In the early hours of July 14th, a resident of Highfield Road in Neston heard banging on his front door. On his doorstep, he saw a middle-aged woman in a state of distress. The homeowner didn’t know her well, but he knew she lived further down the street. Through heaving sobs, his neighbour said: "I've hurt him. I've hurt him really bad. The Victorian era was an interesting time of development — advancements in machinery and modern medicine must have seemed like a new world. That said, it was also a time of great social inequality and hardship. Art was used to start a dialogue on the social issues that plagued Britain, and the period gave rise to some of the most notable artists and writers in history. While many artists were seen as eccentric characters, it was well-known that eccentricity lends itself to a creative mind. It was also well-known that a fine line existed between an extraordinary mind and a troubled one. As Aristotle once said, “There is no great genius without some touch of madness.”*** LISTENER CAUTION IS ADVISED ***   This episode was researched and written by Eileen Macfarlane. Edited by Joel Porter at Dot Dot Dot Productions.Script editing, additional writing, illustrations and production direction by Rosanna FittonNarration, editing assistance, additional writing, and production direction by Benjamin Fitton. To get early ad-free access, including Season 1, sign up for They Walk Among PLUS, available from Patreon or Apple Podcasts.Listen to our companion podcast ‘They Walk Among America' here: https://play.acast.com/s/they-walk-among-americaMore information and episode references can be found on our website https://theywalkamonguspodcast.comMUSIC: Time Cannot Take Our Love by Joshua Spacht Rag Doll by Wicked Cinema Crooked Man by Wicked Cinema St Mary by Chelsea McGough And Stephen Keech Garden by Grant Borland Wolgrim by Cody Martin Etheria by Cody Martin They Walk Among Us is part of the Acast Creator Network - https://www.acast.com/theywalkamongusSOCIAL MEDIA: Twitter - https://twitter.com/TWAU_PodcastFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/theywalkamonguspodcastInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/theywalkamonguspodcastSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/theywalkamongus. The sun was starting to set on The Blackbird Leys estate at around 4:30 PM on December 10th, 1994. Henry Sheriff was decorating the back room at his home on Monks Close when he was interrupted by a loud bang, a noise that echoed throughout the nearby properties. Henry wondered if it was someone joyriding again or a car back-firing. A short time after the deafening sound, a 999 call was made to the police, but when the operator answered the phone, nobody spoke. All she could hear on the other end of the line was a man groaning and gasping for breath…*** LISTENER CAUTION IS ADVISED ***   This episode was researched and written by Emily G. Once the match finished, a gang of agitated spectators gathered outside and began to start trouble. At first, it was just quarrelling between opposing fans before bottles and rocks were hurled through the air. The police made their presence known to dissipate the crowd, and eventually, the officers successfully diffused the situation. With their job done, they left, but the next morning the police were contacted and asked to return to Abington. As Britain began to recover from the great depression, the lack of employment led to a rise in crime, and gangs operated under cover of darkness, cracking safes in businesses across London. The outbreak of the Second World War in 1939 plummeted the nation into a period of uncertainty and turmoil. While young soldiers fought valiantly on the front lines across Nazi-occupied Europe, each nation utilised its own secret network of spies, to try and infiltrate enemy forces and gather information using covert tactics in an effort to win the war…*** LISTENER CAUTION IS ADVISED ***   This episode was researched and written by Eileen Macfarlane.Edited by Joel Porter at Dot Dot Dot Productions.Script editing, additional writing, illustrations and production direction by Rosanna FittonNarration, editing assistance, additional writing, and production direction by Benjamin Fitton. To get early ad-free access, including Season 1, sign up for They Walk Among PLUS, available from Patreon or Apple Podcasts.Listen to our companion podcast ‘They Walk Among America' here: https://play.acast.com/s/they-walk-among-americaMore information and episode references can be found on our website https://theywalkamonguspodcast.comMUSIC: Casualty by Shimmer St Mary by Chelsea McGough And Stephen Keech Sleep by Stephen Keech Stopped Time by Moments Dorset Summer by Moments After the Fog by Moments Falling by Adrien Walther The Anarchist by Cody Martin Ways of the Hunt by Cody Martin Tainted By Darkness by Cody Martin They Walk Among Us is part of the Acast Creator Network - https://www.acast.com/theywalkamongusSOCIAL MEDIA: Twitter - https://twitter.com/TWAU_PodcastFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/theywalkamonguspodcastInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/theywalkamonguspodcastSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/theywalkamongus. It had been a particularly bitter winter, and the ice in the canal was just beginning to thaw. As the men strolled by the waterway, they spotted something floating in the murky canal. Some say the perfect time to visit Scotland is in the Autumn, around the Halloween period. Halloween originates from the Celtic festival of the ‘Feast of Samhain’, celebrated in Scotland, Ireland and on the Isle of Man from October 31st until November 1st. During this festival, people lit bonfires as a way to ward off unwelcome spirits. Many of these traditions were carried on through the centuries and influenced what is known as Halloween today. Each year, thousands of tourists flock to Scotland. But on Halloween night, 2014, a mystery was beginning to unravel, a mystery that still endures eight years later… *** LISTENER CAUTION IS ADVISED ***   This episode was researched and written by Emily G. Nottinghamshire has a rich history of stories and legends. It's the home of Robin Hood, an outlaw and a rebel who stole from the rich to give to the poor. Robin Hood and his band of merry men lived in Sherwood Forest, hiding from the Sheriff of Nottingham and rebelling against the tyranny of a cruel prince. As Nottingham's famed hero, Robin Hood’s story is known worldwide. But, for every hero, there is a villain. A villain is defined in the dictionary as a cruelly malicious person involved in or devoted to wickedness or crime. Villains are thought to be an integral part of the plot of a story. Their role is to oppose the hero, but sometimes there are villains with no agenda or purpose… *** LISTENER CAUTION IS ADVISED ***   This episode was researched and written by Eileen MacfarlaneScript editing, additional writing, illustrations and production direction by Rosanna FittonNarration, editing, and production direction by Benjamin FittonListen to our companion podcast ‘They Walk Among America' here: https://play.acast.com/s/they-walk-among-americaBecome a ‘Patreon Producer’ and get exclusive access to Season 1, early ad-free access to episodes, and your name in the podcast credits. Bonus Episode 6

You may not be aware of who Ken Dodd is — a surreal stand-up family-friendly Liverpudlian comedian and ventriloquist, Dodd began his career in the 1950s but really had his hay day in the 60s, 70s, and early 80s. His is a distinctive looking man — his prominent features, a head of fluffy wild hair and protruding teeth, were often accompanied by a red, white and blue feather duster, a prop that Dodd called his tickle stick. *** LISTENER CAUTION IS ADVISED AS THIS EPISODE CONTAINS ADULT THEMES AND DESCRIPTIONS THAT SOME LISTENERS MAY FIND DISTRESSING *** COURT DOCUMENTS and information from the following news organisations were referenced in this episode: BBC NEWS, EXPRESS, TELEGRAPH, GUARDIAN, LIVERPOOL ECHO, YORKSHIRE POST, INDEPENDENT, DAILY MAIL, METRO, DAILY EXPRESS and SCOTSMAN. A Confession (Part 2 of 2)

PLEASE LISTEN TO A CONFESSION (Part 1 of 2) FOR PART ONE OF THIS TWO-PART CASE. On March 24, 2011, Christopher Halliwell was arrested in connection with the suspected kidnapping of Sian O’Callaghan. Halliwell subsequently admitted to the murder, leading police to not only Sian’s body but the remains of another victim. After DNA testing police identified the woman to be Swindon native, Rebecca Godden-Edwards. During October 2012, Halliwell was sentenced to a minimum of 25 years for Sian’s murder, but a judge ruled that evidence gathered during the day of Halliwell's arrest was inadmissible. He couldn’t be charged for the killing of Rebecca Godden-Edwards — despite him leading police to her remains. But Why? (Part 2 of 2). This episode is brought to you in association of with ITV’s new true-crime drama ‘A CONFESSION’ from Oscar nominated and BAFTA winning writer Jeff Pope. Detective Superintendent Stephen Fulcher had been with the police force for 25 years. Following a missing persons appeal in 2011 — that quickly unravelled into a double murder inquiry — he couldn’t have imagined that his actions, to find the truth, would not only bring about the end of his career but almost cost him his life (Part 1 of 2). This episode is brought to you in association of with ITV’s new true-crime drama ‘A CONFESSION’ from Oscar nominated and BAFTA winning writer Jeff Pope. Bonus Episode 5

David Smith, a former member of the SAS, was due to receive a large sum of money as a company he owned was being sold. David and his partner Elizabeth were excited as the windfall meant they could buy their dream home and permanently move in together after a committed long-distance relationship. Life appeared to be going well. That was until Elizabeth suddenly fell ill. She was assessed by doctors and consultants, who broke the news that Elizabeth was likely suffering from the early onset of motor neurone disease. But not everything was as it seemed. Sometimes the sweetest lie is easier to swallow than the bitter truth. *** LISTENER CAUTION IS ADVISED AS THIS EPISODE CONTAINS ADULT THEMES AND DESCRIPTIONS THAT SOME LISTENERS MAY FIND DISTRESSING ***  More information can be found on our website at http://theywalkamonguspodcast.com For early advert free access and other extras visit https://www.patreon.com/TheyWalkAmongUs MUSIC: Anguish by Kevin MacLeodDream Culture by Kevin MacLeodRelaxing Piano Music by Kevin MacLeodImmersed by Kevin MacLeodFresh Air by Kevin MacLeodMusic featured on this episode can be purchased through iTunes here: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/artist/kevin-macleod/204264696All music sourced from http://incompetech.com/ and used under an Attribution License - http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ SOCIAL MEDIA: Twitter - https://twitter.com/TWAU_PodcastFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/theywalkamonguspodcast/ Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/theywalkamonguspodcast/ Acast - https://www.acast.com/theywalkamongus Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/theywalkamongus. Bonus Episode 4

On the evening of Friday, February 3, 2017, 95-year-old Denver Beddows, and his 88-year-old wife Olive, received a visit from their son and daughter-in-law at their semi-detached home in Woolston. Denver, or Charles to those that knew him, had been struggling to care for his wife of 65 years, as she had been involved in a car accident which had left her increasingly anxious. Both her physical and mental health had been deteriorating and, in turn, this put an increasing strain on her husband. Denver’s son and his daughter-in-law left the property once they helped their father with the household chores. Less twenty-four hours later, Denver would be in police custody, and his wife would be lying in a critical condition after being attacked with a hammer. *** LISTENER CAUTION IS ADVISED AS THIS EPISODE CONTAINS ADULT THEMES AND DESCRIPTIONS THAT SOME LISTENERS MAY FIND DISTRESSING *** More information can be found on our website at http://theywalkamonguspodcast.com For early advert free access and other extras visit https://www.patreon.com/TheyWalkAmongUs MUSIC: Oecumene Sleeps by Kai EngelLaserdisc by Chris ZabriskieLostfrevr by Ars SonorAll music sourced from http://freemusicarchive.org and used under an Attribution License - http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ SOCIAL MEDIA: Twitter - https://twitter.com/TWAU_Podcast Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/theywalkamonguspodcast/ Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/theywalkamonguspodcast/ Acast - https://www.acast.com/theywalkamongus Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/theywalkamongus.
