As a University of Florida graduate, Jade Sklaver, founder of StyleChild, majored in Public Relations and pursued many fashion related internships while still in school. After completing rotations at Barney's New York, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, and major fashion PR firms, she had no doubt that was the path she was headed down. Working at a few major labels after graduating, Sklaver found herself being hired by Norma Kamali as her right hand person in design and production. The opening on the team proved to be an invaluable opportunity and would ultimately shape her future. Sklaver gained experience working with factories, fabrics, and design in addition to learning product development and production. After another corporate fashion position, and marriage, Sklaver made her way to South Florida and had her daughter, Liv Jaymes. Liv became the inspiration for what came next: StyleChild.  While pregnant with Liv and yearning for a passion project, Sklaver started building the foundation for what is now StyleChild, a kid's shoe company specializing in functional and stylish shoes at affordable prices. The business started with reselling cute and trendy "no label" sneakers and as popularity grew, Sklaver knew she needed a brand of her own to stand behind. After a major life change, Jade decided to take a leap of faith and commit to work directly with the factory to design, manufacture, and produce sneakers under her own label StyleChild. Since then, StyleChild has grown into over 25 exclusive styles, retails in stores all across the country and in Canada and has a highly trafficked website. Most recently, Jade and her small team opened a by-appointment (virtual and in-person) showroom and warehouse in Boca Raton, Florida which has given her customers a personalized shopping experience - especially important during the pandemic. Dedicated to being the best mother and entrepreneur, Jade feels passionate that others can have that same work-life balance and do something they love. Dr. Suzanne Vickberg is a social-personality psychologist, certified coach, and divorce revolutionary. She is the author of Divorce by Design: What if Staying or Leaving Aren’t Your Only Options. Suzanne is an enthusiast for finding creative solutions to life's thorny challenges, divorce being among the thorniest of all. Thirteen years after the end of her marriage, Suzanne, her ex-husband, his new wife, and their kids are still a family, and they all live in the same house together. They weren’t shattered by the end of their marriage. Instead, their family is fortified. Suzanne’s ex is not her enemy, and his new partner is not a threat. They are both her allies. Their divorce is not a tragedy or a failure. Indeed, it just may be their greatest accomplishment. Although Suzanne and her ex-husband decided to end their marriage, they have never stopped nurturing their family. Suzanne has written the book Divorce by Design from her own lived experience as someone who has created a better divorce, but also as a psychologist with expertise in creative problem-solving. She developed this expertise working at Deloitte, one of the world’s largest and most prestigious consulting firms, where she coaches leaders and helps teams tackle their toughest business challenges. In sharing Divorce by Design, Suzanne aims to help people envision new possibilities for their own struggling marriages and divorces, and to offer hope and inspiration during a time when people may see little of either. In the book, she not only tells her story, but she shares her expertise in creative problem-solving, and offers practical advice for anyone who wants a third option, one that's better than staying miserably married or tearing their family apart. Suzanne has earned a PhD in social-personality psychology from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, as well as an MBA from the Stern School of Business at New York University. She is a trained professional coach, certified by the Coactive Training Institute and the International Coaching Federation. Her other books include Business Chemistry: Practical Magic for Crafting Powerful Work Relationships and The Breakthrough Manifesto: 10 Principles to Spark Transformative Innovation (forth coming), both co-authored with Kim Christfort. Suzanne is intrigued by the many ways we can integrate empathy and creative problem-solving into our work, our lives, and our relationships. These are her favorite topics to think, talk, and write about. Although she lives in New Jersey, Suzanne has strong Minnesota roots. When she can get to the woods, mountains, or a lake, those are her happy places. She’s an unapologetic introvert, so if she’s not out in nature, she’s probably on her sofa with her books, her space heater, and her dog, Lucy. Of course, she sometimes ventures into the world of other humans, to do something fun with her kids, hang out with friends, or volunteer in her community. Those moments bring her joy. Finding your Passion After Divorce: How to Spend Your Kid-Free Time with Things That Fill your Cup; with guest Jade Sklaver

When we become parents, we never imagine spending time away from our children. Divorce changes that, and many of us are left with 50% of our time without them. This week, Jade Sklaver joins Moms Moving On to discuss how she turned her time away from her daughter into a successful business. Jade and I touch on the importance of finding a hobby and your purpose during your time away from your children. She recently launched a Kicks Starter affiliate program that allows other mothers to start their own business selling the StyleChild label in specific markets.  To get an extra $100 when you sell your engagement ring to Worthy by going to https://worthy.com/moms Learn more about your ad choices. What Being a Child of Divorce Teaches You About Life, Marriage, and Parenting; with Tara Clark of @ModernMomProbs

"How will divorce affect my kids?" is one of the first questions any parent will ask themselves when deciding to end a marriage. While we don't have a crystal ball to predict the future, we do have endless resources to turn to for guidance, advice, and information related to how divorce affects children. The best resources in my opinion are the grown up children of divorce; the adults who can look back and clearly identify what affected them, how it felt, and how it has shaped them today. On this episode of Moms Moving On, we hear from good friend and talented Author, Entrepreneur, and Instagram personality Tara Clark, of @modernmomprobs. Tara experienced divorce as a child and gives us an open and honest take of how divorce affected her life both as a child and now as a mother. Tara Clark is an author, content creator, mother, and the Founder of Modern Mom Probs. Tara began her career at Nickelodeon, overseeing social media for Nick Jr. and Nick@Nite. After becoming a mom and recognizing a hole in the online space for moms to authentically connect, she used her social media skill-set to launch Modern Mom Probs in 2017. She has since amassed a following of over 700K women, solidifying herself as a humorous and authentic voice of a generation of women, and her brand as a go-to resource for modern moms. Tara published her first parenting book, “Modern Mom Probs: A Survival Guide for 21st Century Mothers” in April of 2021. Additionally, her work has been featured in prominent publications including Buzzfeed, Today, Parents.com, Romper and Yahoo Life. As an advocate for maternal mental health support, Tara held the honor of being the 2021 Spokesperson of The Blue Dot Project, the national symbol for maternal mental health survivor-ship, support, and solidarity. In late 2021, Tara launched Modern Mom Style Box, a clothing rental subscription service that gives members access to unlimited styles for one flat monthly fee. Protecting Your Children from High-Conflict, Alienating Behavior While Co-Parenting; with Filmmaker Ginger Gentile

Just a quick note before we get into today's episode. The topic of parental alienation has been a bit of a controversial one in the world of divorce and co-parenting. It's important to remember that the views, ideas, beliefs, and opinions expressed in this episode are those of the guest, and not necessarily shared by the Moms Moving On team.  That said, both mothers and fathers alike have found themselves on the receiving end of hurtful comments made by the other parent to the children. Children almost never escape the wrath of a high-conflict co-parent, and in some extreme cases, this type of behavior can result in full alienation of the other parent. That's where our guest, Ginger Gentile, comes in. Ginger Gentile is an activist documentary filmmaker dedicated to addressing ignored issues and shedding light on solutions. Her film, Erasing Family, talks about the harsh realities of parental alienation which premiered at Lincoln Center in 2019 and showcased the trauma children face in high-conflict custody battles. Ginger passionately advocates for those who don't have a voice. You can learn more about Ginger, here. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

How to Leave Your Marriage When You Are a Stay-at-Home Mom and Worried About Your Financial Future

It seems impossible, right? The thought of leaving your marriage even though you haven't worked outside of the home in ages and have no financial security of your own. What if I told you that it wasn't impossible and that you didn't have to be like the many people who choose a life of unhappiness out of fear that there is just no other way? There is always another way. In my podcast with Bill Farias of Farias Family Law in Massachusetts, we discus the fact that there are many possibilities for a woman to leave an unhappy or potentially dangerous marriage despite her financial position. Attorney Bill Farias is the firm’s founder and managing attorney. His focus is on family law, and mainly divorce, custody and support matters. He chose family law because it provides an opportunity to help people who are at a low point in life. He loves that people come to him in the darkest of times, and that he has the chance to not only get them through it, but to actually turn their circumstances into a positive experience. That’s what this firm aims for in every case, both in terms of the quality of the legal work and the client service. Before law school, Bill was a case manager at the Department of Children & Families in MA. This experience allowed him to work closely with families, and required work on issues of custody, mental health, substance abuse, medical care, schooling, domestic violence and other issues that are typically addressed in divorce and custody cases. Bill dedicated the early part of his career to building litigation skills. He worked as an assistant district attorney and tried a number of cases before juries and judges. When there are contested issues in family law, it’s important that the attorney has the skill, experience and courage to push the client’s position. For fun, Bill likes to read and to travel with his wife Kenia, and two little girls, Gabriella and Emma. They have a golden-doodle Allie and a shi-tzu mix Teddy. Bill grew up playing hockey and volleyball, but now he’s too old and slow, and gets sore easily, so he stopped. He now channels his competitive drive toward litigation. Bill’s obsessed with building a firm that combines top-quality legal representation and elite client service and can find him on Instagram @fariasfamilylaw Learn more about your ad choices.
