Cynthia with Brittany Davis Host of Unchained Empath
Unchained Empath is a podcast birthed from Shame. It’s safe to say that we all struggle at somepoint with feeling “less than”. What I didn’t know at the time was that all I needed was to see mylife from a different perspective and give myself some empathy. When I did this, the mask I hadworn of an angry person was suddenly tossed to the side and I was able to then choose who Iwanted to be. I lived for so long with my perspective being, I HAD to be angry to protect myself. That perspective shift, showing myself empathy as well as finding my faith in God, changed mylife.

Cynthia with with Tenesha L. Curtis of WriterwerxUniversity.com
At (what is now called) University of Louisville hospital in Louisville, Kentucky early on a Friday morning in 1986, I was brought into the world. Healthy, happy, and the product of two loving, wise parents, I grew up with a strong sense of family and connection, even though I was an introvert! From infancy, books and storytelling were a constant in my life. My mother works at the Louisville Free Public Library, my father read to me each night while I was growing up, and both of them would often answer my (rather strange, I’ll admit) questions with anecdotal stories instead of a terse “yes” or “no.” The storyteller in me began to awaken. Ever stubborn, it wasn’t long before I pried the copies of Dr. Seuss purchased for me from the hands of my father and took over reading duties for myself. As I consumed book after book, I started to want to take over the writing reins as well. That’s how the stories I wrote in notebooks and on my computer at home came to be. I would share what I wrote with friends and family, getting critiques on plot, character development, and even spelling and grammar from my mother, father, aunts, uncles, classmates, and teachers. Since graduating high school, I’ve worked as a teacher’s assistant, telemarketer, psychotherapist, insurance agent, customer service rep, and cashier, all while writing on the side. In 2010, as I was starting my first job after graduate school and had just purchased my first home, I began helping people with their writing needs for money. From that point forward, I was hooked. The possibility of being able to make a living doing something that I would (and had) done for free was all the motivation I needed to start working toward a writer’s lifestyle. Today, I am the CEO and founder of Volo Press Books, which allows me to help authors with their book planning, writing, editing, and design needs.I started WriterwerxUniversity.com to offer literary education and support for screenwriters, novelists, poets, and other text-based creatives. My husband started Pleascentries and I took it over from him and turned it into a literary style shop, allowing writers to show off their love of literature with special designs just for readers and writers. Oh, yeah! I’m also an independent author myself! I have written in multiple genres, including psychological thriller, mystery, romance, erotica, fantasy, and self-help. I am slowly polishing and publishing the work I’ve been writing since I was a child so that I can get it all out onto the book market. Never miss an update! Follow me on Amazon, Goodreads, BookBub, and Facebook.

Cynthia witrh writer Cortney Holles
Cortney Person Holles (pronounced like Pierson and Hollis) grew up with teachers for parents and played school as often as Barbies. Somehow, despite her love for all things school-related, she thought she should become a medical doctor as a teenager, but some came to her senses in college. Instead of 8 years of chemistry, she wanted more years in college classrooms, especially those where she could sit in a circle and talk about books. She earned her Masters in English in 2003 and then started a family with her husband just after she got hired at Colorado School of Mines as an adjunct. She soon dropped the other adjunct gigs at colleges around town and devoted her teaching to Mines, getting hired full time as a professor in the Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences in 2010. Cortney was appointed to lead the freshman writing class, Nature and Human Values, shortly thereafter. This position included the hiring and professional development of 15-20 instructors who teach this required course and developing the pedagogy and content and assessment for all students. Her life took a turn when her husband sustained a brain injury and spinal nerve damage just as she was starting the path to earn her doctorate in education. Her elementary school kids and her care responsibilities and home life became her main focus for a number of years as her husband struggled and ultimately died in early 2017. Then there was another major shift in focus—being an only parent to kids entering middle school with trauma to heal from became Cortney's primary job. She stepped back from service to her department and called in lots of favors from family and friends. She got everyone to consistent appointments with quality counselors. She did her bst to keep up with her teaching load and responsibilities. Then, finally, after a 2 year hiatus, Cortney returned to her research for the doctoral degree despite the unforeseen and the unknown and was able to complete her dissertation in 2021, earning her EdD from University of Northern Colorado. Now, Cortney is in the phase of life where her nest is clearing out, she has new love in her life, and she is getting to work with amazing colleagues on the Teaching with Heart grant, extending her interest in student and faculty well-being research into communities of practice. She has finally allowed herself to call herself a writer (not just a reader who's pretty good at writing) and she is diving into writing poetry and memoir about her life and relationships to continue to process the juxtaposition of all the magic and pain, confusion and beauty in the world.

Cynthia with Antonia Tuni Deignan Author of Underwater Daughter A Memoir of Survival and Healing
June 17th, Father’s Day of 2018, only days after moving from Ohio to Indiana and into a community where she knew no one, Tuni went down shockingly and unexpectedly in a terrible bicycle accident. She suffered a compound fracture (bones poking through skin) through her right elbow and a neat break that split her left wrist in half which resulted in four surgeries, two titanium five-inch brackets, thirty screws, many months of round the clock opiates, and for the first time in her life, the inability to fully move her body. The accident happened not in her twenties or thirties, during her career as a professional ballet/jazz dancer. Nor did it occur in her forties when she was dabbling in weekend competitive running races, duathlons, triathlons, and obstacle course competitions. The Father’s Day accident blindsided her six ways from Sunday when she was fifty-five years old.Without movement in my wheelhouse, who was I? What next? Eventually, after half a year she titrated off of Oxycontin, addressed her heart, and began to write. And it was her childhood that came pouring out and onto the page. She faced the sexual abuse of her father, naming it and claiming it. With her time spent writing (all that she could do with both arms splinted) she began to understand better why she was so shut down, why she had so much difficulty standing up for herself, believing in her own self-worth, why she had sabotaged friendships, careers, and true love. The physical impacts of sexual trauma during her childhood, she discovered, had lodged in her bones, and buried deep into her cells. The emotional responses that went hand in hand with those experiences laid there as well. Quiet. The writing became a daily habit, a daily need. A creative pause, an opportunity for reflection, butt in the chair, fingers tapping, the words fell into sequences, sentences, episodes. They became poems, explorations, and difficult truth-telling. Slowly a story unfolded and unearthed the woman she had longed to be. Unafraid. Confident. Worthy. Not to blame. Allowed. Loveable. She made a vision board, a one-year, five-year, ten-year plan. Shared her writing, submitted essays, published. As her health returned, everything felt possible, and her time in the past of escaping into a dancer’s a wonderful but wordless silhouette transformed into her sixty-year-old self, realizing she had a lot to say and a lot to do. Today, she moves and dances her heart away. She added tennis to her repertoire two years after her accident, to strengthen her arms. (Her doctor thinks her recovery is miraculous.) She volunteers weekly at assisted living centers guiding seniors in meditation and body awareness. She holds weekly online meditation sessions followed by writing prompts to help women discover, examine and unleash their voices, their truths, their hidden traumas. She wants women to come out of their silent corners, be loud, and stand proud. Her memoir, Underwater Daughter comes out May 2, 2023, with She Writes Press, almost five years to the day of her accident on Father’s Day of 2018. Her memoir is available from Amazon, Bookshop, Barnes and Noble and other booksellers. More information can be found at www.antoniadeignan.com

Cynthia with Simona Mango a Certified Life Coach, Spirituality Coach and Intuitive Life Coach
I’m a certified Life Coach, Spirituality Coach and Intuitive Life Coach. I help women free themselves from the traps and chains that society, family, the schooling system, religion, tradition, and manipulative morals keep using, to stop them in their tracks and clip their wings. My approach to life is holistic. I see us human beings as energy beings, and I understand how a healthy body, healthy relationships, healthy finances, fulfilling activities, and a strong connection to our souls, are all deeply connected, and are all essential aspects of a blissful life. That’s why my main focus is on Life Purpose Mentoring. Over the past two decades, I have come to understand that our alignment or misalignment with our higher purpose is what will determine the outcome of our lives. And what I mean by “outcome” is how we feel about ourselves and about what we do. Also, how we feel about every moment of every day, and about getting out of bed in the morning. Life Purpose is often mistaken for what we should be doing, striving for, achieving no matter at what cost, in order to then become happy. But it’s actually the other way around. It’s about being who we want to be, and feeling the way we want to feel. Only then, out of that space, will we find the best and most inspired activities, careers, goals, opportunities, to unfold our natural talents. Our happiness is the only reliable indicator of our success, no matter what our curricula, Instagram, or our neighbours say.I can help you remember what it is, you came into this life for. Your reason, your desire, your passion, that will show you the path to joy and fulfilment – if you allow it to.I can help you recognise and accept your greatness.I can help you access your subconscious mind, and look for the limiting beliefs and blockages that are holding you back. And once we’ve identified them, I can help you clear them and replace them with the empowering truths you need, in order to get out of stagnation and doubt.I can help you look at your life from a different perspective. The perspective of your soul, as opposed to the perspective of your mind. Your soul sees everything with perfect clarity, and it will remind you of what your true life purpose is. I call this process: switching from the outlook of the caterpillar to the outlook of the butterfly.🔸 website: https://simona-lifepurposementor.com/🔸 instagram: instagram.com/simona_lifepurposementor/🔸 Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/simona-mango-coach/

Today, I am the CEO and founder of Volo Press Books, which allows me to help authors with their book planning, writing, editing, and design needs. I started WriterwerxUniversity.com to offer literary education and support for screenwriters, novelists, poets, and other text-based creatives.

Cynthia with Lauren Artress the Founder of Veriditas
Lauren is the Founder of Veriditas. She is the author of: Walking a Sacred Path: Rediscovering the Labyrinth as a Spiritual Tool (Putnam/Riverhead Books, New York), The Sand Labyrinth Kit, (Tuttle Publishers) and The Sacred Path Companion: A Guide to Walking the Labyrinth to Heal and Transform (Riverhead, 2006). Lauren is a priest of the Episcopal Church, and her home church is Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, California. From 1986 to 1992, she served as Canon Pastor and then as Canon for Special Ministries until August 2004. In May of 2006, her rediscovery of the labyrinth was honored by Grace Cathedral and she was designated Honorary Canon, a lifetime title. In 1991, while on a brief sabbatical, Lauren walked an informal taped labyrinth through the work of Jean Houston. The idea gestated for a few months and then she was compelled to go to Chartres Cathedral, where she moved the chairs and walked the medieval labyrinth. This courageous act has led to the rediscovery of the labyrinth. Lauren not only introduced the walking meditation back into the Christian tradition but also introduced the labyrinth back into Western culture. By December 1991, she had replicated the Medieval Eleven Circuit Labyrinth at Grace Cathedral beginning in canvas form. Due to the enormous response of people desiring to learn a walking meditation, the tapestry labyrinth was installed inside the Cathedral in 1994. The outdoor terrazzo labyrinth was installed in the Interfaith Meditation Garden in 1995. In 2007, Grace Cathedral installed a permanent limestone labyrinth in the floor to replace the tapestry labyrinth. Veriditas is storing the carpet until it can realize its vision of a retreat center where the tapestry labyrinth will once again have a home.

Cynthia with Dr. Elizabeth Rainwater and Dr. Latonya Rainwater are two Atlanta-based entrepreneurs, preachers, and educators
Dr. Elizabeth Rainwater and Dr. Latonya Rainwater are two Atlanta-based entrepreneurs, preachers, and educators. They have a background in psychology and spent years mentoring students in graduate school. They also have a background in ministry that stems from childhood and family roots. Their passion for education is a big part of their journey, which turned into teaching ESL to students in China online for an education center in Florida. In teaching ESL, Dr. Elizabeth, and Dr. Latonya witnessed firsthand just how important it is to not only make certain that students are learning the material taught, but that they are maintaining and expanding on it. While teaching it was clear that every student had different learning styles and that the curriculum needed altering to fit their educational needs. It was not intuition, but it was a tug on the heart, which led both educators and doctors to design their own educational and inspirational products as ELRSHOP. The name ELRSHOP stems from the first initial of Dr. Elizabeth and Dr. Latonya’s name giving their online shop a special and unique meaning. In the ELRSHOP, you can find coloring books, crossword puzzles, math, and grammar workbooks, and more. Age is no factor and there is something for everyone. All proceeds earned from each sale help support their ministry and mission work worldwide. Any way that they can educate and spread the gospel to people is a step in the right direction and helps them fulfill their purpose in life.

Cynthia with Lisa Marshall Business Coach certified by the International Coaching Federation
Lisa was born in Pittsburgh, PA in November of '45. For five years, because of her father’s work, her family lived in the Midwest. Lisa always felt that living in the Midwest was dreary and lonely, only moderated by summers in central PA where there was green, spaciousness and extended family. At six years old she contracted chicken pox, mumps, measles and scarlet fever, missing 80 out of 180 days of school. For Lisa it was a long, lonely year, and as a result of all that missed school, Lisa taught herself to read. To this day, she takes pride in being one of the fastest and best readers she knows.A graduate of Bennington College, Marshall is certified by the International Coaching Federation, and she has received additional certification in Conversation-Based Assessment™, Syntax Communication Modeling, Newfield’s Ontological Coaching, and William Bridge’s Transition Management. Prior to entering the business world, Marshall spent twelve years working as a documentary filmmaker. It is from that background that her fascination with story, and its power to transform real-life lives, took hold.Lisa is a nationally recognized expert, trainer, and speaker on leadership maturity and organizational development, and president of her executive coaching firm, The Smart Work Company. Marshall founded The Smart Work Company to help leaders develop critical communication and collaboration skills. For over twenty years, her seminars and trainings have offered executives a creative way to become more self-aware and tap into their potential through the power of story. She has coached individuals and teams at such firms as NASA, Intel, USDA, and Taiwan Semiconductor. Lisa is the author of Speak the Truth and Point to Hope: The Leader's Journey to Maturity and her recent release is Yin: Completing the Leadership Journey. On becoming a business coach Lisa states, “I realized that coaching was a much more effective way to improve people skills than training. And then the people I worked with kept getting promoted....so I ended up doing a lot of leadership and executive coaching.” One factor that helped was that her dad was in industrial advertising and strategic planning. She grew up around those conversations, and could easily transition engineer clients into thinking about business issues and long-range planning.Lisa is now a fierce elder and grandmother, who aspires to be a good ancestor. She lives with her husband on the Yin side of First Mountain, part of the ancient mountains that run along the eastern side of the U.S in central Pennsylvania. She has set up her schedule to have “off” and “on” work weeks. During “on” weeks she'll talk to clients from about 11:00 to 4:00 for several days. “Off” weeks find her focusing on family including her youngest grandson. She is fascinated by the idea of learning to listen to the natural world as well as she listens to her clients. Lisa understands the power of story, and that stories live in our bodies. And she is deeply committed to the idea that our purpose in life is always, whatever path we take, to grow up, to mature, to become an elder.

Cynthia with Leaders Marielle Hendry and Ashley-Coffey
MARIELLE I was born and raised in Colorado, and I'm a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Colorado. I am also a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer, as well as an ACE Certified Group Fitness Instructor. As a kid, I loved playing group sports, taking group art classes, and got really into playing music and joined marching band in high school, which is also how I met Ashley. Even though I was a shy, introverted only child, I always found myself participating in group activities and wanting to be part of a larger community. Ashley and I reconnected and started dating after college and were married last year. Through our years together, we realized how important our community was to us, and that contributing to the collective was greatly fulfilling. Cynthia with Susan Fries the Director of Community Engagement at Literacy Connects in Tucson,
Susan is originally from Texas, where she was born, raised, went to school, and earned a bachelor’s and a nursing degree. Susan has worked in a variety of nursing specialties: women’s health, reproductive endocrinology, renal transplant and research. Although serving the community as a Registered Nurse was rewarding, it was also exhausting for Susan, who felt her bucket was constantly being emptied and never replenished. In 2008, she moved with her husband to Tucson. She left her career in nursing and started looking for what might sustain her.Susan’s inquiry led her to a small nonprofit where she began to experience life a little differently. The freshness of being in a new town, with a new job, learning and working in new ways was exciting for Susan. She was feeling better about life, but as the novelty wore off, old destructive thought patterns returned. Martyrdom, resentment, judgement, anger, and shame began to creep back in to Susan’s mind and heart. On January 8, 2011, U.S. Representative Gabby Giffords and 18 others were shot during a constituent meeting held at a Safeway less than 5 miles from Susan’s house. Her husband, Randy, was the attending trauma surgeon at the hospital who received and cared for the victims. The collective grief that overtook Tucson was immense. Susan says, “The negative feelings that had returned were compounded by my anger and tremendous sadness. At work one day, a colleague asked me how I was doing. “Not good,” I replied. She suggested that I talk to her friend. Not a therapist exactly, but someone who might be able to help. An “empowerment coach,” she said. What did I have to lose?”After 10 years of working with her coach, what Susan has learned is simple yet profound: when you honor and love yourself, you fill your own bucket. And by doing that, amazing people and events flow into your life. Susan says, “My belief systems, my values, my self-worth, my relationship with myself, my intuition, and my Divinity are all subjects to be explored, treasures to be unearthed. I used to want to change the world as a distraction from changing myself. Now I understand the former is impossible without the later.”Susan is currently the Director of Community Engagement at Literacy Connects in Tucson, a nonprofit connecting people of all ages to a world of opportunities through literacy and creative expression. She is also working towards her Master’s degree at the University of Vermont in Leadership for Sustainability, a program grounded in the belief that the changes we create in the world are reflective of the changes and conditions we cultivate in ourselves

Cynthia with Janine Valentine Real Estate Transaction Coordinator
I became an entrepreneur March of 2017 when I created my own real estate transaction management. Real estate agents hire me to assist with all the details from contract-to-close such as document compliance, managing deadlines and schedules, and communicating with all involved parties. The work I do helps ensure smooth transactions, improves communication and customer service with buyers/sellers, and frees up valuable time for my agents to spend prospecting and growing their businesses. I understand that one process doesn't fit all, so I work with my clients to understand what they actually need help with and adjust their process to address those. As a result of this shift, I began calling myself a Transaction Concierge in 2018 (rather than the industry standard of Transaction Coordinator). This work requires a trusting relationship between the TC and the agent, and that is actually one of my favorite things about the work I do. I am very relational and enjoy creating community, which means that my clients not only experience my authenticity from day one, they also become part of my client community, leading to more genuine relationships and resources for them inside our Key TC family. Outside of my career, art resonates deeply with me and I am now dabbling in the world of artivism - expressing the change I want to see in the world through art. This creative side of myself brings a beautiful balance to the right-brained work I do. I also have major wanderlust so I travel whenever I can to participate in other cultures and expand my global perspectives.

Cynthia with Betsy Ambrams of Five Wellbeing Studio + Spa
Welcome! I’m so glad you stopped by. Five Wellbeing is the culmination of my life journey – at least so far – and my dream is that it supports you in learning to deeply care for yourself. Over my lifetime, I’ve experienced and experimented with many different methods of self-care. My late husband used to say that I “live my life like a spa,” so I guess that makes me something of an expert! But most importantly, it’s been a journey of self-discovery and personal growth, and it has led me to uncover a real need for nurturing in our culture. The memory of my husband’s questions – “What are your dreams? What do you really want?” – caused me to realize that what I desire is to capture the best of my experiences to create a space of self-care, nurturing and self-discovery for YOU.I spent more than 20 years in management in the food industry, followed by a stint as a therapist. The most valuable thing I learned in all of my business experiences is the importance of relationships, integrity and trust – really listening to my clients and giving them what they need. I’ve found that there are many ways to help people, but each person is an individual with different needs and it’s important to honor that. Through my many experiences, I’ve learned what feels good and right and what doesn’t, from the way I’m treated as a customer to the actual service itself. I’ve learned how to ask for what I want and how to get good value for my investment. All of these are the things I want for you to experience at Five Wellbeing. I hope you feel welcome and valued, heard and understood, nurtured and cared for. If you do, please tell your service provider. If you don’t, please tell me.Above all else, take good care of yourself and your wellbeing. I hope we become an integral part of your journey!
