I get it — isolation and zero small talk have been a dream, but reduced face-to-face interactions that accompany remote work can also create negative side effects on your career. The physical separation from colleagues and the office environment can lead to a decline in spontaneous social exchanges, casual conversations, and collaborative interactions occurring naturally in a shared workspace. The isolation and reduced social exposure associated with working from home can contribute to a decline in social and people skills, potentially impacting professional relationships and collaborative efforts.  Free Guide: The Social Skills Playbook Free Guide: The Ultimate Way to Start Conversations and Leave Them Wanting More Get on the waitlist and be the first notified when we open The School of Social Mastery Schedule a FREE “Social Strategy Session”

152. Perfectionism Unveiled: The Anatomy of Social Anxiety

The need to be perfect in front of workplace peers can contribute to social anxiety. When someone strives for perfection in social situations, they often fear being judged or criticized by others. This fear of negative evaluation can lead to heightened anxiety, as they worry about making even minor mistakes or not meeting the unrealistic standards they've set for themselves. Perfectionism can also lead to a strong focus on performance. People may feel that they must excel in every aspect of social interaction, whether it's making a flawless presentation, having perfect conversations, or always appearing composed. This performance pressure can cause anxiety about measuring up to these self-imposed expectations. Episode 152 traces the correlation between the desire to be meticulous and the anxiety it can create. 150. Fearless Socializing: Your Path to Confidence

Social confidence plays a significant role in how you interact and navigate social situations. While it's important to feel secure and confident, it's equally important not to come across as overly insecure. That’s because confidence often attracts people, and if you appear overly insecure, it can be challenging to form and maintain meaningful relationships, whether they’re personal or professional. Social insecurity can hinder effective communication. If you doubt yourself too much, it can lead to hesitancy and difficulty expressing your thoughts and feelings clearly. Social confidence is not about pretending to be someone you're not but rather being the best version of yourself. Everyone has moments of insecurity, but the goal is to manage these moments so that they don't dominate your interactions and relationships.

149. Working Your Way to Mastery

The concept of mastery in interpersonal skills or in your field typically involves several stages of development and growth. While the specific stages may vary depending on the skill or domain, one generally begins the journey as a novice and climbs through the stages of mastery. The journey to mastery is not always linear, and you may move back and forth between these stages as you continue to learn and grow. Additionally, the time it takes to reach each stage can vary widely depending on the complexity of the skill or field, individual aptitude, and the amount of deliberate practice and effort put into the pursuit of mastery. Social reluctance can stem from a variety of sources, and it often varies from person to person. Social reluctance is complex, with numerous  underlying causes, and it can be experienced to varying degrees. 146. The Perfection - Procrastination Paradox (And What Really Prevents You from Making Progress)

The relationship between perfectionism and procrastination is complex.  One reason why people procrastinate is perfectionism. For example, socially reluctant perfectionists might be so critical of themselves for making perceived mistakes in the presence of others that they will decline to contribute to conversations to avoid dealing with the associated negative emotions. Similarly, procrastinating salespeople might be so worried about their offer being declined, that they will delay contacting potential customers. Episode 146 of the Social Skills Mastery podcast takes a look at the paradox and relationship between these seemingly dissimilar character traits and helps you identify how to break free from where you may find yourself on the continuum.   Free Course: The Assertiveness Accelerator Free Guide: The Ultimate Way to Start Conversations and Leave Them Wanting More Get on the waitlist and be the first notified when we open The School of Social Mastery Schedule  your: "Radiate Social Confidence Now" Chemistry Call   The Social Priming System: The #1 Way to create your desired social outcomes Social Confidence Pro  FREE Download: ---> Essential Business Etiquette Tips: The Definitive List of "Must-Know" social rules for success with co-workers, clients, and customers

145. How to Lay Down Your Armor and Positively Affect Someone's Day

Here’s a test for your self-confidence. When you enter a room, can you manage to entertain the thought " I know that everyone here can’t wait to meet me. I just don't expect them to realize it yet." You may not be at all certain that everyone in every room loves you, but you’ll find that pretending they do works nicely when you want to make someone's day. Rather than spending so much time wandering about armored against criticism and rejection, become aware that everyone around you may be wary of you. This emotional arms race drives people apart in every home, office, subway car, dentist's office, and corporate cafeteria on earth. But pretending other people need you flips the vicious cycle into a virtuous one. Imagine how you'd enter a conference room if you knew without a doubt that everyone in it adored you. How would you move? How would you look at people? What would you say?  When you practice these empowering thoughts daily you become socially intelligent and better able to handle everything that comes your way. 142. Mind Over Matter: Mastering Psychological Resistance

Resistance, in various contexts, can refer to different things, but generally speaking, it refers to the opposition that you encounter when trying to achieve a certain goal or make a change. In terms of personal growth, learning, or self-improvement, resistance can come from psychological factors such as fear, self-doubt, and overthinking. Pushing past psychological resistance means stepping out of your comfort zone and facing challenges that can lead to personal development and growth. Overcoming these mental barriers can lead to increased confidence, resilience, and new skills. Pushing past resistance challenges you to step outside your comfort zone and confront your limitations. This process fosters personal growth, helping you become more resilient, adaptable, and capable of handling a variety of situations.  Resistance is a natural part of personal and professional growth. Pushing past resistance can lead to enhanced skills, confidence, resilience, and a greater capacity to achieve your goals and contribute to personal innovation. 141. Self-Perception and How You Show Up for Yourself

Our actions and behaviors reflect the self-perception we hold of ourselves in our subconscious. Most of the time, self-confidence is increased by having a positive self-perception. You don’t need to wait to hear what other people think of you. It gives you a sense of satisfaction in life. But sadly, we are all so dependent on other people’s perceptions of us these days that our self-perception is distorted. We strive to live up to the expectations of others around us in order to have our own positive self-perception.   Free Course: The Assertiveness Accelerator Free Guide: The Ultimate Way to Start Conversations and Leave Them Wanting More Get on the waitlist and be the first notified when we open The School of Social Mastery Schedule  your: "Radiate Social Confidence Now" mini-coaching and consultation session   The Social Priming System: The #1 Way to create your desired social outcomes Social Confidence Pro  FREE Download: ---> Essential Business Etiquette Tips: The Definitive List of "Must-Know" social rules for success with co-workers, clients, and customers

140. The Perception That is Created When You Hesitate and Hold Back

Hesitating when communicating can crush your career and have a negative impact on how you’re perceived. Hesitating, overthinking, and perfectionistic tendencies can cause you to miss out on having your voice heard and on important opportunities. Whether it's, taking on a challenging project, or seeking a promotion, delaying your decision can result in someone else seizing the opportunity. And, if you doubt yourself and your skills, you may be less likely to take on new challenges or showcase your talents to others. Building professional relationships and networking is essential for business building and career advancement. Hesitating to engage with colleagues, attend events, or reach out to potential mentors can limit your networking opportunities. To avoid the negative effects of hesitating in your career, try to cultivate a proactive and confident mindset. 139. Critique Culture: The Impact "Being Real" Has on Your Social Success

Have you noticed that you may be criticizing people, either silently in your mind or aloud to whomever is around?  If you develop a reputation for being overly critical and negative, it can impact how you are perceived by others. That’s because we’re less inclined to trust or respect someone who consistently criticizes others, and this can have social and professional consequences. It's important to note that not all criticism is negative. Constructive criticism, when delivered with empathy and respect, can be beneficial for personal and professional growth. It focuses on identifying areas for improvement and providing suggestions or guidance to help someone succeed. 138. Lessons in Growth: Navigating the Journey and the Pain on the Path to Achieving Success

Whenever we set a big goal, like deciding to be more assertive or to be confident speaking from the stage, there are bound to be some uncomfortable and discouraging moments along the way. Along the way we have a choice to backtrack and stay where we are with no clear results, or keep going forward, trudging through the brush, swimming in shark-infested waters, or any analogy you can imagine that makes it difficult to get to where you want to be, But that journey is where the growth takes place. That’s the hard part, because where you are now is comfy and cozy. And where you want to be, well, you don’t yet actually know what it will feel like to reach that destination. In each of these instances, we decide we want to change our current behavior, but we must go through the growing pains of actually doing the work. 137. Avoiding Mix Messages and Misunderstandings on Teams by Creating Your Personal Manual

There are several reasons why introverted and socially reserved professionals prefer to avoid working in teams. Introverts often appreciate having control over their work environment and process. They may prefer making decisions independently and working at their own pace. In a team, decision-making is typically a collaborative process, requiring compromise and consensus. Introverts may feel more empowered and productive when they can work autonomously and follow their own internal processes.   Socially reserved professionals may experience social anxiety or discomfort in group settings. 133. Finding Confidence in Safe Spaces: The Link Between Psychological Safety and Your Hesitation to Speak Up

When people feel safe to share their thoughts and take risks, it allows for greater innovation, problem-solving, and collective intelligence within a group or organization. A lack of psychological safety can cause a smart person to hesitate and not speak up. Psychological safety refers to an environment where individuals feel safe to take interpersonal risks, express their ideas, and voice their concerns without fear of negative consequences such as ridicule, rejection, or punishment. Smart people often have a deep understanding of complex concepts and may possess valuable insights or innovative ideas. However, when they perceive that their contributions might be met with judgment, criticism, or a hostile response, they may hesitate to share their thoughts openly. This hesitancy can arise from a fear of being perceived as incompetent, foolish, or having their ideas dismissed, which can undermine their confidence and willingness to speak up. Furthermore, smart individuals may have a heightened sensitivity to the potential risks associated with expressing their opinions. They may anticipate potential conflicts, resistance from others, or negative repercussions in their social or professional relationships. These concerns can lead them to second-guess themselves and withhold their ideas or perspectives, even if they possess valuable insights. Creating an environment of psychological safety is crucial for fostering open communication, encouraging diverse viewpoints, and promoting collaboration.   Free Course: The Assertiveness Accelerator Free Guide: The Ultimate Way to Start Conversations and Leave Them Wanting More Get on the waitlist and be the first notified when we open The School of Social Mastery Schedule  your: "Radiate Social Confidence Now" mini-coaching and consultation session Feeling anxious in unfamiliar situations? Schedule your: "Social Anxiety Solution" mini-coaching and consultation session The Social Priming System: The #1 Way to create your desired social outcomes Social Confidence Pro  FREE Download: ---> Essential Business Etiquette Tips: The Definitive List of "Must-Know" social rules for success with co-workers, clients, and customers

127. Stop Overthinking and Show Up for Yourself

Overthinking is a common problem that can have a negative impact on our lives. It can lead to anxiety, stress, and depression. It can also make it difficult to make decisions, take risks, and live in the present moment. There are a number of things that you can do to stop overthinking and get out of your own way. Here are a few tips: Identify your triggers. What are the things that typically trigger your overthinking? Once you know what your triggers are, you can start to develop strategies for dealing with them. Challenge your thoughts. When you find yourself overthinking, take a step back and challenge your thoughts. Are they really true? Are you catastrophizing? Are you assuming the worst? Once you start to challenge your thoughts, you may find that they're not as scary or as overwhelming as you thought they were. Focus on the present moment. Overthinking is often about dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. When you find yourself overthinking, try to bring your attention back to the present moment.  Overthinking can be a difficult habit to break, but it's not impossible. With time and effort, you can learn to stop overthinking and get out of your own way.

Speaking up in the workplace can increase respect in a number of ways. First, it shows that you are confident and willing to share your ideas. This can make you seem more credible and trustworthy to your colleagues and supervisors. Second, speaking up can help to build relationships and create a more collaborative work environment. When you share your thoughts and opinions, you are showing that you are invested in the work and that you care about the success of the team. This can help to build trust and respect between you and your colleagues. Finally, speaking up can help to improve decision-making. When you share your ideas, you can help to ensure that all perspectives are considered and that the best possible decision is made. This can lead to improved results for the team and the organization as a whole. Here are some tips for speaking up in the workplace: Be prepared. 125. Creating a New Story and Personal Identity that Serves Who You Aspire To Be Now

How we construct our narrative, strongly affects our psyche, which is why making your story a positive one is so important. Your path and goal attainment depends on how you view your past, present, and future. For example, if you were teased, ridiculed, or even humiliated as a child, you may feel like it has broken you forever. Changing your story allows you to shift the focus from the suffering it has brought you to how it has made you a stronger person. What you repeat, you believe. If your story is one where you are a victim of your circumstances with no personal power, that is what you will believe. If you repeatedly tell yourself that you are the creator of your life and that you are capable to achieve the life you want to be living, you are indeed changing your life. 123. Reframing Difficult Conversations to Create Better Communication

From time to time we all will face conversations that we anticipate to be difficult and that we want to avoid. A “difficult” conversation is one whose primary subject matter is potentially contentious and may elicit strong emotions that can be hard to predict or control. Initiating a difficult conversation can feel daunting and there is a natural tendency to delay taking action in the hopes that the issue will be resolved without our intervention. But this is rarely the case. Procrastination won’t make problems disappear and in fact, if issues are ignored they are likely to escalate and become even more difficult to resolve, causing negative consequences both for all those involved and for the wider organization. It is far better to reframe the problem at an early stage as this can help to nip problems in the bud, prevent the situation from deteriorating and maintain good communication and working relationships with colleagues. Episode 123 helps you reframe the communication, removing the thought “difficult” so you can move forward with clean thinking.

No matter what level you’re at as a professional or an entrepreneur, a social coach can help you progress faster and farther than you would on your own. From providing a much-needed self-awareness check to helping erase blind spots and expand your network, a social coach can give you both the tools and perspective you need to go from where you are now to where you want to be. Especially for introverted, socially anxious, and overthinking types,  it's easy to assume that no one notices your hesitating and not fully showing up and contributing to your highest potential. A social coach can provide the push you need to step outside your comfort zone, meet new people and try new things. Nurture or nature — is confidence inborn or acquired?  Confidence is largely born from experience and training – trial and error and repeating patterns – this is how we gain confidence. Even when you’re skilled in a given area, it is only with years of experience that you become confident in yourself and your accomplishments. But even with experience and peer support, confidence remains somewhat of an elusive mystery. Many experienced people who have all the support in the world may still be insecure and lack self-confidence. Others have deep self-confidence despite their lack of experience and affirmation. Does it feel like getting over a fear of speaking up in meetings or enjoying small talk is just not going to happen in your lifetime? Limiting beliefs surrounding social confidence starts early in life and grows with time. Some common beliefs that may be limiting you, too include the thoughts: “I can’t think of anything to say.” “I don’t think well on my feet.” “I stumble over my words.” “I’m afraid of speaking up in meetings.” “I’m afraid they will realize that I don’t belong here.” All of these limiting beliefs are most commonly related to self-confidence. They are generally untrue and probably developed because of an influence you had as a young child or a message you received at some point in your life. Social confidence coaching can help you overcome these beliefs and start to enjoy yourself rather than engage in self-criticism. Conversations with Purpose: Making Communications Count

Every time you speak is an opportunity to make an impact. You get to decide what that impact is. The first words you speak always sets the tone for the conversation and how the other person views you. When you talk with people, you define your relationship with them.  Choose your words carefully and you will build trust and a positive reputation. Weigh your words before you speak. Don’t assume that you know everything about a situation before you respond.  Ask questions and listen. When you approach each conversation with the right attitude, it will be easier to choose the best words, convey the right tone, and communicate with social confidence. 109. Leaving Old Stories Behind to Create a New Social Image

Who you have been socially for the better part of your life doesn't have to be who you are forever. You are not an inanimate, digitized product, which once programmed, cannot change or grow. Your life is shaped significantly by the character you create and the story you tell yourself about the kind of person you are, what you're capable of achieving and how you should behave. But what happens when we desperately want to take on more of a leading role socially, but your presence and persona are not in sync with that character? And what happens when your view of who you are holds you back? Is there something that would propel your social life forward, but that you just can't bring yourself to do? If so, it's time for you to create a different social image, a new story and a character who embraces every trait you've been resisting. You know what it’s like to be nervous around new people and situations, whether you’re attending an event alone or speaking up and having everyone turn toward you. Fear is a normal reaction that warns our bodies to be careful. Social anxiety is a type of fear that stems from our thoughts, dealing more with worry about what might occur, rather than fearing something that is present. When fear and anxiety become a pattern in our lives, they become a problem. In today’s episode, we’ll discuss how fear and anxiety can come to the surface based purely on the words said to us by another person, and how to stop allowing others to hijack our emotional well-being and take back our personal control and self-management. 105. Mastering Professional Manners - The Essential Etiquette You Need to Succeed

There are rules of conduct for how you go about your workday, be it in-person or virtual, and that is business etiquette. These rules are the accepted or required norms in your specific profession and/or workplace, and they may be very different and not come into play in an alternate setting or social community. The penalty for violating business etiquette rules can range from facing the disapproval of others in the organization, to losing contacts, customers, and monetary rewards. Upholding the accepted standards of business etiquette creates a professional, mutually respectful atmosphere and improves communication and connections, which helps people feel better about their respective roles, and when they feel respected, that translates into better relationships all-around. 104. Credibility, Confidence, and Becoming Socially Secure

Society and our workplaces place a high premium on being confident and feeling good. We all recognize that our success accelerates when we are confident.  The reason is simple.  Without confidence we revert to fear, and when we are fearful we don’t take any action.  We hesitate, we delay and we procrastinate.  When you can let go of fear, you take action more quickly and easily. But the question remains – how do I become more confident?  The simplest answer is to become more competent.  As we become more skilled at a task, our fear shrinks and our confidence grows. So these are two critical factors for our social success at anything (including any skill at work), and they are forever linked. 94. Being Quiet Harms Your Credibility (and what to do about it)

It won’t matter if I don’t offer my ideas. They already have a lot to think about. My ideas are not important It pains me when I hear a super smart, creative, and gifted person express the opinion that it doesn’t matter when they don’t offer their thoughts in meetings and social situations, and that their contributions are not important, therefore there is no chance they’re missed. Many people have trouble properly valuing themselves, for a variety of reasons. Work environments that encourage you to feel valued are more likely to function well in a crisis, as well as work better in an everyday way. To those who have trouble valuing themselves - let me just say – “Been there — done that!”. If you are someone who thinks that your opinions are not important, you know you’re not truly engaged, and therefore you inadvertently harm the organization by withholding your ideas and visions. An individual’s social style is determined by behavioral patterns in the interactions with their peers. Knowing social styles can help strengthen relationships, improve communication, and predict behavior. As a businessperson and a professional, you can develop a customized approach to each one of your customers and team members based on their individual style. 88. Social Ease and Getting Comfortable in the Spotlight

One of our most basic human needs is to feel seen, heard, and understood. While the workdays of entrepreneurs and professionals are filled with appointments, they can still feel cut off, as time for connections, conferences, and networking increasingly disappears. My clients have told me that one of the most valuable things they get out of their coaching is finding their voice and speaking up with confidence. That can help them make decisions that use their strengths to make connections, to build relationships, to sell, and meet their goals. So what can you do about this situation? You can start by being present for yourself. When is the last time you looked yourself in the eye and saw a special, unique person in the mirror looking back at you? Make an effort to identify opportunities where you can step into the spotlight and speak live — freely, calmly, extemporaneously. Show them you are an expert. Show them you are on top of your game. 78. How Socially Reserved Businesspeople Can Become Highly Visible Without Attending Conferences and Networking

Why is it that we can feel confident about our work and contributions — that is until the red light goes on and we’re live. 77. How to Make Friends as a Professional

It was so much easier when you were a kid.  In college, you almost had to be trying not to make friends. And overnight you become an adult. You get busy with work. Your friends get busy with work. People get married. Have kids. And pretty soon being “close” means a text message twice a year. You’re not alone… Or, actually, the whole point of this is you really may be alone. But you’re not alone in being alone. These days we’re all alone together. In 1985 most people said they had 3 close friends. In 2014 the most common number was one. Episode 77 shares a few sound techniques for making friends as an adult and a professional.     Start 2022 with a brand new, highly visible, socially confident demeanor and presentation. 76. Removing the Sting of Social Rejection with Reframing and the Law of Polarity

Social rejection or the feelings that support it are an inevitable part of life. We are designed to be social beings with the intention to connect and link to and through one another continuously and through the varied paths of our lives. It is possible to be prepared for and comfortable with social rejection before it occurs, rather than feeling distraught. When you have your own back—meaning you have the ability to manage your thoughts, feelings, and actions, you can then be more effective than when you expect a particular response, feel rejected, and react in desperation. Episode 76 of Social Skills Mastery provides you with a method to remove the sting of perceived rejection by reframing it using the law of polarity, as everything is two things or has two opposing aspects. These tools are highly useful and provide the context to allow potential anger, anxiety, jealousy, or sadness to quickly become its polar opposite.     Start 2022 with Social Intelligence and a socially confident demeanor and presentation. 75. Creating a Magnetic Personality That Attracts, Effortlessly

Personal Magnetism is one trait that is a must-have to attract others towards you. If you’re self-assured and comfortable in your own skin, then you have the energy to draw people in, and nothing can dampen your enthusiasm to win people over. Many people have the mistaken belief that possessing magnetism comes from natural, unteachable traits that belong only to a lucky few—the good looking, the fiercely social, and the incredibly talented. It’s easy to fall prey to this misconception. In reality, being magnetic is under your control, and it’s a matter of connection. Start 2022 with social confidence coaching. 74. How to Stop Limiting Beliefs from Holding You Back from a Great Social Life

Are thoughts about what you can accomplish preventing you from being an interpersonal skills ninja? You are likely experiencing limiting beliefs, or pervasive thoughts about your capabilities that are a roadblock to social ease and success. Limiting beliefs, in most cases, are unconscious thoughts, which on the surface appear to be an aid in helping you avoid faux pas, frustrations, failure and disappointment. They are often tied to a time in the past where you may have suffered personally from an undesirable outcome,  and now when you come face-to-face with a similar situation, your subconscious finds a way to try to block it. A good starting exercise to counteract limiting beliefs is to look for the root of the problem by finding the agent causing such negativity. Society imposes standards that generate limiting beliefs, and we tend to base our performance on the norm. What is more important is creating a standard that pushes you to reach higher and achieve more, but completely on your own terms and in accordance with your own rules. 73. What They Think When Meeting You: Managing Impressions and Perceptions

Are you pitching potential investors, wooing a new client, or interviewing for a job? It is worth your time to first become self-aware and determine the impression you make and how you think others perceive you. This step must come first because you may miss out on a major opportunity simply by not modifying your demeanor to suit the situation. Modifying your demeanor does not mean being falsely genuine and sincere in who you are, but rather making sure to be situationally appropriate, dressing the part, and using the language and terms that best suit the setting. As much as we all wish that actual qualifications and the knowledge base we’ve amassed matters most, people are more likely to make quick decisions based on first impressions being an arbiter to our professional competence. And we can include ourselves as the makers of those same quick decisions when the tables are turned. Impression management is the practice of ensuring the message you wish to send is understood by the specific individuals or groups you want to reach. It also means influencing, through your dress, demeanor, and physiology how people interpret what you say, and what is said about you. Episode 73 of the Social Skills Mastery provides hearty food for thought that will help you become and remain highly aware of how critical managing your impression can be.   Did you get your free Social Priming Audio download? 71. Fearlessly Taking the Reins as the Face of Your Business

An attractive logo won’t help you establish a strong connection with a potential customer. That’s why it’s important, especially when you’re the face of your business to communicate fearlessly, frequently, and without worrying about criticism. People will say things you don’t like, and that feedback must be filtered. When effective, criticism should be positively intended, specific, objective, and constructive in order to achieve desired results. If it feels like the comments were intended to hurt rather than help, then discount and ignore that particular individual. 70. Go First! S/he Who Speaks First Holds the Power

Being the first to offer a greeting as basic as “Hi” followed by your name is a total power move. When you are the first to speak and extend your arm for a handshake, you are seen as friendly, confident, and in control. That's attractive and impressive, primarily because most people wait for people to approach them first, not from a position of superiority, but from reluctance and fear of rejection. More importantly, acknowledging people in business and socially is a kind gesture. We all want to be seen, and when someone takes the time to step out of their bubble to say hello it creates a moment of shared humanity.   The Social Priming System will help you practice ideal interactions and outcomes BEFORE they occur. 68. Creating Self-Awareness Through Body Language

Have you wondered why conversations end a little too quickly, and people seem to walk away before you're finished speaking? It’s estimated that up to 80% of our communications are non-verbal. So, understanding body language enables better self-awareness and self-control too, for you and your conversation partner(s). The better we understand non-verbals, the better able we are to refine and improve what our body says about us, which generates a positive improvement in the way we feel, the way we perform, and what we achieve. Body language allows us to understand more about our own and other people's feelings and meanings, and that can make all the difference in the world when we feel as though we’re not being heard, the feeling we’ve been overlooked, or that we’ve been slighted. Our reactions to other people's movements and expressions and their reactions to ours contributes greatly to our mutual understanding, both consciously and unconsciously.   The Social Priming System will help you practice ideal interactions and outcomes BEFORE they occur. 67. The Never-ending Quest for To Make Conversation Comfortable

The quest for better conversations is always a top topic request, and that makes sense because it is one of the best ways to connect with other people. Having a conversation requires some skill because they’re often spontaneous and informal – meaning you need to be able to think on your feet. Because being a good conversationalist can make such a huge impact on your life, this is definitely a skill you want to work on.   In your professional life, having good conversation skills can help you increase sales, your job performance, form positive working relationships, and gain new clients   In your social life, being a good conversationalist can help you attract a mate and build (and maintain) relationships. In short, there is no downside to being at ease while in conversation.   It is scientifically proven that rehearsing any upcoming scene in your mind will improve your performance when the time comes to step up and do that thing for real. 65. Creating Higher Level Thoughts to Alleviate Social Anxiety

Most of our thoughts are prompted by our current environment, and we can’t help but think about what’s right in front of us. What we see and experience becomes what we think.   The issue is our evolutionary training, or in other words, our brain’s propensity to keep us safe and out of harm’s way— and this can include showing up, speaking up, and doing things that our brain says may be scary. That is a big problem when you’re in business and you want to look good and be in the spotlight because every day your brain wants to keep you safe, but intellectually you want to excel, but you’re in a holding pattern. 55. Why Perfection Loses in the Social Skills Game

To be a productive and successful person, you have to learn from your mistakes; and to be able to learn from your mistakes, you have to be comfortable with making them. But in general, perfectionists are not. They tend to avoid making mistakes in every aspect of life, including in how they show up socially and feeling more guilt and shame than the average person when they do make a mistake. Perfectionism has been linked to a whole host of problems including depression and anxiety. Today's episode makes a case for why perfection is not necessarily worth pursuing, but showing up as the person you already are wins big. (Free) Social Priming Audio - Download to your smartphone

47. A Case for Keeping Conversations Brief (aka How to not be a long-talker)

A common misconception is that talking ad nauseam and being long-winded makes a person appear knowledgeable, and nothing could be farther from the truth. In fact, it’s often a telltale sign of nervousness and a lack of self-awareness. What happens is a thought enters your mind and before you’ve had a chance to fully process it or determine what, if anything should be said, you set off on a diatribe that includes every detail you know — and that’s overkill. And everyone recognizes it, except unfortunately the person committing the transgression.
