Al Nawab had a really fascinating and turbulent life. He was known for his powerful revolutionary poems and scathing invectives against Arab dictators, and lived in exile in many countries, including Syria, Egypt, Lebanon and Eritrea. His poetry includes many Arab and international revolutionary symbols. Abdel Nasser nationalized the Suez Canal and secured Soviet assistance to build the Aswan High Dam after the U.S. and Britain canceled their offer of aid.  He is remembered as a charismatic figure, who aspired to lead the Arab world and succeeded briefly in forming the United Arab Republic with Syria (which collapsed shortly thereafter).
