Today, I’m sitting down with MaryJo McCloskey—known in the golf world as Coach MJ—who runs through six topics that will help you elevate your golf performance, all based on her book “When Girls Win”. Coach MJ’s writing journey began in the throes of the COVID-19 pandemic and was fueled by a compelling desire to empower others with the wisdom gleaned from over two decades of coaching. 107. The Transition from Baseball & Softball to Golfer with Milo Lines

I’m sitting down with golf instructor Milo Lines to dissect the mechanics behind a powerful golf swing by extracting valuable lessons from Milo’s other favorite sport, baseball. We tackle the intricate balance of body rotation and weight shift that is at the heart of generating power in both sports. Milo gives us a unique perspective on the challenges baseball players face when transitioning to golf, especially when it comes to managing hand movement and clubface control. We also unpack those strengths from athletes of other sports like hockey and how anyone can put these lessons to work in elevating their golf game. About Milo Lines: Milo Lines was a standout baseball player in his early years, but due to an elbow injury, his dreams of playing in the big leagues were dashed. After a bit of coaxing from his father, he decided to pick up the game of golf. After graduating from Utah Valley University, Milo turned professional and played full-time on several tours. Since committing his time to coaching, he has also won several PGA section events and qualified to play in the PGA National Championship multiple times. He has been a PGA Professional since 2005 and joined the team at Superstition Mountain as a Golf Instructor in 2011. 104. Inside Look and Reflections on the VISION54 Golf Camp Experience

I’m sitting down with fellow VISION54 alumna Jenny to discuss how her golf journey found new life during the pandemic, eventually leading her to connect with us at The Royal Dublin during an unforgettable trip to Ireland. Jenny shares her transformative experience and key takeaways from the Three-Day VISION54 Human Skills Camp at Talking Stick Golf Club. “You’re not golfing to score,” Jenny says. “You’re golfing to feel.” She tells us right off the bat that the camp delves deep into mindset over swing technique, with a focus on the process over outcome, and the importance of balance, tempo, and tension as complementary to technique. We also talk about the intentional, well-structured schedule we went through at the camp, which gave us a great balance between drill time and interaction with our instructors and fellow students. Ultimately, the Human Skills Camp was an amazing opportunity for all of us to rediscover the joy of golf, regardless of experience and handicap index.   Book Your Golf Camp with VISION54: In-Person Coaching with VISION54   For more information on the California Crush Invitational, please visit CaliforniaCrushInvitational.com. Today we’re doing a deep dive into the intersection of technology and sports with golf ball experts Michael Fish, Senior Manager of Golf Ball Product Management and Matthew Hodge, Director of Product Development at Titleist. Listen in as they break down their cutting-edge Radar Capture Technology (RCT) and its transformative effect on indoor golf, helping you keep your game sharp even in the off-season. 91. Things I Didn’t Do to Become a Scratch Golfer with Michael Leonard

Michael Leonard from the Wicked Smart Podcast joins me once again to explain what he didn’t do to become a scratch golfer. Referring to going scratch as “the six-pack of golf”, Michael says that there’s no faking the journey to hitting that magical zero handicap. At the same time, there are commonly-accepted steps that one shouldn’t take to become a scratch golfer. Listen in as Michael dives deep into every one of these misconceptions, from the pitfalls of obsessing over mechanics, to routine and short swing misfires, to the silly mind games we play that do more harm than good out on the course. And don’t miss the tail-end of our conversation, where Michael gives his thoughts on the difference between a scratch player and a true scratch player. 89. Golf Wellness Series: Balancing & Tracking Hormones for Peak Performance with Dr. Erin Ellis

Ever experienced a slump in your athletic performance that just happens to align with your menstrual cycle? Or maybe you've noticed a dip in your energy levels and productivity that seems to coincide with the onset of menopause? Today, I’m navigating this all-important topic with Dr. Erin Ellis, a naturopathic doctor with a wealth of knowledge about hormones and their impact on our wellbeing.   Listen in as Dr. Ellis unpacks the ebb and flow of a 28-day menstrual cycle, discussing what it takes to harmonize our athletic lifestyle with our hormonal rhythms. Dr. Ellis explains what you have to consider if a golf tournament falls on an inconvenient week in your menstrual cycle, as well as how to tweak your training regimen based on your menstrual phase to maximize performance.   We also discuss how hormonal fluctuations contribute to performance decline and how to alleviate common symptoms such as hot flashes and night sweats with a combination of sleep, supplementation and—potentially for some women—hormone replacement therapy.   Dr. Ellis encourages women to listen to their body and challenge the all-too-common “everything is normal” narrative. From the benefits of cold plunges, infrared therapy, saunas, and curating your environment, Dr. Ellis shares a trove of wisdom that all women can use to create a holistic approach to their health.   About Dr. Erin Ellis: Dr. Erin Ellis is a naturopathic doctor based in Gilbert, AZ. She has found her passion helping women fix crappy periods, helping with hormone imbalances, and addressing why you are constantly running on empty by getting to the root cause so you can be your best version. 79. How to Make Golf Easier with Justin Klemballa // Rose & Thorn of the Dallas Shootout

We start off the episode with Ashley and Carrie with a behind the scenes look at what’s going on at the Dallas Shootout! I sit down with Justin Klemballa to discuss how we can elevate our current golf game without switching up the foundation we’ve honed over time. Listen in as we explain why: ●      Getting the ball in play on a tee shot is crucial, even if you must sacrifice some distance. ●      Identifying six easy holes, six medium holes, and six hard holes can help make golf easier. ●      Your decisions on the course, including club selection and play strategy, are within your control. ●      Teeing off on the opposite side of where you want to hit the ball can open up the hole. ●      Pin Locations tend to make us play worse golf. ●      When in a fairway bunker, you have to have enough loft to get over the lip. ●      Practicing with a purpose and the one-third practice rule can help improve your game. ●      The importance of practicing three to four-foot putts cannot be overstated. ●      The “one step at a time” strategy can simultaneously simplify and maximize every second of training. ●      Even on a bad day, a good short game can save the day. ●      Understanding that the ball's flight is beyond our control can help reduce stress and improve performance. ●      Using a lower lofted club and letting the ball roll onto the green can help improve your shot when you're within a hundred yards of the hole.   T-Time After-Show with Shannon Mercer We discuss… ●      Being willing to go a bit off-route, and maybe even get a bogey, to avoid penalties around particularly tough golf holes. ●      How often we avoid using our drivers. ●      The idea of getting within a hundred yards and looking at the course from then on as a par 3. ●      Dealing with fairway and downhill greenside bunker shots. ●      Our practice schedules.   Connect with our Guests: Justin Klemballa: Instagram | YouTube Shannon Mercer: Instagram Ashley Ibanez: Instagram Carrie Canoy: Instagram For more information on our 2024 Creek Cup or the California Crush Invitational, please visit: CompeteConfidenceGolf.com Subscribe to our FREE Female Golfer Facebook Group: First T Crew [Behind the Scenes of Women’s Golf] Get in touch! 78. Kathy Hart Wood is HERE and Sharing 3 Things She Learned Being a Caddie at the USGA Women’s Senior Am

We are back! And I’m spilling all the “T” on where the 2024 Creek Cup is and where our 2024 October Tournament will be hosted!! I sit down with Kathy Hart Wood, a New Jersey-based golf instructor and confidence coach who helps players overcome the mental obstacles that interfere with performance. We get into how our brains can be either our biggest asset or biggest barrier in golf, discussing the importance of effective instruction and how it can be tailored to resonate with different learners. “The fastest way to get better is to manage your mind first,” says Kathy. “Don’t wait to become a certain handicap before you decide to work on your brain and how you think out on the course. Work on it now.” Kathy and I dive into her three biggest takeaways on caddying for USGA events: being prepared mentally for the pace of play, understanding group dynamics, and setting up your course conditions. Maintaining efficiency on the course is largely a matter of being mindful of time taken between shots and getting familiar with the personalities and play styles of slower players in the group. For USGA tournaments specifically, Kathy brings up the “one butt rule” which states that in a player and caddy team, only one person can be seated in the cart at any given time. This means if the player is sitting down, the caddy cannot. Violating this rule can potentially lead to penalties. On the other hand, it can contribute to cooperation, particularly in deciding who gets the single cart in a group. About the Guest: Kathy Hart Wood is ranked as one of LPGA Teaching and Club Professional’s Top 50 LPGA Teachers. She is the creator of The Groove, a golf instruction membership site that offers a resource for golfers learning and improving in the game. Kathy is also a Confidence Coach who helps players overcome the mental obstacles that interfere with performance. She offers coaching in group workshops and individual formats.   T-Time After-Show with Kim Eaton  We discuss… How to deal with someone in your group who is playing on the slower side, in order to maintain pace of play. How strict the USGA tends to be regarding pace of play. Our thoughts on arguments over the single cart at USGA events. What players discussed at the clubhouse during stroke play and match play following Kim’s round. How Kim’s golf game changed following her recent injuries. Greenside bunker shots. How to qualify for the USGA U.S. Senior Women's Amateur Golf Championship. 76. (Part 3) The 21 Death Moves in Golf with Justin Klemballa

Ever found yourself frozen over the golf ball, your mind buzzing with so many thoughts that your swing becomes stiff and your shot goes wayward? That’s what Jim McLean calls a “death move”, and there are 21 of these moves that can completely wreck your game if you don’t pay attention! In the third of this 3-part series, Justin Klemballa, who was mentored by McLean himself, discusses the last 7 of these 21 death moves in golf. We start off with our 15th death move: moving the head well ahead of the ball during the driver swing. This shift is identified as a significant obstacle to hitting the ball farther and making solid contact. Justin also talks about the mistake of letting your right foot spin-out in the downswing, resulting in what he calls a “fake finish”. Another death move, casting from the top is attributed to a premature throw from the top of the swing. This is often caused by the golfer not realizing that the start of the downswing begins with the lower body. The next two death moves both relate to “chicken winging” the club. Justin offers tips on minimizing this common tendency and on delofting the club at impact to improve accuracy and distance. Then there’s hitting low hooks due to swinging too much inside out. Justin’s solution is simple, yet game-changing: Just let the club do its job rather than trying to force it up into the air. Finally, Justin explains how to avoid letting the club go vertical in the follow-through, and teaches a powerful drill which involves imagining a pane of glass atop your shoulders as you swing. 75. (Part 2) The 21 Death Moves in Golf with Justin Klemballa

Ever found yourself frozen over the golf ball, your mind buzzing with so many thoughts that your swing becomes stiff and your shot goes wayward? That’s what Jim McLean calls a “death move”, and there are 21 of these moves that can completely wreck your game if you don’t pay attention! In the second of this 3-part series, Justin Klemballa, who was mentored by McLean himself, discusses the next 7 of these 21 death moves in golf. We kick things off explaining how folding of the right elbow can result in a narrow backswing, and its opposite yet equally deadly mistake: dropping the club below the right elbow in the downswing. We talk about the importance of flexibility and mobility in golf, likening a good swing to holding a pizza pie. We go on to discuss the club shaft tip-over in your swing, a death move that typically leads in pulls and slices, improving your balance to avoid sliding past the ball on the downswing, and how to stop yourself from putting your weight on your toes in the backswing. Another common death move comes about as a result of constantly being told to “keep your head down on the ball” in the backswing: excessively dipping your body. Justin’s goofy drill to keep this from happening is to dangle a glove from your mouth, and try to swing while keeping the glove from moving. Finally, Justin teaches us how to avoid regripping the club during the swing by imagining the club to be a paintbrush. To watch this episode on YouTube, click here. 74. (Part 1) The 21 Death Moves in Golf with Justin Klemballa

Ever found yourself frozen over the golf ball, your mind buzzing with so many thoughts that your swing becomes stiff, and your shot goes wayward? That’s what Jim McLean calls a “Death Move”, and there are 21 of these moves that can completely wreck your golf swing! Jim writes about all 21 Death Moves in his book, "The 8-Step Swing". In the first of this 3-part series, Justin Klemballa, who was mentored by McLean himself, discusses the first 7 of these 21 death moves in golf, starting with the paralysis of overthinking. Make sure you tune in, since we don’t just call out these mistakes, but provide actionable tips and strategies to ensure you avoid making them going forward. We've all seen it, maybe even done it — moving our head towards the target as we swing. It's a rather common misstep that can lead to what's known as a reverse pivot in the downswing. Justin and I delve into the reasons behind this prevalent error and provide a handy shadow drill for rectifying it. But it's not just about the head movement; overextending your backswing, failing to engage your hips, or having too “armsy” or "handsy" a backswing can throw off your entire game. We explore how rotating the hands in a clockwise position can open the clubface too much, prompting a state of recovery in your swing. On the other hand, we also go through the pitfalls of having the clubface being too closed. To wrap up, we tackle the seventh death move — an open club face at the top of the swing. It's a common error among slicers, often resulting in a low left hook. We'll walk you through the differences between a square face and an open face at the top of the swing and explain how a cupped left wrist can prompt the face to open. 69. (Part 4) Distance Series: WHY Mobility Matters with Neal Valera of Stick Mobility

Andrew Hannon and I sit down with Neal Valera, a San Jose-based health, strength, and mobility coach and the Co-Founder of Stick Mobility. Neal shares how their training sticks serve as a unique tool for athletes of all stripes to improve range of motion, muscle activation, coordination, and body awareness to build a strong foundation for better movement. It also allows athletes to gradually increase their strength in different positions, aiding in injury prevention and rehabilitation. The Mobility Stick is likewise a powerful tool that golfers can use to enhance performance through the improvement of their balance, grip, and strength. It helps in achieving a controlled range of motion that maximizes swing power, and in easing golfers into certain positions that they might initially find challenging. It also does wonders for joint mobility, making it easier for golfers to manage their wrist, elbow, and shoulder movements. In the latter half of our conversation, Neal and Andrew discuss the importance of strength and cardio training for those looking to up their golf game. They offer guidance around setting achievable weight loss goals, and debunks common misconceptions, especially among women, about weight training. About the Guest: Neal Valera has been coaching strength, mobility, and movement since 2007. His love for sports, martial arts, and outdoor activities have contributed to his lifelong interest in various movement disciplines. Having trained a wide range of body types and fitness levels, Neal believes the common denominator for health, longevity, and performance is improving movement quality. Neal co-founded Stick Mobility in 2015 and is dedicated to helping people discover their physical potential and improve their ability to move well. 68. (Part 3) Distance Series: HOW to Get the Distance You Want with Lisa Longball

Justin Klemballa and I sit down with 8-time Canadian long drive champion Lisa Longball. Together, we unpack the three primary mistakes stopping women from gaining more distance in their golf swing and how to fix them! We also discuss Lisa's personal training schedule, why muscle memory is way more important than muscular strength, and the vital role of rest in achieving peak performance. We also explore the significance of tempo and having a mental routine alongside a physical one. Lisa shares her insightful personal experiences as a world-class athlete, including her triumph of hitting the longest drive in women's golf history, and what she did to gain the highest swing speed she's ever achieved. 3 Reasons You Lack Distance in Your Swing (and What to Do Instead) (06:47) Reason 1: You’re an arms lifter. Because women are naturally more flexible than men, it’s easy to think you’re turning when you’re really just lifting your arms. Lisa recommends looking at your body in two parts: the upper body and the lower body. During the backswing, start with your lead shoulder, forcing you to turn your chest turning away from the ball. On the other hand, during the downswing, maximize the coil and torque you’ve built up by leading with your lower body. (09:25) Reason 2: Your golf swing sequence is flawed or lacking. “Turn the shirt” on the backswing, freeze, then “turn the skirt” on the downswing. The best way to make this sequence second nature is by practicing dissociation drills, as well as training to move your weight to the instep of the back foot when transitioning from the backswing to the downswing. (18:43) Reason 3: You don’t finish the golf swing. Most golfers put all their focus on hitting the ball, so that once they make contact, they begin to decelerate and fail to maximize distance as a result. Your clubhead should be at its fastest not on the ball, but three feet past the ball. Always keep this in mind: Hit through the ball, not to the ball. About the Guest: Lisa Longball is an 8-time Canadian long drive national champion and has finished as high as 2nd in the world. She is an LDA Tour champion and Callaway Golf sponsored athlete. In addition to her competitive career, Lisa is a Golf Journalist for several publications including Inside Golf Magazine and has had her own column in Golf Digest Canada. Lisa uses her vast experience as a World Class athlete to be a successful keynote Peak Performance Speaker at conferences and conventions, is a Golf Entertainer for many corporate/charity golf tournaments across North America including PGA Tour and Champions Tour events and runs her own Golf School for Women both in Canada and the United States. 66. (Part 1) Distance Series: WHY is Gaining Distance So Important with Lou Stagner

One of the fundamental principles to leveling up your golf game is to improve your distance. Regardless of skill level, body type, or gender, lower-handicap golfers tend to be longer golfers, while higher-handicap golfers tend to be shorter golfers.  Listen in as Lou Stagner, Arccos Golf Data Insights Lead, breaks down distance as a skill that any golfer can train efficiently and effectively by incorporating a little strategy and a lot of data—600 shots worth of data from the Arcos database, to be precise! We explore how to maximize distance while carefully considering potential penalties and hazards, as well as factoring in tempo and strike into our swing. We debunk the common fear of losing accuracy when increasing speed. Lou shares valuable insights from the programs offered by golf fitness gurus Mike Carroll and Jamie Greaves. He explains how, with dedication, one can gain up to 6% clubhead speed and 10 extra yards in a matter of weeks, which can lead to a two-shot handicap reduction. Wrapping up, we take a look at optimizing long shots and club lengths, and explore how knowing your dispersion can help you minimize penalty situations. 65. **Big Announcement** PLUS Quick-9 on 5 Things Every Beginner Golfer Should Know

For more information on the SECOND 2024 Desert Classic, please visit: DesertClassicTournament.com. To grab a copy of the Short Game 100 program, please visit: ShortGame100.com. Key Takeaways ●      (19:00) It’s all about the short game. It’s true: Nobody started playing golf because they like to putt and chip. But working on your short game builds a strong foundation, over time, for your full swing. ●      (25:57) Most people aren’t that good. As with starting anything new, it’s easy to be intimidated by those who have more experience than you. At the beginning, everyone looks like a PGA Tour player. On the other hand, in Tori’s words, “I can verify that balls are not going far and they’re going cock-eyed. You’re not the only one!” Justin concurs, saying, “No matter what level you are, there is some really bad golf to be played out there, even on the highest level.” ●      (30:57) When in doubt, ask. No question is stupid in this game. Ask about the rules. Ask about etiquette. Ask about the dress code on certain courses. Ask where the range balls are. Ask where the first tee is. These are all normal questions, and everyone from your foursome to the pro shop staff to the bag room staff will be more than happy to answer any of them. ●      (38:02) Nobody cares about your game. Rather, pace of play is number one. This is easier said than done, of course. But simply being aware about pace of play will help speed up your game. Avoid getting lost in conversation and focus on keeping up with the group in front of you. ●      (44:41) Just pick it up. Nobody has been banned from the game for making a single mistake. Failing to adhere to the dress code the first time around is a lesson to keep in mind for next time. Be open to learning and making mistakes, and you will improve as a golfer. 64. Two Different Ways Tournament Prep Can ACTUALLY Look Like with Kim & Michael

Kim Eaton and I sit down with Michael Leonard, host of the Wicked Smart Golf Podcast, to get his take on tournament prep best practices. Kim kicks off the conversation filling us in on her own recent tournament experiences, including her win at the Colorado Senior Women’s Match Play Championship.   Asked how they prioritize their tournament schedule, Kim says that she always schedules her lineup, plane tickets, and hotel stays a year in advance, while Michael simply signs up for everything as soon as the application is open and has found his groove to the point where he plays around 65 tournament days a year. His top secret to energy management? “I try to get plenty of sleep!”   Practice-wise, Michael tries to limit swing changes a month out, focusing on practice rounds and “geeking out over Google Earth” to familiarize himself as best as he can with the course.   When prepping for a tournament, it’s important to figure out what yardages to play. Michael came prepared with his yardage book for Desert Highlands, which we poured over to create a tee box strategy for hole number six, including planning approach shots, getting an overview of the green, and preparing practice rounds based on the numbers gathered.   Finally, we talk pre-game routines. Kim’s rules are simple yet tried-and-true: get to the course an hour ahead with a bottle of Diet Coke and Slim Jims packed and ready. She does her practice shots, but doesn’t stick to any particular regiment. Michael, on the other hand, has a full pre-shot routine and doesn’t skimp on nutrition before a tournament, always bringing a cooler for protein supplements, water, and energy drinks to the course.   Connect with the Guests: Michael Leonard: Instagram | Podcast | Website Kim Eaton: Instagram Subscribe to our FREE Female Golfer Facebook Group: First T Crew [Behind the Scenes of Women’s Golf]   Get in touch! 63. Tough Lessons Learned from this Summer’s Biggest Tournaments & a DC Update

For more information on the 2024 Desert Classic, please visit: DesertClassicTournament.com. Adam is back and we give the lowdown on what to expect at the 2024 Desert Classic, followed by a reflection of the tough lessons learned at the 2023 Arizona Four-Ball, Arizona Mid-AM, and Arizona Women’s AM. Key Highlights Progress isn’t linear. Especially in the beginning, we tend to assume that our skills only get better with time. More often than not, they don’t. Accept that setbacks and distractions are just part of the journey, and aim for consistency over results! The personal stuff matters. Have realistic expectations. Life happens. Priorities shift. A year ago, You could become a plus handicapper after an intense, dedicated season of training, then lose that edge in a month just because of a life change that put golf lower on your list of priorities. After getting married, Ricky Fowler went from the top five down to the top 500. It happens to the best of the best. Follow the plan. The absolute best way to keep nerves at bay during a championship is to employ a steady stream of patience and stick to your plan. The more you familiarize yourself with your strategy and the course you’re applying it to—the more objectively you view the experience—the less intimidating the game becomes. The tournament isn’t over yet. Stay in the present. No matter how much you believe there’s no recovering, even if you think you’re stuck in last place, if the tournament isn’t over, there’s always an opportunity to recover. It doesn’t feel that way in the middle of the chaos on the golf course, but the second you decide to let it go and just play, you might be surprised where you end up on the leaderboard. Your most important shot is the one right in front of you. You can’t undo what you’ve already done. You can’t do your next three shots in advance. The most important shot in your golf career is the one you’re standing over right now.  To grab a free copy of the Round Report Card, download here: RoundReportCard.com. 62. Swing Tendencies When You Get Nervous and How to Fix Them with Justin Klemballa

Listen in as Justin Klemballa and I discuss tendencies golfers fall into when they get nervous, and strategies for nipping those tendencies in the bud! Key Highlights ·      Tendency #1: Tension. When adrenaline is pumping through your veins out on the course, you tend to grip your club a little too tightly. To counter tension, apply the “so theory”: Embrace the negative thought, but immediately follow-up with a solution to direct your fear into strategy. It’s always better to commit to action than to get paralyzed by tension. ·      Tendency #2: Not following through. It’s easy to get overly focused on the ball that you end your swing at the ball itself, as if the ball is your “finish line”. In fact, the ball is only “halftime”. Focus instead on sticking to the finish, where your body ends up facing your target, and your right toe is perfectly pointed. ·      Tendency #3: Transferring weight. At the end of a swing, notice whether you’re transferring your weight too far from the right to the left. ·      Tendency #4: ”Decelerating” during putts or chips. Deceleration tends to happen when you realize that you started with too much of a backswing, and try to slow yourself down throughout the rest of the swing to counteract that initial power. Instead, go with a shorter backswing and allow the acceleration to hit the golf ball. ·      Tendency #5: Speeding up your swing. If you tend to speed up at the backswing or the transition, try to keep your feet together and focus on redirecting the majority of that speed down to the bottom of the swing. ·      Tendency #6: The chicken wing. This is when your right elbow points up while going into the backswing, or when your left elbow points up on the follow-through. Focus on keeping your elbows down all the way through.   Connect with Justin: Instagram YouTube For more information on our monthly coaching membership if you want to break 100 or break 90, please visit: BreakingBogeys.com Subscribe to our FREE Female Golfer Facebook Group: First T Crew [Behind the Scenes of Women’s Golf] Get in touch! 61. A Golfer-Who-Plays-Tournaments vs. The Tournament Golfer with Mike Booker

I’m sitting down with Mike Booker, author of The Tournament Golfer’s Playbook, to discuss the differences between the “golfer-who-plays-tournaments” and the “tournament golfer”. Compared to recreational rounds, tournaments can get lonely, not to mention become a pressure cooker of expectations for the tournament player. However, Mike says that playing tournaments is a vital step to improving your golf game, no matter your level. While too much pressure can become debilitating, the right amount of it can reveal your strengths and weaknesses in ways recreational golf never can. When it comes to separating the true tournament golfer from the golfer who happens to play tournaments, Mike explains that the tournament professional is decisive, process-oriented, and looks at the big picture; while the dabbler is dithering, results-oriented, and agonizes over every shot and putt. As he wonderfully puts it: “The tournament golfer doesn’t live in a world of good breaks and bad breaks. They don’t have any excuses. They take responsibility for every shot they hit, no matter what the outcome is. They know what they can control and what they can’t control. About the Guest: Mike Booker is the author of The Tournament Golfer’s Playbook. Well-known in the world of Texas amateur golf, Mike has won a record number of Texas Golf Association events and multiple Texas Player of the Year distinctions. For over 50 years, he has competed against and alongside some of the most accomplished Tournament Golfers including Jack Nicklaus, Fred Couples, and Arnold Palmer. In 2019, he was inducted into the Texas Golf Hall of Fame, joining the likes of Jackie Burke and Ben Hogan. Grab a copy of The Tournament Golfer’s Playbook by Mike Booker at www.tgplaybook.com. 60. How to Overcome Plateaus in Your Golf Game with Trillium Rose

I’m sitting down with superstar golf instructor, Trillium Rose, to discuss the evolution of women's golf, how to get better faster AND how to overcome a plateau in your golf game! When I asked Trillium how to overcome a plateau, she recommended keeping stats by paying attention to patterns in your golf game. Can’t hit your 3-wood correctly? Blading or chinking your chips? “Let’s take a really honest look in the mirror,” says Trillium, “and figure out where you can improve.” She also warns against “the illusion of confidence” that golfers tend to fall into at the driving range, thinking that they’re improving simply because they’re getting in some good shots. Instead, “I may want to be working on shots I suck at because those are the shots that are going to cost me strokes!” To new players looking to establish a strong foundation, Trillium says that it’s important to understand where the club hits the ground and create “a consistent bottoming out”. She also encourages a lot of block practice as a warmup before moving onto the golf course to build the skill of environmental adaptation as fast as possible. About the Guest: Trillium Rose is a teaching professional and Director of Instruction at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Maryland. She is an expert in diagnosing swings, designing appropriate practice drills, and developing clear and concise practice plans. With nearly two decades of experience teaching golf, she has trained thousands of students. 53. Creating What Women Want with Joanne Cloak, Founder & CEO of Jofit

I sit down with Joanne Cloak, CEO and founder of the golfwear brand JoFit. With her unique perspective as a former model, phys ed teacher, and lifelong athlete, Joanne takes us through her journey from grappling with ill-fitting clothes to starting her own brand that champions comfort, fit, and style.   Joanne unveils the backstory of JoFit, recounting how she drove up and down the East and West Coast, trying to sell her brand to pro shops. She shares how she maneuvered through the challenges of scaling her business, managing cash flow, and pre-booking orders.   We also deep dive into Joanne's design ethos, emphasizing the importance of details, patterns, and sizing strategies. She shares why long-sleeve sun shirts are her go-to and how she ensures styles to fit all body types. We explore her wide waistband design aimed at comfort and inclusivity. Lastly, we provide a sneak peek at the exciting JoFit designs planned for Fall 2024.   Key Highlights ·      Joanne took matters into her own hands when she realized the lack of good-fitting clothes available for women, especially in the golf apparel industry. Her brand prioritizes comfort, fit, and style, with a keen eye for details like pocket size and armhole fit. ·      Selling to pro shops wasn't easy. Joanne had to rely on her samples and the feedback of women in the shop to get her brand off the ground. She soon realized that the key to success was pre-booking orders so she could afford the production. With 26 reps and booming orders, Joanne found herself in a promising yet tricky cash flow situation. ·      She realized that as sizes increase, the grading needs to be adjusted differently for areas like the bust and belly. This feedback led to alterations in the grading process to accommodate these changes. ·      Joanne's story also highlights the importance of inclusivity in the fashion industry, particularly in sports apparel. Her focus on creating clothes that cater to all body types and her dedication to improving the fit and comfort of her clothes based on customer feedback demonstrate a commitment to creating a brand that truly serves its customers.   Connect with our Guest: Jofit: Website | Instagram   For more information on the Short Game 100 program, visit: ShortGame100.com. 49. Overcoming Fear and Having Your Worst Round Ever with Michael Leonard

Tara and I sit down with Michael Leonard, host of the Wicked Smart Golf Podcast, to discuss his journey from novice golfer to competitor in US Open qualifiers and how he rekindled his love for the sport. Michael's enthusiasm is infectious, and it was a joy to reminisce about our own experiences playing college golf and how it shaped us both on and off the green.  During our conversation, we shared stories about unforgettable golf vacations, like Michael's family trip to Pebble Beach where he played three times a day and managed to shoot an impressive 79 at Pebble and 73 at Spyglass. We also delved into the impact of the new NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) rules on college athletes and offered advice for younger players looking to pursue a career in college golf.  Fear is a hurdle all golfers have to overcome more than once in their career. Through the example of one of the worst rounds Michael has ever played, we explored how to navigate the emotional roller coaster that comes along with playing competitively. 48. Prevention & Recovery of the Most Common Golf Injuries with Dr. Audra Lance

Today, I’m sitting down with Dr. Audra Lance, a leading sports and non-surgical injury specialist, who gives her best strategies on reducing the risk of injury or recovering from one.  Listen in as Dr. Audra shares her valuable insights into understanding the root cause of common sports injuries such as tennis elbow, rather than simply stifling the pain with a temporary band-aid solution.  We cover the fundamental role of breathing and thoracic spine mobility for golfers, as well as how loading the joints can prevent bone and muscle deterioration, and how modifying yoga poses can aid in injury prevention and recovery.  Key Highlights ·      Recovering from an inflamed elbow from repeated golf swings, without taking time away from playing the sport, is possible with a little planning. For example, instead of playing 18 holes, go to the driving range and do 15 minutes of swing practice. Holistic, deliberate movement, combined with purposeful breathing, can serve as your “tylenol”, helping you heal from your injury faster. ·      The importance of breathing when it comes to preventing and treating lower back pain is essential. Nasal breathing can help access your diaphragm and pelvic floor, not only to help release tension almost immediately, but to help you perform better out on the golf course! ·      We explore how strength training and yoga can help prevent and treat neck pain, headaches, jaw pain, and shoulder blade pain. We emphasize the importance of loading the joints to prevent bone and muscle deterioration, and how modifications to yoga poses can help with injury prevention and recovery. ·      We look at how examining the feet can help diagnose and treat an injury, and how adding different components of movement to your routine can help maintain health and prevent pain.  Connect with our Guest: Dr. Audra Lance: Instagram | Website  For more information on our Breaking Bogeys Coaching Membership, visit BreakingBogeys.com Subscribe to our FREE Female Golfer Facebook Group: First T Crew [Behind the Scenes of Women’s Golf]  Get in touch! 45. The Show About Expectations with Jon Sherman

Today, I’m joined by Jon Sherman, author of The Four Foundations of Golf, and creator of the Four Foundations Masterclass based on the book.  Jon shares a powerful story about playing golf with his father in Florida, which served as the catalyst for the four foundations concept and emphasizes the importance of aligning expectations with the reality of our abilities in the game.  The concept of managing expectations on the golf course is something that resonated deeply with both of us. Through our conversation, Jon and I explored the delicate balance between competition and enjoyment in golf, and how adjusting expectations can lead to a more satisfying experience on the course.  Jon and I delve into the crucial role that practice and feedback play in improving golf performance. Drawing from his own experiences and insights, Jon shared tips on how to strike the right balance between practice and play, and how to manage expectations with the two thirds rule and the PGA Tour Fallacy.  Sign up for The Four Foundations of Golf Masterclass at www.fourfoundationsofgolf.com/masterclass!  Key Highlights   Many players approach golf with an all-or-nothing mentality, basing their skill level on the success or failure they experience directly in front of them. Throw away this mindset. One of the greatest indicators of growth in the game of golf is incremental progress. Golf shots can be divided into three phases: tee shots, approach shots, and finesse shots. Virtually no golfer can nail all three shots above average in one game. Focus on getting at least one of these three shots right to take the pressure off of yourself and build your resolve. The PGA Tour Fallacy is when a golfer overestimates the ability of a PGA Tour player based on the highlight reel they see on TV. Temper your expectations for yourself by realizing that the best golfers in the world are nowhere near as flawless as the media makes them out to be. Find the right balance between practice and play for you. Think of playing as a form of practice, and that you can learn from the experience. Sometimes shooting your best score ever can be bittersweet. No matter how good you get at this game, there's a Jekyll and Hyde side to you, and the low-mid single-digit handicap is one of the most tortured golfers.    You can also watch the episode on YouTube HERE.  For more information on the Breaking Bogeys Coaching Membership, please visit: BreakingBogeys.com. 43. Inside the Business of Growing the Game with Abby Liebenthal

Today I sit down with Abby Liebenthal, Founder and President of Fore the Ladies, a nonprofit on a mission to introduce more women to the game of golf.  Abby shares her experience hosting 70 clinics and other events under the Fore the Ladies banner every year, particularly the third annual The Lily Golf Getaway held at Pinehurst Resort.  She also discusses her Intro to Golf series, breaking down what participants can expect out of the event from start to finish. Finally, Abby explains how players at different levels of skill can choose the right event they need to take their golf game to the next stage.  Key Highlights ·      The lineup of golf events to be hosted in 2023 by Fore the Ladies total 70 so far! These range from golf clinics to Happy Hour events. ·      Abby shares why she’s recently decided to host more events on actual golf courses rather than in indoor facilities, explaining that playing the game out on the course makes newer players more likely to play for the long haul. ·      Fore the Ladies is planning international events, starting with Scotland. Abby shares whats in the pipeline for 2024, including their itinerary for Ireland! ·      Every opportunity that comes our way is exciting, but with each new opportunity we take on, we need to dedicate a chunk of our day to it. 42. Doing Golf Differently with Haley Bookholdt

Tori sits down with social media influencer Haley Bookholdt.  She began her golf journey at nine years old during the 2008 recession. Her father, an avid golfer himself, encouraged Haley to pursue their shared passion. In 2017, she had the opportunity to attend Elon University on a golf scholarship.  Listen in as Haley talks about the mental and emotional challenges that came with her role as a college athlete, as well as the frustrating experience of transitioning to recreational golf later on.  Haley shares her experience as an influencer on Instagram and TikTok, and how she overcame the pressures of pleasing her male followers to display her authentic self on social media, which is to be a model for fellow female golfers.  Finally, Haley talks about the future of women’s golf in our male-dominated space, and why she believes that true representation can only be achieved when more women “claim the game as their own”.  Key Highlights   As golf rounds become longer and longer, it’s become more important to find a purpose in every game to maintain your enjoyment in the sport, whether it’s for competition or simply a mode of relaxation. Haley shares her social media journey, how she built a brand on her own terms (and not based on what others, especially men, thought of her), and her future plans. The male-dominated golf world will only become more inclusive when women claim the game as their own. If you want to progress as a golfer, embrace humility; otherwise, your athletic development will only slow down.   You can also watch the episode on YouTube HERE.  For more information on the Dallas Shootout, please visit: DallasShootout.com. 41. How Knowing Your Enneagram Type Can Help Improve Your Golf Game with Tracy O'Malley

Tracy sits down with Tracy O'Malley, world-renowned Master Performance, Business consultant, and Expert Enneagram Coach.  Listen in as she discusses the nine Enneagram types and how to use knowledge of your “soul blueprint” as a compass for making sense of the gaps in your golf game.  According to Tracy, getting in the reps is a foundational principle for all golfers, but that has to be complemented by breaking down the mental and emotional barriers that get in the way of growth. By knowing your Enneagram type, you’ll know how to do just that!  Key Highlights ·      Type 1s, the perfectionists, need to avoid making absolute statements (ex. I’m good/bad) and consider the gray areas. We miss the miracles when we fall back on black-and-white thinking. ·      Type 2s, the helpers, have to learn to ask for what they want and need. By putting your own oxygen mask first, you can offer much more help afterwards. ·      Type 3s, the hustlers, easily experience burnout. Being “the best” doesn’t necessarily trace back to something measurable, so slow down and enjoy the journey, the experience. ·      Type 4s, the romantics, could do with more structure. Creativity and expressiveness is great, but having a plan of action is the way to take your game to the next level. ·      Type 5s, the introverts, can get a little too obsessed with the accumulation of knowledge; but, there has to be a moment where you step away from the “how to” YouTube videos and take action. ·      Type 6s, the overthinkers, can get paralyzed by an outcome that has not even transpired yet. They have to learn to let go and have more faith in their game. ·      Type 7s, the master networkers, can end up seeking out fun in order to avoid the hard feelings. They need to visit the “solitude cave” every once in a while to find moments of quiet and create a strategy. ·      Type 8s, the cholerics, can be headstrong and domineering to the point of intimidating others. Consider making the journey from active controller to considerate helper. ·      Type 9s, who always prefer going with the flow, eventually have to take a stand in spite of a constant fear of conflict. Don’t be afraid of using your voice.  Learn more about Tracy O’Malley at www.tracyomalley.com For more information about the Dallas Shootout, visit: DallasShootout.com. 40. 5 Keys to Stay Miserable on the Golf Course with The Par Train Dudes

What a fun episode we have today with Evan Singer and Matt Cermak from The Par Train podcast joining us. We are filling you in on 5 ways you can be miserable on the golf course – this is a must listen! Key Hightlights: Expecting what you do on the range to happen on the course. A warm-up is just that: a warm-up. Your best swing or putt is an outlier, not an average. Trying to shoot your best score. When was the last time you actually shot your best score when you “tried” to shoot your best score? Don’t reinvent a past victory. Instead, recommit to earn a new victory. That is, don’t look at the finish line. Focus instead on the process—the journey—that will result in a win. Trying to impress others. Since we’re only human, we can’t help but care what others think; but, when we let the opinions of others influence our performance on the golf course, we end up doing worse than if we just put aside that insecurity. Assume you won’t make mistakes. Just because your last round was perfect doesn’t mean this round will be perfect. Golf is a game of recovery. Don’t get too high, and don’t get too low. Take care not to rest on your laurels after every good shot and beat yourself up after every bad shot. If you get too high, you create unnecessary pressure on yourself come the next swing; and if you get too low, you gradually lose the confidence and motivation to go on. 38. Golf Update and Summer Goals with Kim & Tara

Tori sits down with Kim and Tara to talk about what they expect going into the upcoming Arizona Four-Ball and the Arizona Senior Open. Kim and Tara, who are partnering up for the Four-Ball championship, discuss their game plan and pre-round routine.  Tara then shares her experience going through the P.J. Boatwright Internship Program as a college sophomore and how it affected her golf career going forward. She also talks about her recent drive to once again qualify for the Arizona Mid-Amateur Championship.  Finally, Tori, Kim, and Tara talk about the challenge of getting the 2022 Women’s Mid-Amateur to push through, followed by their goals for the summer.  Key Highlights When playing with a partner, don’t put pressure on yourself. There are no “sorrys” in partner golf. If one partner makes a mistake at a hole, the other partner is there to close that gap and provide support. Tara explains that caddies don’t necessarily need to know a lot about golf. A newcomer can learn a lot just by spending enough time on the green and staying observant. When scouting out a club, don’t be afraid to ask if anyone’s in need of a caddie, because more often than not, someone’s looking. Golf is an emotional game, and like with any sport, no one likes to lose. Tori reminds us that it’s actually after the greatest losses that the most valuable lessons are learned. It’s okay to be competitive, even among friends. But it’s definitely tough (and often awkward) to compete against friends. That discomfort goes away over time as long as everyone remembers that competition ends when the game ends. You can also watch the episode on YouTube HERE. 36. [Part Two] Breaking Bogeys Workshop: Do You Have a Goal to Break 100 or Break 90 this Season?

Download the Breaking Bogeys Workbook HERE.  You can also watch the workshop on YouTube HERE.  Justin Klemballa does a deep dive into making better contact with the ground, explaining how to avoid fat shots and train yourself to take a divot in front of the golf ball.  He breaks down the four steps to improving your swing, covering how to shorten your backswing, stay on plane all the way through the swing, and create a mental plan to stay consistent with each and every shot.  Key Highlights ·      The biggest technical problem golfers struggle with, if they have bad contact, is not realizing where the divot is supposed to be. Your club bottoms out and hits the ground with every golf club in your bag except your driver and your putter. Every other club should hit the ground slightly in front of the ball. Hitting the ground before the ball is called a “fat shot”, and it saps energy that would have otherwise gone into the ball. ·      What causes the ground to be struck behind the ball is when the golfer’s weight is distributed evenly (50/50 on each leg) or their weight is too much on the back foot. Get your weight (around 70-80%) into your left side prior to the moment of impact. ·      The four areas golfers must work on to improve their swing, in order of priority, are: to hit the ball more consistently, to hit the ball straight, and to hit the ball farther. ·      To help shorten your backswing, your body and arms should stop turning at the same time. Eliminate the tendency to continue swinging your arms after your body stops swinging.  *NEW* May 2023: Breaking Bogeys Coaching Membership Details  Justin Klemballa Instagram YouTube Subscribe to our FREE Female Golfer Facebook Group: First T Crew [Behind the Scenes of Women’s Golf]  Get in touch! 34. Using Manifestation to Give Yourself the Mental Edge with Tiffany Carter

Tori sits down with Tiffany Carter, a female empowerment speaker, money-making mentor, and marketing expert.  She’s the founder of ProjectME, a program which taps into the power of manifestation to turn your deepest desires—whether in wealth, love, career, self-worth, travel, or relationships—into reality.  Listen in as Tiffany shares how to apply manifestation to your golf game in three steps. Whether your goal is to break score barriers or get your handicap index down to single digits, you can’t physically train yourself to overcome self-limiting beliefs.  She explains the process of envisioning the end result as regularly and as powerfully as you can until it comes to fruition, as well as how to prevent nervousness and creeping insecurities from sabotaging the process.  Finally, Tiffany, talks about the importance of actually taking action on the things you envision. By showing up for yourself every day, and having a community to uplift you during those inevitable low moments, the Universe will always come through with the things you desire.  Powerful Quotes by Tiffany “Manifestation is when the power of visualization meets action meets energy.”  “You can’t out-practice or outplay a broken mindset.”  Key Highlights ·      Manifestation is all about visualizing a desired outcome and having that desire come into existence. This is a process which starts with the dream. When you combine that dream with the feelings attached to it, igniting all of that with action, you can manifest anything into your life. ·      Almost every top performer in every sport, including golf, works with a mindset coach. They didn’t become the elite of the elite through sheer physical talent and honed skill. They did it by focusing just as equally on the mental game. “The edge,” Tiffany reminds us, “is yourself.” ·      Manifestation isn’t about lying to yourself, saying, “I’m a good putter,” when you know it’s not true. Instead, it’s about expressing the type of golfer you want to be: “My putting is improving.” Make the vision as detailed as possible, down to what you’re wearing. ·      Release your attachments from the past and the future and stick to the present moment. All of your anxieties, fears, and insecurities, which impede manifestation, stem from being unable to focus on the now. ·      Half-measures beget half results. By deliberately taking aligned actions, doing them consistently, and having a support group to cheer you on, the Universe can’t help but make real what you’re putting all of your energies into manifesting day after day.  Resources Mentioned The Abundance Walk, AFree Guided Meditation Series: projectmewithtiffany.com/guidedmeditation  Connect with Tiffany Carter Website: projectmewithtiffany.com Instagram: instagram.com/projectme_with_tiffany Subscribe to our FREE Female Golfer Facebook Group: First T Crew [Behind the Scenes of Women’s Golf]  Get in touch! 33. A Golf Trip Turned Tradition with Oli Bell

Tori sits down with Shannon Mercer, Ashley Ibañez, and, all the way from the UK, Oli Bell.  Oli is a sports broadcaster who specializes in horse racing, while occasionally dabbling in soccer as well as niche sports like snooker and darts. He’s also passionate about golf.  Shannon and Ashley reflect on their 2022 trip to Scotland, where they intended to visit Dumbarnie Links as the first of their lineup of golf courses in the country, and how the Queen’s funeral forced them to postpone that visit.  They went to North Berwick Golf Club and St Andrews Links, finishing at Kingsbarns Golf Links where they met Oli.  Oli also discusses the planning process behind his annual golf trip for his group of twelve, the Bear Fight Invitational. He shares why he thinks the game of golf is not only great for building authentic relationships with like-minded folks, but also for broadening your horizons by traveling to amazing places in different countries.  Key Highlights ·        Oli’s Bear Fight golf trips have allowed him to maintain genuine friendships amid the glitz and glamor of the world of media he’s constantly immersed in. Tori agrees, saying that golf has been a great way to meet new people and strengthen existing relationships, not to mention travel and discover beautiful new spots around the world. ·        As female golfers, Tori, Shannon, and Ashley probably felt more welcome in the Scottish golf community than in America. There, they didn’t feel like “women golfers” as much as they were simply “golfers”.  Connect with Oli Bell: Oli Bell: Instagram Oli Bell: Twitter Subscribe to our FREE Female Golfer Facebook Group: First T Crew [Behind the Scenes of Women’s Golf]  Get in touch! 31. The Journey of Becoming One of the Top Senior Amateur Players in the Country with Shelly Haywood

Tori and Kim sit down with Shelly Haywood, who discusses how she has been able to successfully balance business ownership with high level amateur golf and became one of the most elite amateur players in the country.  Shelly discusses the highest highs in her storied career, which include winning two national titles, as well as her biggest loss in the form of the 2019 Southern California Senior Women’s Tournament and the priceless lessons that followed.  Key Moments ●      (15:37) If time is a real issue, focus on quality practice. “I’m lucky if I can play once a week,” says Shelly. She prioritizes her short game over all else. ●      (33:00) Shelly’s first major tournament, the 2019 Southern California Senior Women, was also her first major loss. Being only a year into her pro career, Shelly knew that she simply didn’t have the experience nor the tools to be able to evaluate what went wrong in the moment. She’s since realized that the primary challenge she faced during that tournament was all a mental game, particularly around her self-worth. Her biggest lesson learned? “I am not defined as a person by the score that I shoot.” That the only thing she, as a player, can control is the shot in front of you. “Once that ball leaves the club face, it’s out of your control.” ●      (48:01) When men play good golf, they’re happy. When women are happy, they play good golf. ●      (51:17) Stop obsessing over “winning” the tournament you’re planning to play. We all want to win; otherwise, we wouldn’t go! Stay focused on the things you can control and let go of the things that you can’t. Take care of the little things and the big things will always follow. In golf, take care of your short game, your wedge game, and your bunker play, and commit to every shot 100%. Beyond that, stay grateful and in shape.  Connect with Our Guests: Shelly Haywood: Instagram Kim Eaton: Instagram Subscribe to our FREE Female Golfer Facebook Group: First T Crew [Behind the Scenes of Women’s Golf]  Get in touch! 30. What’s in Your Bag, Bev Cart Chronicles & the Babes Golf Experience

Tori sits down with Alex, Sally, and Amanda of Babes Golf to talk about what sets their exclusive community apart from all other golf communities.  They then show off the most unique items they keep in their golf bags, all the while giving their best tips for newbies on golf bag essentials!  Key Moments ●      (14:37) “We may not get a hole-in-one, but we have a whole lot of fun.” This is what Babes Golf is all about: to steer as far as possible from your usual competitive golf club and be a community that prioritizes fun, without any of the pressure of outcompeting your fellow golfer! ●      (27:36) Opening a Babes Golf chapter in Arizona came with a fair share of surprises. The first was how much higher the costs are in running a golf club in Arizona even compared to California. Another is having to figure out a way to fill the summer schedule, considering very few people want to play golf around this time. ●      (32:17) Sally and Amanda show off the most unique items in their golf bags! Listen to the stories behind a custom-made JAWS wedge, a Birdie Supply towel with a magnet, a handy club-cleaning brush, a special-edition ball and a matching club head cover, and wedges passed down from father to daughter! ●      (41:34) It’s important to change your wedges every 80 rounds. Likewise, players should get their grips changed every 40 rounds. This is a very easy process: Head to the PGA superstore, or any golf store, and ask the representative to install the grips for you for a fee. They’ll be ready in a couple days. Note that if you belong to a club, you can ask to get new grips installed in the bag room.  Connect with Our Guests: Babes Golf: Instagram | Website Alex Andersen: Instagram Sally Touw: Instagram Amanda Pigos: Instagram Subscribe to our FREE Female Golfer Facebook Group: First T Crew [Behind the Scenes of Women’s Golf]  Get in touch! 28. Find Your Best Golf Ball with Beth Yahara

For more info on the Dallas Shootout, visit: DallasShootout.com.  Tori sits down with Beth Yahara, a member of the Titleist Golf Ball Fitting Team.  Listen in as Beth shares how any player, whether beginner or expert, can find the right ball for them. She smashes several common golf ball myths, and unpacks the three primary factors to keep in mind when choosing a ball: flight, feel, and spin.  Key Moments ●      (03:01) Swing speed doesn’t matter. Regardless of your gender, handicap, and all other factors, swing speed is not the most important factor in your game. ●      (07:35) The cover of the golf ball is its most important component. It’s almost always unintentional, but it will throw off a lot of players. The cover is the brakes of the golf ball—what helps it stop. The softer the cover material, the better it interacts with the grooves of the ball. ●      (10:26) There are two types of stopping power. The “cover” takes care of shots going around 50 yards out. Fuller golf swings—around 150 yards coming into the green—come from the “core”, the engine of the golf ball. The Pro V1, Pro V1x, and AVX golf balls will give you your best short game control. The flagship differences between the three balls are flight, feel, and spin. ●      (15:52) You can identify the year of a Titleist golf ball by reading its sidestamp. The flight, feel, and spin of a Pro V1 from 2013 is different from one from 2018. This is why it’s so important to be fit for a golf ball to find one that suits your game. ●      (27:19) Pro V1, Pro V1x, and AVX balls come in optic yellow. There is a “sheen” to these balls that allow sunlight to reflect off of them while airborne, making them easier to see. ●      (36:28) Even beginners can benefit from playing a golf ball they were fitted for. This is for the same reason getting fit for clubs early on can be extremely beneficial. Simply, it allows you to get better, quicker. ●      (43:59) The higher the elevation, the farther the ball goes. Other factors that influence the ball include humidity and weather. However, it’s important to play with the same golf ball no matter the weather, and to store them in a controlled environment regardless of season. ●      (46:40) The feel of the golf ball is influenced by the compression of the core. Cores are all solid rubber. A low-compression golf ball, such as 60 compression, will feel softer than 110 compression. One is not better than the other. As with weather and temperature, performance all depends on the player. This is why players must practice with the balls they normally play with. ●      (54:03) Having a low swing speed doesn’t necessarily mean you need a lower-compression ball. This enduring myth came out from the days of ball cores being made of rubber bands. Rather, take note of how high you hit the ball, how much spin you have on the ball, and your feel preference. You don’t need to get to the center of the ball anymore. If you make 50 yards, you’re fully compressing the golf ball.  Connect with Our Guests: Titleist Instagram Get Fitted for Your Perfect Golf Ball HERE Subscribe to our FREE Female Golfer Facebook Group: First T Crew [Behind the Scenes of Women’s Golf]  Get in touch! 25. Part Two // Top 5 Golf Etiquette You HAVE TO KNOW When Playing a Tournament

PART TWO of the conversation with Tori, Kim, Tara and Pat as they continue their discussion on tournament must-knows in the wake of their time at the Desert Classic.  This time, they dive into their top five etiquette rules that every tournament player needs to keep in mind.  Key Moments ●      (02:36) Show up if you made a commitment. That means all two or three days of the tournament! It even includes individual tournaments, no matter how poorly you’re performing because, as Kim reminds us, “You have to take the good with the bad.” By demonstrating that you have the integrity and gumption to stick with it no matter what, you’ll almost always be invited to play another tournament. ●      (06:56) Don’t step in someone else’s putting line. It’s almost always unintentional, but it will throw off a lot of players. ●      (08:49) Always ask whether to have the flag in or out on the first hole. A lot of players won’t care either way, but it’s always best practice to ask. ●      (10:10) Always ask whether players want to play ready golf or honors. Some players like to start with honors, others don’t. But when it comes to the putting green, always go with honors. ●      (14:35) Always ask before playing music. The rule of thumb here is, the more serious the tournament, the less appropriate it is to play music. In a similar vein, try not to be on your phone for too much of the game, as this will likewise distract the other players. ●      (18:25) Help others in the group look for lost balls. Aside from basic etiquette, making the effort to look for a lost ball helps with pace of play. Once the player gets to the location, they have three minutes to look for the ball until it’s considered lost. ●      (20:53) Fixing ball marks and filling sand divots. And don’t just fix and fill yours. Fix and fill two more.  Connect with Our Guests: Tara Bateman: Instagram Kim Eaton: Instagram Pat Kuntz: Instagram Subscribe to our FREE Female Golfer Facebook Group: First T Crew [Behind the Scenes of Women’s Golf]  Get in touch! 24. Top 5 Rules You HAVE TO KNOW When Playing a Tournament

Tori sits down with Tara Bateman, Kim Eaton, and Pat Kuntz.  With their experience at the Desert Classic fresh on their minds, Tori and her guests dive into the top five rules every player needs to keep in mind when playing in a tournament.  Key Takeaways ●      (02:52) Know the difference between a red line and a yellow line. The red line is a lateral penalty area, in which there is always an option to play the ball. The rules have recently changed so that a player can now ground their club and pick up almost anything in the penalty area. A yellow penalty area may still be playable, such as across water. But it’s likely that the player will have to take a penalty of one stroke if the ball is in the water. ●      (11:53) Drop the ball from the cart path, considered a free relief. Other examples of free relief include ground under repair, casual water, embedded ball, animal hole, and a cable box within your swing path. ●      (18:14) When your ball moves on the putting green after marking it, the ball’s official place is still on that mark. Once you’ve marked it, you have to replace it, even if the ball enters the hole. ●      (22:10) When a ball is non-playable (ex. in a bush), a player has three options. 1) Take two club lengths from the ball in any direction; 2) Take the ball on the line to the flag stick and go back as far as needed; 3) Replay the shot. ●      (25:57) When a ball is OB (out-of-bounds) or lost, the only option is to retee it. If you’re not sure that the ball is lost, always play a provisional before going forward. That’s because, once you go forward, you can no longer go back to hit a provisional. 23. Building a Golf Apparel Business from the Ground Up with Founder of Golftini, Susan Hess

Tori sits down with Susan Hess, Founder and Head Designer at Golftini, a luxury brand of fashionable and functional women's golf apparel.  Listen in as Susan looks back on starting Golftini in 2004, motivated by her own annoyance that women’s golf wear at the time was either functional or fashionable, but never both!  The first skort she ever designed, for herself, instantly caught the attention of the other women at her club, and for the next year she made and sold product to her peers with no intention to make a “real” business out of it. That was until she was invited to set up a booth at a PGA Tour a year later in 2005. She went home with a $70,000 check, and she never looked back.  Susan shares how she learned the ropes of business ownership, gaining almost all of it from practical experience in the trenches day by day as the brand grew. And the name “Golftini”? She says it came to her almost on a whim amid the martini craze in mid-2000s New York.  She wrote the name, along with the martini logo, down on a napkin, and it stuck!  Key Moments ●      (32:03) Susan talks about her Spring and Fall lines and what to expect in upcoming seasons. ●      (39:13) Learn which skort lengths Golfini offers and what length to expect based on your size. ●      (41:44) What does Golftini offer tennis and pickleball players? ●      (44:14) Susan explains what makes Golftini products so high-quality and long-lasting. ●      (46:48) Why is women’s golf apparel so expensive, and why aren’t there larger sizes? ●      (54:07) Susan shares why there are currently no plans to go exclusively ecommerce. ●      (56:10) What would Susan tell her 2004 self, and to other moms?  Connect with Our Guests: Golftini: Instagram | Website | TikTok | LinkedIn 25% Off Code for First Time Customers, Use Code TTGOLF Subscribe to our FREE Female Golfer Facebook Group: First T Crew [Behind the Scenes of Women’s Golf]  Get in touch! 22. Keep Your Golf Stats to a Lower Handicap Index

Download the *NEW* Round Report Card  Tori sits down with Adam Walicki and Christine Fero.  Christine kicks off the conversation with an update on her journey to a single-digit handicap, which she began on June 30, 2022. You can follow her progress in real-time on her Instagram (www.instagram.com/practice_makes_9)!  Tori, Adam, and Christine then dive into today’s topic: the importance of keeping stats, and how to use a round report card to track your game.  Key Takeaways ●      (02:48) When working to improve your handicap, the number won’t mean as much as the confidence you develop on the course. When Christine began documenting her journey on Instagram over half a year ago, she had no idea how things would go. All that mattered was that she gave it her best shot. When she embraced that mindset, progress naturally followed. ●      (16:01) You should prioritize your stats even over your handicap. Stats are like a handicap: Everybody should have them. However, not only do your stats give you an overall picture of your progress as a golfer, but they also tell you the direction you need to go to keep improving. ●      (24:06) Take advantage of the round report card. You can use the round report card for any course and any round. Start by filling in the par in the top row, the score in the second row, then the fairway in the third. There is a row for yards in and clubs used, followed by greens in regulation (GIR). There is an optional row where you can note which direction you missed. Finally, there is a row for putts. ●      (35:21) For a handicap index of 10-19, great goals are 5-6 fairways, 8+ GIR, 34 or fewer putts, and 50+ feet in putts made. ●      (38:32) The latest version of the round report card includes rows for throwaways and opportunities. An opportunity is a birdie putt inside of about 18 feet down to 15 feet (the latter for more undulated greens). Throwaways is the most important category for any golfer striving for a single-digit handicap. Examples of throwaways (as listed on the new round report card) include: out-of-bounds, penalty shots, unplayable, sideways or backwards punch-out, bogie within 100 yards, 3 puts within 40 feet, putts missed within 3 feet.  Download the NEW Round Report Card  Connect with Our Guests: Christine Fero: Instagram Adam Walicki: Instagram Subscribe to our FREE Female Golfer Facebook Group: First T Crew [Behind the Scenes of Women’s Golf]  Get in touch! 20. From a 10 Handicap Index to a 1 Index in 18 Months with Michael Hutchinson

Tori sits down with Michael Hutchinson, who famously went from a 10 handicap index down to a 1 in 18 months. Listen in as Michael explains how he was able to accomplish this feat by assessing his golf capabilities and skill gaps. He breaks down the three areas that made the biggest difference: Understanding what occurs at impact (ground strike, face strike, face direction), optimizing his strategy, and working on his mental game. Key Takeaways (18:22) To stop topping the ball, learn how to accomplish a full swing as short as you possibly can. Work on your low point control, where the club impacts the ball. There is no such thing as the perfect swing, much less a repeatable perfect swing. Every golfer needs to build the skill they uniquely need to coordinate the way their muscles fire, and in which sequence. (24:30) Determining what needs work, whether your irons or your skill, is a matter of diagnostics. There are three areas to take note of: what is occurring at impact, strategy, and the mental game. Impact in particular is influenced by ground strike, face strike, and face direction. Once you can distill those impact variables to determine why your balls end up where they land, the better you can improve. (32:01) Face direction accounts for roughly 75% of where the ball starts. When you hit a shot that starts to the left, your path wasn’t necessarily to the left, but the face was closed on impact. Learn the ball flight laws to understand why the ball curves as it does. Only two things cause a hook: the face of the club being closed to the path through impact, and gear effect. (39:51) Strategy is all about applying knowledge of your own patterns, or the dispersion of your golf shot, to the course layout and design. The two biggest mistakes players make is aiming too close to the center of the fairway and the pins. Going into a round with a game plan is always helpful. Most importantly, know your exact target off the tee and know where to miss. (49:36) Your mental game will evolve the most out of these factors. Mindfulness practices tend to change over time, and finding the best ways to put yourself into a state of flow is a daily process of discovery. 18. Speed Training and Gaining More Distance with Andrew Hannon & Zach Gulley

Tori sits down with golf fitness trainers Andrew Hannon and Zach Gulley. Our guests kick things off with their thoughts on using social media as a tool for business growth, before diving into the meat of today’s conversation: each of their top five ways to gain more distance! Key Takeaways ●      (13:53) Improving your speed can increase your distance, but it’s not the only way to do so. Other factors that play into distance are improving the mechanics of your swing, and fixing or acquiring equipment specifically built for you. ●      (18:30) The gym will only take you so far. It’s never a bad idea to go to the gym and work on your fitness. But if you’re serious about unlocking your potential as a golfer, it’s important to work with a coach on a regular basis. ●      (21:46) Work on sequencing. At the most basic level, a swing sequence is a progression of movement from the pelvis to the torso to the arms to the wrists to the club. It’s not like that for everybody, not even tour pros. But Andrew and Zach train this sequence as a foundation because it results in maximum athletic motion. In other words, getting as close as possible to this particular sequence has been observed to produce the most power. ●      (30:48) Improve your force production. This is where the gym comes into play. How fast can you squat, bench, and row? Have a professional evaluate your current level of fitness as well as your body fat and other vitals, so that you’re able to create an optimized roadmap for your physical progression. Force production is crucial because more strength equals more speed. ●      (37:46) When screening a player, Andrew and Zack begin with trying to understand who they are as a golfer. What’s your motivation? Are you teachable? Are you willing to invest a considerable amount of time to achieve your goals? Most people are excited about the thought of improving their fitness and skills, but it’s just as important to willingly put in the time and effort needed to do so! ●      (42:01) Incorporate power implements to your training. The goal is to train your body to move lighter loads faster. Use equipment such as medicine balls and bands, and practice jumps to boost your force production. ●      (43:55) The three Ds of iron fitting are Distance, Dispersion, and Dissent angle. This is because each club has a different goal. Two clubs that do the same thing only make for a heavier bag. As important as distance is, without tight dispersion, you will have worse misses. The better your misses, the better your game. Likewise, if you’re not landing on and holding greens, your score will continue to add up.  Connect with Our Guests: Andrew Hannon: Instagram Zach Gulley: Instagram Subscribe to our FREE Female Golfer Facebook Group: First T Crew [Behind the Scenes of Women’s Golf] Get in touch! 17. All the Club Fitting Questions Answered with #TeamTitleist

Tori and her sister Alix sit down with Titleist’s Manager of club fitting and trial events Bobby Flood, and fitting specialist Kayla Fridley.  Listen in as Bobby and Kayla explain the importance of getting fitted for clubs as early as possible if you have the goal of improving your golf game.  They run us through their personalized tried-and-tested process at Titleist so that you know what to expect at your first fitting!  Key Takeaways ●      (07:10) If your score matters to you as a golfer, you should consider getting club fit. If you’re working on your game, it’s worth getting fitted as soon as possible. Even if you’re just trying to break 100 or 110, it’s important to be using the right equipment for you. ●      (12:23) It’s okay to use someone else’s clubs at the beginning to establish the fundamentals. As you get the basics down, you can gradually replace those hand-me-downs as you transition into fine-tuning those fundamentals. ●      (13:37) At Titleist, you can get fitted for everything but a putter, but you can always choose specifically what you want to be fit for. Fittings last 45 minutes per category and are based on Titleist’s registration and interview process, based solely around your goals. ●      (16:30) The fitting fee at Titleist is $100. This fee secures your spot and fitting time, and it goes toward any purchases you make during the fitting. For example, if you decide to buy the driver you get fitted for, that $100 covers the purchase. A complete set with a driver, fairway wood, hybrid, a wedge, and even a partial set of irons will cost around $2500. ●      (27:58) If you maintain a consistency in your swing but still feel that you can improve, get fitted in addition to working with an instructor. Finding a teacher who understands how a proper club can help you progress is also important. ●      (38:35) When getting fittest at Titleist, bring your current set of clubs. You will be asked about your golf game, expectations, and wants and needs. You’ll start with your 7-iron and get a few swings in, then give your feedback. Usually, this process beginning with drivers proceeds all the way down to wedges. However, with only 45 minutes to work with, your process ultimately depends on which clubs you want to prioritize at your fitting. 15. An Outline to Organizing Your Member/Guest with Kim & Leslie

Tori sits down with Leslie Rangel and Kim Eaton. After briefing us on their golf game and a few of their secrets to staying in top shape, Leslie and Kim discuss the ins-and-outs of planning and organizing member-guest tournaments. Key Takeaways ●      (13:10) Know your budget. Once you settle on the number of days you want for the tournament (and verify availability at the pro shop), you’ll want to get clear on your budget. Your budget determines how many spots you’ll pay, the entry fee, meals, and more. Note that the price per day will change depending on the day of the week and the time of year. ●      (21:35) At partner events, you can opt for either the stroke play format or a match play (9-hole matches). Most clubs stick to traditional formats which they’ve run for years. However, you may be able to switch things up for your particular event by making a suggestion with the board. Optionally, you can do what’s called a Horse Race at the end of a game with 10-20 teams taking strict alternating shots on the same hole. ●      (32:34) When determining registration prices, factor in increasing costs. Typically, the use of a country club course is free. But there are cart fees, as well as costs for tee gifts and prizes. Then there’s food, which is often the biggest expense. ●      (37:34) Open registration at least three months in advance, and close around three weeks before the tournament. ●      (41:01) Themes are fun, but they can easily be a time- and money-suck without careful planning. Our favorites for invitationals include casino, rock & roll, gold rush, and springtime. ●      (46:07) You can include parimutuel betting in which players can bet on individual teams to win, place, or show. In Tori’s experience, women don’t usually bet enough money to make it worthwhile. Even if your team wins, you might only walk away with the same amount you bet. ●      (51:47) Get creative with tee gifts and prizes. Our guests’ favorite tee gifts are portable fans and rechargeable hand warmers, water bottles, shoe bags, speakers, and saddle bags. Typical prizes include pro shop credit, gift cards, cash, and merchandise such as bags.  Connect with Our Guest: Kim Eaton: Instagram Leslie Rangel: Instagram Subscribe to our FREE Female Golfer Facebook Group: First T Crew [Behind the Scenes of Women’s Golf] Get in touch! 14. Making Your Tournament Schedule and Playing in Bigger Events

Tori sits down with Abe Candelaria III, Adam Walicki, and Erin Groeneveld. Today’s conversation is all about the often-intimidating world of tournament golf. Listen in as our guests offer their best advice on qualifying for the right events and how to prepare for the rounds that matter. They also give their thoughts on the mindset differences between male and female players when it comes to participating in golf tournaments, and how women can better motivate and prepare themselves to qualify for championships. Key Takeaways (8:26) “The way to get better at tournament golf is to play tournament golf,” says Abe. To build up your skill and confidence, particularly at the beginning of your journey, consider joining your local ladies’ or men’s club. The hardest part is getting started, but the only way to improve as a player is to participate in more tournaments. (14:05) Joining an individual event doesn’t necessarily mean you’re going to be alone. Sign up alongside whoever you’re most comfortable playing with at partner events to carry that support over. “It’s scary until you do it,” says Erin, but most people who join individual events for the first time end up connecting well with a like-minded community of people who are invested in the same thing they are. (26:52) The U.S. Amateur and the U.S. Open have more qualifying sites than all others. The U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur is the least participated despite the fact that there is a great chance of qualifying and playing for these championships. If you’ve been a tournament player for the last five or so years, and you’re willing to take time away from your family for the duration of the championship, you’re ready to qualify. (37:06) Never enter a tournament round worried about your mechanics. For a round that matters, Adam and Abe like to be there 90 minutes in advance, the bulk of that time being spent on the range. Adam focuses on wedge timing around 70% of the time, 20% on irons, and the other 10% on drivers and 3 woods.  Connect with Our Guest: Erin Groeneveld: Instagram Adam Walicki: Instagram Abe Candelaria: InstagramSubscribe to our FREE Female Golfer Facebook Group: First T Crew [Behind the Scenes of Women’s Golf] Get in touch! 13. What It’s Like to be on the Road with LPGA Player, Brianna Do

Tori sits down with LPGA touring pro Brianna Do, LPGA caddy Tara Bateman, and Tara’s wife Brandi. Listen in as Brianna reflects on her first professional event, the 2012 U.S. Women's Open, including her experience at Q School as well as the rewards of playing on the Epson Tour as a “stepping stone” to the LPGA Tour. She then shares how she navigated her last 7 years on the LPGA Tour. Brianna also gives her thoughts on finding the right caddy, the importance of getting fitted early, getting sponsors, and how playing in a Pro-Am can make or break your professional career. Key Takeaways ●      (8:31) Having experience playing on the Epson is a great stepping stone to the LPGA Tour. For Brianna, the Epson Tour honed her pace of play while allowing her to make connections with fellow professional women golfers. ●      (12:32) While on conditional status, you can bounce back and forth before the first reshuffle before settling on a tour to stick with. Chase the Monday qualifiers before the first reshuffle. If you don’t make the cut on the LPGA after the first reshuffle, pick one tour to stick with. Play to win at every stage if your goal is to play on the LPGA. ●      (18:19) Not every shot needs to be perfect, and you don’t need to do what everyone else is doing. Listen to your body. You may not need to push yourself to do 18-hole practice rounds on the regular just because you see all the other pros doing them. Also, rather than focusing on the perfect shot, consider the perfect miss instead. ●      (28:32) Minimalism and consistency are key to improving your golf game. You don’t want to spend time wondering whether it’s your club, your swing, or both that are holding you back. Get fitted as early as you can so that you have about a year’s roadmap for skills growth. ●      (41:16) Participating in a Pro-Am Tour may sometimes feel like a necessary evil, but it’s a long-term play. This is for a variety of reasons, including the opportunity to make lasting connections in the world of professional golf. People will remember your Pro-Am rounds.  Connect with Our Guest: Brianna Do: Instagram Tara Bateman: Instagram Brandi Naval-Bateman: Instagram Subscribe to our FREE Female Golfer Facebook Group: First T Crew [Behind the Scenes of Women’s Golf] Get in touch! 12. February’s Quick-9 Questions Including Playing Golf on a Budget

Tori sits down with Babes Golf Founder Alex Andersen, and Dobson Ranch Golf Course instructor Natalie Farahani.  Listen in as Alex and Natalie join us to answer listener questions and give their best tips on playing and planning golf events on a budget, and how to deal with feeling intimidated as a female golfer when entering this new world!  Key Takeaways ●      (8:38) Finding Clubs on a Budget as a Beginner: You don’t need the latest and greatest toys to grow as a player. Sporting goods stores such as Golf Mart in San Diego and 2nd Swing in Arizona can offer you a decent beginner or used set of clubs. You can get by just fine with a wedge, a 7, an 8, and a driver. And while it may not be the most exciting activity, just practicing your putting on a regular basis makes a big difference to your golf game in the long run. ●      (16:02) Lessons on a Budget. A coach doesn’t need to have trained a bunch of pros to be considered high-quality. If you’re on a budget, the best kind of coach is one who you feel comfortable around. More coaches are offering the first lesson for free. Shop around and find the right match, because trust and relatability goes a long way. ●      (21:25) Rounds and Courses on a Budget: Consider joining one of the smaller clubs in your area. They may not have the greatest views, but it isn’t difficult to find reasonable deals relative to what you’ll find at the more prestigious courses. In Arizona, you can get city passes at Encanto 18, Cave Creek, Aguila, Palo Verde, which give you discounts on green fees. ●      (28:16) Hosting Events on a Budget: A growing number of golf courses are eager to see more women on the green. Connecting with these clubs and sharing your vision-mission with them can do wonders when it comes to keeping event costs down. ●      (29:52) Plan early morning or early evening lessons. Most people have to navigate busy schedules to fit golf into their lives. Many golf enthusiasts are moms with full-time jobs. Try looking for coaches that do night training and driving ranges that are open late. Also note that a lot of courses offer junior golf programs. ●      (35:32) In a man’s world, knowing your golf game is vital. It can be really intimidating as a first-timer to begin your golf journey. It’s natural, and everyone goes through it. The best thing you can do is get familiar with the process and your own golf game as soon as possible. When you’re looking at a country club, ask the women there how the culture is before making a decision.  Connect with Our Guest: Alex Andersen: BabesGolf Website | Instagram Natalie Farahani: Instagram Subscribe to our FREE Female Golfer Facebook Group: First T Crew [Behind the Scenes of Women’s Golf]  Get in touch! 11. Every Shot Must Have a Purpose with Pia Nilsson & Lynn Marriott

Tori sits down with VISION54 co-founders Lynn Marriott and Pia Nilsson. They are internationally recognized and are the two highest ranked female instructors in America. The pair co-authored four bestselling books, including Every Shot Must Have a Purpose, which we dive into today. Listen in as Lynn and Marriott discuss the philosophy behind VISION54 before diving into four powerful principles for playing better golf: 1) Think small, play big. 2) Anger makes us stupid. 3) Make practice real. 4) Make pressure your friend. Key Takeaways ●      (5:19) “54” is a mindset and a process. Shooting 54 (trying to birdie every single hole in an 18-hole round) is a dream for any player. VISION54 comes down to keeping a mind open to possibilities. Professional golfers are distinguished primarily by a greater awareness of their strengths and gaps. ●      (14:12) Think small, play big. “Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.” Allow yourself to have big and compelling dreams. However, seeing those goals through to fruition starts with the tiniest, seemingly insignificant step. Know the factors that are in your control and those out of your control. ●      (21:42) Anger makes us stupid. Especially heightened emotions, anger included, blind us to perspective and coordination. During those all-too-familiar down moments in a game, the best thing to do is to let the negative emotions pass before making your next decision. Get the tension out of your body by sprinting to the next tee or doing a few jumping jacks. Celebrate all your good shots to raise your positivity all the while. In fact, emotionalizing your outcomes is one thing you can control on the course. ●      (28:18) Make practice real. “There is a big foundational mismatch,” says Pia, “between range culture and the golf course.” Many golfers tend to train the same movements using the same clubs in the same environment, committing them to muscle memory. But the reality is that golf is a game of variables, and no two games will ever require the exact same strategy. Make sure to do all three primary forms of practice regularly: maintenance practice, performance practice, and future practice. ●      (40:27) Make pressure your friend. Downplaying the intensity of the game might not actually be the best strategy. Instead, lean into the pressure, arousal, and adrenaline, if only to be incentivized to stay creative and on your toes. 10. The Reality of Becoming a Professional Golfer with Betsy Kelly & Leigh Klasse

Tori sits down with Betsy Kelly and Leigh Klasse to do a deep dive into all things women’s professional golf. Listen in as our guests talk about the experience of entering their very first USGA championship, as well as Leigh’s biggest lessons learned after over 60 tournaments and her thoughts on the upcoming USGA tournament on their home turf at Troon North Golf Club. Betsy breaks down the ins-and-outs of Q-School and the expensive reality of traveling for tournaments. Money aside, she discusses what it takes to prepare physically and mentally for tour status with the LPGA. Key Takeaways ●      (13:51) There are three stages to go through in the LPGA Qualifying School (Q-School): Become one of the top 100 out of 300 female applicants, compete for full Epson Tour status (whittling further down to the top 45) and, finally, complete Q-Series to get your LPGA card. ●      (26:06) You don’t make money unless you’re in the top 50 in the world. Women in the LPGA are struggling due to the high cost of participation. Every tournament which involves travel will set you back $2500-$3000 to enter, and there is no guarantee you’ll make that back, even if you’re one of the top golfers in the country. The most savvy players build a support network to have a place to stay in different states. That said, some USGA tournaments do offer the option to stay with a host family. Definitely take advantage of this option if available. ●      (37:42) The LPGA requires you to invest in your own caddy. This is yet another big expense that most players overlook until the last moment. ●      (52:16) There are two types of professional golfers: Those with “tour” status and those who teach professionally for a living.  Connect with Our Guest: Betsy Kelly: Instagram Subscribe to our FREE Female Golfer Facebook Group: First T Crew [Behind the Scenes of Women’s Golf] Get in touch! 9. What to Expect at Golf School with Milo Lines

Tori sits down with golf instructor Milo Lines and golf buddy, Kareen Larson.  Having just experienced two days at Milo’s Golf School, Tori and Kareen share their highs and lows alongside their key takeaways from the program!  Key Takeaways ●      (18:58) Milo’s golf school is for anyone who wants to see lasting changes in their golf game. Over the course of two days, you will get a chance to see where and how you fail, and how to then fill those gaps. Milo wants his students to walk away “with a fairly solid roadmap of where they’re trying to go and how they’re trying to get there.” ●      (26:08) Milo’s best lessons are half-day immersions. This time frame allows you to get the “golf school experience”. One-on-one coaching also helps you uncover your points of failure, learn why you’re failing, and put a plan in place to address those challenges. ●      (30:59) Focus on getting your driving to an A+ level. “You can’t play golf if you can’t drive,” says Milo. “I’ve never met a person who is a really good driver, who is not already a single digit or better. [...] If you’re long and straight, I guarantee you’re a low handicapper.” ●      (39:08) Find an instructor who speaks your language. Great credentials is one thing; the ability to translate that knowledge for you as an individual is another. The best instructor for you is someone who jives with your personality and understands and appreciates your learning style. ●      (41:24) Know your goal before your first lesson. Milo’s most productive lessons come when the student knows exactly what he or she wants out of their time together.  Connect with Our Guests: Milo Lines: Instagram | Milo Lines Golf School Kareen Larson: Instagram Subscribe to our FREE Female Golfer Facebook Group: First T Crew [Behind the Scenes of Women’s Golf] Get in touch! 8. Inside Look at Being a Country Club and Professional Caddie

Tori sits down with Tara Bateman and Michael Martin to get an inside look at being a country club and professional caddie. After a quick update on their golf game and a look back on their careers, Tara and Michael do a deep dive into the role of a caddie, how they should ideally interact with their players, what to keep (and keep out) of the bag, how they get paid, and best practices for tipping. Key Takeaways ●      (18:32) A forecaddie’s job is to go ahead of golfers to find where balls land, track shots, and discuss strategy for upcoming shots and putts. The group of four rides in a cart while the forecaddie stays one shot ahead on the tee to aid each one. Beware not to “overcaddie”, especially if your player prefers to trust their instincts. The best forecaddies focus on raising the player’s confidence, while respecting pace of play by stepping in to offer advice only when asked. ●      (25:41) When you’re playing golf, play fast and have fun. Even the best players go through that frustrating period halfway through a game where their strategy has fallen apart. Don’t worry about having your golf game judged by your caddie because the reality is that golf is a humbling sport! ●      (32:41) If you’re a newer golfer, “you’re not that good to get that mad”! Get clear on the fundamentals and focus your training around your gaps. Know the typical percentages so that you have perspective on the average and be able to lower your expectations. For example, if you have a putt over 15 feet, you are already in the upper percentile of players in that skill. ●      (34:58) If you want to be sure about how to pay your caddy, just go to the pro shop and inquire. Ask whether you’re paying base-plus-tip or tipping only, and also what’s a good amount to tip. There is no minimum, but anywhere from $20 to $100 is typical. 7. What Does Good Golf Look Like for YOU with Lou Stagner

Tori sits down with Lou Stagner, an Arccos Golf Data Insights Lead, Co-Host of the “Hack It Out Golf” podcast and one of the leading data research analysts on The PGA TOUR. Listen in as Lou explains what good golf looks like, not just on the expert level but also for those with a handicap inching towards average, whether 10 or 20. Key Takeaways (13:08) Hitting fairways is not all that important. In fact, according to Arccos data, fairways hit is roughly the same no matter the skill level. For women, those numbers are roughly between 50% and 54%. The real difference-maker, off the tee, is 1) keeping the ball in play and 2) getting longer, as there is a very strong relationship between your handicap and how far you hit the ball. The biggest problem in golf regarding distance for women is not enough shorter tees. If you have an average distance with a driver of 175 yards, play a course between 4400 and 4600 yards. (19:45) If you really want to understand your performance, focus on strokes gained. Aside from this, look at how many greens in regulation (GIR) you’re hitting. There is a very strong relationship between your skill level and how many greens you hit. (28:02) Fairways hit is not that important. Keeping the ball in play is important. When it comes to greens hit, scratch players are typically around 11, while 10-15 handicaps are around 5. Hitting more greens is absolutely critical, but like tee shots, you have to limit penalty strikes. Avoid bunkers as well. When there is a fairway bunker in play for you off the tee, you are typically better shifting away from that fairway bunker. Sometimes, the most appropriate target is in the rough. Do your best to avoid bunkers, water hazards, and the out-of-bounds. (35:37) It’s important to set the right expectations when it comes to wedge shots. Pick a specific target for every single shot you take, do what you can to land the ball on that target, then accept that the larger your handicap, the higher the area you’ll actually hit. Even the greatest players on the planet hit inside of a big zone with a wedge in their hands, and the gap widens the farther they are from the hole. (47:59) You will only beat your handicap about 20% of the time. If you played a round of golf and had net par, your score would be in the top 20% of all your scores. Regardless, don’t get too focused on outcomes. Net par is a good goal, but consider it after the fact rather than letting the pressure of hitting a number affect your game. (49:24) 10-handicappers average two putts from about 16 feet, which is a number everyone should strive for and is attainable through enough speed control training. As you get closer to the hole, you want to get every single putt past it. For a 10-handicapper, that distance is around 8 feet. The farther you are from the hole, the bigger percentage of putts you want to leave short, in order to get the shortest second shot possible. 6. Match Play Championship or Bust!

Tori sits down with friends, Gary and Shannon Shaw, and Marci DuBois. Tori, Shannon, and Marci chat about their recent experience at the 2022 Women's Match Play Championship at Aguila Golf Course in Phoenix. Key Takeaways ●      (19:55) Get used to playing different yardages. It's all-too-common to want to beat yourself up on the course when things aren’t going your way. We’ve all been there, and most players aren’t as “good” as you might think. Once you commit to playing with that mindset, one practical way to fill your gaps as a golfer is to expose yourself to different yardages. Growth really begins once you’re past the initial pain of trying something new. ●      (22:21) Start playing tournaments outside your country club. Similarly, playing in tournaments you are unfamiliar with—in an environment and among people you’re unfamiliar with, doing reps under pressure—will do wonders for you as a golfer. ●      (45:58) There’s always an opportunity to recover during match plays. “Just this year,” says Tori, “I’ve had two experiences where I had three down going into the back nine. I’d say, ‘Okay, I just want to get this over with. I just want to lose and go home.’ But I’ve now had two experiences at match play championships where I was down three going into the back nine, and have actually gone back to win it. It’s totally possible.” Connect with Our Guests: Marci DuBois: Instagram Shannon Shaw: Instagram Gary Shaw: Instagram Subscribe to our FREE Female Golfer Facebook Group: First T Crew [Behind the Scenes of Women’s Golf] Get in touch! 4. Golf Beliefs We Are LETTING GO OF in 2023!

Tori sits down with Kim Eaton to discuss seven unhelpful beliefs sent in by listeners to leave behind in 2023. These are paradigms that take up too much energy and do little, if anything, forour golf game. Key Takeaways (08:12)“I need to apologize upfront when I’m starting a round with strangers. ”They were where you were, once upon a time. Also, they’re probably not that good! And if they are good, they don’t care how you measure up. In fact, the better golfer they are, the morethey tend to concentrateon their own game. (15:04)“I need to be ‘good’ before playing in tournaments or on nice courses, or traveling for golf.”If you’re a brand-new player, then you probably shouldn’t be doing anyof these things anyway. To play in a tournament, you have to have an establishedhandicap index, which is your performance progression metric. You also have to knowthe rules. If you can afford to play on nice golf courses, go for it. (22:21)“I’m too old (64) to get better.”Nothing’s stopping you from taking a fewlessonsand making incremental improvements to a couple of aspects of your golf game. (25:03)“I’d like to start walking, but I’m a little worried.”It can often seem like you’rebeing left behind in a group, particularly if you’re the only one walking. But that’s usuallynot actually the case. Ultimately, if you can keep up, then it’s not a problem. (29:05)“I always let one bad shot dictate the rest of my game.”We’ve all had a few badshots or a poor front nine (ex. double bogey). Golf is hard; nobody’sperfect. Understandthat those bad shots are part of the game and, in fact, it’s often possible to recoverduring those last few putts. (33:42)“I don’t have enough time to practice consistently.”It’s not necessarily theamount of time you spend practicing that counts, but the quality of your practice. 15minutes of focused work is always many times better than mindlessly hitting a bunch ofballs for half an hour. (38:02)“I can’t hit my 7-wood/3-wood.”A 3-wood is one of (if notthehardest) clubs tohit. You don’t have to buy the best set of clubs there is. Have a beginner set with 10-12clubs, including a wedge, 7-iron, a 9-iron, and a couple of hybrids. In any case, it’s important to get fitted as soon as possible For more information about the Short Game 100 practice program, visit: ShortGame100.com. 3. 7 Habits I Guarantee Will Make You a Better Golfer with Jon Sherman

Tori sits down with Angela Hurt, as well as Jon Sherman, owner of Practical Golf and author of Amazon bestseller The Four Foundations of Golf. Angela and John fill us in on their golf game and goals for 2023 before breaking down the seven habits guaranteed to make you a better golfer! Key Takeaways (16:45) Habit #7: Practicing with intent. Many golfers go through what John calls “zombie range sessions” on the regular, thinking that the sheer repetition of mindlessly hitting balls hundreds of times will translate to better performance. But golf is about putting thought before, during, and after the shot. Practicing with intent involves considering your target, taking the shot, then assessing and adjusting. Rinse and repeat. (24:40) Habit #2: Choosing smaller targets. Most golfers are too conservative off the tee and too aggressive with their approach shots. A better strategy is to get the ball as far as possible off the tee. From there, aim at the center of the green and club towards the back yardage. (27:57) Habit #3: Growing your grit. Golf is a difficult game and it’s easy to lose your cool if the game isn’t going your way. Angela Duckworth defines grit as “perseverance and passion for long term goals”. For golfers, this means embracing a positive, solution-oriented, and long-term mindset for the game. (32:17) Habit #4: Reviewing your rounds. Make it a point to take five-to-ten minutes after every round going over as many shots as you can. Look for patterns—strategic mistakes, mental mistakes, ball striking, etc.—and figure out how to iron out those kinks for next time. (36:39) Habit #5: Gratitude. In John’s experience, unlike with most other sports, it’s easy to equate being a bad golfer with being a bad person. The best way to combat those feelings? With a healthy, regular dose of gratitude for all the good things that have come into your life through the game of golf. (42:14) Habit #6: Managing your expectations. Without managing our expectations properly, it’s easy to beat ourselves up over every mistake or setback, no matter how small. Golf can bring out the worst of that behavior. Growth and happiness take place when your expectations match your ability. (49:04) Habit #7: Having a process. Have a routine before every shot and use that routine on the practice range as well. Unlike most other sports, golf is a proactive rather than a reactive game. That is, you have around a minute to assess and decide your next move. With a process, you won’t get stuck on the ball during that minute of silence.   Grab a copy of The Four Foundations of Golf For more information on the Breaking Bogeys Coaching Membership, visit: BreakingBogeys.com. 2. What is a Handicap Index and Why Do I Need It?

Tori sits down with her sister Alix, the Arizona Golf Association’s Executive Director Joe Foley, and USGA’s Assistant Director of Handicapping Education and Outreach Lee Rainwater. Our guests discuss all things Handicap Index—what it is, how it’s calculated, why all golfers need one, and how to establish your own. Key Takeaways (18:53) A handicap index is a number that represents your potential or demonstrated ability. It’s tremendously beneficial for golfers at any level to have one, whether for competition purposes or simply to ensure fairness on the course when playing with family or peers. Your index measures what you’re capable of shooting, and not necessarily what you end up shooting. It’s a “portable” number which you can take with you course to course, tee to tee.  (26:39) Establishing your handicap index is a simple process. Simply walk into a pro shop and ask for a handicap index to get entered into their system. Download your Golf Handicap Information Network (GHIN) ID along with the GHIN app, input your number, and you can start posting scores right away.  (36:43) You can get a handicap index after as few as three 18-hole scores. Ultimately though, a golfer should achieve 20 18-hole scores and, from there, look at the eight best performances. Your handicap index is based on the average of those eight best performances.  (38:02) If you don’t want to get your handicap from a pro shop, there is another easy option available. If you prefer not to be affiliated with a specific facility, you can go to a state golf association’s website or to the USGA and get a handicap directly online. You will have access to a handicap while not necessarily being affiliated with a particular club. (45:36) Getting your handicap index through the USGA can make your journey to improving your golf game so much more efficient, not to mention more fun. The USGA index is the gold standard that most golfers subscribe to. With the Arizona Golf Association specifically, the cost to maintain your index ranges from $45-$55 a year—and this small investment includes all of the association’s other membership benefits. 1. 5 Things a Beginner Golfer (and Every Golfer) Needs to Know

For more info on our Breaking Bogeys Coaching Membership, visit: BreakingBogeys.com Today I sit down with Justin Klemballa, Director of Instruction at Paradise Valley Country Club and Forest Highlands Golf Club; Tameka Fox Hartman, Past Board Member at the Arizona Women's Golf Association; and Alex Andersen, Founder of Babes Golf. Tameka and Alex kick off the conversation catching us up on their golf game—along with Justin giving us a few priceless tips—before doing a deep dive into their five best tips that every beginner golfer needs to know! Key Takeaways (19:00) It’s all about the short game. It’s true: Nobody started playing golf because they like to putt and chip. But working on your short game builds a strong foundation, over time, for your full swing. (25:57) Most people aren’t that good. As with starting anything new, it’s easy to be intimidated by those who have more experience than you. At the beginning, everyone looks like a PGA Tour player. On the other hand, in Tori’s words, “I can verify that balls are not going far and they’re going cock-eyed. You’re not the only one!” Justin concurs, saying, “No matter what level you are, there is some really bad golf to be played out there, even on the highest level.” (30:57) When in doubt, ask. (38:02) Nobody cares about your game. Rather, pace of play is number one. This is easier said than done, of course. But simply being aware about pace of play will help speed up your game. Avoid getting lost in conversation and focus on keeping up with the group in front of you. (44:41) Just pick it up. Nobody has been banned from the game for making a single mistake. Failing to adhere to the dress code the first time around is a lesson to keep in mind for next time. Be open to learning and making mistakes, and you will improve as a golfer.
