Why has “toxic masculinity” been allowed to trickle down through the generations? What are the new lessons of healthy masculinity being taught today? How might we influence complex system work conditions so that an organization is ready and willing to change its cultural perceptions of mental health?Resource: https://allankehler.com/the-men-speak/View book: https://lnkd.in/gV-f_JYsAllan Kehler, TEDX Talk Speaker, Mental Heath Advocate and owner of Out From the Shadows Consulting Inc.Allan knows first-hand what it feels like to have lost his voice, and I also know what it feels like to have found it. He believes that the only reason why he is still here today is to carry a message. He knows that there are a lot of people who are suffering from the same or similar challenges that he faced. It has become his life’s mission to share his story in the hope that it will shed a positive light on the journey of others. One, it’s impossible; two, it’s expensive; and three, it distracts from your focus on what’s important: high-risk activities. In this session we look at:What are the practices of managing CRITICAL STEPS? How does it change the emphasis from simple error avoidance to ensuring success proactively and systemically? How might asking "What must go right?" identify the CRITICAL STEPS as well as the low-risk work activities where the loss of control has little or no impact? Once mapped, can line managers then give greater control of low-risk operations to the expert judgment of the workforce?View book: https://amzn.to/30hA3oBView website: https://www.criticalstep.com/

That’s not the intention nor the case.It could be perceived that this guide isn’t really about safety but business, operations, production, work, learning, relationships, successes, and more.Free guide download: https://www.vectorsolutions.com/resources/whitepapers-guides/applying-new-safety-guide/

Safety View: Psychological Safety

Join us on the Safety View as Laurin Mooney, Rosa Antonia Carrillo and Tamara Parris host a special session on psychological safety. In the session we (our community) will be addressing several questions about psychological safety (PS). Is it an important aspect of workplace safety? What are the potential benefits of learning how to engender PS? What do we mean by PS? Have we addressed the downsides and limitations of PS so that we don't get blindsided by unintended consequences?Rosa and Tamara are both early adopters, (See Rosa’s 2016 article) but recently it seems to be everywhere and we fear it might be getting watered down and misinterpreted. We don't want it to become another "safety culture", where people use it to explain things that are not otherwise making sense to them. It seems that once we find a label we can check it off our list of worries. Is it just us, or are others sensing the same thing? This is a call for community members who have knowledge and strong opinions about the direction that the topic of psychological safety is taking.

Safety View: What is the Role of Mental Health in Organizational Performance?

What is the role of mental health in organizational performance? Join as we discuss if this is the province of human resources, safety, or leadership lead by Rosa Carrillo. Come share your thoughts and learn from others. We will look at the latest findings on the state of well-being at work and recommendations. The International Labor Organization defines workplace wellbeing as it: “relates to all aspects of working life, from the quality and safety of the physical environment, to how workers feel about their work, their working environment, the climate at work and work organization. The aim of measures for workplace wellbeing are to complement OSH measures to make sure workers are safe, healthy, satisfied and engaged at work.”Mental health affects how we perceive, think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. It is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mental health is “a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.”More About “The Safety View”Each one-hour session is hosted by an expert or stakeholder in safety performance. That’s how you develop the skill to apply them when stress kicks in.We live in an increasingly hyper-connected, dynamic, rapidly changing world that has resulted in massive complexity. Per the Global Wellness Institute, most of the world’s 3.4 billion workers are unwell. They ranked the issues that employers across various sectors believed would have the most negative impact on productivity. Stress led the list of issues, reported by 72% of organizations.Let’s explore the way forward through relationship centered leadership and mindfulness. Let’s answer:What is the reality of our situation, and what needs to change? What outcome do we want - what would that look/feel like? What options do we have to start to make progress, and what can we commit to? How did it go? What should we try next? Each one-hour session is hosted by an expert or stakeholder in safety performance. Welcome to Safety With Purpose. Thank you very much for joining you. Safety Sherpas out there. You are doing the heavy lifting. You are living that noble cause you’re guiding us up from Kern, his backpack full of knowledge, helping us keep us safe as we climbed this mountain. Thank you very much. Thank you very much again, always nice to have you guys here and, and be a part of safety with purpose because this platform is about you guys. I’m gonna keeping you safe and having the knowledge that you need to be safe and get your home at a, at night family, friends, all of that fun stuff. And thank you very much. So before we get going, I’ll want to just sort of start it off with the tailgate, tailgate talk number one.[00:54] All right, now this is Safeopedia This particular one I actually went through as a owner of a business and an industrial maintenance business. And, uh, so I was, uh, driving to a client, received a call and one of my employees actually, uh, passed away, died. Uh, and, and there is a topic specific to that while out on Safety With Purpose.com and it’s under guides and then sudden cardiac arrest. Do you know the facts? And here is a document that, you know, it’s, it’s, it’s a pretty challenging, uh, event for any companies and, and anybody around it. And here is a document that pretty much addresses it. This is a stat that I did not know and it’s, uh, uh, according to the United States, an estimated 326,000 deaths each year from sudden cardiac arrest and, and, and like this, this young man just boom, that was it. And, um, it was sad.[02:00] There’s nothing that can be done, but here’s a document that is specific to sudden cardiac arrest and it’s out on Safeopedia under guides. So, uh, you know, download it, make it happen, find out more, be prepared. Number two. Now this is near and dear to my heart too, as well as I transitioned from that first topic. Here it is, uh, it is out on free webinars. Once again, it’s brought to you by a gentleman by the name of Andrew Barrett, right? And it’s a learned to super high leverage skills in EHS and a that is coaching and selling environmental health and safety, right? Coaching and selling and the topics that he includes in this particular free Webinar, three Webinar on demand. So you don’t even have, I mean, you could do it now, do it. You could do it. You’ve could have done it yesterday is a why somebody mean of us are barking up the wrong tree.[02:56] That’s one topic. Those, uh, the objection to what is going on, uh, to talk about and, and so on. And uh, I think it’s fantastic. It’s a fantastic, I haven’t had a chance yet, but I’m going to listen to it and it’s on demand. It’s free. It’s all ready to go. So, uh, that is

Another quickie here. It’s a fast one. And uh, I’m always fascinated by, um, the culture and this particular, uh, compass is more compass because it gets down to, um, especially with safety. It’s, it’s in the mind and it’s, it’s education. But how do you, how do you infuse that culture into your organization to keep them safe? That’s what this is all about. So anyway, let’s get going with a tailgate. Tailgate talk number one. Okay. What is shifted up a little bit? And once again, I’m going to go to, um, safety, Safeopedia, right? And instead of just going into, I’m just going to go into guides and I thought this was a pretty interesting guidance. I’m big into checklists. I mean, I don’t know about you, but I’m big into checklists and uh, this one caught my fancy and it was the construction fall safety checklist.[01:27] We’re going to be doing a podcast with a gentleman, uh, with a fall protection company. And, uh, I’m always fascinated by the fact that a, there they’re still, there are, uh, deaths at that take place with that are fall related because when I was at alignment, I’d be climbing towers and poles and all that good stuff. And uh, you just didn’t hear about deaths. You didn’t, you hear about people falling in, in our fall. Protection of course was just a belt. And, uh, I, I’m, I’m always fascinated by this, but so if you go out to a Safeopedia once again, and you look at guides and you just sort of scroll down a little bit, construction falls, safety checklist, cool stuff. Get it. It’s a checklist. It’s already there. You...

Welcome to Safety With Purpose. Stop climbing this mountain of success so that we could come home to our family, friends in what, what we want to do, because you safety sherpas are carried at the heavy load of safety. Stop. Okay. We’re going to be talking a little bit about hazards and dangers in this particular episode of safety with purpose podcast and of course it’s going to be with the Bryan McWhorter. He is our resident’s safety expert here at a safe, a pedia and safety with purpose and joy. Here we go. We have no time.[00:51] Things are moving. Things need to be done. We need to be safe. You’re always at the cutting edge of keeping people safe and as such, we know we got to start out with our tailgate. Talk, tailgate, talk number one. Okay. I’m out here. I’d say for PD. Once again, I go to the Q and a section and I’m going to pull up what is hazardous atmosphere, which is just an interesting topic from my perspective. When I was alignment, we would go do some underground stuff. And then of course, the bottom line is we would always, always test for gases within, let’s say, underground faults. So this one is as specifically interesting to me. Now you got to go out there. There’s, there’s a lot of data associated with it, but, uh, nonetheless, it’s important. At worst, worst case, if you go down into a hole, if you go into an enclosed area, if you’re doing something that is, uh, has an a potential of being able and don’t take chances once again, right?[01:43] Don’t take chances, you can always test. There’s always tests. And if somebody says, Hey, get in there and it’s not tested, you do not get in there. You stand your ground and we’ll hear to back you up. So here, here’s just sort of in a, in accordance with OSHA, OSHA, hazardous atmosphere. Atmosphere is an atmosphere that may expose employees, you and us to the risk of death. Incapacitation, impairment of ability to self rescue injury or acute illness from one or more of the following causes of course, flammable gas, vapors, mis, you know, that exceeds 10% but once again, that is what this is out on Q and a right Q and a, what is the hazardous atmosphere need to go out to? Safeopedia it’s out there. Let’s get the details. Of course they’ve got the links that uh, will continue to be out there and make you a better knowledge about that.[02:38] Number two. Tailgate, talk number one.[00:55] All right. I go out to Safeopedia once again, you’ve heard me talk about that. Uh, well, uh, a number of times and I go to the Q and a section because I always enjoy some of the questions out there. And once again, there’s no stupid question out there in the world of safety. There is no stupid question. Even if your kid comes to you and say, hey, blah, blah, blah, blah, even your child, no stupid questions, keep them safe and make sure that you answer them. And, and I always go to the Q and a section and, and uh, this is what a, I popped up because once again, keeping in the theme of heat and hot and all that fun stuff, what is some of the good ways to replenish electrolytes at work? I gotta tell you, man, I’ve been in some locations where it is just blistering hot.[01:36] And if you’re not drinking, and if you’re not thinking about it, you’re always just sort of focused on the work and you’re gonna find yourself in a really nasty safety pickle. And, um, so anyway, I was, I was fascinated by this. And then of course there are three components associated with, uh, properly replenishing your electrolytes. And the number one of course is nutrition. Make sure that you’re eating, uh, the, the foods that’s rich and of course sodium, calcium, magnesium, all of the potassium, fruits and vegetables. It’s a, it’s a common sense. You gotta eat right? You’re gonna have to eat and eat, eat stuff. That’s a good, right. That makes sense. It’s, it’s common sense in that. Then of course, there are plenty of companies who provide, uh, electrolyte benefit, uh, beverages. I like Squincher and a, they’re out there and they provide a great product out there to drink and continue to...
