suicidal thoughts, please seek out professional help.
