Hagazussa

Shadows. Horn. Blood. Fire. Albrun. In the 15th century in the desolate Alps mountains lives a woman deemed a witch by the local townsfolk. Bound to a life not chosen, she births a daughter, Albrun, who grows up with the confusing accusations and religious persecutions of the era. With little understanding to the underlying illness her mother's body is ridden with, Albrun is soon left to rely on the mountainside as her mother did before her, facing similar obstacles when many years later, she conceives a daughter of her own. Pyewacket

Hear with my ears and speak with my tongue, I invite you to come. Pyewacket. Grief-ridden teen Leah is trying to find her place after a serious tragedy turned her life upside down. She relies on her circle of friends who all partake in the occult and black magick as a way of coping with their daily tensions. When the kettle in her home life boils over, she foolishly casts a spell calling upon the energy of Pyewacket to fulfill her sinister wish to end her problems indefinitely. Unbeknownst to Leah, someone is listening and is willing to carry out even her most horrible of desires. Pyewacket. Another treasure filmed right here in Ontario, Canadian director Adam Macdonald selected his cast perfectly with Nicole Munez starring as daughter Leah Reyes and our familiar friend 'Mrs. Reyes' from The Walking Dead, Laurie Holden (TWD: Andrea.) Together they create the perfect atmosphere of a dysfunctional family while engaging in a realistic palette of emotions, never letting up the heavy tone for long. Jen and I are certain with the accuracy of the ritual in the film that Adam Macdonald must be a witch. What do you think? Pyewacket. Be careful what you wish for. Someone might be listening. Once inhabited by the Crain Family, a building paranormal phenomena forces them to flee Hill House, dividing their potential for a simple happily ever after. 26 years later Hill House beckons the Crain Family back, ready to reveal it's true self. Loosely based on the 1959 novel The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson, Mike Flanagan directed the television series parading a strong cast of two age groups that created a chilling and relatable ghost story. In anticipation of the follow-up season, The Haunting of Bly Manor - to be released October 9th, 2020 - we really wanted to get this episode out to you before it launched. Stir Of Echoes

"Can I ask you a question? Does it hurt to be dead?" A washed-up rockstar living a mundane life, Tom, begins suffering visions after being hypnotized at a house party. The visions soon lead to a string of unanswered questions surrounding the apparition that has befriended his son, which has now begun driving a wedge further into their deteriorating marriage when Tom claims to have seen the apparition himself. Madness has planted itself in Tom's brain, and discovering the truth is the only resolution to free him and his family of their suffering. Kevin Bacon in a 90s horror film is pretty much as great as it gets. Do you remember back when we discussed You Should Have Left (2020) and Kaytlynn promised a better Bacon film? This is it. With a ghostly presence and unsolved mystery unravelling before us, we get the best of haunting 90s horror in Stir of Echoes (1999) written and directed by David Koepp. This is a film adaptation of the 1958 novel of the same title by Richard Matheson, which is really adding to the layers of what happened and why in this film. Have you enjoyed this movie already or will this be your first time watching? Yay/nay on the K-Bacon scale? Let us know and listen in for our stab ratings this week! Grave Encounters

"Good evening and welcome to another episode of Grave Encounters. I'm your host Lance Preston as always and tonight, I am very excited to take you inside of one of the most terrifying locations I've ever seen. Behind me, sits the Collingwood Psychiatric Hospital." Remember when paranormal investigation shows were all the rage? Grave Encounters takes you down the many forked roads of "what if" when a crew of paranormal investigators gear up for an overnight lockdown inside of a supposedly haunted asylum. The stories shared from some of the locals, while at times chilling, aren't enough to deter this headstrong leader, Lance Preston or any of his crew mates. Working on Episode 6 of their show, the members of the group are certain there will be nothing to report here - like all of their previous episodes - so they prepare all the tricks and scares to make a worthy episode and bank on the groundskeeper letting out at the crack of dawn. The Lighthouse

“It's bad luck to leave a toast unfinished, lad.” A young nomad accepts a demanding four week contract working in solitary with an intolerable Lighthouse Keeper. Immediately the desolation and psychological anguish begin to chip away at Ephraim Winslow (Robert Pattinson) as his demanding superior Thomas Wake (Willem Dafoe) seemingly creates obstacles to further complicate a hard day’s work. Their inability to maintain a consistent relationship only adds to the unanswered questions Winslow has about Wake’s specific practices and why only he is allowed to tend to the light. Director Robert Eggers (also the writer & director of The VVitch) delivers another intricate tale of insanity amidst isolation and shares with us a compelling depth of background research that went into carefully structuring this film as Robert Eggers and his brother Max Eggers, wrote the script. There may be an endless number of times you could watch this film and always notice something new. You Should Have Left

"People have always stayed in that house. The right ones usually find the place." Starring Kevin Bacon and Amanda Seyfried, YOU SHOULD HAVE LEFT (2020) from director David Koepp is a revised version of the same-titled novel by Daniel Kehlmann, who also cowrote the screenplay for the film. When wealthy and retired Theo (Bacon) and his up-and-coming actress wife Susanna (Seyfried) decide they need a break from their daily routines and distractions, they rent a beautiful property in the countryside of Wales, bringing along their young daughter Ella (Avery Tiiu Essex) for a picture-perfect family getaway. With hopes of repairing long-endured damage to their relationship, the billowing hillsides and fresh country air can't compete with the wedge that is firmly present between their marriage. Theo, desperate for connection and communication that is left unrequited finds himself regularly meditating while simultaneously losing hours of time in this not-so-simple getaway home. What will this deeply twisted tale reveal within with the walls of the Stetler property? Find out our thoughts in this week's episode!! American Psycho

Something Horrible is happening inside of me and I don’t know why. This week’s all-American delight is starring everyone’s favourite Wall Street Psychopath, Patrick Bateman. Directed by Mary Harron and released in 2000, American Psycho is based on the 1991 novel by Bret Easton Ellis that walks the fine line between delusion and reality with a lot of blood in between. Patrick is fixated on blending in with his surroundings and insists on appearing superior in every way to everyone he meets. Not reaching the top of his constantly demanding social political ladder leads him to commit numerous homicides to make up for his inability to cope with the idea that he could appear average amidst his coworkers. www.thishorribleplace.com @thishorribleplace

Session 9

We promised an episode that was absolutely MENTAL and that is why our choice for episode 35 had to be Session 9, the 2001 release from director Brad Anderson! In this Horrible tale, a crew of asbestos removers accept an impossible job on a short deadline to try and earn a much-needed bonus at the end of their job. The location: None other than an abandoned and decaying insane asylum.* The set is real with no medical props provided. What begins as a straight-forward job, foreman Gordon “Gordy” Fleming (Peter Mullan) is overworked and stressed as he loses a grip on his home life and it begins to reflect in his sense of reality with every work day that passes. His right hand, Phil (David Caruso) begins to notice something is afoot but can’t quite see the depth of the situation at hand. *Session 9 was filmed in a real, abandoned insane asylum in 2001. The Danvers State Insane Asylum stood abandoned for many years and was able to serve as the set for this incredible film. It was mostly demolished in 2006 to put up apartments to which we say, nay. www.thishorribleplace.com @thishorribleplace
