TPS 117: Pioneering Mums – Pinky and Farmer From PinkFarm
“Pinkfarm” has been created by 2 friends on a real food journey; learning, sharing, creating, inspiring and challenging politically correct nutrition. A country girl living on a farm on the beautiful Atherton Tablelands with a bustling house of 5 children and a city girl living in a metro Sydney townhouse with 1 child.
They focus on incorporating traditional foods, cultured foods and healthy fats into their daily lives and inspire each other to walk the talk. They prioritise eating breakfast like a King and eliminating processed foods from their lives. They, along with their families have achieved better living without refined sugar on a daily basis.
They have helped many people overcome the dilemma of trying to work out where they can purchase their starter culture from by creating one of the first national databases of people who are happy to share their kefir grains or kombucha SCOBY with you, which you can find on their pinkfarm.com.au website.

TPS 101: Irena Macri – Eat Drink Paleo
Skip the diet, just eat healthy- we like the sound of that! Today we are chatting to Paleo-enthusiast, Irena Macri, who is renowned for her popular Paleo blog, Eat Drink Paleo. Irena embraced the Paleo lifestyle a few years ago when she watched her mum, a seemingly healthy and active woman, go through two cancers. Irena became more aware of her own health, attempted various trends and discovered Paleo in late 2011. Through her own research Irena realised Paleo is not a diet in the way we think of diet, but a lifestyle philosophy. Besides switching to a Paleo way of eating, Irena also left her stressful job, became more active, and decided to improve her sleep. As a result she feels much happier and healthier, and has lots of energy throughout the day. Currently based in London Irena brings a youthful, fresh & accessible 80/20 approach on her quest for great health and great tasting food and will bring out her first cookbook, originally self-published, on the 28th of January, with a second Paleo cookbook due later in 2015. We’ve got lots to talk about so lets get to it, welcome to the show Irena Macri.

TPS 91: Edible Insects Series Part 2 – Mariangela Veronesi And Rudi Verspoor From Bugs For Life On Increasing Food Security In West Africa Via Edible ...
Grass hoppers, locusts, meal worms, bamboo worms and crickets- what do they all have in common? Not only do they have amazing nutritional value being a great source of protein and micronutrients, these insects are widely available and low cost- financially and on the environment. In food insecure locations, edible bugs can all play a major role in preventing malnutrition in children and pregnant women. Today we are lucky enough to be speaking with Mariangela and Rudi from Bugs for life, about their planned work in Benin, West Africa where they will be involved with social and scientific research which will centre on finding out more about the variety of insects eaten, their role in local diets and their cultural importance. To share with us about the project we would like to welcome to the show Mariangela and Rudi.

TPS 89: Paleo Meet Up Groups Around Australia In One Interview AKA The Paleo Circus
We hope that you’re ready for a show of epic proportions today. I’m very excited because we get to highlight what I think is one of the most important facets of the Paleo lifestyle. I know that most of us are across the fact that Paleo is more than just nutrition it’s about thinking, moving and eating like we were designed too BUT for me the key to bringing this all together and being successful is tribe. While we are lucky enough to have access to almost endless resources we can never discount the value of being a part of a likeminded community. Soooo not content on doing things by halves we thought we’d like to have a crack at staging our very own Paleo Circus, roll up roll up because we are joined today by reps from 5 different Paleo groups right across Australia.

This weeks show is for anyone that has ever avoided doing something because they think it’s just too hard or too big to tackle. We often talk about the power of perception and the role our mind plays in what we can achieve so we’re aiming to really break down the steps to success into chunk size pieces that we are all capable of doing.
This weeks guest most of you actually know quite well. He is not only someone that Steve and I look to as source of inspiration and great knowledge but he works hard and plays hard as well – welcome to the show our very own barefooted caveman Dr Brett Hill.

TPS 84: Edible Insects Series Part 1 – Pat Crowley From Chapul Cricket Bars
We love a good mission statement because we think that understanding the principles and the motivation
behind your actions is so powerful. Today’s guest is actively getting people excited about sustainable
living and when we think about the massive consumption and use of resources that goes in to modern
agriculture it makes sense that we should be taking a close look at not only what we are eating but
how it arrives onto our dinner plate. Pat works for Chapul which is a company with a simple goal – to
build a more sustainable future by introducing incredibly efficient insect protein in a delicious, organic
product..their tasty Chapul bars. They believe passionately in sustainable use of our precious water
resources and how’s this for a statistic, agriculture absorbs 92% of all freshwater consumed globally. At
Chapul they believe that change starts with what we eat, and it starts with all of us. Pat subscribes to the
view that our actions today can positively impact the lives of tomorrow and I for one certainly want to
find out more about the role that we can all play in this so lets get stuck in and welcome to the show Pat

TPS 83: Brynley King Of Banaban Virgin Coconut Oil On Her New Cookbook Book – Going Coconuts
Preparing for today’s show I found myself reflecting about pre-paleo Steve and Sarah compared to current Steve and Sarah. Anyone that knows us will tell you how much we love our food and how we delight in getting stuck into the latest flavour sensation and I know that Dr Brett is a big foodie also. I’d like to share a bit of a flash back which shows a pretty dramatic shift in our thinking and our idea of treating ourselves. A while ago a trip to the movies would’ve consisted of generally some kind of sugary, chocolatey treat which we probably would’ve demolished during the previews and then been left wanting more, however fast forward to now and a night at the movies consists of something more along the lines of a bag of organic coconut crunch which is this amazing air dried toasted flakes of coconut which keeps us going strong until the end credits as well as satisfying the urge for something juicy delicious and crunchy. So while some people might think we are a little bit wacky I actually delight in realising how far we’ve come.
Today’s guest therefore is very welcome because she plays a huge role in ensuring that our favourite Paleo movie snack as well as beautiful quality organic coconut oil which we would also be lost without, is available for us all to enjoy.

TPS 80: Dr. Amy Myers – Autoimmunity, Gut Health, And Why Fermented Foods Might Not Be Helping You
Here at That Paleo Show we love a good strong statement and we don’t think it gets much better than our guests philosophy- Get to the root. Learn the tools. Live the solution. Dr Amy Myers wears many hats including Teacher, Physician and Author of The Autoimmune Solution: A Revolutionary Plan to Prevent and Reverse the Full Spectrum of Symptoms and Diseases due for release January 2015
.
Helping people is Dr Amy’s passion and today we look forward to discussing how she found what she believes to be the best way to heal people. Like us Dr Amy believes that health shouldn’t be viewed as a cookie cutter solution and instead practices Functional medicine with the view that each of us is unique in our genetic makeup and physiology. She advocates that what ultimately causes illness in one person is not the same for another, and treatment for each will therefore be different. This sounds like a brilliant basis for some wonderful discussion so lets get stuck into it, welcome to the show Dr Amy Myers.

This week’s guest was originally on the show way back in episode 32. He is the Coaching Director and owner of FUNC fitness in Canberra and is passionate about enabling others to develop their awareness of Functional Fitness. He is all about movement first and exercise second. With a strong background in various disciplines including mixed martial arts and strength training, he certainly is qualified to talk to us about moving efficiently. Now most of you know Sarah likes to do some research before each show and she got very excited stalking Dave on the internet because firstly she came across some very impressive kick boxing footage which was then backed up with a video of a pretty solid Crossfit workout. Anyone that knows Sarah will tell you that martial arts and throwing weights around are a few of her favourite things. So regardless of the kind of movement you enjoy today’s show is sure to be a corker full of great tips and content to help you make the most of your daily exercise.

Recently we had Jo Whitton from Quirky cooking join us and she spoke all about how she uses her thermomix to make healthy Paleo Cooking really simple. Today’s guest is a Nurse, A Thermomix consultant and fitness fanatic who follows a Paleo style diet with lots of raw foods! Like all of us she loves food and loves learning new ways to prepare it. TPS 74: Jo Whitton of Quirky Cooking – Allergy Friendly, Wholefood Recipes to Delight and Inspire Food
We’re so to have this particular guest on the show this week, she is a permanent fixture on our personal Facebook and Instagram feeds and comes up with amazing and wonderful scrumptious ideas that keep cooking interesting, easy and fun and I’m not the only one who thinks so! Whenever “Quirky Cooking” comes up in conversations, usually the response goes something along the lines of, “oh is that the lady that cooks fancy Paleo Stuff in her Thermomix?” While the answer to this is of course yes, Jo Whitton is so much more than the lady that cooks stuff in her Thermomix. She is an inspiration to thousands of people on a daily basis and proof that healthy eating doesn’t have to be boring. Through her blog and social media and more recently her very own cookbook, Jo shares her message that food intolerances and allergies don’t have to make life difficult. Hopefully after today’s show Brett, Steve and Sarah will all have mastered the art of using our newly acquired Thermomix’s to their full capacity BUT more importantly, even more people will know that ‘Quirky Cooking’ is not only the lady that cooks and creates great healthy recipes but also the lady responsible for opening people’s eyes to the possibility of wholesome food that tastes wonderful, is easy and fun to make, and meets the needs of those with diet challenges. So if you have a family of fussy eaters, know or cook for anyone with food allergies or are just after some good old healthy foodspiration and tips to make your life in the kitchen easier, get set as we welcome to the show Quirky Cookings Jo Whitton.

TPS 72: Paul Jaminet – The Perfect Health Diet
This weeks guest has an amazing and diverse career. He is scientist with a PhD in physics, as well as being an Astrophysicist, turned Internet entrepreneur and executive, turned strategy consultant and economist. His wife is a molecular biologist and cancer researcher, can you imagine the dinner conversations?
More recently they have been investigating the influence of diet upon health. After adopting a low-carb diet in 2005, they immediately noticed their energy, vitality, and sense of well-being improve significantly. Since then they have spent a number of years refining their nutrition, and have successfully healed their own “middle-age” and chronic health problems through diet. Naturally throughout this process they have learned a great deal about the benefits – and pitfalls – of these diets and have documented this wisdom in their book “Perfect Health Diet” This book is an amazing read and really helps to connect the void between the broad based intuitive primal approach to health and the scientific facts.

This week you’re in for twice the fun as we chat to a powerhouse duo that have combined their powers of sass and Paleo cooking to create one of the most exciting and passionate cookbooks around.
We had such a great time chatting with our favourite Civilized Caveman last time that we’ve brought him back but with the added bonus of a special addition to join in the fun. Both of today’s guests are amazing Paleo foodies and a total crack up. We got to meet George and hear his phenomenal story a few months back which left us all feeling super inspired and we guarantee he’s got plenty more awesome left in the tank. Today we also get to meet Juli, the creator of paleOMG, a ridiculously great blog that you should all get across pronto. TPS 69: Kale Brock – Fermented Foods Made Easy
We’re doing something a bit different on this weeks show- pretty much because we can but more so
because we think you, our beautiful listeners, will find it really handy, so get your pen and paper ready.
Today’s guest is fun, quirky and knowledgeable and in 2011, he decided it was time to spread the word
that healthy living is incredibly easy, and absolutely enjoyable; Nice Life, and making health fun, was
born. He is a wellness researcher and journalist and has worked in the health and wellness industry for
nearly 10 years. Working with some of the best Naturopaths in Australia and other health personalities
like David Wolfe, Kale has developed a well-rounded and practical healing approach which has seen
hundreds of people achieve abundant health! He has recently released an e-book called
Fermented Foods; The Art of Pro-Biotic Nutrition and this is what we are hoping to capitalise on today.

TPS 68: Dr Terry Wahls – Beating Progressive MS Using Paleo Principles and Functional Medicine
Like many doctors, this weeks guest focused on treating her patients’ conditions with drugs or surgical
procedures. However, this all changed after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2000 which
turned out to be the catalyst for a huge shake up.
We know that many of our listeners at home first discovered Paleo through experiencing a health crisis
and can personally relate to the need for urgency when it comes to examining and improving our health
practices.
Within three years of her diagnosis, Dr Wahls was in a bad way, her back and stomach muscles had
weakened to the point where she needed a wheelchair and conventional medical treatments were
failing her.
Rather than accept her rapidly deteriorating state of health Dr. Wahls began studying the latest research
on autoimmune disease and brain biology, and started to use food as medicine opting to get her
vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids from the food she ate rather than pills and
supplements. Dr. Wahls adopted the nutrient-rich paleo diet, and used this as the base to develop her
own approach to healing chronic auto-immune conditions. She has gone on to be an internet sensation
via her TED talk which went viral, and she is also a successful published author with the recent release

TPS 67: Pete Evans On Living Healthy Everyday
This week we finally get to interview one of the most highly anticipated guests we’ve ever had on the show.
Our amazing audience generated a huge buzz when we posted to social media asking what they wanted
to find out about when they heard who we were interviewing and I will admit that Brett, Steve and I
might have all been a little bit excited in the lead up to today’s episode as well!
Today’s guest is an inspiration, motivator and an agent for positive change in food education. He
has exploded onto the Paleo scene with a sincere passion and integrity for what he does. He has just
released his eighth cookbook “Healthy Every Day” and is one of Australia’s most loved and popular
chefs, he also boasts health coach, media personality and author in his list of credentials and we could
probably write a ninth publication for him based on his achievements alone.
We are so excited and proud that one of Australia’s own is helping us to reshape the way we think about
food and are thrilled about the great work and publicity he is generating for the Paleo way of living.
Welcome to the show Pete Evans!

TPS 66: The Domestic Man – Russ Crandall Chats With Us At His Ancestral Table
The weeks guest discovered and adopted a new dietary lifestyle modelled after the Paleo diet back in 2010.
His motivation for doing this stemmed from a number of factors but was largely due to his desire to get
back to his primal roots and become “less domestic”.
We know how easy it is to get overwhelmed in the kitchen- not all of us are natural Master Chefs able
to whip up a gourmet and paleo friendly feast in a jiffy. What’s really cool about Russ is that on his
new found path towards a better way of eating, he discovered a solid theme and that was the tons of
delicious, healthy dishes out there, nestled in the pages of history. He discovered that he didn’t need to
invent new meals to stay compliant with his diet, but instead could just look back into our past to find
dishes that are naturally tasty and nutritious, because they were developed in a time before processed
foods. The great news is if he can do it we can do it!

TPS 64: Dr Ronesh Sinha – The South Asian Health Solution, A Culturally Tailored Approach To Living Primal
This week we’re talking with Dr Ronesh Sinha who has worked out a way to bring the benefits of a primal lifestyle to South Asian people to tackle the alarming rates of heart disease, diabetes, obesity and related conditions that he sees, especially from those that emigrate away from their home country.
We know that a lot of our listeners work in office environments or encounter more stress than they would like on a daily basis and so there will be lots of crossover I’m sure in our conversation today that will be relevant to all people.
The South Asian Health Solution is the first book to provide an ancestral health-based wellness plan culturally tailored for those of South Asian ancestry living in India, the United States and across the world – a population identified as being at the highest risk for heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and related conditions. Dr. Ronesh Sinha, an internal medicine specialist in California’s Silicon Valley, sees high risk South Asian patients and runs education and wellness programs for corporate clients. He has taken many South Asians out of the high risk, high body mass category and helped them reverse disease risk factors without medications. His comprehensive lifestyle modification approach has been validated by cutting edge medical science and the real-life success stories he profiles throughout the book.

TPS 62: Sarah Ballantyne – All things autoimmune with The Paleo Mom
This weeks guest has so much awesome on offer that I don’t want to waste a second of our time with her. To all of our listeners, I know that sometimes getting your head around all of the ins and outs of autoimmune disease can be harder than trying to rummage your way through a Target clearance rack to find a bargain, but today we have got you covered.
Our guest is well and truly qualified to walk us through all of the nitty gritty we can throw at her. Sarah Ballantyne has so many tools in her kit but formally she is a Scientist turned stay-at-home mum, she writes the award winning blog “The Paleo Mom”, is a co-host on The Paleo View podcast and is author of some of the best Paleo Resources available including what we think is the Ulitmate Guide for anyone living with an autoimmune disease. Like many of our guests she is passionate about the impact of nutrition & lifestyle on health, cooking & raising her family. We think she is an all round superstar and we are not alone in this sentiment. Robb Wolf describes her latest book “The Paleo Approach” as a game-changer.
We love Sarah because she embodies our goal of making Paleo something that everyone can understand in a way that allows us to improve our own lives and the lives of our loved ones. As comprehensive and wonderfully detailed as her book is, Sarah ensures that we don’t suffer from information overload and in what I’m sure was actually a truck load of work she manages to explain complex scientific concepts in a way that seems effortless, she makes everything super easy to understand without watering it down. I promise you will actually feel like a bit of a smart cookie when you read her work because she just makes sure you get it! Get ready and get excited to be blasted with all the awesome you can handle as we welcome to the show The Paleo Mom- Sarah Ballantyne.

TPS 61: Liz Wolfe – Eat The Yolks
I love today’s guest because she is all about the food. I know that in my quest for health I have done just
about every ridiculous dietary fad out there- lemon detoxes, calorie restriction, shakes, slimming bars,
lotions, potions, pills, the works. The thing about Paleo for me, and I know I’m not alone in this, is that it
allowed me to give myself permission to break up with my disastrous relationship with food and to start
enjoying it- literally just eat real food and reap the benefits!
I know that stacks of our listeners out there can relate to what I went through. One minute we’re told
to eat foods low in fat, the next minute salt will kill us and then they make out butter to be the bad guy.
One of my true joys has always been eggs so much so that Steve and I joke about creating a cook book
dedicated solely to singing the praises of eggs. You can imagine my devastation when I’m told in order
to achieve the physique I was aiming for I had to cut out the egg yolks. I’m actually cringing in my chair
thinking about the cartons of egg whites I purchased and willingly consumed thinking that I was doing
the best thing for myself.
Thank God someone is doing something to stop the madness- today’s guest in her latest book “Eat the
Yolks” blows this myth out of the water! The amazing and funny Liz Wolfe is a writer and a Nutritional
Therapy Practitioner. Liz definitely walks the talk and is an avid hobby farmer with pasture-raised goats,
pigs and chickens and an organic garden. I had a bit of a giggle when I found out like me Liz has a bit of a
black thumb- there’s hope for me yet!
Her passion for real food stems from her very own powerful transformation and through her experience
in discovering the power of real food Liz got healthier, cleared acne, resolved skin issues, slept better,
and felt better than ever before. Through her books, website and Cave Girl Eats social media she
inspires millions of us daily and shows us that by ditching the diet dogma and filling our lives with real,
nourishing food we can achieve the same amazing benefits that she has.
In her quest to get to the bottom of modern food mythology Liz uncovered all kinds of crazy lies and
beliefs that we have been fed. Eat the Yolks is her story and how to guide for discovering Paleo, how to
fight these food lies and how to reclaim your health.

TPS 59: Tara Grant – The Hidden Plague
This week I have been doing some reflection and I have really been pondering what makes a successful
plan to achieve optimal health. A few points really jumped out at me. Firstly there is no singular one size
fits all solution. While there may be some basic principles that we can all draw from it’s becoming more
and more increasingly obvious that we need to take individual differences like genetics and lifestyle for
example into consideration. It gives us goose bumps here at That Paleo Show that it is finally becoming
acceptable to look at our uniqueness and through a process of trial and error, honest judgment free
discussion and common sense explore various approaches that might best suit us as an individual. So
while a less prescribed pathway to health is slowly but surely becoming more talked about and viable,
what about the people that don’t know what they are dealing with? Where do they start and what do
they do to overcome their feelings of hopelessness and frustration?
The great news is that today’s guest has experienced exactly this. She was someone who had always
been relatively healthy- maybe carried a few extra kilos but operated pretty well most of the time. It’s
amazing how quickly a health crisis can put things into perspective and that’s exactly what we are going
to talk about today.

Since Dr Brett has a campsite in his back yard, and Steph has done multiple hiking camping trips, they decided to school Dr Janah on how to be a true caveman. We hope this inspires you to get out and in touch with the world around you too!
