Life is precious, and for John, its value is clearly seen in what God has done in sending His Son, Jesus. It's a message, a truth, and a transformation you cannot ignore.

One builds wall while the other tears them down. Few emotions have the power to control us like this duo. When fear reigns, our lives become small, dark, and anxiety-ridden, but when we allow love to reign, fear doesn't stand a chance.

Knowledge is power and nothing is more powerful than truth. It helps you navigate life with wisdom while exposing what's really lurking behind the shadows.

Just as our weather apps give alerts of oncoming storms, the Bible alerts us to a different kind of storm. One that does more than just threaten our physical well-being but targets our faith and spiritual health.

It is said that love is blind, but what if the opposite is true? What if a lack of love is what makes us truly blind? And because we are blind, our world spirals into a never-ending cycle of darkness and enmity.

We are often a reflection of the experiences that have impacted us the most. In this message, a beloved disciple makes a proclamation from a heart that has been forever changed.

There's no doubt that disruptions make us feel helpless and out of control. What once felt reliable and safe is now questionable. As the ground shifts under out feet, out ability to recover and feel balance returning is to lean into a strength that never waivers.

It is only normal to feel us bracing for the worse when major disruptions come. It activates our fears, making us lose any sense of equilibrium. It's in moments of uncertainty where we are driven to rely on the only thing that matters.

Disruptions can make us feel like things will never be as good as they once were. We can feel defeated and deflated with very little fight left. Moving forward can seem like it will take more energy than we can muster. 

Of all the disciples, no one stands out like this one when it comes to expressing doubt and pessimism. But in the end, he makes one of the grandest proclamations on the person of Jesus in all of Scripture.

Of the 12 disciples, there are 2 who remain silent in the pages of Scripture. though we have nothing recorded, their lives nevertheless are not a total mystery.

For questions posed by a disciple, it sometimes meant a moment of clarification from Jesus. Here, to the surprise of this disciple, Jesus answers with a promise filled with hope.

First reactions are not always themost positive. In the case of thisdisciple, his initial response turnedinto a welcomed mistake.(A look at Nathanael/Bartholomew)

There were times when the disciples struggled with what they were learning from Jesus. It prompted questions and, in this instance, became an opportunity for Jesus to teach a deeper truth.

Judas, a name once associated with greatness, suddenly becomes synonymous with traitor. How one persons personal failure became a tragedy for the ages.

A man who shares an important discovery with his brother and because of it, neither are ever the same again.

What parent doesn't want the best for their children? In this message we are introduced to two brothers whose mom made an appeal to Jesus. the lesson from her request became one of the foundational lessons for all the disciples.

What if we saw others through their potential and not their history or resume? In an amazing encounter, Jesus enlists a most unexpected follower.

Healthy spirituality gives us the ability to withstand the difficulties and trials that are part of life. Many have been left in tatters by believing in a faith with shallow roots and hollow trunks. In this concluding message we find the source for spiritual health that withstands the storms of life.

Being spiritually healthy demands the ability to assess reality. It’s not to say that it is always easy, but part of seeing the world as it truly is, is understanding what contributes to derailing us. 

 It is one of the most important functions of a church, even though it can sometimes be difficult to define or even recognize. Still, it is one of the hallmarks of a vibrant community of faith. 

1 Corinthians 9:19-27 In times of uncertainty, there is one principle that can make the difference between hope and despair. It not only applies on an individual level, but also to the church as a whole

 It is suppose to be part of our Christian experience but it can leave us confused and frustrated. We think it should be straightforward and work in a particular way but often find that it works in ways that we can rarely predict. Regardless, it is vital to our spiritual health. 

There is no denying the importance of reading and understanding the Bible. It’s centrality to the Christian faith cannot be underestimated. But why is it important and why do I need to know what it teaches?

How would you end this sentence? We are better_________! In this message we look at one word that seems so out of place, especially in this present season, but serves as a well-timed reminder.

Galatians 5:22-23 The strength of our character lies in our inner formation. Without it, what people see is only a mask of our true self. 

To the casual observer, these are most often the characteristics that catch the attention and admiration of others.

In the ongoing struggle for self-improvement, the first three Fruits of the Spirit can prove to be the most difficult to maintain. 

Victory comes in many forms, but few as dramatic as a resurrection.

A suffering Messiah was difficult for most to comprehend. It became the biggest stumbling block even though it was an important aspect of the Messiah's mission.

Jesus' favourite title for Himself was carefully taken from prophetic passages in the Old Testament. To His audience, just hearing it would mean that Jesus was claiming something extraordinary.

 A difficult season is upon us and in the midst of closures, social distancing and being told what we cannot do, the days ahead look bleak and without promise. It's in these moments where we need to be reminded of what God says we can do and why it makes all the difference, even in a season such as this.

Advice is everywhere. Gurus and self-help icons are the new priests heralding a new world. One where the pursuit of happiness is the only value worth pursuing.

 We live in unprecedented times that few of us could have foreseen even a mere month ago. In the midst of the uncertainty and questions we need to be reminded of where our hope and courage lies and why it's so important to embrace our faith now more than ever. 

 It's the new mantra of the age; being busy. It conveys an air of self-importance and a life of purpose and intent. It's no surprise then, to find out that burn-out and stress is also at an all-time high. 

We are more polarized than ever, It's not acceptable to just disagree any more, now you have to attack anyone who doesn't hold to every condition of your worldview. In turn, it's virtually impossible for any of us to get along.

In a culture of more, the ones who appear to have more also appear to have it all. In a contest rooted in envy, the constant race to accumulate creates a false reality built with false hopes.

 Identity is a big deal today. Without clarity in this area, most default to identity that is related to profession, preference, or passion, any of which can leave us empty when they are gone. 

There is a danger when we see life as nothing more than disconnected pieces. It can leave us wondering if any kind of purpose can be found and throw doubt on obedience to God or to righteous living. 

We wonder if the roller coaster will ever stop and give us a chance to catch our breath. Life can throw us off balance and make us wonder if any kind of equilibrium is even possible?

Loss is a painful experience. Few experiences throw us into darkness like loss, and the emotional toll can make us feel as if normalcy is a distant reality.

None of us can escape it, even though we would never invite it into our lives. Oddly enough, it is what bonds every human being together while teaching us the value of compassion and mercy.

For most, faith has an unwelcomed companion. We didn't expect it to become a lifelong partner, but there it is, nudging from the sidelines trying to get our attentions through its constant nagging.

Peace is for many, an elusive state. In the midst of our broken world lies the potential to experience lasting peace.

God is not a temporary benefit, or a maker of promises that last only for a season. As they say, hope springs eternal when it comes to the promises of God.

 To say the God is mighty, is to evoke the images of not only the Creation story, but of every instance where God reigned victorious. 

The first depiction of Jesus as Wonderful Counselor, is a characteristic that highlights the power of God-inspired wisdom.

We can be many things to many people, and we can sometimes soar and sometimes flounder, but through it all, We Are the CHURCH!

 There are times when we are met with hopelessness and despair. In God’s economy, though, there is always room for new beginnings that point to boundless hope. 

 Truth and tolerance are rarely teamed together, especially when Christians are in view.  As intolerance and hatred grow, so does the attacks against believers. 

Certain topics have the potential to be divisive, none more so than claiming exclusive rights to truth. How do we manage this volatile subject yet still proclaim the truth?

We all know what it's like when on the receiving end of timely gift. few things speak louder about a church's commitment than its capacity to give.

Building into the lives of people can be so rewarding, especially when it results in growth that is spiritually healthy.

Membership does have its privileges, but also its responsibilities. To serve is to project the hands and feet of Jesus.

The Church is many things to many people, but at its core, its only about one message.

Underlying the entire premise of the Church is this one reality; that God so loved the world.

Age can sometimes be a detractor, a liability depending on the importance of the responsibility. Timothy, a disciple of the apostle Paul, heroically forges into the mantle of leadership at a time when his age was seen as a problem.

 Sometimes God calls us to drastic situations.  In what seemed like a hopeless cycle, God called a man that no one was looking at, to deliver the entire nation from slavery. 

 There are times when we are so compelled by an injustice we are tempted to act.  But some things are so daunting many will simply give up and say it's beyond fixing.  Nehemiah, in true heroic fashion, shows how one person can move a mountain. 

Sometimes, being a hero is forced upon you. You are faced with a situation that unless you act, the consequences could be disastrous. In those moments, heroes are made and cowards are exposed. In this message, Esther's heroism leads to a nations deliverance.   

Ruth is one of the Bible's most endearing books, primarily because of its portrayal of covenantal love. Her heroic faith set in motion the next generation of God's plan.

Rahab, a woman whose life choices would not have classified her as a hero. Yet, when it mattered most, she became a catalyst for God.

For every mountain there is a valley. In this message we look at the character and nature of God as he cares for one of his prophets at the lowest point in his life.

Grace is a funny thing. When we see it showered on others we often respond in judgment or anger. In Jonah's case, he becomes the poster boy for a people who had forgotten their reason for existence and the grace that was once showered on them.

When Jonah finally gets his act together, his obedience produces incredible results. As is often the case, obeying God can lead to some of the most significant moments in our life.

Sometimes God will use the most extreme circumstances to get our attention. In Jonah’s case, his disobedience required a drastic response from God, one that brought Jonah face to face with his own mortality.

This service is a Celebration Sunday. As a church we reserve these Sunday's to celebrate all that God is doing in the life of Village Green Community Church. From baptisms, Parental Dedications, to memberships and honouring volunteers, these are moments we schedule to pause and thank God. 

Jonah demonstrates the ultimate flight response when he receives a mission directive from god. As a prophet, he forgot the most basic truth of all, you simply can't run away from God.

Legacy is a word that has the potential to bring the cringe factor.  Why bring up legacy?  Why dedicate a Sunday to it?  The apostle Paul calls us to be legacy builders, and this is a call that not only are we all able to be a part of, but we should be striving towards it.

Mark 15:1-15What motivates us to wish harm on others? Even though we may feel justified, it takes a toll on us personally. When envy is allowed to control our actions, we get stuck in a destructive pattern.

 Sometimes the greatest impediment is the way we view the world around us. We can hold so tightly to our views that we miss the cage we’ve constructed for ourselves. Getting unstuck means leaning into God’s grace. 

Sometimes we are faced with a situation that leaves us infuriated. In that moment, the prospect of seeing things clearly is greatly diminished. We know that cooler heads often prevail, and with it the opportunity to get unstuck.

Grow. Jesus spoke in such a way that left people awestruck.They either embraced his message or felt threatened by it. His death, burial, and resurrection confirmed the truth he proclaimed and ignited a movement that took the world by storm. Become. Jesus left us a community that grew, not because of what they stood for, but because of what they believed. The reality of their faith emboldened them to live beyond complacency but to seek excellence in community and service. Hooked on a Feeling. Love is the emotion intended to govern our best intentions. Do we really understand the potential of love and why do we try so hard to harness it?

Alter or Altar? Is love a path to prison or to freedom? Love is often a reflection of our personal experience and nothing scares us more than the demands that love can place on us. Ephesians 5:21-33

Love In-Tension. Is love purely a human response to biological impulses or is there something more? 2 John 1:3-6; John 1:17

The Pillars of Love. Biblical love is built upon some foundational pillars. Understanding them is vital for understanding not only ourselves, but God as well. Matt 22:36-40, 1 Cor 13:1-3

Always Remember. We often live in relation to the certainty of our beliefs. What if God was unwilling to gamble in order to give us certainty through the resurrection of Jesus? 2 Timothy 2:8-10

Palm Sunday. Jesus rides into Jerusalem on a donkey, because God has a greater purpose and plan than our own expectations. John 12:12-19

Escape Route. As believers, we treat the promise of freedom in Christ as freedom from sin, but what if it includes freedom from the bondage of others?

Naming It. Are there signs we are in a system of spiritual abuse? Can we know when we’re entering into a potential danger zone? Ephesians 5:11-17

Distortion. There exists an ongoing battle inside each of us. Somewhere between the darkness pulling us back and the light calling us forward, we wrestle with a distorted view of God. Ephesians 5:8-10

Seeing Clearly. Jesus had harsh words for the religious leaders of his day. What made him so angry and what can we learn about the nature of destructive spiritual abuse? Matthew 23:1-12; 28-30

Popular culture depicts angels as little cherubs with tiny wings. The biblical picture is dramatically different. What are the key characteristics of the angels as it relates to the unseen realm?

Touch Me. Life with others is messy, especially when their needs become overwhelming. What does life at 3mph teach us about trusting God, having faith, and caring for others? Mark 5:21-43

Staking a Claim. There are times we look back upon and wish we had recognized the gravity of moment. History is often shaped in a moment, but seldom are the implications understood until years later. The same is true about the life and ministry of Jesus. Many who heard him struggled in the moment, yet over the years, his life has transformed our world. Luke 4:16-22

More Than a Name. He wasn’t even born yet when his name appeared on the prophetic timetable. Years later, he became the catalyst for something only a few thought possible. Ezra 1:1-3

And the Winner is… We are all subject to being judged and measured by others. It’s a reflection of our common tendency to judge a book by its cover as the saying goes. Is there a better measurement, one that truly gets to the heart of who we are? 1 Samuel 16:1-13

Out of the Fire. A single moment can change us in an instant. It can propel us into a whole new life, complete with feelings of fear and anxiety. How do we manage moments that force us into places we were never expecting to visit? Exodus 3:1-15

No Way Out. Certain moments become touch points that shape the rest of our lives. They instantly change everything. In this message we look at one of those moments, told in the life of Abraham. Genesis 22:1-19

John writes a personal letter to a dear friend that gives a glimpse into life in a first century church. He acknowledges that the church is filled with imperfect and needy people, but what is more important is the hope that Jesus provides. He gives the ability for people to live authentically and rise above hurt and frustration because they are walking in truth and love, and they live in the reality of the joy of face to face fellowship with one another. Indeed, these are the roots of our authenticity.

John, in the shortest letter of the New Testament, has much to say to us about truth and love and staying Mission Critical. This week we begin with and are reminded not to forget our roots.

What causes the most tension when sharing your faith? How they will respond or the insecurity you feel within yourself? Sharing our faith is not only commanded, but also the one vehicle for ensuring the future of the church. In this message we look at ways to share that take the intimidation and stress out of the equation.

Just Say It. Sharing our faith is tough for most of us, especially when the word on the street about Christians is not always flattering. In this message we look at ways to best manage the tension and allow the heart of the Gospel to be heard. Romans 10:14-17

Gone Fishing. Some opportunities we leap at with excitement and anticipation, while others we are slow to move on and take advantage of. Why is that? Today's bible passage is about two men who did not hesitate to embrace the opportunity of a lifetime. Their decision has a lot to teach us about what to do when Jesus opens the door to opportunity. Mark 1:16-20

In a world of constant change, God's love remains the same. It is dependable in and out of every season. It is steady in the good times and the bad. If you are looking for stability, or searching for something to hold onto that won't let you down or let you go...look no further than God's relentless love. Psalm 136

What do we do when our plans turns to dust? For one, we tend to jettison the thoughts of a hopeful future and even begin to ridicule our own dreams. Somewhere in the mix we may even begin to doubt if God cares. In this message we learn that in the midst of darkness and shattered plans, something else is likely being birthed. Jeremiah 29:4-14

One Another. We are told as believers that we need to grow? As Followers of Jesus, our lives should not be static, but an ever growing progression into the likeness of Christ. What should that growth look like and what does it primarily consist of? In this concluding message we look at a passage that sounds contradictory at first, but is in fact, the one dynamic that fuels our growth into fully formed disciples of Jesus. 1 John 2:7-8

Power Up. Is there a difference between being religious and being spiritual? One evokes a negative stereotype while the other portrays images of placid existence amid peaceful waters. Whatever label gets applied frames the way we come to understand the spiritual dimension. In this message we look at a passage that guides us in understanding the true nature of what is labeled as spiritual, and what we need in order to navigate this unseen realm. Ephesians 6:10-20

Secret Sauce. Acting like a Christian is much easier than reacting like one. Our responses often convey where we struggle most in our faith and beliefs. Nowhere is it truer than when we are suffering. Its in these moments that the essence of what we believe becomes the compass for how we live. In this message we look at a passage that guides us in our responses to life’s struggles, and how it will convey the one characteristic that makes others stand up and take notice. 1 Peter 3:13-17

Stumbling. We know that no human being is perfect. Yet, once we have been tagged as being religious we are suddenly expected to be perfect. We all stumble from time to time but does it mean that God cannot use us to touch others? In this message we look at a confrontation between two of the leaders in the early church, and what it can teach us about living by faith. Galatians 2:11-14

Mountaineers. Some consider it a leap in the dark, while others treat it as the remedy for sickness and poverty. Regardless, a life of faith can still be a life of difficulty. How then, do we manage the expectations that faith is a magic potion for curing all of life’s ills?In this message we look at a story where faith becomes the determining factor for one of Jesus’ miracles. Matthew 17:14-21

Everyone In. We don’t mean to do it, and in many ways we could claim we are being biblical. But if we are not careful, we have the potential to make one big mistake with the Gospel. In this message we look at an interaction Jesus had that illustrates how easily we can make this mistake. Matthew 9:9-13

Label. Branding, label, identity, it comes by many names, but to be a Cristian evokes many images. Is there one central label that should identify us all? Galatians 2:20-21

No Limit. In this Easter Sunday message, we discuss how the trial of Jesus continues to this day. He is on trial in the hearts and minds of every person who does not acknowledge his claims, all made real by the power of His resurrection. Matthew 28:11-15

Take No Chances. Good Friday casts a long shadow in the short life of Jesus. Unjustly tried and then crucified, the hope that he brought to a waiting world had been dashed upon a Roman cross. In this message we continue to look at the circumstances that prompted religious leaders to condemn a perfect man. Matthew 27:62-66

Push. In this message, we discuss the injustice of the trial that proclaimed Jesus to be guilty. In the process we discover some of the sacrifices we often make when we push ahead with our own plans without stopping to consider the plan of God. Mark 14:53-65

I Am Not. In this opening message we see how one false idea can lead to dogma and ultimately lead to trouble. What blinds us to truth starts sooner than we think. John 1:19-21

Why. If the church is the hope of the world, why does it struggle in so many areas? In this message we learn the one key the church needs to reclaim. Luke 19:10/John 3:17

Transformational. The strength to face every challenge in life, especially with Christ-like power, requires more than we can manage on our own, but as we learned last week, the Holy Spirit is the power and presence of God. One of the difficult truths about life is that trouble and hardship come to us all. We cannot escape the brokenness. And yet, in the face of great trouble, Jesus calls us to take heart because he has overcome the world. In Jesus, we cannot escape the greatness of God. John 3:22-31 and Matthew 11:1-6.

Just before His death and resurrection, Jesus met with his disciples for the Passover meal. But before they ate, Jesus did something unforgettable, He washed their dirty feet. The church. Whether you love it or hate it, it is an integral part of God’s plan for the world. Though it was established by Jesus and given a specific purpose and mission, we can sometimes forget what Christ prescribed and create churches in our own image. Especially when it comes to worship.

We have spent the last few weeks talking about brokenness, both in the world around us and in our personal lives.
