If You Have Freedom, You Have Wealth
Charlie Munger once said: “More investors don’t copy our model because our model is too simple. Most people believe you can’t be an expert if it’s too simple.” The simplest investing ideas are truly the best.
Here’s a simple idea: If you have freedom, you have wealth
A lot of people fall into the trap of endlessly chasing more money. They wait to feel fulfilled until they have a certain amount of money in stocks or the bank. But wealth is more a feeling than a number.
Wealth isn’t just about accumulating money; it’s about financial stability and freedom. It’s the ability to weather financial emergencies, the freedom to make choices that aren’t dictated by financial constraints, and the peace of mind that comes from knowing you’re financially secure.
High earners can still struggle financially if they spend recklessly and save little. On the other hand, those with modest incomes can accumulate substantial wealth by living frugally and saving diligently. This is where simple investing ideas come in.
When you focus on setting your life up in a way that you have freedom, you can call yourself wealthy. And you can feel free even if you’re not a millionaire.

What Seneca Taught Me About Being Content and Happy
The DF Show is back! New episodes coming out weekly.
In this episode, I talk about a life lesson I learned from the Stoic philosopher, Seneca.
Seneca taught that happiness doesn’t come from always wanting more, but appreciating what we already have. Contentment comes from understanding and valuing our present achievements, rather than constantly striving for the next big thing.
We all want a bit more. That’s just natural. We want a bit more income to buy the stuff we want; more time to achieve more things; more strength and stamina to experience more of life, and so forth.
And here’s the thing: It’s okay to strive for these goals. We don’t have to let ourselves stagnate. But we also need to take some time to appreciate what we already have.
It’s something I like to journal about regularly. I look back and see how far I’ve come from when I started. When you’re consistent in executing your goals, you’ll go far, even little by little. And that’s something to be grateful for.

How to Save Your First $100K in 5 Years
The late Charlie Munger, renowned investor and long-time partner of Warren Buffett, said this during a 1998 annual shareholder meeting of Berkshire Hathaway:
“The hard part of the process for most people is the first $100,000. If you have a standing start at zero, getting together $100,000 is a long struggle for most people.”
This is so true. In this episode, I talk about my own journey. Here are the stages.
The First Three Years: The Foundation
Year Four: Start Reaping
Year Five: Compounded Reaping

The Matthew Effect: Why the Rich Get Richer
The Matthew Effect, also known as the principle of accumulated advantage, is not only a platitude; it’s a scientifically recognized phenomenon that has been studied by sociologists and economists.
Coined by sociologists Robert K. Merton and Harriet Zuckerman in 1968, the term derives its name from a biblical parable found in the Gospel of Matthew.

Being inconsistent and timeless investing wisdom
Today, I'm sharing my thoughts on a topic that might surprise you: inconsistency.
Yes, you heard right. We often hear that consistency is the key to success, but let's be real - life isn't a straight line.
There are bumps, detours, and sometimes, complete standstills. And that's okay. Inconsistency is not a failure; it's part of the journey. The second half of this episode is about investing wisdom.
Have you heard Warren Buffett's quote, "If you have more than 120 or 130 I.Q. points, you can afford to give the rest away. You don’t need extraordinary intelligence to succeed as an investor"?
This quote resonates with me deeply. It shatters the myth that only geniuses can succeed in investing. In reality, patience, discipline, and emotional stability are the traits that make a successful investor. And the good news?
These are traits you can learn. So, whether your journey is about personal development or investing, remember - progress, not perfection, is the goal.
So join me today as we explore these ideas further. Whether you're navigating the unpredictable road to self-improvement or trying to make sense of the investment world, I hope this episode offers you some insight and encouragement.
Remember, it's all about progress, not perfection.

Uptrend vs Downtrend: Why Everything is Directional
In life, things usually follow a trend. The trend is either upward, and things are getting better, or it’s downward, and things only get worse. Even when things are moving sideways, it often feels like a downtrend because everything else around you seems to keep moving up. Learn more about that in today's episode!

How The World Can See You As An Authority
If you truly want to help a lot of people, you still need to be mindful of the principles of persuasion. No one trusts a doctor who shows up in a skater outfit. But if a skater puts on a white lab coat and carries a doctor bag, we instantly think it’s a doctor. So skills matter. But perception matters too. That's the power of authority. And on this episode, I talk about how to create it.

Discussing The Findings Of The Biggest Study On Procrastination
I recently conducted a survey on my newsletter. 2,219 people participated.
With 88% of the workforce admitting that they procrastinate at least one hour a day, it’s safe to say this is a widespread issue.
This result is also in stark contrast with previous research that showed 25% - 75% of people procrastinate. It's more common than we assume.
On this episode, I discuss the findings, give more background about the study, and talk about why we procrastinate.
Here's a link to the study and the slide deck:http://dariusforoux.com/procrastination-study

The Power of Compounding
Are you working on a lot of things? Is your attention not on one thing? There’s a big chance that you will not achieve the best possible results.
Or worse: You might fail if you try to achieve many things at the same time
The reason is simple: Most of us believe that success happens all at once. Real life is different.
Keller and Papasan put it well: “Success is sequential, not simultaneous.”
Things add up. You learn one skill. Then another. You finish one project. Then another. Over time, your accomplishments add up to form an impressive feat.
This is especially true for money. Most people earned their money over time. Few people make a big financial splash.
Warren Buffett is the perfect example of sequential success. You can achieve big things with small actions, that build up over time. In this video, I explain how Buffet’s net worth grew exponentially over the years due to a simple concept: The Power of Compounding.

How to Read 100 Books A Year
Does your reading list keep growing? Did you buy books that you’ve never read? It might be time to cross more books from your list this year than ever.
If you’re reading less than you want, you’re not the only one. A few years ago, I looked at my Goodreads page and noticed that I had read only five books that year. That realization frustrated me.
I love books, but since I graduated college in 2011, I’d been reading fewer books every single year. My work and life got in the way of reading as much as I wanted.
Why read 100 books in a year? You read because you want to learn from other people’s experience. Otto von Bismarck put it best:
“Fools learn from experience. I prefer to learn from the experience of others.”
If you want to get anywhere in this world, you need to educate yourself, and to educate yourself you need to read—a lot.
In this week’s video, I show you how I read 100 books using these 5 tactics:
1. Buy In Bulk: It costs money to buy books, and it costs you time to read them — I’m assuming you have both if you’re reading this. Everyone can make time. And if you don’t have money, find a way to make or save money.
2. A(always) B(e) R(eading): I read a minimum of 1 hour per day on weekdays and even more during the weekend and holidays.
Find a way to read around your schedule and your life situation. Don’t make excuses like you’re tired or too busy.
3. Read Relevant Books Only: Have you ever read a book that’s supposedly amazing and you don’t get it? Well, read books that are close to what’s going on in your life. There’s a book for everything you can think off.
4. Read Multiple Books Simultaneously: There are no rules to reading so you can do whatever you want. At times, I’m reading 5 books at once. I might read 50 pages of one book in the morning and then read another book in the afternoon.
5. Retain The Knowledge: Knowledge is only good if you use it. To retain knowledge, you need a system that helps you do that.
Thanks for listening!

How To Set Yourself Free From The Money Trap
You don’t need to be rich to be free or independent. Too many of us are held captive by money. Rich AND poor are both consumed by it. But that’s not freedom. That’s the money trap.
On this episode, I share 2 tips that will help you break free from the money trap. To get over your fear of money, you need to do two things:
1. Acquire income producing skills
2. Save as much as you can
You’re free to do any type of work you want. And when you have valuable skills and always improve yourself, you will never be out of work.
In contrast, if you have a job, and become too loyal to that job, you forget about yourself.
You _always_ work for yourself. Never forget that. You are responsible e for your own career. And you need to think about yourself first. I prefer to have an employee like that to someone who always does what they are told.
The former is always trying to grow, the latter accepts the status quo. And then finally, save your money so you can quit any job you have. That’s freedom. You work because it’s you _want_ to make yourself useful. Not because you have to.

Price’s Law Explained: Why Only A Few People Get The Majority Of Rewards
Price’s law is something that can truly change the outcome of your life and career. It can make you or BREAK you. On this episode, I explain why that is and how you can use it to become successful.
The rule says: 50% of the work is done by the square root of the total number of people who participate in the work.
I didn’t know about Price’s law until recently when I watched a lecture by Dr. Jordan Peterson, psychology professor, and author of 12 Rules For Life (https://amzn.to/2Iodkgf).
Understanding the underlying idea of Price’s law can make your life a lot easier. Look at your current profession. Are you in a position to create substantial value? If the answer is no, move on to a different place where you CAN.
Become very good at what you do. That’s the only way you can provide value. We must be realistic. There are no shortcuts. It takes time to be good—let alone be great.
When you provide more value, you feel better, plus you’ll earn more. Not a bad side-effect of doing great work. Look, life is not symmetric nor linear. Only a few people in every domain are responsible for half of the results.
Hence, find the domain YOU can be the important minority — you’ll also get the majority of the benefits. Then, let me know if your life isn’t better.

Skill Stacking: These 5 Skills Increase Your Odds Of Career Success
One of the best strategies to build a career is to acquire valuable skills. I learned about this concept from How To Fail At Almost Everything and Still Win Big by Scott Adams. He calls this concept Talent Stacking (I don’t like the word talent because it implies nature, I prefer skill because it implies nurture), and writes:
“Successwise, you’re better off being good at two complementary skills than being excellent at one.”
You simply have more chance of career success if you have more skills. Think about it. If you’re a one-trick pony, your opportunities are limited. But if you have multiple skills, you’re simply more valuable. And that’s what career success is ultimately about. It comes down to value. How much value can you give to people or organizations?
“What Skills Will Make Me More Valuable?”
1. Productivity—My whole blog’s focus is on productivity for one reason: When you’re a person who can get shit done, you will always find a way. With solid productivity skills, you can learn anything. That’s why I think it’s the first thing we must learn because it makes developing all the other skills a lot easier. Put simply: Productivity is the mother of all skills.
2. Writing—The ability to translate your thoughts into words makes it easier to do our job. When you write in a clear and simple way, you can express yourself like very few people can.
3. Psychology—A basic understanding of why we do what we do can help us to understand ourselves and others. You don’t have to become a therapist. As long as you know the basics of psychology, you’re better at dealing with other people; and yourself.
4. Persuasion—This is the art and science of communicating in a way that resonates with people. When we’re good at persuasion, we are better at leadership, sales, holding conversations, public speaking, at anything else that requires influencing others. Influence is more about effective communication than anything else.
5. Personal Finance—We often don’t think about managing our money. But when we get closer to retirement, we think, “Why didn’t I start earlier.” The time to start managing your personal finance is NOW.

Can You Ever Be ‘Done’ With Personal Development?
I might as well ask you: “Can you ever be done with eating food?” “Of course not!” you would probably answer. Well, some people actually believe they can be finished with personal development. They stop reading books or quit going to the gym. These are the people who follow trends.
We need to realize that life is built from fundamentals and that it does not consist of some popular thing that’s hot at the moment. Once we identify those fundamentals, we can start to improve and strengthen them to establish longevity. How?
By repeating them. Over and over again.
Then, over time, those fundamentals turn into a strong lifestyle. All you need is patience. And before you know it, you are the person who continually dedicates his life to becoming better. No temporal hot thing can seduce you. Nothing halts your improvement; you’re part of a process that ends when life ends.

Journaling As A Spiritual Exercise
Writing every day has truly changed my life. Through writing, you reformulate important life lessons in your own words. And because of this repetition, the wisdom of life becomes your second nature. That’s when you live the ideas.
So even though you are writing and talking to yourself, you ingrain the wisdom in your character so that it becomes a part of your character.
To me, writing is the most effective way to make the intangibility of your thoughts real. And that’s one of the greatest things in life. Marcus Aurelius, one of the most well-known stoic philosophers often wrote for himself. And I encourage everyone to do it too.
On this episode, I share tips that you can use to get started with journaling every day.

The 20/80 Rule Of Effective Thinking
How much time should I spend thinking instead of doing? It’s one of the biggest questions I struggle with. One side of me says “without doing you will never achieve anything.”
Another side says “without thinking things through, you might end up doing the wrong things.”
Thinking by itself is worthless because if you never do anything, what’s the use? And if you only act without thinking, you probably end up in jail or in a ditch. That's why this topic is so important. But most of us never even consider living by a thinking/doing ratio.
I live by what I call “the 20/80 rule of effective thinking.” I think for most professionals in today’s age, that ratio of thinking vs doing is sufficient. Even though I'm a natural thinker, I need to remind myself to execute more than I think.
Again, it’s not the ratio that counts, it’s the quality of your thinking. And ultimately, the quality of your thinking impacts the outcomes you achieve.
Remember that poor outcomes in life are excusable but poor thinking and decision-making are not.

Stop Being So Distracted
There’s this idea in Eastern and Western philosophy that we must learn how to enjoy the present moment without getting distracted by the past or future.
But that's hard because our natural state of mind is to be lost in thought. We are constantly thinking, stressing, worrying, and being preoccupied by a force that seems outside of control.
And if that's not bad enough, there are many external distractions that mess with our head.
On this episode, I share how I stopped being distracted and started living in the present.

Stop Chasing Money And Do This Instead
Money doesn’t make you happy. And yet, we need it to live. So what do we do? Try hard to make more money? Or, be content with what we have?
The problem is that both options come with high costs.
We’ve all heard about the research that says you won’t be happier if you earn more than $75K or some other magic figure.
We’ve all heard about these studies by now. And yet, it doesn’t make a bit of impact on the way we live.
Instead of becoming financially free, it’s better to become emotionally free. In this video, I share why.

Retain More From The Books You Read In 5 Simple Steps
I’m often asked: “How do you remember the information you read in books?” In this post, I’ll explain my system.
1. Have A Purpose—Only read books that teach you how to overcome your current challenges.
2. See Yourself As A Teacher—Sharing knowledge is a great application. You might not be a teacher, but if you act like one, you’re already applying knowledge.
3. Highlight & Make Mental Connections—The more connections you make between pieces of information in your brain, the better you remember it. I do that by making a lot of notes.
4. Visualize & Imagine—Another great way to make connections in your mind is by visualizing what you’re learning. We’re visual learners, and our memories are also visual.
5. Immediately Apply One Piece Of New Knowledge—Look at your life. Ask yourself: How can I grow? That can be personally, financially or spiritually.
Understand that growth doesn’t happen by itself. Learning new skills, earning more money, having a great relationship — it all takes hard work.
But you can make that growth a lot easier if you apply the things you learn in books. Remember: Knowledge alone is completely useless.

Practicing Stoicism 5: What will be will be
"Don’t wish for things to happen the way you would like them to. Rather, welcome whatever happens. This is the path to peace, freedom, and happiness.”
That’s a quote by the stoic philosopher, Epictetus. On the latest episode of my podcast, I deconstruct this idea and give my perspective on it. Sometimes things happen that we didn’t expect. But we should not wish for things happen the way we want to. That only results in unhappiness. If we accept and welcome whatever happens, we will be free.

Skill Stacking: The Most Important Skills Of My Career
About three years ago, I made a discovery that changed the course of my career and life. I’ve been working many different jobs since I was 17. I also studied business and marketing, getting a bachelor’s and a master’s degree. In 2010, I started my first business.
I acquired many different skills. And when I started my blog in 2015, I could use them to make an impact.
When I read How To Fail At Almost Everything and Still Win Big by Scott Adams (https://amzn.to/2D4kDGo), I understood why that was. He calls this concept Talent Stacking (I don’t like the word talent because it implies nature, I prefer skill because it implies nurture), and writes:

Always Protect The Downside
What’s a big goal or dream that you have? Do you want to start a business? Become a fulltime author? Travel the world? Become financially independent? Change careers?
I bet you’ve thought about it, and at some point thought, “I’m not sure I can achieve that.”
If you’re anything like me, you always think about risks that are involved with making a big move in life. And that’s not a surprise. We’re collectively risk averse. We truly hate risk. I’ve never met someone who said, “I love to lose everything!”
But what can we do about our risk aversion? On this episode, I share my strategy for protecting the downside.

The secret of improving your writing skills is to get training. Ernest Hemingway once said: "It’s none of their business that you have to learn to write. Let them think you were born that way.” But how do you learn to write? How do you practice?
On this episode, I share my system for improving your writing skills. I’ve used it to write nearly 250 articles and 3 books. I hope you find it useful.

"I Don’t Know What To Write About And My Writing Sucks" Here’s What To Do About That
Never have good ideas to write about? Or do you think your writing sucks? Listen to this!
I recently published an article about why everyone should form a daily writing habit. It’s one of the few universal habits that can improve everyone’s life.
I received several questions about that article (read the full article here: https://dariusforoux.com/daily-writing-habit/). Mostly, readers said they didn’t have any ideas to write about. Also, some of us are overly critical about ourselves.
On this episode, I share tips for everyone who wants to write more.

Making & Breaking Habits: Don't Focus On HOW—Focus On WHAT
Over the years, I’ve adopted many different “positive” habits.
To me, a habit is positive when it improves the quality of my life. A lot has been written about forming habits.
How hard is? How long does it take? What’s the best way to break habits? How do we adopt new habits?
My experience is that everyone can adopt any habit they want. There’s only one condition though: You need a good reason to make a change.
And in 99% of cases, the reason to change comes from personal suffering, sadness, and hurt. At some point, you can’t stand your current behavior anymore.
Don’t worry about how you will change. Focus on what habits you want to form and why.

How To Stay Focused When Life Is Chaotic
In a perfect world, everything is steady. You can make plans that actually come true 100% of the time. You can anticipate things in advance.
But as you and I both know, that’s not how life works.
In real life, a single random (and unexpected) event can suddenly screw up all your plans, goals, and good intentions to make a change.
On this episode, I share how you can stay focused when that happens.

How To Train Yourself To Stop Complaining
Do you have plans, goals, ideals, or outcomes that you want to achieve? And do you get frustrated when things don’t go according to plan?
If so, I want to share a simple, yet powerful idea with you on this episode.
I learned this from Jocko Willink’s book Discipline Equals Freedom (https://bit.ly/2w2BEM8). The idea is very simple. Jocko believes that complaining when things go wrong is useless.

Why I Love An Empty Calendar (Sometimes)
What’s the purpose of productivity, doing work, and getting things done? Some people think it’s only about the rewards.
I’m not that type. I enjoy the process of doing work. But only if it’s useful work.
And to do useful work, I need to be organized. However, there are times that I use an empty calendar to maximize my output.
On this episode, I talk about why that is.

I'm Starting A New Blog
I started my first website and blog in 2011 when I started my first business. At the time, blogging was already very popular for businesses. In fact, some "experts" said that blogging was dead.
That's so funny to me. People make these outrages claims all the time.
When I started my personal blog in 2015, it was exactly the same.
"Blogging is dead! Social media and video is where you need to be!"
Really? My social media activity is close to 0. And yet, my articles reach close to 250K people a month.
My whole strategy is blogging. Nothing more. Nothing less.
So no, blogging is far from dead. In fact, over the past year, I've been getting at least 4 emails a week from people who want to start a blog.
I noticed that there's a need for practical information about the business of blogging.
Hence, I'm starting a new website where I will be sharing everything I've learned about the business side of blogging.
It's called Business of Blogging.
And I just registered my domain at Bluehost: businessofblogging.net.
It's not live yet. That's because I want to take everyone who's interested in blogging on the journey—from the start.
I'm very excited about this next step in my career as a blogger. Life is about forward motion. And this definitely feels like a step forward for me.
I hope I can help new bloggers with the lessons I've learned in the past seven years.
I'm also starting a separate newsletter where I will be sharing content about blogging. Since there's no website yet, please join my newsletter on: http://dariusforoux.com
From there, I will keep you posted on the progress.
In case you also want to start a blog, I'm hosting mine on Bluehost. I've partnered up with them a while back to give my readers a discount.
Coincidentally, they are now celebrating their 15th birthday with a special rate of $2.65/mo for 36 months (July 16/17). That's the best hosting deal I've ever seen.

5 Tips To Get Rich Slowly
What’s your money strategy? Do you even have one?
If not, it’s not uncommon. Until two years ago, I didn’t have a financial plan, whatsoever.
Even though I’ve been reading about money, finance, and investing ever since I made my first few bucks as a teenager, I never created a financial plan.
But now, I think every single working professional needs a financial strategy. How do you spend your money? How much do you save? What are your thoughts about debt? How do you invest your money? How much money do you need to retire?
These are questions that every person who makes money must answer.
Let’s face it. If you want to retire comfortable (I’m not even talking about living a luxurious lifestyle), you need to get rich.
In this article, I recommend 8 books that will help you to do that: http://dariusforoux.com/books-to-get-rich/

Here’s Why Time Off Work IMPROVES Your Work And Life
What do you do when you feel tired or overwhelmed? Do you power through? Or do you take some time off?
In the past, I thought that you should always power through — no matter what. Now, I still think that way when it comes to life in general. You can’t quit taking care of yourself and your family.
A sense of responsibility is one of the most powerful motivators in life. But I’m not talking about a lack of motivation here.
I’m talking about taking time off work. But there’s still a massive taboo on taking time off. Some people think it’s for losers. Others think it’s about escaping your work.
After all, “If you love your work and life, why do you even need a break?”
Good point, smart ass. Here’s why time off actually IMPROVES your work and life.
Leonard Mlodinow, a physicist, who also co-authored two books with Stephen Hawking, recently shared scientific research in his book Elastic about taking time off. He demonstrates that taking time off work improves our well-being:
“Though some may consider “doing nothing” unproductive, a lack of downtime is bad for our well-being, because idle time allows our default network to make sense of what we’ve recently experienced or learned.”
People who never take time off to do nothing are short-term focused. “I want to reach my goals! NOW!”
But as always, short-term thinking harms your long-term development and growth. What happens when you power through work and burn yourself out? In most instances, your results suffer, and you become less productive.
In some cases, you even become depressed — which will set you back even longer.
It’s much better to prevent burn-out or a decrease in your overall work performance.
Dale Carnegie, a self-help pioneer, and author of How to Stop Worrying and Start Living, said it best:
“So, to prevent fatigue and worry, the first rule is: Rest often. Rest before you get tired.”
So take time off work strategically throughout the year.
That’s what I just did too, and in this article, I share 5 benefits that I’ve found: http://dariusforoux.com/time-off/

Listen To This If You Feel Misunderstood In Your Career
Do you ever feel misunderstood by others? Maybe you feel that people at work don’t get you. Or that your friends are not on the same page.
Maybe others truly don’t get you. But that’s not because of them, it’s most likely because of your own behavior. On this episode, I'll tell you why perception is reality.
Look, no one cares about your real intentions. Not because they are heartless or selfish. It’s because people simply don’t have the time to conduct a psycho-analysis on every single new person they meet.
That’s why we have heuristics. We make decision short-cuts all the time. And one of the shortcuts we make is to judge what we see.
Now, that might not be the best thing. It’s always better to collect more information before you judge someone.
But the truth is that heuristics work. They make our lives easier.
There’s nothing you and I can change about that.
You might wonder “How do I change other people’s perceptions?” The answer lies in the science of influence.
When I mention influence to people, they often think it’s something “fake.” They often say things like, “I don’t want to fake it till I make it.”
But the science of influence has nothing to do with that or snake-oil salesmen tactics.
Persuasion and influence revolve around two related questions:
1. How does our behavior influence the behavior of others?
2. How does other people’s behavior influence our behavior?
No matter what you do, start applying the perception is reality mindset to your life, right now.
The next time your spouse thinks you’re lazy, maybe that’s you made her believe you are. And if people at work think you’re bad at receiving feedback, maybe that’s because you made them think you’re not coachable.
Look inwardly. Change your behavior for the better. And always be mindful of how others perceive you. Especially, if you want something from them.

Stop Caring About What People Think—Speak Your Mind
Last week, I published an episode about why I avoid toxic people (http://dariusforoux.com/toxic-people/). I mentioned that I think less than 1% of the population has values.
You wouldn’t believe how many people were offended by my opinion. “How do you know it’s less than 1%!” And a bunch of nasty words. Two people even emailed me a whole essay about why it’s “wrong.”
People were truly hurt. They thought I was “wrong.” Ironically, in the same article, I mentioned that if you feel hurt, that’s because you decided that.
But here’s the thing: There is no truth. I talk about this in my book, THINK STRAIGHT (https://amazon.com/dp/B077NJWFR3).
Everything that’s presented as a fact in life is, in reality, an opinion. So when people try to challenge your opinions, know that they are playing a useless game.
There’s only YOUR truth.
Friedrich Nietzsche, the German philosopher who had a profound impact on western philosophy, famously said: “There are no facts, only interpretations.”
When Nietzsche said that there are no facts, he meant that we, as human beings, ultimately rely on our interpretations of reality. There’s no way to confirm reality objectively.
That doesn’t mean nothing is real and that we’re all living in a big dream. We just have to realize that facts are not the same thing as the truth.
That simple thought saves you a lot of energy because it means no one can be right or wrong. Don’t bother with convincing people with different opinions of the “truth.” It’s just not a practical thing to do. Save your energy for other, more useful things.
So stop caring what others think! It doesn’t matter. (http://dariusforoux.com/say-what-you-think/)
Remember: There’s no universal truth or higher authority in life. You can say and think whatever you want.
No one will stop you as long as it comes from a good place. There’s one condition though: Take ownership of your words. If you’re wrong, admit it with confidence. And be respectful.
That will also boost your self-confidence. Give it a try.
Thanks for listening!

How To Surround Yourself With People Who Want The Best For You
“You’re the average of the five people you spend your time with.” It has become such a cliché. But I don’t think that we truly understand the impact that other people can have on us.
The great Stoic philosopher, Epictetus, said this in his Manual For Living (http://amzn.to/2Gi2hBq):
“Avoid fraternizing with people who don’t share your values. Prolonged association with those with false ideas can only tarnish your thinking.
Look at it this way. Would you give $1000 to the people in your life if they asked for it? If the answer is no, stop giving the people who don’t share the same values as you, your time.
I’ve narrowed down the list of people I spend 90% of my time with to my direct family and my two best friends. Other than that, I spend my time working and exercising. That’s what I mostly do. And I’ve never enjoyed my life this much.
So how do you surround yourself with people who want the best for you? Here are 5 tips:
1. Avoid toxic people
2. Get comfortable with being alone
3. Surround yourself with books, videos, podcasts, audiobooks of people you identify with
4. Find people who have virtuous values
5. Give, Give, Give

Why Planning Is Everything And Discipline Equals Freedom
“What should I do next?” Is what you should never think to yourself.
You can have all the plans and goals in the world, but if you don’t know how you’re going to make them happen, you’re lost.
Dwight Eisenhower said it perfectly: “Plans are nothing; planning is everything.”
When you plan your days, you know what you have to do. And when you do what to do, you do more!

5 Tips To Improve Your Persuasion Skills
How do you get a raise? How do you get good at networking? How do you sell your products? How do you convince people of something you believe in?
These are all questions I’ve thought about throughout my career. And I’ve learned that no matter how productive or good you are, it means nothing without persuasion skills.
Because what’s an artist without an audience? Or a leader without a following?
I always try to learn more about persuasion because it's a topic you can never know enough about. Plus, it's something you apply every single day during the conversations you have, emails you send, and calls you have.
Persuasion matters. That’s why I asked Katrina Razavi, an entrepreneur and communications coach, to share her favorite tips on my podcast.
You’ll learn how to:
1. Identify and kill your social nerves
2. Approach anyone, anywhere
3. Have smooth conversations

What I've Learned in August: Conscious learning, overcoming setbacks, and why you should stretch
Welcome to a new segment of this podcast. At the beginning of every new month, I talk about the things I’ve learned during the previous month.
1. Keep a list of “What I’ve Learned” for yourself. For your personal development, and to make sure that everything you learn sticks with you, it’s good to keep a list. It’s simple. Just open a note and add new things to it as you go through a month. The point is that you want to be more conscious about learning. That’s how we retain more of the stuff we learn.
2. When you deal with setbacks, focus on learning instead of goals. Everyone deals with failure. What’s important is how you get out of a negative mindset. I do that by getting excited about new things to learn.
3. Stretch your muscles! Most importantly, your hip flexors and hamstrings. Those muscles are the biggest pain points for desk workers.
