how to do scary uncomfortable things

054.  in this episode, tammie challenges you to write your past self a thank you letter.  because all the stuff your past self did is what got you to the great things in your life today.  she gives you lots of prompts so you can write an amazingly thoughtful letter to your past self.  this is a perfect exercise for everyone, not just those who celebrate thanksgiving. So if you look around, you look around at your life. And look at all the good things that you have. Look at the physical things in your space. Look at the people in your life, the relationships that you have, the accomplishments that you've achieved, the experiences that you've had, the things that you've overcome the things that you've learned, the things that you've survived, the adversity that you've overcome. The times when you have something deep into sadness, and grief and pain, all of those things got you to where you are right now. And they helped create the life that you are living right now. So I thought it would be really cool for us to take a moment to write our past self a letter saying thank you. And when you're writing that letter telling your past self, thank you make sure that you include why, what did you learn from that? How did you improve your skills, maybe it helped you find love or meaning. How I Set Goals for the New Year

009.   This is a meaty episode so you might want to listen to this one when you have a pen and paper handy.  Listening to this after january 1st?  Who cares?  It’s never too late to work on your goals for the year.  There is no perfect start date. REFLECTION - start with reflection - what do you want more of?  Less of?WHERE ARE YOU NOW?  Look at the main pillars of life and rate where you are right now in those areas.  1 is not satisfied at all, 10 is it couldn’t get any better.  this a zero judgment zone.  Then pick up to 3 areas you’d like to focus on in 2020.  Write them down.  How do you want to FEEL at the end of 2020?  We start with the WHY you are choosing the goals or the habits you are choosing.  And i believe that if you dig down to  the deepest meaning of the WHY, it is just an emotion that you want to feel.  So, i try to come up with 5 feelings that you deeply want to feel at the end of each day, each month,  the year.  Once you have your list of 5 feelings, imagine a person who feels that way.  Maybe it’s future you, maybe it’s someone that you look up to.  If you are going to be a person who experiences these feelings, what thing are you doing to make that happen. Make a brainstorm of all the thigns that come to mind that are actins or results that you would be doing if you were feeling that way.  WORD OF THE YEAR: Some people also like to choose a word of the year or a phrase of the year.BRAINSTORM L Now you’re going to brainstorm a list of possible goals for 2020. Write  down alll the things you can think of that you think would be a cool goal.  Don’t worry about HOW you will do it, don’t worry about if you have the time or the money or the skills or the emotional capacity to do them.  CHOOSE GOALS::  Let’s pick a few goals that will get you closer to where you want to be at the end of the year.  Take your list of feelings, your word of the year and the 3 life pillars that you want to focus on and you’re going to make up to 7 goals for 2020.  You want each goal to be getting you closer to that list of feelings, you want it to improve at least one of the 3 life pillars you’re focusing on, and you want it to align with your word of the year.  You also want to make sure you’re not choosing too many big, giant goals at one time.  You want to set yourself up for success here.  Write them down.  You are already ahead of the game.  Writing down your goals makes them more powerful. When choosing your goals, pick what works for you.  Not what you think is right or what someone else would approve of.  This is your life.  This is your day.  Live it for you.  When you are living your truest life you are showing others they can do it to.  If you are capable of having  the idea of this goal, you are capable of accomplishing it.  Don’t doubt yourself.  Just go after it. Your goal is not going to be easy everyday.  It is not going to be fun everyday.  It doesn’t have to be permanent - keep at it for a quarter and then revisit.  Don’t worry about doing it the right way.  You do you.  You have your goals.  Now how the heck are you going to keep going after them?  Listen to the episode to find out! i can help you feel better and get more done in 6 months. if you loved what i talked about in this episode, you're going to love working with me. want to see if we are a good fit for 1:1 coaching? go to https://showupsociety.com/coaching and schedule a consult. join my newsletter for 1-2 times a week tips, fun links, and inside scoop.hang out with me on instagram @showupsociety
