Ijeoma is based in Seattle, and she is the author of the New York Times Best-Seller, So You Want to Talk about Race, published by Seal Press. She was named one of The Root’s 100 Most Influential African Americans in 2017. Ijeoma is the winner of the of the 2018 Feminist Humanist Award by the American Humanist Society.If you’re not familiar with her works, she focuses on issues of race and identity, feminism, social and mental health, social justice, and the arts. Her writing has been featured in The Washington Post, NBC News, Elle Magazine, TIME, The Stranger, and The Guardian, among other outlets. At the age of 24 she had the most amazing opportunity to work for the biggest tech company in the world. Once she arrived she realised very soon that she would be 1 of 1. Mercedes wanted to see other people like herself in boardrooms and in the ideation meetings. To solve this problem, Mercedes founded Social Fixt which uses social media to list jobs in the creative industry in the Facebook group and on the website. She also hosts events that encourage the BAME community to 'know their worth'.I caught up with Mercedes at Red Bull Amaphiko to get the tea on how she finds the team to do it all and then some. In today’s episode Keke and I talk about what she does to look after herself when she’s on set- so if you’ve got a busy lifestyle, be sure to take notes! Coral is also a visiting lecturer at Central School of Speech and Drama. I wanted to interview Coral because chances are just like you, I’d never heard of a movement director before and I was intrigued as to how one finds themselves in the job so of course, I find out how Coral got started. We find out how to pick the projects you should say yes to for developing your career. As well as wrapping up on challenges and obstacles you might expect if you decide to follow in her footsteps.I’ve learned so much and it was kind of unexpected. Before becoming Mayor he held a number of positions including Minister of State for Communities in 2008, Minister of State for Transport, Shadow Secretary of State for Justice, Shadow Lord Chancellor and Shadow Minister for London. He was elected Mayor of London at the 2016 mayoral election, winning by the largest number of votes in one election of any politician in British history.In today’s episode the Mayor will show you how to look at the glass as half full, he shares how he handles the responsibility and subsequent blame when tragedy strikes. He reveals whether women and other BAME individuals should run for London Mayor and finally is it ever worth poshing up your voice to get ahead in politics or for any job really.We jump in with the Mayor sharing where he thought he’d end up in life if he wasn’t the Mayor.It’s not an easy job at all to be the Mayor but I personally feel very inspired by how optimistic and positive Sadiq was about the job and his overall commitment to helping others fulfil their potential. Ijeoma is based in Seattle, and she is the author of the New York Times Best-Seller, So You Want to Talk about Race, published by Seal Press. She was Named one of The Root’s 100 Most Influential African Americans in 2017, one of the Most Influential People in Seattle by Seattle Magazine, one of the 50 Most Influential Women in Seattle by Seattle Met. Ijeoma is the winner of the of the 2018 Feminist Humanist Award by the American Humanist Society. If you’re not familiar with her works, she focuses on issues of race and identity, feminism, social and mental health, social justice, and the arts. Her writing has been featured in The Washington Post, NBC News, Elle Magazine, TIME, The Stranger, and the Guardian, among other outlets. India is incredibly high-achieving, professing that she did not take a break from full-time education until she decided to enter the Miss India America pageant. We talk about the stigma around pageants and the brains vs. beauty argument that comes up time and time again. What stuck out about my conversation India is how important her faith is to her. She is a practising Hindu and has credited the religion (and Sathya Sai Baba Bal Vikas Education) with instilling her core values. As you'll hear, India has made some bold moves in her life and her career in order to get to where she wants to be. It's Self-Care Awareness Week (13th-19th Nov) and this week I'm joined by the Founder of The World of Self-Care, Georgia Dodsworth. In this week's episodes Georgia shares her journey with Borderline Personality Disorder and becoming a successful freelancer while still at university studying Performance and Creative Enterprise.
