Did you know that a lot of people who have periods—up to 7 in 10—might have something called Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)? But most don't even know it! It's not just about irregular periods; it can also lead to infertility and cause other health issues, making life a bit tough.

PCOS isn't just about numbers. It's a complex web of experiences, emotions, and challenges that extend far beyond irregular periods. It stands as the commonest cause of anovulation and a significant factor in infertility. This Rishi Panchami, how about redefining traditions and empowering ourselves by embracing the strength of our menstruation rather than washing away 'sins''?
Rishi Panchami is a Hindu festival celebrated in Nepal to honor and seek forgiveness from the Sapta Rishis (Seven Sages), marked by rituals and reflection on purity and righteousness. Rishi Panchami can be seen as discriminatory against women due to its reinforcement of menstrual taboos, exclusion from religious activities, negative impact on self-esteem, restrictions on daily life, and perpetuation of harmful gender stereotypes.

Going through irregular periods or no periods at all? Getting facial and body hair growth? Acne on the face and headaches? This might be a sign of polycystic ovary syndrome.

In Nepal, there have been significant efforts over recent years to improve the situation for girls in schools, such as the “Free Sanitary Pad Initiative” announced by the government in 2019, or also the revision of the national school curriculum to include topics of Comprehensive Sexual and Reproductive Health (CSRH) and menstruation from grade 4 to 12.
In today's episode we have asked school student, how effective are these pads? How is Nepal government monitoring “Free Sanitary Pad Initiative" in local level?
Deep-rooted stigma and taboo surrounding menstruation and various forms of social practices and restrictions hinder many girls and women from fully participating in their daily social life during menstruation. Additionally, the lack of access to hygienic products and adequate sanitation poses challenges in safe menstrual hygiene management and in turn these factors lead to millions of girls worldwide missing school during menstruation.
This year, MHMPA is organizing a national event to raise awareness and advocate, but also to review, what effects the initiatives have had and continue to have impact on the lives of girls and women .The national slogan of this year’s celebration is dedicated to the national initiatives around education in schools and thus the slogan is decided as ‘#WeAreCommitted: Dignified Menstruation in Schools’

Menstrual symptoms vary from person to person. While some can easily pass through their monthly cycle as if it were a regular day, some experience severe pain. Despite this, most women try to push through and go to work anyway.
However, since the concept of menstrual leave has entered the global market, it has provided a relief to many. But some argue that the benefit is unfair, or that it could further stigmatise people with periods. The debate has started in Nepal too.
Does period leave help or hinder workers? In this episode, we are trying to understand what period pain is from a gynecologist's perspective and talking with working women about whether menstrual leave is necessary or not.

Episode 26 NO MORE PERIOD TAX PLEASE!
Nepal is one of many countries that impose a 13 percent value added tax (VAT) on menstrual products like sanitary pads. The tax imposed as luxury items increases the cost of menstrual products and hinders affordable access. Lack of safe and affordable menstrual products forces menstruators to adopt poor menstrual hygiene practices and increases physical health risks.
Recently, a youth group 'Youth Congress Nepal' submitted a memorandum to Finance Ministry regarding the same. So, in this episode, we discuss about the importance of removing tax from period products. Let's hear this conversation with its central committee member and Co-Founder of Political Literacy for Women, Manoj Puri.
We are in a digital movement against taxation in period products.
