Episode 141: How to Set up Outsourcing Before You Need it With Nathan Holritz - Photo Field Notes Podcast: Career Advice for Photographers
Today on the podcast, I’m talking with Nathan Holritz, founder of Photographer’s Edit and the Bokeh Photography Podcast. We’re covering work life balance and how to set up a successful outsourcing relationship before you need it.
Listen to my episode on the Bokeh Podcast.
About Nathan Holrtiz
Nathan Holritz is an entrepreneur based in Chattanooga, TN. Starting in professional photography 17 years ago, Nathan helped bring a modern style of premium wedding photography to the Chattanooga market via Holritz Photography. While helping run Holritz Photography, Nathan saw both a personal and industry need for a company that could handle the post-processing of the thousands of images photographed at weddings.
He created Photographer’s Edit, a company geared toward providing a solution for professional photographers to outsource this post-processing following weddings and large events. The company was launched in 2008, and has continued to grow since, processing millions of images for professional photographers. Nathan also hosts the Bokeh Photography Podcast, which focuses on the topics of photography technique, running a photography business, and creating more freedom and flexibility in your life as a photography business owner.

Episode 133: Photographers Share Their Most Cringeworthy Moments Behind the Lens (Part 2) - Photo Field Notes Podcast: Career Advice for Photographers
I shared my first episode of cringeworthy stories that fellow photographers shared back on Halloween, and it was so much fun that I knew I wanted to put together another episode of cringeworthy photographer stories.
Today I’m sharing part 2 with even more (and even more horrifying) real life photographer stories. And a quick disclaimer this time around – these stories are not all appropriate for children, so if you’re listening with children around, you may want to hit pause and wait until later to listen (but I promise that it’s worth the wait for some of these hilariously entertaining stories).
One more quick note – I’m delaying the Mini Portfolio Critique while I’m in New York City this week to see “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.” You now have until March 26, 2019 to enter.

Episode 103: Your Photography Business Marketing Plan
On last week's podcast episode, I talked about why you should consider paid advertising to market your photography business. This week, I'm talking you through a marketing plan for using "free" tactics to grow your photo business. The main key is focus—no matter which marketing tactic you choose, make sure that you're dedicating enough time to that tactic to really master it. If you dabble in everything, you're less likely to do any of it well, so pick your focus, and really go for it.
Listen to the full episode for more details on which photography marketing tactics I recommend in which order, and be sure to download my free guide that includes an outline with tips and resources for marketing your photography business (search episode 103 on photofieldnotes.com).

Episode 50: Thriving as a Shy or Quiet Business Owner (And Understanding Shyness)
This episode is equal parts exciting and terrifying for me to share with you today. I'm getting really personal about my own journey building multiple thriving businesses as a shy, quiet creative business owner.
Maybe you don't identify as shy, quiet or introverted, but here's the thing—this episode is still for you. Almost half of adults (in the U.S., anyway) identify as shy, and I think it's important for everyone to have a better understanding around what it really means to be shy, and where we might be misguided on our perceptions around shyness.
In fact, if you're working with clients (and as a photographer, there's a good chance that you are), there's a good chance that almost half of your clients identify as shy.

Episode 25: How Michael Courier Broke into Performance + Event Photography
Notable quotes:“Even in the moments where I wake up and I’m still kind of struggling to either find the client or feel happy with some of my work that I’m doing, I would not trade it in for anything…I get to do what I love, so I know that the moments of struggle are still better than any other job I’ve ever had.”“You will get it as long as you stick with it. It’s so easy for people to look at their work and look at other people’s work and be like, 'I’m never going to get there. I’m just going to quit.' I never really took that approach. I see other people’s work and I’m like, 'I can be that one day if I keep with it.'"“Don’t get frustrated with what other people are doing. Just keep doing it because you love it, and eventually you’ll get there.”Check out some of Michael's work below, and be sure to check out his website to see more.See more on Photo Field Notes.
