About
Hi everyone, welcome to our podcast, Loud Slurp, hosted by two working journalists Ang Li and Vicky Huang. The inspiration for the podcast came to us when we talked about Asian cultures, food and China while slurping noodles in West Village in New York City. A year later, we finally started this podcast as a passion project and a way for two best friends to stay in touch while on lockdown due to Covid-19. Thanks for tuning in and please subscribe for more!

Allyship and community in the time of anti-Asian hate

Ever since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, there has been a stark rise in anti-Asian hate incidents. Specifically, the non-profit social organization Stop AAPI Hate has tracked 3795 reports of anti-Asian verbal and physical attacks between March 2020 and February 2021. But anti-Asian racism or racism itself is nothing new. In this episode, we seek to investigate the origins of racially motivated discrimination and how to build allyship and community in the midst of a difficult but critical moment for minorities. In a candid conversation, we speak with Doni Aldine, editor-in-chief at the Culturs Magazine and Kathleen Hou, beauty director at The Cut who penned the beautiful and poignant piece Swallowing Bitterness about what we can do to promote diversity and inclusion (This episode was recorded on March 20).
