How a Traumatic Experience Led to Record Breaking Sales - Brian Hicks

Today on the Sales Success Stories Podcast I’ve got a real treat for you before our next new interview episode next week. I’ve got the audio for you from the third best-rated presentation from last year’s Sales Success Summit and having just listened back to this myself, I can’t believe that there were two presentations that we thought were even better than this. Let me just say before we get into this that Brian gets really raw here, there are some situations and language that are probably not appropriate if you’ve got some young ears around, so with that little disclaimer, here’s Brian Hicks:

Getting Defunkified

In today’s bonus episode of the Sales Success Stories podcast, I’ve got the first audio of one of the sessions from this year’s Sales Success Summit last month in October, and it’s actually my own. I wanted to share this sooner rather than later because I sincerely hope it helps someone with the holidays on the horizon and the recent daylight savings change in the US which for many compounds the depressive effect of shorter days and more darkness, this can be a tough time of year. I thought it would be good to get this out there right away. Maybe it’s for you, maybe it’s something you want to share with another friend in sales. Fair warning, this is pretty raw and the language is perhaps a bit spicier than what you’ve perhaps gotten used to on this show, so if you’ve got young ears around, please be aware of that and also know that you can get your hands on this and the other presentations from this year’s Summit for free thanks to our sponsors. Just click over to top1.fm/defunkify where I’m going to include this audio, links to the full video clips that you’ll hear in this presentation and the link to the form where you can request your code to get access to ALL of the videos, plus a couple of other goodies if you’re interested. With that, let’s get into this:

The Future of Sales Success

In today's bonus episode, I wanted to spend a little bit of time talking about my thoughts on the future of Sales Success, and in this case that has a bit of a dual meaning. As we release this episode we'll be about halfway through this year's Sales Success Summit and part of what I'll be talking to them about is a pretty significant pivot from the more ad-hoc Sales Success Community offering we've had in the past to a higher value, invitation-only offering exclusively for top performers and top strivers called the Sales Success Society.

Summit Hallway Conversations: Ian Koniak

Today on the Sales Success Stories podcast I’ve got one final Summit Hallway Series conversation for you, between Jeff Bajorek and Ian Koniak. I also have some news. Since we released the last episode, this year’s Sales Success Summit has sold out, so unless a spot or two opens up, it’s highly unlikely that you’ll be able to join us this year if you don’t already have a ticket, but there’s a lot of stuff going on and we’ve tried to put everything together in a single place, so if you’ll go to top1.fm/stuff you’ll find a super simple form where you can let us know what you might be interested in whether that’s joining the waitlist, purchasing a ticket for next year’s Summit at the best possible price, getting your hands on the second volume of the Sales Success Stories book that we’ll be releasing at this year’s event, the videos and recordings, or maybe you’re interested in getting involved in the evolved version of the Sales Success Community that we’ll be rolling out in just a couple of weeks. We’ve tried to make it as easy as possible, so just click over to top1.fm/stuff for all of that, and now over to Ian and Jeff and their conversation following last year’s event, just ignore the fact that I’m sharing the first one last and know that Ian has been the top-rated Summit speaker the last 2 years running. He’ll be opening this year’s event once again and trying for the threepeat. Here they are:

Summit Hallway Conversations: Sarah Brazier & Luke Floyd

Today’s bonus episode is brought to you thanks to the generous support of The Sales Collective. To learn more about them, just click over to top1.fm/tsc for The Sales Collective. In today’s bonus episode of the Sales Success Stories podcast, I’ve got the first in a series of hallway conversations from last year’s Sales Success Summit. Truth be told, I totally forgot I had these. Jeff Bajorek has been kind enough to host this series of interviews during every Summit and until last year we released them in near real-time. With this set, I had a different plan and apparently completely forgot about said plan. The result is maybe even better because this year’s Summit is just 2 months away on October 16th and 17th and these conversations are such a great reminder of just how powerful and impactful the Summit really is. Yes, the content and presentations are amazing because they exclusively feature the top performers that you’ve heard here on this podcast, but it’s more about the experience and the opportunity to build real relationships and have real conversations with some of the best in the business. So, for the next couple of months leading up to this year’s Summit, I’ll be sharing some of these conversations. This one features Jeff talking with Sarah Brazier and Luke Floyd, and for added context, you can scroll back in your feed to March 21, 2023, to hear the audio from Luke’s presentation. Here they are with a pretty cool little intro of their own:

A Personal Update from Scott

Hey there, thank you for listening to and subscribing to this podcast. I really appreciate it. I just have two quick updates for you in this off-schedule episode. The first one is personal, and what I’m actually going to do is include my Daily Sales Tip from May 31st here in a couple of minutes so you don’t have to go hunt that down if you haven’t yet heard it. It’s a little bit of an uncomfortable share for me, but explains the inconsistency with new interviews here on Sales Success. A situation I’m working on rectifying over the next few weeks. So I guess stay tuned for that update. In the meantime, I want you to get yourself registered for the webinar series that we’re presenting with the support of Vidyard, The Sales Collective, Sales Hacker, Outreach, and the Sales Feed. It’s happening on Friday, June 9th. Hopefully, you’re able to join us live, but if you register we’ll be sure to get you the recordings afterwards. Do us both a favor and hit pause, click over to Top1.fm/WS for Webinar Series, and register. You can see the full lineup there as well, but being that you’re listening to a podcast, you might be a bit more audio inclined, so let me share with you what’s in store:

No Presentations… All Conversations

Today I’ve got a quick update on our upcoming Basecamp event. This was originally scheduled for May 9th and was meant to be kind of a Sales Success Summit light. A single-day event with a whole series of really actionable, shorter presentations from the top sellers that you’ve heard here on this show. I won’t go into the gory details, but some things happened that caused me to rethink that approach and I’m super excited about how we’ve pivoted. We’ll be taking that originally planned content and will be doing a day-long webinar series in collaboration with Sales Hacker on June 9th. We don’t quite have the landing page up for that, but if you go to top1.fm and join the listener list you’ll be one of the first to have the opportunity to sign-up.

Defunkification

In today's bonus episode of the Sales Success Stories Podcast, I'm going to do something I've never done before. It's super personal and super uncomfortable, but given how much it resonated with others on our last Sales Success Community call, it feels like a really important thing to share. I'm trying to Defunkify myself! I have been off my game for almost an entire year, and I'm sure experiencing some mild depression. I won't get into all of the causes, because it's really not that important, and many of us get into this place for a whole variety of reasons. What I want to focus on is getting out of it!

I've got one more short update episode for you as we wrap up the year. We should be back with a new interview episode the first week of January, so make sure you're subscribed to the podcast. The first update is that the videos from the 2022 Sales Success Summit should be available just in time for Christmas. If you've already signed up and are waiting for those to be delivered. Keep an eye on your inbox. If you didn't fill out the form at Top1Summit.com to get access to all of those videos for free, this is your last chance. You'll need to do that before December 31st. After that, they'll be going up behind a paywall. That said if you're listening to this in 2023 and beyond. You can get a couple of access codes to individual videos by joining our mailing list at top1.fm. That's T-O-P the number 1 dot FM, and the link to the summit page is available there as well. Hit pause and do that now if you haven't already! Now, if you're looking to set yourself up for a super solid 2023 I've got an incredible offer for you in our All Access Pass and as I talk through this you can find the details at top1.fm/2023. You may have heard me say before that I'm really leaning into the community this year. In addition to our two-day Sales Success Summit next October, we're adding another single-day event in May called Basecamp. Both events will feature presentations from the top performing sales professionals that you've heard here on this podcast and as excited as I am about both of those events, the thing I think is really going to make the biggest difference is the way we're working to engage and connect the community in a more meaningful and impactful way. We just kicked off a gamified experience just for All Access Pass Holders that's as much about bringing the community together as it is about public personal accountability and working together to execute at the highest levels.

Not everyone knows that all of this Sales Success stuff, this podcast, the Daily Sales Tips podcast, the Sales Success Summit, the books, and everything else is actually one big side hustle. Like many of you, I'm a quota-carrying sales professional, and while I'm well ahead of plan for the year I've still got quite a bit of pipeline to work through in these next 4 weeks before Christmas, as well as a lot of planning and prep to do to make sure that I'm all set for a successful 2023 as well. If I'm really honest I'm also working through a bit of burnout having essentially worked 2 full-time jobs for the last 6 years! So I'm going to intentionally take my foot off of the gas with this podcast for the next few weeks, at least on the public side. I will be leaning into the paid Sales Success Community offering a bit more and you can learn more about that opportunity at top1.fm/2023 I'm also going to keep things going on the Daily Sales Tips Podcast side of things as well, though I'm sure we'll do a big top tips countdown over there in a few weeks, as I'm going to try to completely take off the week between Christmas and New Years. That's it. I just wanted you to know that we'll probably release just one last interview this year, and I'll be resetting and gearing up to make 2023 our best year yet for you and for me. Again, be sure to check out what's going on over at top1.fm/2023 as the best way you can support this effort and yourself is to get involved there. Oh, and I'm also working on booking more interviews, so if you or someone you know is going to finish as the outright #1 top performer for the year. Reach out and make an intro. To qualify, they must be in an individual quota-carrying role and have been a consistent top performer on a team of at least 5 sellers. Thanks again for listening and I'll talk to you soon!

Sales Tip Pizza Party with Jacquelyn Nicholson and Mike Simmons

In today’s bonus episode of the Sales Success Stories podcast I’ve got maybe the most unique share yet. Right after the Sales Success Summit in October my pipeline of tips for the Daily Sales Tips podcast was running quite low, so I asked some core members of the Sales Success Community to contribute some tips. Now if you’re a regular listener to that show, you may have heard a couple of these ideas from Jacquelyn Nicholson and Mike Simmons but the raw unedited version was so much fun I thought I’d just share the whole thing here. I’m going to have my audio editor make a few minor tweaks based on his judgement to clean up a couple of transitions, but other than that we’re going to keep it pretty raw and if you click over to top1.fm/JM for Jacquelyn/Mike, we’re going to include the full unedited video. Here they are, Enjoy!

PEEs are Legal in Sales!

I don’t know about you, but I’m constantly on the lookout for every possible competitive advantage I can find to try to improve myself and my results. It’s a huge reason why I started this show. Selfishly it allows me to build relationships with and learn from the best of the best in sales today. Unselfishly I record those conversations so you can listen in and learn alongside me. In addition to listening to these stories and gleaning the insights from top performers, one of the most powerful performance enhancers I’ve found isn’t illegal or even unethical. I think of them as Performance Enhancing Events Of course, I’m talking about the Sales Success Summit where I’m able to bring many of these top performers who you’ve heard on this show together so that you too can meet them, talk with them and learn from them. The most fun part is that they’re just engaged as you are, because they’re taking advantage of the opportunity to learn and network to further improve their own results.

And Now For Something Completely Different

And now for something completely different. I sent a newsletter out a couple of weeks ago that wasn’t really directly related to sales at all. Instead, I was talking about a couple of books that I was reading on macro economics and what the future of the world might look like. It prompted some really interesting conversations and feedback. And one of those bits of feedback was that it was nice to get away from the pure sales content sometimes. I thought I’d lean into that a bit as we start to wrap up the summer and wanted to share my favorite recent non-fiction read, and by “read” I actually mean listen on Audible. This was “Project Hail Mary” by Andy Weir. You may recognize the author as the author of “The Martian” which was another book I absolutely loved. Now, he did a book in between called “Artemis” not my favorite, but “Project Hail Mary” is amazing. I highly highly recommend it. And I’d also love to hear what you’re reading, or your favorite recent reads. I might even include some of those in a future newsletter. You can email me at scott@top1.fm or feel free to send me a note on LinkedIn, and if you’re not already on the listener list and receiving these newsletters. Click over to top1.fm and drop your name and email address into one of the forms. Thanks for listening, enjoy the rest of your Summer and make sure you’re subscribed to the podcast so you don’t miss my next interview with a top-performing sales professional.

Taking Time Off

I'm kind of cheating with this episode. Its purpose is to let you know that I'm taking a week off and that there won't be a bonus episode this week, but in a roundabout way, it helps me keep my streaks alive as I haven't missed a week on this show since we started consistently releasing bonus episodes between the interview episodes years ago. If you haven't already figured it out, I'm a HUGE believer in consistency as today we'll also be releasing episode 1242 on the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I've never missed a day on that show. Now, I'm cheating a little bit over there too with a bit of a best-of series, but it's important to take breaks. I've been in need of a massive refresh with tons going on professionally as always, but that's been compounded by a lot going on on the personal side with a new home purchase and renovation and prepping for the sale of my previous home which is currently under contract. For me, it's about getting my head right and getting ready for a full out 4 month sprint that will culminate in the Sales Success Summit and SalesTechEX the second week of October. I also need to get super aggressive about refreshing my productivity process when I get back to pull all of this off. So that's where we're at. No real episode today, and I appreciate your understanding and continuing to come back week after week to this show. I'll talk to you next week!

In this final episode of the year, my team and I have selected 2 clips from each of the top 5 episodes of 2021. I recognize that these episodes are often quite lengthy, and we’ve started pulling out some shorter clips from each episode that we’ll be releasing on our YouTube channel. You can get there real easily by going to top1.fm/youtube, and be sure to subscribe when you get there. Our goal is to have clips available from every episode over the course of the next 6 months. I should also mention that every single on of the interviews we do on this show are with #1 and top 1% level performers who are active, quota-carrying, individual contributors. With that, let’s get into this. What I’m going to do is play the 2 clips from each episode and then I’ll let you know who it was and what episode it was from. So these 29 women are some of the best of the best. And I hope you'll help me find more like them. If you know a female seller who holds that spot at the very top of the leaderboard, I would love an introduction.  Send me a note to Scott@top1.fm or connect us on LinkedIn either way works. And I appreciate you for helping me find more of the best of the best. So that's it for today. Just go check out that list at Top1.fm/Women. And then tomorrow I've got a brand new interview episode for you that I think you're really going to like. Thanks for listening and for sharing this resource with your friends and other women in sales or women who would need to be in sales. I appreciate it.

It’s probably also worth nothing that Leila is no longer with ZipWhip as she just recently made the transition to Sprout Social where she’s working as a mid-marketing Account Executive. The 4P Productivity Process for Producing Profit - Scott Ingram

Today on the Sales Success Stories podcast. I wanted to share my own presentation from last year's Sales Success Summit. This talk is titled the 4P Productivity Process for Producing Profit because the most common question I'm probably asked is simply how do you do all of this? How are you managing to work a full-time sales job, host multiple podcasts, publish books, host a summit, manage a family, and perform pretty well at all of those things and still find time to sleep. In this 45 minute presentation, I'm going to explain it all and there are quite a few visual elements to this, so if you'd like to see the video recording, just subscribed to the listener list at Top1.fm. When you do that, the first email you'll receive will offer you the video of your choice from the last Sales Success Summit. Just reply to that and ask for my own productivity video. Here it is:

Moving Your Margins: The Impact of Minimum Viable Habit - Jack Wilson

One of those presentations that I’m going to share with you today comes from Jack Wilson and is called Moving Your Margins - The Impact of Minimum Viable Habits. This was the most highly rated presentation by those in attendance at last year’s Summit. To get the full effect you’re going to need to watch the actual video. Again, to get access just join the listener list at top1.fm and reply to the welcome email and I’ll set you up. Just be patient with me though, because it’s a manual process for me to create and send the access codes to you.
