My podcasts vary from interviews with people, storytelling of my past experiences, and sharing other stories that are uplifting, caring, and sensitive topics most people don't want to engage in, but listen to with interest and concern. Some of the podcasts contain Christian connotations and current events at the time of the podcast. The intent is for uplifting moments while sharing life lessons and reasonable thinking.

Be of good cheer | John 16:33
My notes and discussion emphasize the biblical teaching of "being of good cheer" or having courage and confidence despite facing trials and sorrows in the world.
Jesus assures his disciples of his victory over the world, encouraging them to find peace in him. Despite impending persecution and suffering, believers are reminded that they are secure in God's love and that nothing can separate them from it.
The key takeaways include the assurance of victory through Christ, the call to confidence and courage, and the promise of inner peace.

Jesus the evangelist | Mark 1:1
Evangelism isn't about a what, but a Who. Maybe that's why God has given us so many ways to evangelize? Because God's love in Jesus is something no one can adequately express, and no heart can fully fathom. We simply have to live with Him, not just for a season or a semester, but all eternity. What "is", is in the bible? | Phil 4:8-9
What does "is mean in the bible? "Is", is present tense. In theology, the present moment represents a significant concept known as "the sacrament of the present moment." It emphasizes the belief that God is not only present in our past and future, but most importantly, in our present experiences. It teaches us to be fully aware and attentive to the present moment, recognizing that it is the time in which we can encounter God's presence and experience His grace, love, and transformative power. Scanning your heart | Psalms 139:23-24
So the question is…
How do we scan the unseen part of us—-the soul? That's where the Holy Spirit comes in. As we study our Bible, the Holy Spirit shows us our failures and weaknesses. Then He prescribes the needed treatments of repentance, faith, and obedience. There will always be some element in our lives that is in need of introspection and improvement. Don't be afraid to ask the Lord where and how to improve. When you ask Him to scan your heart, He will, and He will reveal the results to you. Then work to make those changes with His strength and power to guide you. Listen in for a deeper dive into what the Word says.

We will be exploring the topic of relationships in the Roman Church, based on the passages from Romans 14:1-15:13 and 16:3-15. In these chapters, Paul addresses the issues and dynamics within the churches in Rome. In Romans 14, Paul discusses the matter of judging others based on what they eat. He emphasizes that it is not our place to judge others in such matters. Whether someone eats meat or not is not of utmost importance. We are called to live for the Lord and recognize that when we die, we die to the Lord. It is God who will judge each one of us, so we should not put stumbling blocks in the way of others. When we allow the devil to slither into some habit in our lives, it causes a loss of spiritual power. When we make excuses for stepping away from the truths and standards God has set for us, we open ourselves up to sin and the accompanying guilt that, comes with it. The best way to avoid spiritual blackouts is to keep sin from entering our lives. But the real question is how do we do it? Understanding hell | Mat 25:41
JESUS speaks often about the reality of hell, describing it as a place of eternal punishment and separation from God. The word translated “hell” in Mark 9:43 is the Greek word Gehenna, which comes from the Hebrew name for a place called the “Valley of Hinnom.” Jesus uses this place to paint a vivid image of what hell is like. The Jewish people often associated the Valley of Hinnom with spiritual death. The risk of not believing in Christ is far greater than any risk associated with believing in Him. The consequence of rejecting Christ and choosing to live apart from Him is eternal separation from God in hell. Listen in so we can learn more about hell. Carjacking prevention--staying safe.
In this podcast episode, we will be discussing carjacking prevention. Carjacking, the armed theft of automobiles from their drivers, has become a prevalent crime in recent years. It can occur anywhere and at any time, even in seemingly safe neighborhoods and during daylight hours.
One reason carjacking is on the rise is because stealing parked cars, especially luxury models equipped with advanced alarm systems, has become increasingly difficult. As a result, car thieves find it easier to steal a car when the owner is present, with the keys in the ignition.
While there are no foolproof ways to avoid carjacking, there are precautions you can take to minimize the risk. It's important to be alert and aware of your surroundings at all times. Listen in for some tips on how to stay safe and reduce you risks.

The Lord's prayer-what Jesus said | Mat 6:5-15
Who do we pray too, Jesus or God?
Does Satan listen in on our prayers? How can we keep him from knowing what we are revealing about ourselves?
In Matthew 6:5–15, Jesus gives His disciples guidance on how to pray.
He begins by warning them not to pray to be seen by others, but rather to pray in secret. He then gives them an example of how to pray, which is commonly known as the Lord’s Prayer.

The topic of the end times has fascinated people for centuries. In this podcast, we will explore what Jesus had to say about the end times and what we can learn from his teachings. Accountable Leadership | Are you leading?
Responsibility is the obligation to do something, while accountability is accepting the consequences of one's actions or decisions related to that responsibility. Responsibility is a duty, while accountability is the obligation to answer for the outcome of fulfilling that duty. Accountability is often seen as a higher level of responsibility, as it involves taking ownership and being answerable for the results of one's actions. I like to think of the two, responsibility and accountability, like a coin. They have two different sides but one cannot be without the other. Listen in for a deeper dive into accountability. What Jesus said about temptation | Mat 26:41
Before we look at what Jesus said about temptation, it is important to note that he himself faced temptation. In Matthew 4:1-11, Jesus is led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. Each time the devil tempts him, Jesus responds with Scripture, ultimately resisting the devil's schemes. What Jesus Said About Temptation: In Matthew 26:41, Jesus tells his disciples to "Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak." This shows that Jesus understood the power of temptation and the need for vigilance in resisting it. Listen in today so we can take a deep dive into our temptations. What Jesus says about Depression &Loneliness | Psalms 25:16
Many famous individuals throughout history have experienced feelings of loneliness and depression. Their struggles serve as a reminder that these emotions can affect anyone, regardless of their outward success or recognition. Depression and loneliness are common struggles that many people face. But what does Jesus have to say about these difficult emotions? We will explore some key examples of what Jesus says about depression and loneliness. He experienced these emotions Himself. In Matthew 26:36–38, Jesus goes to the garden of Gethsemane to pray before His arrest and crucifixion. He tells His disciples, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.” This shows that even Jesus, the Son of God, experiences deep sorrow and anguish. Listen in today as we take a deeper dive about this topic.

Critical Thinking for Leaders
Leadership is a complex and multifaceted concept that requires a variety of skills and qualities to be effective. The ability to think independently and critically, to solve problems, and to take responsibility and accountability for one's actions are all essential components of effective leadership. However, these skills alone do not make a great leader. Critical thinking for leaders is the ability to analyze information, evaluate different perspectives and evidence, and make informed decisions based on logic and reason. It involves questioning traditions, identifying predispositions, and considering different viewpoints to arrive at a well-reasoned and informed decision. Jesus never used the phrase, I don’t care, but there are a number of things that Jesus did not consider a priority and illustrated that he didn’t care about certain issues. Thomas overcomes | John 20:25
Thomas was one of Jesus’ most loyal followers. The Gospels portray him as reflective, not talkative. On the three occasions where his words are recorded, it’s clear Thomas thought long and hard before speaking. Once, in the wake of a friend’s death, Thomas broke the silence, saying that he was willing to die for Jesus if it came to that (see John 11:16). When everything came crashing down the following day, Thomas was devastated. They all were, of course, but Thomas seemed to take it especially hard. While the rest huddled together in fear, Thomas was not with them. On Resurrection Sunday, when Jesus appeared to his disciples, Thomas was nowhere to be found. He emerged from hiding to find his buddies beside themselves with joy. “We have seen the Lord!” they exclaimed. Thomas wasn’t buying it: “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe” (John 20:25). This may sound like hard-heartedness, but it wasn’t. We know this because a few days later, when Jesus graciously appeared to Thomas, he fell to his knees and confessed, “My Lord and my God!” (John 20:28). Listen in for more about why Thomas was a great man of faith and not of doubt.

Christophanies in the Old Testament | John 8:58
Christophany is a pre-incarnate appearance of Jesus Christ in the Old Testament. The Old Testament points to Jesus through various types of people, such as Moses, who is seen as a type of Christ. Moses led the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt, just as Jesus leads his people out of bondage to sin. In Genesis 18, three men visit Abraham, and one of them is believed to be Jesus Christ. Abraham refers to him as "my Lord" and "Adonai" which is a name for God. And in Gen 22:11-18 the Angel of the Lord appearing to Abraham. Joshua encounters a man with a drawn sword who identifies himself as the commander of the Lord's army. Josiah’s mission | 2Kings 23:-21-25
Josiah was only 8 years old when he became King, after his father's murder. His father had been wicked, as had the Jewish kings and culture for generations before him. Real acceptance & adoption | Eph 1:4-5
I have a few friends and family who have experienced the joy and the struggle of adopting. For some, adoption came at a cost—of finances, time and emotional energy—but for each it has brought great joy. Adoption is a beautiful thing and a powerful picture of who God is. In Ephesians, Paul tells us that adoption was never “Plan B.” God actually had it in mind before He even created the earth! Wow! God’s plan was always for us to know the full range of His mercy and grace as His adopted children. In adopting us, God gives us the very Spirit of His Son and grants us to feel the affections of belonging to the family of God. There is a deep personal and spiritual bond between God our Father and us, His children. God says, tell me personally if you want to accept me, we don’t have to be in the halls of Justice to be legally adopted, but only in the pathway of Christ. Why fear and anxiety? | 2Tim 1:7
Paul’s words to Timothy are equally God’s words to us. He has given each one of us a spirit of “power, love and self-discipline”, or as in some translations, "a sound mind" (2 Timothy 1:7). Therefore, we never should respond to circumstances or people in fear, because we have the power of God living within us — the very power that dispels all fear and anxiety. Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the United States. Today, I will share with you three key points for us to remember and learn. John tells us, “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear” (1 John 4:18). Ask God to impart to you more of Christ’s love and to take away any torment you feel—be direct about it. As you do, fear will lose its grip on you. Join me today and know how to conquer the fears and anxieties in your life.

If I could show you a plan. | Rom 9:6-13
Mal 1:2-4 is a great example of God’s love for Israel. And Edom will never be allowed to build again (Edomites are today’s Petra in Jordan). The Edomites were the descendants of Esau, the firstborn son of Isaac and the twin brother of Jacob. Esau became the father of the Edomites and Jacob became the father of the Israelites, and the two nations continued to struggle through most of their history. "Yet I have loved Jacob, but Esau I have HATED, and I have turned his mountains into a wasteland and left his inheritance to the desert jackals." Romans chapter 9 makes it abundantly clear that loving Jacob and hating Esau was entirely related to which of them God chose. Many times we may ask ourselves, why did God choose that person instead of me? Or why was that person promoted instead of me? My qualifications were much better? I have seniority! What matters is his perfect plan? God knew all along how Esau was going to treat his brothers people. God also knows the outcome for your position if you get into the wrong spot. God has your back. God’s plans and unexplained events in our lives are for our own good. We should rely on Jesus for our plans because He is the ultimate source of wisdom and guidance.

Be vigilant, not revengeful Gen 35:1-2
Jacob wanted to be obedient to God, and he was. But he knew he had to clean up his own household first. We read in the previous chapter how his two sons slaughtered the men of Shechem, because Shechem had raped their sister. So they took an unlawful revenge. God says vengeance is mine, not yours. Remember when you put your finger at someone you have three more pointed right back at you. To be vigilant, we have to set the revengefulness aside, which means we need to ask God to forgive us of our sins as we forgive others who have sinned against us. That’s a familiar phrase, isn’t it? Listen in today so we can take a deep dive into being vigilant.

What is apostasy? | Heb 3:12-14
Apostasy is the total rejection of Christianity by a baptized person who, having at one time professed the Christian faith, publicly rejects it. Apostasy is distinguished from heresy, which is limited to the rejection of one or more Christian doctrines by one who maintains an overall adherence to Jesus Christ. The Great Apostasy is a concept within Christianity to describe a perception that mainstream Christian Churches have fallen away from the original faith founded by Jesus and promulgated through his twelve Apostles. Listen in as we take a deeper dive into questions about the unpardonable sin, and let's ask ourselves about the characteristics of apostasy.

Getting our feet wet | Joshua 3:13
Joshua was incharge of leading the people across the Jordan to win a battle. This was a shortcut, but not an easy one. Yet God directed them to cross about 100 feet of water that may be approximately 10 feet deep. The crossing of a turbulent river at flood stage would have been difficult. This happened around 1406 BC. God assured them that if they entered the water with the Ark, they would enter dry land as their feet got wet. That has to be a defining moment for their trust and faith in God. In this instance, the priests, carrying the Ark had to be thinking that if we drop this Ark they were dead. They knew that the fast flowing water could trip them up. and kill them. For them to dare, to step into the water with the Ark of God, not only demonstrated courage, it was a complete illustration of their faith, trust, and conviction. Listen in as we think about our own challenges in life.

Absalom’s revenge and EGO | 2Sam 14:25-27
Today's story is really a sad one, but life lessons are taken away from Absalom's ego, and hatred, along with David's carelessness of not being a dad to Absalom. The story of Absalom's rebellion against his father, King David, is told in the Second Book of Samuel (chapters 14 to 18). The handsome Absalom is distinguished by his extraordinarily abundant hair, which is thought to symbolise his pride (2 Sam. 14:26). Absalom was the third son of King David. The first recorded event defining Absalom’s life also involved his sister Tamar and half-brother Amnon. During the festivities, in the presence of David’s other sons, Absalom had his servants kill Amnon in cold blood. As Absalom was riding under some trees trying to get away from David's men, his long hair became entangled in the branches, and he was unhorsed. General Joab found Absalom suspended in mid-air and killed him there. You will want to listen in to know the horrific story with life lessons.

Is there power in the name of Jesus? | 1John 5:13
Any power attributed to the name of Jesus originates in the Person of Jesus. When we “believe in Jesus’ name,” we are trusting in the finished work of the risen Christ on the cross. Jesus is not a magic word. There is nothing special about the arrangement of the letters in His name. By simply calling out the name of “Jesus,” one cannot expect a special power, outcome, or better standing with God. Praying in Jesus’ name means praying with His authority (Luke 10:19) and asking God the Father to act upon our prayers because we come by faith in the name of His Son, Jesus. In my early days as a policeman, if somebody was fleeing from me on foot, I would say “Police, stop in the name of the law“! My authority and power came from the laws, written by the state legislators and approved by the governor in the state of Colorado. Nevertheless, we didn’t say, “stop in the name of the governor“. My badge, or my shield, represented my authorization and authority to the state of Colorado, which I had the authority to verbalize via commands and direction to those who were in violation of the law. Listen in for a more detailed discussion.

What is the Godhead? | Col 2:9
The term Godhead is found three times in the King James Version. In each of the three verses, a slightly different Greek word is used, but the definition of each is the same: “deity” or “divine nature.” The word Godhead is used to refer to God’s essential nature. We’ll take a look at each of these passages and what they mean. We are the offspring of God, not by images made by men. We were made by God or a part of his lineage. Paul’s argument is that all of creation virtually shouts the existence of God; we can “clearly” see God’s eternal power, as well as His “Godhead” in what He has made. We know he spoke these things into existence. This is written in Genesis, chapter 1, but what we don’t realize is that once he spoke the word, then his craftsmanship started taking place by the power of his words. He went into full intelligent design, knowing that someday we would be able to see his wonders beyond the naked eye. God intended for us to see the galaxies and the planets. Let's take a deeper dive into this study by listening to the podcast.

Are we reading too much? | Ecc 12:11-12
In Solomon’s day information was mostly limited to books. In our day information takes many other forms. If Solomon could say this when there was no printing press, Internet, television, radio, and only a fraction of the books we have what would he say if he lived in our day? The amount of information in our day is overwhelming and untrustworthy. Plant yourself in the Bible where “the words of the wise are like goads, and like nails firmly fixed; they are given by one Shepherd” (Ecclesiastes 12:11). Scripture must be our primary read and most important reference in life. Because we learn from it, and we know that every word was inspired by God. It doesn’t get any better than that. Listen in today for more insight on this topic.

Why Bread? | Matthew 2:1-2
What irony that Jesus was born in Bethlehem. Bethlehem means “house of bread”. Jesus is the bread of life, “ Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst” (John 6:35). On the night when was betrayed Jesus instituted His Supper, that the bread He blessed and gave to His disciples, and us is His body. The cup (wine), that He blesses and gave to them, and us is His blood for the forgiveness of our sins. This is the New Testament!
What did Jesus mean when he said, we must eat His flesh and drink His blood? Jesus’ graphic imagery about eating His flesh and drinking His blood is indeed puzzling at first.
Those who misunderstood Jesus and were offended by His talk about eating His flesh and drinking His blood were stuck in a physical mindset, ignoring the things of the Spirit. They were concerned with getting another physical meal, so Jesus uses the realm of the physical to teach a vital spiritual truth. Those who couldn’t make the jump from the physical to the spiritual turned their backs on Jesus and walked away (John 6:66). We will take a deeper dive into this whole topic if you will listen to the podcast today.

Why celebrate Christmas? | Luke 2:1-21
We celebrate Christmas because, as the angel said, the birth of Jesus Christ is “good news.” Good news is meant to be celebrated. In fact, the angel said the news of Jesus’ birth would cause “great joy” and would be “for all the people”—the joyful celebration would be universal. People around the globe would be glad for this occasion. We celebrate Christmas because, as the angel said, “A Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.” The three titles the angel applies to Jesus are important. Jesus is THE SAVIOR. He is the HUMAN MESSIAH, and he is the DIVINE LORD. In celebrating Christmas, we celebrate the Savior, because we needed deliverance. Hagar’s consequences | Gen 21: 17-19
The powerful story of Hagar in the Bible underscores how messy and complex God’s work in history really is. As people of faith, we believe that God answers prayer and keeps his promises, but this story will shake us out of simplistic notions of God’s call, God’s promises, and God’s faithfulness. Hagar is not just a supporting character in the story of Abraham and Sarah. She is not just the mother of Ishmael. Looking at Genesis 16 and 21 through Hagar’s eyes reveals that her story is Israel’s story. And it has a lot to teach us about how God shows up in our own stories. Keys to truly knowing God | John 17:3
Yahweh is the principal name in the Old Testament by which God reveals himself and is the most sacred, distinctive and incommunicable name of God. Within all of us there exists a strong desire to be known and to know others. We all like to think we are an influencer to others. Jesus was the King of influence and sometimes in controversy. The key to truly knowing God is found in what God has revealed about Himself in the Bible. He wants to be known (see Acts 17:27-28). Jesus revealed to us who God is, so in knowing God we must look to Jesus. Another key ingredient in truly knowing God is reading the Bible, God’s Word. In the Bible we have God’s revelation of His character, His promises, and His will. If you will listen in today, we will take a deeper dive into some key points about knowing God.

God transcends all things | Phi 4:7
When the scripture says that God transcends or passes all understanding, this refers to the only known knowledge or capabilities of mankind. God rises above any man’s law. If God wants the law of man to work in his peoples favor, he can cause that to happen beyond circumstances that we cannot understand. So we refer to them as coincidences. There is no such thing as a coincidence. I refer to them as God-cidences. If God does not agree with mans law, and he wants to guard or protect his people, he’s not obligated to operate within man’s realm, or known scientific facts. God is not bound by man’s absolute knowledge. Listen in and we will take a deeper dive into the transcendence of God.

What about loneliness? | Ps 25:16-19
Being alone and being lonely are two different things. One can be alone without being lonely, and one can be lonely in a crowded room. Loneliness is a state of mind, an emotion brought on by feelings of separation from other human beings. When we are lonely, we lose the sense of “will”. We wonder what our purpose is in life. We can become bitter against the world. Lonely people tend to argue about the littlest things in life. Everything is wrong or against me. Some lonely people lose their appetite for food, entertainment, and yes, even wanting to be around people. They just want to be left alone. The loneliness has a tumble affect of moving away from our surroundings and living in isolation. King David knew this all too well. David’s sins oppressed him, his enemies had enlarged his troubles and were multiplied, increasing in hate and violence. Listen in today for more insight and God's rescue plan.

Valued counselors | Proverbs 15:22
Twenty foolish advisors are no better than one, so the kind of counselors one seeks makes all the difference in the outcome. The bible gives many examples of people that received bad advice and reaped disastrous results. Saul died because he was unfaithful to the LORD. He even consulted a medium instead of asking the LORD for guidance. Human beings are fallible. No one gets it right 100 percent of the time. The wisest and most godly among us are still subject to human error. Having a multitude of counselors is valuable because hearing varied viewpoints gives us a healthier foundation upon which to form opinions.

Five fold use of scripture | 2Tim 3:15-17
Today, our discussion is about the five fold use of Scrpture. 1. Reproof, 2. Teaching (Eph 4:14), 3. Correction, 4. Training in righteousness (Col 3:16), 5. Consultation (Rom 15:4). Jesus used two teaching methods—storytelling and a teachable moment—to illustrate and summarize this truth into three words: The Good Samaritan. These three words bring to memory an example of what it takes to be a good neighbor and shows an example of love. We can think of God’s Word as a spiritual trainer or loving parent who only wants what’s best for us. We can immerse ourselves in God’s Word and rely on the Holy Spirit to reveal its truth to us (John 16:13). For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword. We may feel weak and vulnerable when Jesus makes obvious our weakness, however he doesn’t do it to hurt us, but instead it is intended to build us up! Listen in for more insight for living.

The power of the breath of God is divine inspiration that spreads throughout the Scripture. As we all know, every breath that we take is a blessing from God, and when we are speaking about our Savior, we are breathing the Word into people just as Jesus breathed on the Disciples and said with that same breath, “Receive the Holy Spirit." Do Christians and Muslims worship the same God? | John 17:20-23
The Muslim and Christian views of God have some similarities. Christians believe in one eternal God Who created the universe, and Muslims apply these attributes to Allah. Both view God as all-powerful, all-knowing, and all-present. Christians believe that Jesus was the incarnated Son of God, divine, and sinless. Islam teaches that Jesus was one of the most important prophets of God, but not the Son of God, not divine, and not part of the Trinity. Rather, Muslims believe the creation of Jesus was similar to the creation of Adam. Listen in for more detailed discussion.

What is a sin of omission? | James 4:17
What is a sin of omission? It is generally used in contrast with the corresponding phrase “the sin of commission,” or sins that a person actively commits. Paul contrasts the two concepts in Romans 7:14-20 . He decries his tendency toward both types of sin. He does what he doesn’t want to do and knows is wrong—the sin of commission—and he doesn’t do what he knows he should do and really wants to do—the sin of omission. This is a picture of the nature of Christ and our own nature that is in conflict with the flesh in which it dwells. This is a relationship battle. Listen in for more details in our study today.

What is biblical stewardship? | 1CO 3:9
Stewardship defines our practical obedience in the administration of everything under our control, everything entrusted to us. It is the consecration of one’s self and possessions to God's service. Stewardship acknowledges in practice that we do not have the right of control over ourselves or our property—God has that control. It means as stewards of God we are managers of that which belongs to God, and we are under His constant authority as we administer His affairs. The ultimate question, then, is this: Am I the lord of my life, or is Christ the Lord of my life? In essence, stewardship expresses our total obedience to God and our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Is Baptism necessary for salvation? | Rom 6:3-4
The belief that baptism is necessary for salvation is also known as "baptismal regeneration." Baptism is an important step of obedience for a Christian. I strongly believe that each and every Christian should be water baptized by immersion. Baptism illustrates a believer’s identification with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. The action of being immersed in the water illustrates dying and being buried with Christ. The action of coming out of the water pictures Christ’s resurrection. Requiring anything in addition to faith in Jesus Christ for salvation is a works-based salvation. To add anything to the gospel is to say that Jesus' death on the cross was not sufficient to purchase our salvation is out of context of what the bible says. Yes, there are some verses that seem to indicate baptism as a requirement for salvation. So let's take a deeper dive in today's podcast.

How can I forgive those who sin against me? Everyone has been wronged, offended, and sinned against at some point. How are Christians to respond when such offenses occur? Why do we forgive? Because we have been forgiven! Those who are not Christians, however, have not been forgiven by God and have neither the power nor the desire to forgive others. Forgiveness would be simple if we only had to grant it to those who come asking for it in sorrow and repentance. What is the purpose of fasting? | Ezra 8:23
A couple of years ago we talked about this in another podcast about the power of fasting. Today, we will talk about the purpose of fasting. So you can consider this part two of the message on fasting. In the OT, fasting often accompanied prayer as a demonstration of need before God (1 Kgs 21:9; 2 Chr 20:3; Neh 1:4; Dan 9:3). Throughout the Bible we most often find God’s people turn to fasting as the natural, inevitable response to a grievous sacred moment in life, such as death, sin and tragedy. But other times a fast is not a spontaneous reaction and we have time to prepare to respond both physically and spiritually. Fasting is not an end unto itself, but a means of focusing our minds and bodies for a spiritual reason. Whenever you fast, do so for a reason that is mentioned or modeled in the Bible. Fasting is a discipline that God's people have practiced in both the Old and New Testaments and throughout church history. Listen in to learn about ten primary purposes for fasting mentioned in Scripture.

What does the Bible say about luck? | Ecc 9:11-12
The main question is, do things happen by chance? If they do, then one can speak of someone being lucky or unlucky. But if they do not happen by chance, then it is inappropriate to use those terms. Much of what Ecclesiastes shares is from the perspective of a person who looks at life on earth without God, or life “under the sun.” From such a perspective—leaving God out of the picture—there seems to be good luck and bad luck. The idea is that God’s providence plays the determining role on all of our outcomes, whether it's action that He takes intentionally, or when God allows certain things to happen in our life. We cannot always determine whether God’s active or passive will is involved in the events of our lives, but we do know that all things that take place are under the umbrella of His will, whether active or passive, and, therefore, nothing is a matter of mere chance.

Do we agree with God? | Ezra 10:10-12
I've questioned myself many times if my simple desire to please God was enough or satisfying to God. I think God wants me to obey because I want to please him. But he also wants me to obey because I agree with him about what is right and good. He wants my mind as well as my heart to be aligned with his. People often say that the three words they most love to hear are “I love you.” Running a close second must be the words, “you are right.” I know parents who longed to hear those words from their kids, which makes me think that God longs to hear those same words from each of us. Being righteous is a way of saying to God, you are right. The Greek word for righteous in the New Testament literally means “the person whose way of thinking, feeling, and acting is wholly conformed to the will of God.” In other words, God is right and I agree with him. Listen in for a more in-depth study of agreeing with God.

Are we legalistic? | Gal 3:24-25
What does the Bible say about legalism? How can Christians avoid falling into the trap of legalism? The word "legalism" doesn’t occur in the Bible. It is a term Christians use to describe a doctrinal position emphasizing a system of rules and regulations for achieving both salvation and spiritual growth. Those who hold a legalistic position often fail to see the real purpose for law, especially the purpose of the Old Testament law of Moses, which is to be our "schoolmaster" or "tutor" to bring us to Christ. Even true believers can be legalistic. Rather, We are instructed to be gracious to one another. Many legalistic believers today make the error of demanding unqualified adherence to their own biblical interpretations and even to their own traditions. Legalists may appear to be righteous and spiritual, but legalism ultimately fails to accomplish God's purposes because it is an outward performance instead of an inward change. Is self-esteem in the bible? | Heb 10:35-36
Christians attain self-worth and esteem by having a right relationship with God. We can know we are valuable because of the high price God paid for us through the blood of His Son, Jesus Christ. In one sense, low self-esteem is the opposite of pride. In another sense, low-self-esteem is a form of pride. Some people have low self-esteem because they want people to feel sorry for them, to pay attention to them, to comfort them. Low self-esteem can be a declaration of “look at me” just as much as pride. What is the image of God? | 1Cor 15:49
The Bible teaches that to be human is to image God and to image God is to be human. In this unique relationship with humanity, God is giving to humans a special moral status and vesting them with dignity and respect. The structural view of the image of God points to certain qualities or abilities that distinguish humans from animals – rational capacity, volition, moral awareness, and consciousness, for instance. The important point is that human beings, and only human beings, are imagers of God. Every human being has special status in God’s eyes (see Psalm 8) and every person should be treated with dignity and respect. Join me and listen to a more in-depth conversation about the image of God.

Crucified with Christ, why? | Gal 2:20
Paul is speaking in this passage of the fact that when Jesus died, he had Paul and Paul’s sin in his own body. Paul owed a great penalty for his own grievous sin, and Jesus paid it. Paul’s sin was imputed to Christ, and Christ’s righteousness was imputed to Paul. This, of course, was not just for Paul, but for everyone who believes in the name of Jesus and puts their faith in him to save them by his death on the cross. With Christ’s crucifixion, we are crucified with him. In his resurrection, we are raised with him. Now we live an eternal life, though we are still on earth in this mortal body. By faith, we remember that we are in him, having died with him, we live with him. Listen in as we do a deep dive into this verse and what it means for us and our future.

Why apologetics? | Phil 1:7
The English word "apology" comes from a Greek word which basically means "to give a defense." Christian apologetics, then, is the science of giving a defense of the Christian faith. There are many skeptics who doubt the existence of God and/or attack belief in the God of the Bible. There are many critics who attack the inspiration and inerrancy of the Bible. There are many false teachers who promote false doctrines and deny the key truths of the Christian faith. THE MISSION of Christian apologetics is to combat these movements against the truth, and instead promote the Christian God and Christian truth. There is no excuse for a Christian to be completely unable to defend his or her faith. Every Christian should be able to give a reasonable presentation of his or her faith in Christ. Not every Christian needs to be an expert in apologetics.

Is Liturgical worship for Christians? | Acts 2:44-47
Several New Testament passages do give us important ingredients that should be part of a healthy local church. While some churches are labeled as "liturgical" because of their very formal and predetermined order and manner of worship, all churches to some degree have a format that they typically follow. What is the difference between worship and liturgy? According to Andrews University: it is words, while “worship” names an internal state of human consciousness, “liturgy” designates objective forms and rituals, external to human consciousness. even in non-liturgical churches, certain songs and choruses are sung repeatedly over time and carry the same danger of being sung without sincerity rather than with reflection upon what is being said and sung. Whether a church is liturgical is not as important as the soundness of the doctrine of the church and the soundness of the pastor doctrinally and spiritually. Listen in for more details.

Rank Choice Voting, a bag of tricks
Our City Council wants Rank Choice Voting in the City of Fort Collins, CO. Why? What's the matter with the way they were voted into office? This should be an initiative from the people, not the Council. Almost 70% of Rank Choice Voting Elections did not produce a majority winner. Many votes are tossed out because the voters chose not to rank any one in a specified order, and only wanted to vote for one. The voters lose with this cleverly disguised technique. It's a bag of tricks and will cost upwards to $1 million versus our current system that approximately $70,000.

Are there consequences for sin? | Eph 1:7
The Bible gives the good news that Jesus paid the price for our sin (Ephesians 1:7), yet in many ways we still suffer the consequences of our sins. Coming to Christ does not erase the temporal effects of sin; rather, our salvation guarantees that we will not face the eternal consequences of sin. On the basis of Christ’s perfect sacrifice, those who believe are no longer under God’s condemnation (Romans 8:1). Sin is a serious enough problem for God to have sent His Son into the world to die. We dare not take sin lightly. We are all wayward at times. God’s purpose in allowing us to experience disciplinary consequences of sin, true to His nature, is perfect. Listen in for more insight. The Power of the Gospel | Mat 9:35-10:8 15.15 MB | 15:41
Have you ever read a portion of the Bible and felt absolutely captivated by it to the point where you can’t get it out of your head? At times words we read enthrall our every waking moment. That's the power of the gospel that we are experiencing. Jesus taught the religious, preached the good news of the kingdom to all who would hear, and healed people who had sicknesses and diseases on a regular basis. This was part of his everyday life. Everywhere He went he demonstrated the values of the kingdom in both speech and action.

What does it mean to be poor in spirit? | Matthew 5:3
Some propose that Jesus is speaking of financial poverty, that He is advocating being poor so that riches and possession don’t come between us and God. While it is true that Jesus elsewhere warned against seeking riches (Matthew 6:24), that wasn’t Jesus’ point in Matthew 5:3. Jesus is speaking of being “poor in spirit”; i.e., being “spiritually poor.” In the beatitudes, Jesus is concerned with spiritual realities, not material possessions. Join me today and listen to more details of what it is like to be poor in spirit.

Who is a false prophet? | Jer 23:16
The concept of knowing whose word to pay attention to has precedent in Scripture. “False prophets” are still with us. “Experts” dispense advice while ignoring God altogether or twisting His words to suit their purposes. We have seen this occur on the pulpit, social media and many other electronic venues. I’ve Watched television evangelism or ministers that want to mail you a handkerchief that will heal your body for a donation of money. They have made hundreds of thousands of dollars with this kind of false teaching. Rather than speak the Word of the Lord, false prophets delivered messages that originated in their own hearts and minds. True prophets are motivated by loyalty to God above all else, whereas false prophets are motivated by self-interest and a desire to be popular among the people. Through God’s Word and Spirit, God has given us what we need to begin to discern the false from the true.

What is family, Community & Unity? | Gal 3:7-14
In India, animals are worth more than the human. In Hatti, people think they are cursed. Anyone can curse another with Voodoo. What do you do if you feel like you are cursed? Everyone who doesn’t trust Jesus is cursed. The Scripture says: “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us.” If we only had faith in Christ, the curse is lifted. This is a clear message of unity, family, and community. Faith bounds us together like family and it makes us the family of God. All of us together as one community or family are Christ’s body, and each one of us is apart of it. Baptism represents death of an old life and birth into a new one. In the new life, the law’s curse no longer has any force. God didn’t intend for us to live in isolation. He specifically designed us to crave—and thrive in—relationship with others. Tune in for more details...

Have you committed the unpardonable sin? | Mark 3:28-30
The "blasphemy challenge" is an internet-based project that invites young people to submit videos to Youtube or other video internet hosts, in which they record themselves blaspheming or denying the existence of the Holy Spirit. The Pharisees said that the work of Jesus by the Holy Spirit was really the devil's work. Nobody should say that the work of God is Satan’s work. God will forgive anyone who is really sorry. But to say that God’s work is Satan’s work is a different kind of sin. It means that a person has decided to oppose God. To blaspheme the Holy Spirit is to attribute the work of God to an evil (literally unclean) spirit. We will learn much more in today's podcast. I encourage you to listen in.

The apprentice | Mark 1:16-18
The call of Jesus was straight forward….come and follow me. Another way to translate that is “come and be my disciple." In the first century world, Discipleship was the apex of the Jewish education system. There were three levels to Jewish education. The terminology, “Christian” is used 2 or 3 times in the new testament and only in a negative light. Whereas disciple is used 268 times in the NT, more than any other moniker to be the sons and daughters of God. Jesus’ followers were called “disciples” long before they were ever called “Christians.” Jesus used the term disciple but never Christian.
The word disciple in Hebrew is “tal-ma-deen”. It can also be translated as “follower”, or “student." The best descriptive word is “apprentice”. Jesus was known as Rabi, and he was telling them because he was a Rabi, he was going to make the disciples “great teachers”. That’s the heart and soul of “apprenticeship”. Another Greek term for “disciple” in the New Testament is mathetes, which means more than just “student” or “learner.” A disciple is a “follower,” someone who adheres completely to the teachings of another, making them his rule of life and conduct. John Mark Comer has a great teaching about this topic.

Mind your own business | Col 3:2-3
The average person has more than 6,000 thoughts in a single day. That’s a lot of thinking! There are so many distractions in our lives. Even with the chaotic pace of our days, there are quick and simple ways to focus on being mindful. The practice of mindfulness is simply bringing awareness to the current moment, without judgement. God wants us to take our thoughts deep inside our minds and stay focused on him or be constantly thinking about His guidance. The scripture teaches us to "love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." We will identify what the three voices of our life are i.e. heart, soul and mind. Our conscience can be a good guide, as long it’s germinating from our heart (spirit). If we truly mind our own business, it will be the mind of Christ and what he is doing through us. Be mindful of this.

Living the dream--a new life | Rom 6:4-10
The believer’s power over sin and the ability to lead a new life stem from identification with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. From God’s perspective, Jesus’ death to sin is ours as well. His rising to new life means that we also begin to lead a new life, and in the future our bodies will also be raised. In scholastic achievments, we can read a book and know what it says, but we may not necessarily believe it. In the life of Christ, we cannot possibly “know God’s word” without believing in Him. Our “old selves” are not a nature that we possess or just one part of who we are; it reflects who we were in Adam. We are heirs of the sin and death that Adam introduced into the world (Rom 5:12), we were slaves to the power of sin. But as people who are now in Christ, we have gone through crucifixion with him (see also Gal 2:20). When Jesus died on the cross, we also died to sin that ruled in our former selves.

When is the rapture? | 1Th 4:13-18
The timing of the rapture in relation to the tribulation is one of the most controversial issues in the church today. First, it is important to recognize the purpose of the tribulation. According to Daniel 9:27, there is a seventieth "seven" (seven years) that is still yet to come. While this does not necessarily indicate that the church could not also be present, it does bring into question why the church needs to be on the earth during that time. Another crucial passage on the timing of the rapture is Revelation 3:10, in which Christ promises to deliver believers from the "hour of trial" that is going to come upon the earth. Will we know when the rapture occurs? Of course, we are in it…but how far in advance? Listen in and we will take a deeper dive into how we will know.

Reach out and touch someone | Mark 1:41
Experiments, and research has uncovered an astonishing number of poor health outcomes that result when we are deprived of touch. The correlation between anxiety, depression and stress and touch is large and inversely related. There is something about “touching” that is so relevant and needed not only for healing, but for comfort, and a unique way of communicating. The laying on of hands was an action referred to on numerous occasions in the Bible to accompany the conferring of a blessing or authority. The laying on of hands was used to bless and provide an inheritance to families. If my mother didn’t hug me or my grandmother didn’t put her arms around me, I worried. Today we will learn a lot about why the laying on of hands is important.

Yes, the miracles of the Bible are to be taken literally, just as all Scripture is to be taken literally, except those portions which are clearly intended to be symbolic. Each of the miracles in the Bible served a purpose and accomplished something that couldn't be accomplished in any other way. Once we begin to doubt the reality of any miracle, we have to discount everything the Bible says came about as a result of the miracle, which puts all of Scripture in doubt.

To restore means "to repair, renovate, or return to a former condition." The soul is the deepest part of us, our spirit and innermost being. Bringing things back to its original state, or how God first met you when you were so much on fire for him. While there are all kinds of books written by men offering worldly wisdom, only God's Word is truly capable of restoring the soul and offering hope in times of distress. Making disciples is not the same as making converts. Converts come from decisions; disciples com from dedication. And it takes one to make one. As leaders, you are held accountable for those you lead. These people are looking to you for guidance, like little children. We have a responsibility to lead and to lead well. We can’t take our leadership lightly, Otherwise we will be held accountable.
In the face of such temptation, many Christians seek out an “accountability partner” to pray with and help share the burdens that come with doing spiritual warfare. Knowing we are in a battle against the forces of darkness, we should want as much help as we can gather around us, and this may include making ourselves accountable to another believer who can encourage us in the fight. We have nine takeaways for us today. Have a Merry Christmas.

Am I responsible? | Gal 6:4-6
The Bible teaches the concept of personal responsibility: “The one who sins is the one who will die. The child will not share the guilt of the parent, nor will the parent share the guilt of the child." I like verse 4 of our reading. In some respects it’s kind of like saying “mind your own business” or, “it’s none of your business about the faults of others, you have plenty of your own to work on.” In the Old Testament, the Law emphasized the responsibility of individuals to respond in morally appropriate ways to God’s revealed truth. God clearly defined right and wrong, and His people are expected to do what is right.
At times, people try to avoid personal responsibility, usually through blame-shifting. The Bible expects us to take personal responsibility in all areas of life. In the book of Romans, Paul really holds us responsible for ourselves and for others. How can I be more responsible? In this podcast I share with you my 13 take-a-ways from the Scriptures in today’s lesson.

Meetings, Meetings, Meetings! | Heb 10:25
When we pause, we suddenly realize that we have a lot of meetings in our life. It's the key way of getting things done and organized. The Christian life is not meant to live isolated, but live in fellowship with other believers. For this reason, Hebrews 10:24–25 tells us to “consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together... Regular, real-life, day-to-day fellowship meetings with other Christians is an essential component of Christian growth and perseverance.
The early believers were devoted to meeting daily in their homes for teaching, fellowship, worship, eating meals, sharing in the Lord’s Supper, and praying together. The early believers came together for larger corporate meetings (Acts 2:44). Their commitment to one another was so profound that they pooled their resources and shared what they had with those in need. Meeting together won’t keep us from being attacked, but it sure will make us stronger, and prepared to withstand the attacks or prepared to meet our Maker.

Comfort one another | John 14:1
In today's podcast, we will learn how Jesus comforts his disciples because they are worried about the future. He knows what bothers us and he knows that our emotions tend to run interference with reality or sensibility. After all, he gave us our emotions, but he also gave us the ability to comfort one another. Jesus also promised to send us the Comforter (the Holy Spirit).
When Jesus tells his disciples, “don’t let your hearts be troubled,” he was pointing out that we allow ourselves to be uncomfortable..as we see that word, “let”, suggests that we are allowing or giving permission to troublesome or uncomfortable situations to take control of us. Jesus tells us, “don’t do that”…you don’t have to allow it to overcome us, but we must overcome the the uncomfortableness in our life with our trust in God.

I've share some personal stories about her life of struggles and success and how she impressed others because of her love for the Lord and her family. When she entered heaven, I'm certain that God said, "well done my good and faithful servant." Mary Jane will always live in our hearts forever.

Why Hallelujah? | Rev 19:1-6
Hallelujah means, Praise ye Jehovah, Praise God, praise the Lord... The difference between Hallelujah and Alleluia is that the Hallelujah is used for joyful praise of the Lord, whereas, Alleluia is used for traditional chants in the name of the Lord. The term Alleluia is a Latin word that has been derived from the Greek transliteration of hallelujah. Did you know that that word "Hallelujah" is the same in just about every language on earth? In this podcast, I will share some great ways to praise the Lord and what He says about them! I'll also share five key points in what praise (hallelujah) means to me. Praise is a game-changer. If you are looking for the keys to Heaven, keep praising and the gates will open!

Overcoming | Rom 12:21
Martin Luther King repeated the phrase ‘we shall overcome’ over and over again. He was echoing the words of folksinger Joan Baez. Life involves many struggles, trials, tests, temptations, difficulties and battles. Yet, in Christ you can be an overcomer. To overcome means to conquer, prevail…to carry off the victory, according to Strong’s and Thayer’s definition. When you come to the point of being overwhelmed, God overcomes when we are living on overtime, no matter what the situation is about. Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? The bible says we can overcome by the words of our testimony. In today's podcast, we will learn how we can overcome anything in our life with some key scriptures and twelve great take-aways.

What was our first love like? | 1John 4:16-19
God started the process; when he loved us he enabled us to respond to him in love and to extend that love to other Christians. Assuming we love God, let’s do think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love, and good works? For example: Maybe it’s the love of working for the church pro-bono (greeters, singing, teaching, caring for the sick, mentoring others, providing charitable hospitality. Revelation 2:4 (NLT) says; “But I have this complaint against you. You don’t love me or each other as you did at first! It's important that we rekindle the love we first had when we accepted Christ. Stir up the gift of God within you. In today's podcast, we will learn how to stir our love up again and we will read about examples of such love.

Can we change? | Gal 5:19-21
The Bible makes it clear that everyone receives the Holy Spirit the moment he or she believes in Jesus Christ. One of the primary purposes of the Holy Spirit coming into a Christian's life is to change that life. It is the Holy Spirit's job to conform us to the image of Christ, making us more like Him. The Christian life is a battle of the sinful flesh against the new nature given by Christ. It is one of the main purposes of the Christian life, though, to progressively allow the Holy Spirit to produce more and more of His fruit in our lives and to allow the Holy Spirit to conquer the opposing sinful desires. Thaylor Iron Rope, author of the book, "The Book of Service", once said: "Don't just talk about it, be about it."

Where is God? | 1John 4:4
People often ask the question, where is God? God has revealed Himself to us through His Word, the Bible. Throughout Scripture, the existence of God is treated as a self-evident fact. When Benjamin Franklin wrote his autobiography, he didn’t waste time trying to prove his own existence. Likewise, God does not spend much time proving His existence in His book. Jesus is also with us here, in this world. Jesus, being God, has all of the attributes of God, including omnipresence. The Bible is chalked full of stories of examples when God and Jesus walked and talked with people. Jesus Christ, in his final prayer, prayed we would walk in “oneness” with Him just like He walked the earth in oneness with the Father. We will learn today where God resides.

Don't worry, be happy! | Psalms 126
“In every life we have some trouble…when you worry you make it double. Cause when you worry your face will frown, and that will bring everybody down. Don’t worry, it will soon pass, whatever it is.” Don’t worry, be happy”…this song was recorded by Bobby McFerrin in 1988, and on Sept 24 that year, the song became the first “a cappella” song to reach #1 on the Billboard Top 100 chart..The Christian faith uniquely combines laughter and tears, joy and solemnity. ‘We laughed, we sang... God was wonderful to us; we are one happy people’. When God’s Spirit gives us joy, then we are happy people. Christians should be joyful; happiness should characterize our everyday lives. How will I use the Word of God? | Phi 4:19
Can you list the ways you use the Word of God? First of all, why do we need the Word of God? The word need holds many different meanings. To say, “I need my coffee in the morning, or I won’t be able to function” is a popular thing to say, but not really true. To say, “I need oxygen to breathe, or my heart will stop beating” is a factually true statement. The Word of God is living and active in our lives. God's Word gives life to those things which are otherwise considered spiritually dead. The Holy Spirit changes us through the Word of God and gives us true life. Today, I will share with you nine take-a-ways of how you can use the word of God and not just read about it. This is about putting the Word into action.

Calm, cool, and collect | Matthew 21:12-13
We often wonder if our anger is sinful or not. In last weeks study we talked about anger not being sin. Our motive is important and how we manage our anger. In the anger of Jesus, he had the proper motivation. In other words, He was angry for the right reasons. Jesus’ anger did not arise from petty arguments or personal slights against Him. There was no selfishness involved. His anger had the proper focus, supplement, duration, result, and control. Having a calm spirit is essential two successful living. Proverbs 17:27 says, “He who has knowledge spares his words, And a man of understanding is of a calm spirit” (NKJV). By exercising self-control when speaking and not allowing oneself to be dominated by heightened emotions, a calm spirit diffuses anger and ill feelings. In today's podcast, we will learn much more about a cool spirit that brings calmness.

Healing Warriors--do it anyway
What are the biggest problems facing veterans returning home from conflict?
The majority readjust to life off the battlefield with few difficulties. But a significant number—44% who’ve served in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to one survey—say they’ve had problems readjusting after their return. What about problems apart from health-related issues?
In addition to health problems, some returning service members have other difficulties—such as economic or social challenges—readjusting to civilian life. The depth and breadth of challenges faced by veterans varies and are the result of a complex interaction of many factors. Previous wars have demonstrated that veterans’ needs— peak several decades after their war service. Today we are talking about healing our warriors, our heroes.

What does the bible say about anger? | Mark 3:3-6
Here is a phrase I like to keep in mind: Anger is just one letter short of Danger. Handling anger is an important life skill. Christian counselors report that 50 percent of people who come in for counseling have problems dealing with anger. Anger can shatter communication and tear apart relationships, and it ruins both the joy and health of many. Everyone struggles, to varying degrees, with anger. Thankfully, God’s Word contains principles regarding how to handle anger in a godly manner, and how to overcome sinful anger. we can change our feelings toward another by changing HOW WE CHOOSE TO ACT toward that person; it becomes a choice. What will you choose to do?

Where is our true north? | John 16:13
We can all certainly identify with the need for guidance. In fact, Jesus addressed this very need during His Upper Room Discourse. He said that after His departure the Holy Spirit would play a crucial role in the lives of believers. As part of that role, Jesus promised, “When He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth”. The difference between magnetic north and true north is a matter of several hundred miles—but it changes, due to the fact that the magnetic north pole drifts several miles a year. Moral standards that align with His nature will keep us on the correct course, just as a compass that aligns with true north keeps us moving in the right direction.Just as the readings of a compass may be corrupted due to nearby objects, so we are prone to be swayed by various attractions in the world. We must constantly calibrate ourselves to the example of our Risen Savior. Our spiritual needles must point to objective truth and not turn after subjective opinions, vacillating values, or erratic rules.

Tongue lashings | James 3:1-2
Have you ever caught yourself giving someone a tongue lashing, or have you been on the receiving end of a yeller? James has some poignant suggestions for us today. We see this every day amongst strangers, friends, siblings, and, worst of all, among husbands and wives, the very people who, next to their love for the Lord Jesus, should have the most love for each other. What can we do to tame the tongue? If God has declared that “no one” can tame the tongue, how can we even begin to do so? While many people have quit smoking or drinking by the power of the human will, the problem of the heart and tongue cannot be solved by human will power. In today's podcast, we will have some very candid options and examples.

In our passage today, there is so much to unpack with this message. Faith without works or action is even a bigger message. However, the one thing is for sure that we will focus on today is sharing, giving, a good deed, benevolence and helping others. This isn’t about sharing what others have, but sharing what I have. Do I have plenty? If so, then shouldn’t I share what I have. It’s easy for me to be a busy-body about what others don’t give of themselves, but have I looked at myself lately? Why do I find it difficult to give of myself or of my things? Am I being stingy?, hoarding, selfish, judgmental, greedy, or am I worried that I may not have enough for myself? Our genuine faith should bleed with compassion. In this podcast, I feel like I am preaching to myself.

Fearless love | Isa 41:13
Fear in and of itself is not sin. Fear is a normal response to threat. Like pain, it is a gift of God intended to keep us safe. Feeling guilty for feeling fear in a situation of threat is like feeling guilty for feeling hungry when you haven't eaten. It's something your body does, not your will. The challenge is to respond appropriately. We will understand today how to take a stand in the love of Jesus, which casts out all fears. I encourage you to listen to the song first before listening to this podcast. The song by Josh Baldwin is called, "Stand In Your Love". Fear is not the opposite of faith. Unbelief is in fact the opposite of faith. The bible talks about several kinds of fear as you will hear today. But the fear of God is the "reverence" of God...there is a big difference.

A sigh of relief | Mark 7:31-37
Today's study is about the healing of a deaf man with a speech impediment. How does Jesus manage the situation and what does he want from us? While touching the man’s tongue, Jesus looks up, and he sighs, saying “be opened!” Jesus cares enough about us to die. He wants to hear our voice. Jesus wants to have that conversation. I think Jesus sighs, when we don’t turn to Him. And I think Jesus sighs, when we call out to him…he feels for us….and He has mercy on us… Sighing is very Godly. Do we recognize Jesus? | Mark 6:53-56
It’s important that we recognize who our source of power comes from, not only for us to know, but also how to serve Him and how to serve others. As a police officer, if I don’t recognize the authority that I have, how can I protect the people? I do this in “the name of the law”. In England, the Bobby’s used to enforce the law in the “name of the Queen”. We as Christians do things “in the name of Jesus”. Regardless, we all should know where our source of power or authority comes from. It's important that we learn to help others, and bring others to the word. In this podcast we learn about what "they" did for the people who were sick--carrying them to meet Jesus.

Naturally, Jehoshaphat was terrified by the news. The difference between spiritual and carnal living 2Tim 3:16-17
We are taught that living spiritually will draw you away from desiring sinful activity. Evidently, the two war with each other; spiritual and fleshly. Certainly, we know what many of the obvious fleshly desires are... However, being spiritual entails that, from deep within, we have love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. What is important about our lifestyle change is to become increasingly spiritual and decreasingly carnal, which is called sanctification. Once we are relinquished from our sinful flesh, carnality outbreaks will be the exception, not the rule. Travis Thompson told me about physical fitness: “This isn’t a hobby, it is a lifestyle.” Growing in Christ isn’t intended to be the popular thing to do for the day, but it is a new lifestyle that he wants us to live by and grow on a daily basis.

It’s not that Paul thought Timothy’s faith was weak or dying out, but that he wanted Timothy to experience the fullness of God’s gift. The gifts we receive from the Lord through the filling of the Holy Spirit are not given to us fully developed but need to be strengthened and matured through use. God wants us to do His good works through the gift(s) He gave us. A man does not become a Christian by doing these good works, but rather he does these good works because he is a Christian.

If you ever had trouble completing a big project such as painting a house, writing a novel, or earning a diploma, the thought of the Heavenly Father beginning a good work in you and completing it is an awesome one. Let’s Think about what good work He is doing in us! What God began, let us continue. God can get us through this if we learn to love like He loved us. It’s hard to love someone when you’re judging them. And it is hard to judge someone if you love them; that’s your barometer.

God's insight for living | Psalms 19:7
There is a difference between the two books of God (God’s volume of self-revelations…verse 7 introduces us to Volume Two of God’s revelation—“the law of the Lord.” Both volumes glorify God and inspire the worship of thoughtful persons. His Word reveals Him as the One who enters into covenant relationship with His people. God’s work reveal His knowledge and power but His Word reveals His love and grace. Scientific truth may stimulate our intellect but spiritual truth convicts our heart and conscience! Public hate as we are seeing today, is not the way of God. Jesus set the example by even washing Judas’ feet with the other disciples, knowing that Judas was his enemy…that’s how you love your enemy. In my experience, it's easier to "Agape" someone you dislike (or who dislikes you) when you pray for them. Because when you pray for them, God often opens your heart to seeing people the way that God sees them, rather than the way you see them. Your friends will not point out your faults, but your enemies will. Your enemies will help you see what needs to be changed in your life while your friends will overlook your faults.

The Cause, not because… Psalms 74:18-23
We are discussing the "cause" that God wants us to pursue. I'll break it down to the Passion, Pursuit, and Purpose of God's cause. Ultimately, nothing can stop God’s cause. Herod, Bar-Jesus both tried but failed miserably. But here are a couple of people that were called to the "cause"; "...the Holy Spirit said, “Appoint Barnabas and Saul for the special work to which I have called them.” We are all called to carry out the work of God and to do it in the image of Jesus. Whatever we do for God must come from a place of overflowing love, worship, and surrender. Rather than making decisions to please ourselves, we make decisions that will please the Lord.

Any cooking oil for sale? | 2Kings 4:1-7
In this podcast, Elisha helps a widow that is concerned about her sons being taken into slavery because of their debt, which was allowed under the laws of Moses. The widow only has a flask of oil left, which doesn't have any value. Through God's direction, Elisha has the women borrow jars from everyone, and tells her to fill them up with her flask...this was an endless flow until all of the jars were filled. God says that our cup will over flow when we love Him. Are we listening and paying attention to God's direction in life. If you want your cup to overflow, we must follow directions and listen to the Spirit.

Fishing lessons by Jesus | John 21:4-14
Jesus takes the time to teach the disciples how to fish in this episode. When Jesus called out to them and asked, have caught any fish? They replied, “No”. This was in His way or style of making them tell their case. Jesus wanted to better prepare them for what was coming… all Jesus has ever asked us to do is for us to bring the bread and fish. Jesus didn’t ask us to feed the 5,000. In this case, he even provided the fish and bread, and prepared it, ready to consume. Hasn’t the word of God been prepared for us, ready to consume?

Boulder King Soopers Shooting--Elevations Credit Union steps-up
Everyone knows what a horrific tragedy occurred at the King Soopers in Boulder where a lone gunman killed 10 people. One of those killed was a Boulder Police Officer who entered the store in an attempt to take the gunman down. This podcast is about Elevations Credit Union (ECU) who stepped-up to the plate within 24 hours to arrange a fundraiser for the victims and their families. It's such a great demonstration of a community of people that pitched in with donating over $700,000 to support those who suffered a loss. Money doesn't replace a life, but we know it can help get them through an unexpected crisis in their lives. Thank you to the citizens that donated $509,224, and the Elevations Foundation along with Elevations Credit Union match of $200,000. ECU, put the hearts of people first.

The humanity & Sacrifice of Christ Luke 9:51-54
There is an unimaginable price Jesus paid for us. The suffering, stress, and weeping he went through. Then the physical abuse that lead to the cross. You’re going to realize that Jesus was committed and steadfast in completing the mission that God wanted him to do, regardless of the pain and suffering. Charles Spurgeon urged, “Keep your eye simply on Him.” When we do, we don’t see obstacles. We see God, the One who makes our way clear. Remember, our job isn’t to feed the 5,000. Our job is to provide the loaves and fish.

God is giving his people a choice to follow his direction in life or end up being defeated. Here, Isaiah speaks the words of God and says, "come now, let us reason together." If we will listen to the voice of reason (common sense), we will make the obvious choice. God gives us good reason to follow him, to be obedient and listen to his directions in life. No matter where you go, there you are. And no matter where you go, there He is too. You cannot avoid God. Let's be blessed instead of being stressed.

My dad taught me how to "hod-carry" and eventually learning how to become a bricklayer. The school of hard-knocks is a good teaching skill that permanently impresses you to never forget. Family values and character are molded by not only learning to do a good job, but a better job, and sometimes that's not good enough.

What's a false prophet? Matthew 7:15-20
Jesus paints a clear picture of what a false prophet is like. His colorful analogy of fruits, such as grapes and other fruit trees clearly illustrates what is good and what is bad with prophets. I like His two prong test...the person prophesying must match the Word, and it must become true. Well, that's easy enough to identify. Nevertheless, many people are hoodwinked by fakes.

This is an interesting study about Jesus stating that the gate is hard to enter and it is narrow...hard to travel? Why? What must we do? A careful analysis of cross-referenced scriptures is enlightening and revealing of what must be done, and Jesus doesn't hesitate to "give us the bottom line" so we are not confused.

Jesus gave us a commandment to love one another. He also told us to do unto others as we would like done unto us. This is about having mercy or putting yourself in someone else's shoes. We can obey all of the other commandments, but if we don't have love, we don't have anything to compel us to be obedient.

I always paid my way through life, and I didn't like debt of any sort. JFK remembered
I remember the day JFK was shot to death like it happened yesterday. While in my sixth grade class, our teacher at Putnam Elementary school, Bob Asmus, walked into our classroom with the most somber, shocked, and emotional expression I’ve ever seen. It seemed like the whole world was watching the news anchorman, Walter Cronkite, breaking the news as it was coming in rapidly as to what happened. Oswald shot and killed Dallas police officer J. D. Tippit on a local street. Two days later, Oswald was fatally shot by local nightclub owner Jack Ruby. I remembered the great speech that JFK gave on how we would land on the moon by the end of the decade. He was right... When we think of "The Lord's Prayer", we are left with the thought that Jesus was asking us to use these exact words, when in fact, He left us with a model prayer to use so we don't leave anything out that is very important to the Father. We are to give glory to Him, and do His will like it is in heaven. Also, to forgive others so we can be blessed, and to realize we cannot handle the temptations on earth by ourselves. We must acknowledge that He alone will fight our battles for us and show us a way out. There is much more to learn in this study today.
