After delay, we were able to get together so Jordan could introduce the CMC family to the Avett Brothers. The North Carolina based, four piece band has been around for over twenty years. This country adjacent band is relatively unknown by most country music fans, it’s time to change that! If you enjoy clever lyrics and a variety of rythyms, you will love these guys! As always, we went off task for quite a while at the beginning. Thank you! We love you! Please remember to Like, Share, Subscribe, Rate, Follow, Review, and all of the other things. Through inclement weather, sickness, busy lives, etc. we were finally able to sit down together and discuss a different style of artist. Zach Williams is a gospel singer from Arkansas. He overcame many personal battles through Christ and now spreads his testimony through his beautiful music. Due to the long layoff we had plenty to discuss before and throughout the show. We scrolled through his catalog and his testimony, as well as, shared a little bit of our views, etc. We have missed you while we were away and look forward to getting back to a more normal schedule! This week we, after delay, got together and Ryan surprised Jordan with an up and coming artist! He chose an artist on the Sunnyside…. Washington, where Zach Top was raised. A man with Zach’s look and voice seems like a combination Nashville has seen before, but we’ve never seen a talent like this. Only in his early 20’s, his voice is extremely polished. We finally got back together in spite of our busy schedules. The plan was Pilgrimage Festival review and then an album review. All bets were off when Bradley Gaskin graced us with a phone call. Bradley told us a story about a moment at the Grand Ole Opry that included Vince Gill. We had a fantastic conversation that I will not spoil here! We are getting better and better at guessing these outcomes, just a matter of time before we start our own annual awards show! We’re you shocked by any of the winners? If so, which one? Music Icon: John Prine

Ryan and Jordan meet in studio this week to shine a light on songwriting legend, John Prine. When you think of iconic storytellers, a few names come to mind: Dylan, Dolly, Cash… Prine, in our opinion, belongs in that conversation! Born in Illinois, Kentucky has claimed him as one of our own. One of the most impressive aspects of Prine’s career was his influence! So many artists today mention John Prine as a hero, mentor, or goal. The once mailman, wrote and sang his way into every hall of fame that had an open door. We hope y’all enjoy our tribute to this legend! Thank you all for your support! Elle King concert review; 1/28 in Glasgow, KY

We met up this week to discuss the Elle King concert in Glasgow, KY that Jordan and his wife attended. This was the second show they seen Elle perform. The Glasgow show came just one day after her new album release. With a packed house, she never missed a note! She mostly sang new songs while throwing in a few of her classic hits. We go over a few aspects of the show and then discuss the after party at a local bar. Jordan brushed off his old dancing shoes and hit the dance floor for the first time in 10 years. Ryan and Jordan get together to discuss one of the most unsung superstars in country music, Chris Knight. Chris is a storytelling mastermind that has a way crafting each detail to make you feel as though you are watching a motion picture. George and Tammy; “Two Story House” Episode 5 Review

This episode we take a walk through Tammy’s career apex and George’s attempt to climb back into country music’s good graces. With success, comes opportunistic leaches, like George Richey. Though they stayed married throughout the rest of their lives, they began their relationship due to a few convenience factors. Richey took advantage of Tammy’s vulnerability and weaseled his way into her bed, later took her as his wife. We discuss the episode scene by scene and take a few trips down rabbit holes as they come up. What did you think of the episode? Did you know Tammy was dealing with the addiction? The Greatest Vocalist in Country Music History: Chris Stapleton

This week, by request, we finally get back in the studio to put a spotlight on the best voice in the country music industry; Chris Stapleton. Chris’ voice has all the sound and soul of a blues crooner with all of the texture of a country dynamo. Personally, I would put him up against any other voice to battle it out. We discuss the recent problems with concert tickets prices and other recent topics. We go through Chris’ career, as well as, his early life, and his personal life. He has definitely earned every ounce of success he has! Since 2001, he has dedicated his life to this musical journey. After his bluegrass band, his southern rock band, and after meeting his beautiful wife, Morgane, his career finally started to reach the pinnacles that are all too obvious now. His performances are always crowd pleasing, but(Jordan’s opinion) if you truly want to hear that special sound that can never be duplicated by a mortal man, a duet with his wife Morgane… that is worth the price of admission. As the Valedictorian of his graduating class, it seems he was always destined for great things. He is only getting started if you ask me! Thanks, as always for supporting us! Please remember to like, share, rate, review, follow, etc. join us on our Facebook group page! That’s actually the place where Stapleton was requested, by friend of the show, James Blevins. "Stand By Your Man" George & Tammy Review of EP 2

After the second installment of “George and Tammy”, the guys get together to share their initial reactions. We learned ALOT about Tammy this week, deservedly so. The prettier half of this power couple sure did overcome a ton of adversity on her way to the top. Tammy dealt with the glass ceiling that still keeps women from the top today, but finessed the situation as well as one possibly could. The guys discuss the hurdles that female artists have to go through, as well as, the state of present day country music. “Stand By Your Man” was realized, rearranged, and released all within the time period of this episode. The show did a fantastic job tying in all of the true aspects of this dynamic duo and in doing that, they birthed the song, “Stand By Your Man.” Thank you all for listening/ watching. George & Tammy EP1 “The Race Is On” review

Buckle up folks! “George and Tammy” kicked off their six part series with a bang! Ryan and Jordan, from the Country Music Critic, have decided to do reaction videos to each episode of the limited series. Episode 1 came in with a long rumored story and went out the same way. George Jones was one of the most prolific stars in country music history. When you have stardom to his magnitude you get a long list of folklore that trickles down through history.  The couple that was seemingly “whispered” about the most, finally gets their story told and the record gets straightened. We break it down, scene by scene, and give our honest reactions and thought. We also go through the main castings, with a few of their past works so you can familiarize yourself with them. Remember to tune in to SHOWTIME on Sunday for episode 2, then look for our reaction next Monday. Check out our weekly podcast wherever you get your podcasts. Like, Share, Rate, Review, and Follow us. Billy Strings; String game is so strong it’s his last name…

This week Ryan and Jordan sit down to discuss a different type of artist than normal. Bluegrass is packed with top of the line musicians, none better than this week’s spotlighted artist(in Jordan’s opinion) Billy Apostal, AKA Billy Strings. Billy left his Michigan roots and has exploded onto the country, folk, and bluegrass scene. Taught by his step-dad, he took to stringed instruments like a fish to water. To watch him play is like watching poetry in motion. We go through his young career up to present day. As always, we go off the rails about many things, including but not limited to Thanksgiving. Paint Me a Tracy Lawrence

One of the most underrated artists in country music history, Tracy Lawrence, is this week’s spotlighted artist. Before diving into all things Tracy Lawrence, we daydream about winning the Powerball. After starting a dream of his own in 1990, Lawrence solidified his place in country music lore one album/song at a time. As time marches on, we are constantly reminded of the influence and direct impact his chart toppers made on the genre’s history. His trademark hair and mustache drove the women crazy in his hay day and his unique voice delighted country music fans for years on the airwaves. Lawrence battled turmoil and strife his entire career but somehow is still today performing and drawing crowds. Keith Whitley- “Don’t Close Your Eyes” on this episode!

This week Ryan and Jordan unpack the life and career of a Legend. From deep in the Eastern Kentucky mountains, Whitley exploded onto the scene packing his one of a kind gorgeous voice. Keith was one of the only dudes with a perm that could make it to legend status. 34 years wasn’t enough, but that’s all we got. Alcoholism took his life WAY too early! Still to this day, we hear the music that he graced our ears with. This haunted man showed you just how sad and devoted he was in every verse he wrote and sang. With wife, Lorrie Morgan, he found a love that he feared losing. Keith Whitley is the artist that other artists look up to. There will never be another quite like him. Taken far too soon but just late enough for him to solidify his place at the top of the industry. Thanks folks! Please remember to like, rate, review, share, follow, and tell your friends and family. God Bless! Also, please say a prayer for the flooding victims in Eastern Kentucky. Hasta Mañana --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/countrymusiccritic/support

The History of Carley Pearce

Carly Pearce (born Carly Cristyne Slusser) is an American country music singer and songwriter. Her material contains elements of both traditional and contemporary country-pop music. Pearce began performing professionally in her teens, appearing on several albums of bluegrass material in the 2000s. After moving to Nashville, Tennessee, she began gaining more widespread notice. Pearce first gained major recognition in 2017 when her self-penned "Every Little Thing" found an audience on satellite radio. The song helped Pearce secure a major label recording contract and became a major hit, reaching number one on the Billboard country chart. Her debut album of the same name debuted in the top five of the Billboard Top Country Albums chart. Pearce has since released new material, including the 2020 single "Next Girl" from 29, an EP released in February 2021. Josh Kiser in Studio!

Josh Kiser Cleveland, Tennessee is bursting with pride since hometown boy Josh Kiser has become the newest rising artist/writer in Nashville’s country music scene. Kiser found his sweet spot by blending traditional 90’s sounds with a touch of rock&soul to his production to create a sound that resonates well with longtime country fans, as well as newer listeners who most call “Kiser Kountry”. He moved to Nashville in 2019 to pursue his music career. Before moving to the city, he signed a production deal with “Starts With Music”, a company owned by Nathan Chapman and Kevin Kadish. After moving to Nashville, he quickly signed a publishing deal with Liz Rose Music and Warner Chappell Music Publishing. Kiser draws his influences from artists like: Travis Tritt, The Eagles, George Straight, Ray Charles and Hank Jr. The realness in his songs and sound are evident by the pain in his voice and the truth of his lyrics. Kiser is hammering out his own creative niche that fans will readily identify with the East Tennessee native himself Josh Kiser. He just released his first single, “Big on the Little Things” followed by “Whiskey Wins” which are both available to stream on all platforms. He has opened for notable acts such as Midland, Drake White, Tracy Byrd, Craig Campbell and more! _Liz Rose Music.  We are so excited for JOSH KISER FOLKS!  --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/countrymusiccritic/support
