#131 Is working from home working?

Hey there! Hello, hope you're doing well and had a great start to your day. This week has been quite interesting for me, from being drafted into a full day at the practice to a mastermind meet in London with fellow business owners. In my latest podcast episode, I dive into the details of these experiences and share insights from a mastermind group where we discussed challenges, strategies, and business growth. Wednesday in London: I met up with a diverse group of entrepreneurs, including real estate fund managers, business performance coaches, software SAS business founders, and more. We exchanged ideas, tackled challenges, and learned from each other. Mastermind groups are invaluable for gaining different perspectives and insights, especially in areas like organizational leadership and strategy. Thursday Team Day: This week marked a significant moment – the first time my entire team gathered in the office together after almost three years. While we've been working remotely successfully, I sensed a need to strengthen our team cohesion. In this episode, I share the leadership strategies and exercises I used to build trust, foster open communication, and address challenges within the team. Trust-Building Exercises: I draw inspiration from Patrick Lencioni's work, particularly "The Five Dysfunctions of a Team." One exercise we did was the "Personal Histories Exercise," where team members shared where they grew up, their siblings, and unique childhood challenges. This vulnerability-based trust is crucial for fostering healthy conflict, commitment, accountability, and achieving collective results. Redefining Remote Work: While I still advocate for autonomy in work, I've realized the importance of occasional in-person interactions. Our team day reinforced the benefits of face-to-face communication and personal connections. It's about finding the right balance and understanding that remote work doesn't mean sacrificing the value of shared physical space. Looking Ahead: I've committed to more regular team meetings, sharing achievements, discussing challenges, and reinforcing our collective vision. Additionally, I'll delve into Patrick Lencioni's "Death by Meeting" principles in future episodes, exploring the four types of meetings for maximum productivity. #130 Is Paying For Coaching Really Worth It?

Hey there! Hope you're having a fantastic start to your day. We're already into the second week of January, back to the grind and reality. Have you kicked off your January 2024 with a bang, executing those goals you set last week? I've been on a quest to level up my coaching business, searching for the right coach to take it to the next level. In today's session, I share my thoughts on whether paying for coaching is really worth it. Personally, coaching has been pivotal for me. Two years ago, I hired a book coach, Jenny Carter, to guide me through writing my book. Her accountability and guidance were instrumental in making my goal a reality. Success requires three elements: knowledge, skills, and action. Without a plan and the necessary skills, goals can remain just aspirations. That's where coaching comes in – someone to guide, mentor, and hold you accountable. Reflecting on my own journey, I've invested over £100,000 in self-improvement. Why? Because the best investment is in oneself. It's about gaining the knowledge and skills needed to take the right actions for tangible results. This week, I invested $14,000 to unlock a specific aspect of my marketing and elevate my coaching business. The goal? To double the business in the next few years. If you're feeling stuck, frustrated, or uncertain about your progress, consider investing in yourself. The cost of inaction far outweighs the investment in knowledge, skills, and coaching. I break down the three areas of our firm (factory, office, and brains) and explain the importance of having systems in all three areas. 🔍 In the factory, we use Glide to manage our workflow, including deadlines, job stages, and quality control. In the office, we use TaxCalc for our CRM and Virtual Cabinet for document management and client correspondence. We also use Signable, integrated within TaxCalc, for electronic signatures. #110 Things I DON’T Do In My Practice

Hi there! In this episode, I'm sharing with you some of the things I don't do in my practice that might help you determine what to eliminate from your plate. As practice owners, we often do things the way they've always been done, but there might be ways to streamline and free up your time. I hope this episode gives you some ideas. I start by discussing the technical work I don't do, including preparing tax returns, accounts, and bookkeeping. I also don't review work anymore, as I trust my team to handle it. Client contact is another area I don't do anymore. I don't have any client meetings or even client emails or calls. Instead, I've passed off client relationships to my client managers, who handle the bulk of client communication. I also don't handle any administration, AML work, risk assessments, or employee and client onboarding. Instead, I focus on marketing and driving inquiries into the business. I handle the high-level strategy and direction of our marketing efforts and work with agencies to deploy tactics. If you're interested in learning more about what I don't do in my practice, give this episode a listen. It might inspire you to reevaluate what's on your plate and delegate more effectively. Hey there! In this episode, I talk about offshoring and outsourcing. These are great options to manage operations throughout your firm, especially if you're struggling to find and retain good talent. Outsourcing involves engaging an outsourcing outfit, normally a company based overseas, to outsource some of your work to. This is great for things like payroll or year-end accounts, where you need some extra help. Offshoring, on the other hand, involves engaging an employee or team member who sits offshore, away from your shores. They become part of your team and work under your direct supervision and control. I share my personal experiences of using both outsourcing and offshoring, as well as stories and experiences from others. I also discuss the difference between outsourcing and offshoring, and how to find talent directly and through an agency. #108 PAC Members LIVE Event - Debrief

Welcome to my debrief of the PAC members LIVE event! During the event, we discussed various topics related to user research and how to effectively evaluate user feedback. We also compiled a document containing different user research methods. One of the key takeaways from the event was the importance of understanding user needs. We talked about how to design and implement projects that address those needs and how to analyze data and interpret results to inform future decision-making. I was particularly excited about the session on winning new clients. We had a panel of practice owners share their experiences and insights on how they were able to attract new business. It was great to hear about the successes they had using the power positioning course and how they were able to find their niche. We also talked about pricing and re-pricing strategies for existing clients. This is an area where many accountants struggle, but we heard from members who had gone through the process and increased their revenue by £80,000 to £100,000 using the gap analysis approach. Finally, we discussed how to attract and retain the best talent for our teams. This session was particularly valuable for me, as a practice owner, and I appreciated hearing from other members who had successfully scaled their businesses and shared their experiences on how to structure their teams. Overall, it was a fantastic event that provided a lot of value and inspiration for me and other members. #91 The Value Iceberg - and pricing

Studies show that ninety percent of an iceberg is below the waterline while ten percent of it remains above the waterline. I liken an iceberg to the total value your prospects get from your services. The ninety percent of the iceberg below is akin to the actual value your prospects would get from working with you while the ten percent is the perceived value they can see, feel, and believe they will get from working with you. How much you can charge for your services is first tied to the perceived value (the tip of the iceberg) they can see and feel. So if your prospects can’t perceive enough value from working with you, they won’t agree to be charged a higher price, but if they can see it, they will agree with the price.
