True Crime Part 2: The Finale and Aftermath- The Curious Case Of Natalia Grace

Today Lo is diving into part 2 of "The Curious Case Of Natalia Grace" with fellow true crime junkie - actress, singer, songwriter Hayley Orrantia. If you don't have 12 hours to devote to watching 2 seasons of the hit docuseries...no worries boo- We did it for you! One of the most bizarre cases in true crime continues with the release of a new documentary series on HBO MAX. The legal case of Natalia Grace became a national sensation around 2014 when it was reported that a Ukrainian orphan adopted into an Indiana family was accused of actually being an adult. Not only that, but her adoptive parents alleged that she was violent and mentally ill, had admitted to wanting to kill the entire family and was scamming them by pretending to be much younger than her actual age. Natalia, who has a rare form of dwarfism, and the Barnetts remained in the spotlight during ongoing legal battles after the parents had Natalia's age legally changed and left her in a rented apartment while the rest of the family moved out of the country. Since then, the case has become well-known in pop culture, becoming the highest rated rated docuseries on HBO MAX and often being compared to the horror movie "Orphan." Hayley and Lo recappart 2 of the hit docuseries and share their thoughts on the twists and turns of this bizarre story that has captivated the nation. Abercrombie and Millennials: Undressed

You can smell this episode from a mile away. The pungent aroma of FIERCE cologne is in the air. It's time to put on your puka shells and dive into the early 2000's. Lo is joined in LA by two of his closest friends, Jacob and Lexi, to share their take on the latest Netflix documentary "White Hot: The Rise and Fall of Abercrombie and Fitch" From the homoerotic ad campaigns to the shirtless clean shaven jocks greeting you at the front of their stores, this was a brand that personified the notion that sex really does sell. Abercrombie CEO Mike Jeffries and photographer Bruce Weber were at the helm of exclusionary marketing tactics, predatory behavior and toxic work culture that ultimately led to the brands demise. The billion dollar Abercrombie empire was shrouded in discrimination, racism while unapologetically promoting unrealistic beauty standards. The quintessential all American brand was led by a mad genius who's obsession with vanity, youth and perfectionism shaped our culture and left a lasting impact on society today.   The three friends reflect on growing up during the era of overpriced polo shirts, low rise jeans and extreme plastic surgery television makeovers. This episode is the perfect cocktail of nostalgia with a splash of corruption. Josh Peck Tells All: Addiction, Hollywood, and Millennial Memoirs

From "Drake and Josh" to “How I Met Your Father," actor Josh Peck has been putting smiles on the faces of millions of people for over a decade, but there is another side to fame and success that isn’t so glamourous. Josh is on the podcast to chat with Lo about everything from body dysmorphia to cocaine addiction to becoming a father and husband. While Josh was sure to put a smile on your face as a young actor, there was plenty going on behind the scenes of our TV screens. That’s because even though Josh seemed to laugh it all off, he was struggling with body image, addiction, and growing up with an absent father. While it hasn’t been an easy journey, he’s ready to take what he’s learned and share it with the Lo Lifers. He’s opening up to Lo about how losing weight affected his career and public opinion, what happened when he decided he was ready to meet his dad for the first time, and how he’s now navigating his own journey as a father. It’s Never Too Late To Start Over: A Discussion With Lori Gottlieb, Psychotherapist and Best Selling Author (Part 2)

Lori is back for round two with Lo as the two discuss her journey to becoming a psychotherapist. She left a successful career and made the decision to go to medical school. She followed her passion and started a new chapter later in life. Even though Lori is celebrated as an expert when it comes to therapy, relationships, and understanding ourselves, she says her greatest credential is that she too is a card-carrying member of the human race. She’s opening up about why her upbringing of “let’s pretend we’re happy” ultimately drew her to the field of therapy, and detailing how she believes we can make changes to allow the next generation to better talk about our thoughts, feelings, and beliefs – even when they may drastically differ from those of our family.  In today’s episode, Lori is also sharing how we can go about finding a therapist that is right for us; just because we had one poor experience doesn’t mean we’re not built for therapy. It turns out therapy isn’t too different from dating - the number one predictor of success in a therapeutic relationship is our relationship to our therapist, so sometimes it can help to date around. Lori and Lo also discuss our relationship to the person we talk to the most in life: ourselves. Lo is all too familiar that sometimes we treat ourselves very differently than we’d treat a loved one or even a stranger, and the two explore how we can change these habits. And of course, Lori is answering Lo’s round of rapid-fire questions, which wraps with some words to live by that will take you into the weekend in a place of self-compassion.   Please be sure to rate, follow, review, and send to a friend so we can keep this sh!t show on the road, kings and kweens! Jealousy, Relationship Baggage, and Rewriting Your Story with Psychotherapist & Author Lori Gottlieb (Part 1)

Today’s guest might have one of the world’s longest waiting lists, but Lo is skipping the line and getting some on-the-mic therapy for both himself and his beloved Lo Lifers! Lori Gottlieb is an incredible psychotherapist, New York Times bestselling author, TED speaker, and co-host of the extremely popular podcast Dear Therapists. When it comes to rewriting our stories and shifting our narratives, Lori is the go-to expert to help her clients, listeners, and readers gain the mindset shift they often desperately need. In this episode, Lo and Lori are opening up and giving advice on everything from navigating differences within our families to leaning into the envy that comes with comparison culture to finding the therapist that is right for you.  Even though she might seem like she’s been doing this forever, Lori wasn’t always in the therapy field. She actually started her career in entertainment and only shifted to therapy once she realized that real-life stories interested her far more than those on our TV screens. Since then, Lori has been helping clients, readers, and listeners rewrite the faulty narratives we so often tell ourselves when it comes to our relationships, our careers, and our overall lives. How do we not take our baggage into new relationships? How can we speak to our families about hot-button issues? What do we do with our anxious and depressed feelings? Lo is asking Lori questions that the Lo Lifers might not have even known they needed answers to. This extremely informative and eye-opening episode will have you getting excited for your next, or maybe even your first, therapy session.  Please be sure to rate, follow, review, and send to a friend so we can keep this sh!t show on the road, kings and kweens! Building a Multimillion Dollar Empire: The Founder of DryBar Alli Webb

Alli Webb is an incredible entrepreneur who is best known as the co-founder of Drybar and currently serves as the president of Canopy. With over 160 Drybar locations nationwide, Alli is proof that the American dream is alive and well. If you are a business owner or have ever thought of starting a small business, then this is a must-listen. As a fellow entrepreneur and small business owner, Lo takes full advantage of his candid conversation with Alli as they discuss everything from learning lessons for entrepreneurs to balancing motherhood and a career. Alli is an open book who holds nothing back describing how she went from a self-proclaimed underachiever and underdog in Florida to running a multimillion-dollar company on the West Coast while raising two little kids at the time; to say she had her hands full is an understatement.  As much as it takes a village to raise a family, it takes all hands on deck to start a thriving business, and Alli describes how she went from giving blowouts and doing hair on the side to founding a seriously innovative company. Was she scared to fail? What mistakes did she make along the way? How long did it take until she started to make an actual profit? These are just a few of the questions Lo is asking Alli on today’s inspiring and informative episode of The Lo Life. If you’re interested in taking your small business to the next level or thinking about becoming an entrepreneur yourself, this episode will blow your mind (pun intended).  Please be sure to rate, follow, review, and send to a friend so we can keep this sh!t show on the road, kings and kweens! Candace has written over 10 novels with millions of readers enjoying her stories for the last 20 years. From Lipstick Jungle to creating Sex and the City, Candace has paved the way for women’s voices to be heard and their stories to be told. She now plays the role of matchmaker as she helps her friends date by setting them up on Match. I mean, who better than Candace to help you find your next match? Candace is giving Lo advice on navigating the lows of your career, dealing with rejection, and finding the perfect first date attire. And, of course, she's answering Lo’s famous round of rapid-fire questions.  It’s not easy to date during a pandemic, and Candace is sharing why online dating is the new way to go and what trends she’s seeing on the apps, including one that might not quite be catfishing but definitely bends the truth. While she’s currently taking a break from the dating scene, she loves to help others find their person, and explains why she decided to team up with Match after her one-woman Off Broadway show. Lo also opens up about his current thoughts and feelings on the dating world, including why nowadays he’s getting all riled up just going to Chili’s... how things have changed. Unpopular Opinions: Taylor Swift, Anal Adventures, and Relationship Advice

BFF Janelle Hansen is back for round two, this time hopping on the mic with Lo to answer Lo Lifer questions and to dish some hot takes on listener unpopular opinions (and sharing some of their own!). First up, the two react to some of the most controversial Lo Lifer takes, leading to goodhearted debates when it comes to Taylor Swift, social media trends, and arguably the most popular US city. Then, it’s time to hop into listener questions, and absolutely nothing is off-limits in this episode as Janelle and Lo are giving advice on everything from anal adventures to naked households to dating dealbreakers.   The Lo Lifers are getting real vulnerable in their podcast submissions, so it’s only fair that Lo and Janelle do the same, and trust us when we say they go there. Lo shares how he discovered his wiener twin and how he earned his “street” nickname, and Janelle opens up about why she’s down to go number two on date number one. This advice can NOT be found anywhere else outside of The Lo Life. It’s time to get real, raw, and honest on this one.  Plus, we get an original Lo cocktail recipe... let us know if you try this one out, Lo Lifers!  Please be sure to rate, follow, review, and send to a friend so we can keep this sh!t show on the road, kings and kweens! Sex and the City, Sociopaths, and The Human Centipede

Lo’s BFF, the Charlotte to his Samantha, Janelle Hansen is back for a two-part episode with the Lo Lifers! But first, we’re getting a promising mental health update from Lo and a quick insight into his HGTV-level apartment facelift – more on that in an upcoming episode. Janelle also catches us up on what’s going on in her apartment these days, and quick disclaimer that this pod is not actually sponsored by Lettuce Grow (but maybe someday we will be). Janelle and Lo are catching up and talking about all the content they’ve been binging recently, including the Sex and the City reboot, And Just Like That, which has got them wondering if politically-correct reboots are the way to go or if their fave outdated binges should stay in the past.   Janelle was the last person on planet Earth to watch Sex and the City, and she’s giving her thoughts and feels on both the classic show and the new reboot. Lo and Janelle reveal which characters they most relate to, both now and in the past, and describe why a reboot of one of their go-to shows, The Office, may be better left offscreen. One thing that we can say is positive about And Just Like That: finally a show is focusing on what happens to women after your 20s and 30s because, apparently, life still goes on. It’s never too late to start over. They also ask a very important question that will be on your mind until next week’s episode, even if you want it erased from your memory entirely: would you take a role in The Human Centipede? All this and more! Lo has found his reincarnation mammal match in functional medicine doctor, Dr. Will Cole, who is joining him on the mic in this episode to talk all about how we can become our healthiest, happiest selves!  Dr. Will Cole believes that we function best when we honor ourselves, our bodies, and most importantly, are informed when it comes to what we put in our bodies. He’s teaching the Lo Lifers what functional medicine truly means, how the gut is our second brain, and why physical and mental health simply cannot be separated. Dr. Cole is all about informed consent, getting to the root of your health problems, and wants all of his patients and anyone out there to be in the know when it comes to what we choose to spend our money on and put in our bodies. Lo has been open with the Lo Lifers about his journey with mental health from his background with depression and loss to his experience with antidepressants, and Dr. Will Cole is here to explain how our bodies and mind are deeply interconnected and what we can do to make sure this machine is running smoothly. It’s a soLo mission today on The Lo Life as Lo sits down on the mic to share an update on his life, reveal a newly reintroduced celebrity crush, and answer all the Lo Lifer questions related to fashion. First and foremost, we need to update our beloved listeners: Lo is NOT in a mental institution or rehab, he just had to take a second away from social media to focus on his state of mind and his fam. Tamales, T!ts, and Traditions: It’s The Holidays with The Queen and Lo

This is a very special holiday edition the Lo Lifer’s won’t want to miss! Lo is back at the kitchen table to talk with his mama, aka The Queen. Together, they muse over all things Christmas, including traditions that have been in their family for decades. As all the Lo Lifers know, Lo loves Christmas, and every year he celebrates with family traditions that include a Christmas Tree and home decorated in monochromatic decor, hiding the pickle, and 85 pounds of tamales. This year is no different as their family gets ready to pay homage to the late Dukie for a chocolate-brown Christmas. Lo and The Queen talk about the power of sentimental gifts over material ones. They share budget-friendly gift tips that are based on your love language. The Queen shares her sentimental reasons why the tamale recipe is so much more than a recipe. She explains why it can’t simply be put down on a piece of paper and Lo opens up about how he has stepped in to learn the tradition that has lasted decades so he can carry the torch and pass it on for generations to come. This episode is full of laughter, tears, and heartfelt moments that remind us that even though Christmas and the holiday season may be a sad time for some, there is nothing more important than spreading love to those around you. Human Design with DayLuna: The Deeper You Go, The Higher You Rise

The queens behind DayLuna Human Design have pulled up to the manifestation station to explain what human design is all about and how understanding your energy type can enhance your life. Lo discovers he is an uncommon energy type in the world of Human Design; a rare unicorn who is in the right business according to his bodygraph and birth chart.  The conversation begins with the fascinating origins of Human Design back in 1987 when Alan Robert Krakower, aka “Roo Roo,” embarked on an eight day meditation alone in the desert. DayLuna’s founders Shayna and Dana have built a new life utilizing that information and are sharing it on the episode today. Ghost Encounters, Demons, and Dildos with Psychic Medium Chris Medina

With Halloween and Dia De Los Muertos quickly approaching, what better way to celebrate this haunted season than with an episode about the metaphysical and spiritual world. He has had some wild ghost encounters throughout his life and shares a recent ghost story with Lo. The two also discuss death, reincarnation, and exorcising demons. Summer BBQs, Britney Spears, and The American Dream

Lo is back with actor, writer, activist, and Lo Lifer favorite, Elliot Knight.  On today’s episode, the duo kicks off the 4th of July weekend festivities together. They take a hard look at what freedom really means and how the perception of success can impact even the most iconic humans... #FreeBritney. The chemistry is unmatched between Elliot and Lo as they discuss the best America has to offer (and per usual the hilarious duo doesn't always agree on things).  From the best summer BBQ foods to their official “Lo Lifer” rate & review system on the latest documentary about American treasure, Ms.Tina Turner, they banter and share their interesting perspectives. Lo opens up about why he had a meltdown at a Tina Turner concert and the two chat about comparative culture when it comes to social media. Elliot shares some UK terminology with us and Lo is surprised to learn that although they may use the same words in the same language, there are completely different meanings. This thoughtful episode will make you laugh, learn something new, and leave you with a smile going into the 4th Of July weekend. In the words of Tina, "It’s simply the best." Daddy Issues

On today’s very special episode, we are raising our glasses to all the dads and father figures out there. Lo’s dad, his one and only Mufasa, is finally pulling up a seat, cracking an ice-cold triple IPA, and diving into his upbringing and how that affected his journey into fatherhood. As one of seventeen children, Lo’s dad valued his time with his own father immensely and carried some of their traditions over to his relationship with Lo. This explains Lo’s diverse and sometimes questionable taste in music, his dark sense of humor, and his openness to having difficult conversations.  The Lo Lifers get a behind-the-scenes look into Lo’s childhood and learn what it was like to raise such a free-spirited, outspoken son. The two dive into life, the afterlife, marriage, politics, movies, and everything in between. Although the two differ greatly, they share a bond like no other and have built a solid foundation that celebrates their similarities and their differences. This heartfelt, light-hearted, loving conversation is filled with little Lo stories that will leave you with a smile and some advice only a father can give.   Please be sure to rate, follow, review, and send to a friend (and maybe even an enemy) so we can keep this show on the road, kings and kweens! “That’s So Gay”

Lo is joined by actor, writer, and activist Elliot Knight for a special episode to celebrate Pride Month 2021. The Lo Lifers are about to embark on a magical (metaphorical) gay cruise as the duo shares perspectives on everything from Madonna’s biggest bangers and cultural impact on the world to the Lady Gaga lactation-themed dress of Elliot’s dreams.  The British import holds his own with Lo during this “Coming to America” journey. You’ll crack up as the two debate which country is better. They hilariously banter and trade stories comparing childhood snacks, cuisine, music, and culture.  As usual, nothing is off-limits as the journey ventures deep into taboo waters. A question is posed to the Lo Lifers: Can you separate the Art from the Artist? Bill Cosby, Michael Jackson, R. Kelly, and Woody Allen come to mind as Lo and Elliot navigate around these polarizing figures with ease. Overall, this magical gay voyage will inspire you to listen up & stand up to homophobia, transphobia, and hate speech. No matter your orientation, when you exit this cruise, you will feel empowered to live your truth because what’s “so gay” is really not.  *Lo Lifer approved ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ trans community doc for you to enjoy! Healing After Losing Your Pet – What Now?

Losing a pet is gut wrenching and can be as devastating as losing a family member. In this special episode, Lo keeps it raw and real as he tackles a full range of emotions after the sudden loss of his cherished pug Dukie last week. Embracing pain while infusing sarcasm and humor, Lo invites the Lo Lifers to sit alongside him through a private grief counseling session as he grapples to make sense of it all. Joining him today is Dr. Katie Lawlor, a clinical psychologist who specializes in grief and loss with an emphasis on pets.  Listen in as she gently navigates the session to ease Lo’s pain while offering coping mechanisms, tips, and excellent resources to help those grieving (or those helping someone grieve) mend their broken heart. Whether you have lost a pet recently or are the proud owner of a senior animal, this conversation is for you and provides awareness and comfort in the fact you are not alone. It is a beautiful episode dedicated to Dukie, but as all things Lo, the episode takes detours with humor, stories, and a special throwback Off The Vine confession with Kaitlyn Bristowe. The Lo Down: Disco Isn’t Dead, Full Frontal Confessions, and Mexican Martha Stewart Moments

This week, you’re getting an episode full of uninterrupted one-on-one time with your host Lo as he continues a round of Q&A with the Lo Life Hotline segment! Before he gets into questions from the Lo Lifers, Lo recaps a recent family celebration for the queen herself: his mama! Even though the dinner was a smaller crew this year, in typical Lo fashion, mama’s birthday felt more like the Grammy’s after party than a standard family dinner. There were flowers, there was an incredible dessert (don’t worry, Lo gives the recipe), and a new take on a classic game of Pictionary. Lo shares all of the reasons he loves March in addition to his mama’s birthday and dives into his knowledge on all things astrology, which might not be much but is definitely sexy.   Jumping into The Lo Life Hotline segment, Lo answers questions from listeners including those who are local and those who are all the way in Australia hanging with the kangaroos. Your host shares his favorite family friendly TV and documentary recommendations, including a doc featuring some of his favorite music of decades past and a show that is a bit lighter than his typical serial-killer content. He also shares trends he’s particularly loving at the moment and gives a behind-the-scenes of a recent photoshoot that ended in one of his all-time lowest moments.... and that’s saying a lot. Last but definitely not least, Lo gives advice for aspiring entrepreneurs and shares how we can support our friends and family’s dreams.   Please be sure to rate, subscribe, review, and send to a friend (and maybe even an enemy) so we can keep this show on the road, kings and kweens! Kaitlyn Bristowe: Friendship, Accountability, and the Power of Manifestation

Lo is back with the podcast Queen herself, Kaitlyn Bristowe, to catch up on all that’s happened since she returned to Nashville post Dancing with the Stars. The two best friends talk about getting spicier with age (the bullshit meter has officially shifted), reminisce on their time spent together in LA alongside Ramen, Pinot, and Jason, and get all lubed up with Pinot Grigio in anticipation of a nothing-off-limits Q&A. The Lo Lifers came through with all of the questions for KB who truly is an open book as she dives into her love of songwriting, the difficulty she’s had being away from her family in Canada, and how she’s been doing during her COVID-19 recovery. She’s also divulging her Peloton username for the first time – and trust us when we say it’s pure gold.  Kaitlyn shares the reasons she likely won’t be staying in Nashville long term (and reveals if LA is on the table) and Lo shares a heartbreaking and disappointing experience he had while visiting the city a few years back for the Country Music Awards. Kaitlyn also opens up about her thoughts and feelings on recent Bachelor Nation drama, explaining her views on accountability culture versus cancel culture and detailing how she wants to be kept accountable herself.  There’s also the question everyone is always asking: when is Kaitlyn getting engaged... or is she already!? As always, Lo wraps up the convo with a round of rapid-fire questions, asking Kaitlyn about everything from boy bands to space travel to lowest moments. Lo’s Mama: Life Lessons Learned (Part 2)

It's all about vulnerability on today's episode of (the newly renamed) The Lo Life podcast. On this thought provoking episode, Lo and his mama (the Queen) discuss the importance of self discovery as a mother and child navigated her early parenting style. Lo is surprised when she reveals regrets she's had as a parent.   The convo is fused with Lo’s usual sarcasm, insight, and unique perspective on finding your voice. Lo opens up about getting bullied in his childhood and the Queen dishes up on her honest missteps & lessons learned while sharing how her troubled past sabotaged her desire to create a better life for young Lo. The Queen also reveals the deeper meaning behind why she was so adamant he learned how to dance and have rhythm at an early age and why Lo had to be in speech debate competitions from adolescence to his teenage years.   The episode does a deep dive into the importance of self awareness, overcoming traumas, setting boundaries while writing your own life script.   You’ll definitely laugh, relate, and even learn a few things to apply to your own life as they take you on their own personal journey with lessons learned.  Please be sure to rate, subscribe, review, and send to a friend (and maybe even an enemy) so we can keep this show on the road, kings and kweens! Lo’s Mama: Life Lessons Learned (Part 1)

The queen herself, a spicy Latina Yoda if you will, is joining Lo for today’s episode. Lo’s Mama is back in the home studio, and while she may be difficult to book, it’s always worth the wait. At a recent family gathering, with music playing at the dinner table (does everyone do this!?) and pickles on our tacos (we’ll explain), the topic of life lessons came up, and your host Lo knew that his mama had plenty of golden nuggets to share when it comes to valuable learnings. In part one of this conversation, the mom and son are opening up about some of the most important lessons they’ve learned throughout their years, including lessons learned through parenting, through experiences with bullying, and through conflicts at work and with friends.   Serious wisdom is dropped throughout this episode so you may want to grab a pen and paper if you’re old-school like that. The two are talking about why it’s so crucial not to let anyone else write your narrative, why we should be intrinsically motivated in our success and life in general, and how we can use our past experiences as our secret weapon to navigate the world. Lo opens up about his experiences with bullying growing up, and his mama reveals how she handled these situations at the time and what she wishes she would have done as she looks back now. No matter who you are or what you’ve been through, today’s episode will make you want to stop playing small and start shining your absolute brightest. Haley Fitzgerald: Pandemic Dating, Sexual Moves, and Never Settling (Part 2)

Lo lifers, you’re in for a treat this week because sunshine in human form, AKA professional dancer to Jennifer Lopez and host extraordinaire (guys... she made Lo cookies!), Haley Fitzgerald, is back on the show for round two. Haley and Lo begin their conversation by discussing how the dance industry is ahead of its time, especially when it comes to highlighting people of different races, shapes, and sizes. The dance community is also very open when it comes to sexuality because... well, have you seen the way these dancers move? While last episode was centered on how Haley got into the industry and what it’s like behind the scenes, this episode dives into all things sexuality and relationships, from hooking up with the artist you are on tour with to dating during a pandemic (spoiler alert: it’s not going well).  The two friends open up about the importance of open communication while in a relationship, learning to be happy while single, and their thoughts on staying friends with exes. And, while Lo and Haley have many things in common (like their love of Janet Jackson and struggles dating in LA), they reveal one thing they feel very differently about: Mariah Carey. Today on The Lo Show, your host is joined by dancer, singer, writer, YouTuber and all around great human being, Haley Fitzgerald! Haley and Lo, who became fast friends after a creepy nighttime adventure through the woods (don’t worry, we’ll explain), discuss the ins and outs of Haley’s career as a professional dancer, including her experiences touring with artists such as Jennifer Lopez (ever heard of her?) and Derek & Julianne Hough, and performing at Las Vegas residencies and even the Super Bowl. Lo is asking the questions we all want to know about being part of such a tough industry, including what happens if you get hurt on tour, whether Haley gets perks like unlimited room service and what people are actually bringing in financially when it comes to performing with the world’s biggest stars. Haley is an open book who truly wants to make people happy through dancing, and on today’s episode she’s sharing the good, the bad, and the ugly of her career and advice on how to navigate the industry at large.   The two end the first half of their discussion on a very important question: Is there a lot of hooking up in the dance world? To hear the answer and to get the Lo-down on Haley and Lo’s past and current dating lives, tune in next week where the two friends will be talking all about soLo pleasure, sexual voice-notes, exes, and more.   Check out Haley's YouTube channel here! Kate Casey: Cults, Sex Slaves, and the Psychology of Persuasion

Today, your host Lo is opening up the pod by discussing the season finale of America, AKA the not so United States of America, AKA the first couple weeks of 2021. As always, he’s sharing his honest and real thoughts no matter the topic, and this topic is one that can’t be ignored. Not so different from the current state of American politics is another topic... cults! It’s only fitting that a sex cult scholar and reality TV and documentary Queen, Kate Casey, is joining Lo for this episode to dive into all things NXIVM. You might know Kate from her podcast Reality Life where she interviews reality stars, producers, and directors from all the shows and docs you love, including those centered on the NXIVM cult. Kate and Lo discuss the differences between East and West Coast living as well as the current state of Orange County influencers before diving into the topic we’re all curious about: NXIVM, its members, and the leader himself, Keith Raniere. Kate describes how Keith was able to influence the rich and powerful, why she couldn’t have been recruited herself, and how the world of reality TV often mimics the always interesting world of cults. Plus, Lo shares his personal experiences with cults including Scientology and NXIVM and gets into what he thinks about the many NXIVM documentaries out there. Aren’t we glad Lo turned to podcasts instead of sex cults?  PS, Kate recommends: Outcry on Showtime Murder on Middle Beach on HBO Who Killed Garrett Phillips? on HBO A Wilderness of Error on FX Check out Reality Life, Kate’s podcast, here.
