Quick Bits: Murdaugh Status Conference. Leah v Scientology. Alec Baldwin Indicted Again!

The Murdaugh New Trial Status Conference that happened on Tuesday January 16th confirmed that the deliberated witnesses and Becky Hill will be questioned by Justice Toal on Monday January 29th. To get a new trial, not only do the witnesses need to state that Becky Hill had substantial conversations with them about the trial but that it impacted their decision. I'll be covering that proceeding, gavel to gavel. Also, on Tuesday 16th, Leah Remini v Scientology had a hearing to go over the claims made by both sides. Leah requested an injunction due to the overwhelming harassment campaign focused on her by the church. Scientology filed an anti-SLAPP motion to dismiss the entire case. No decision was made on the motions but I expect a decision to be made soon. Alec Baldwin was indicted on the charge of involuntary manslaughter in the state of New Mexico on Friday 19th January. This is the second time the state is charging Alec with the crime. The first time, the state withdrew the charges stating they needed more time to gather evidence. The state now has supporting evidence that the gun used was thoroughly tested and the hammer of the gun needed to be cocked back and the trigger pulled in order for the bullet to discharge. This podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Podsights - https://podsights.com/privacyPodscribe - https://podscribe.com/privacyChartable - https://chartable.com/privacy

Both sides have made it clear they will not go into mediation regarding this lawsuit, making a court showdown highly likely.David Miscavige, the ecclesiastical leader, claims he was never properly served by Leah’s team and should be removed from the lawsuit. Leah has requested the court place an injunction on the church of Scientology due to their continued harassment campaign against her. The manner of which has become so severe that by the time the trial is over, her reputation could be irreparably damaged. The Church of Scientology has additionally filed an anti-SLAPP motion claiming their reciprocal right to speech is based on public interest. The court has been so overwhelmed with their back and forth that they requested both sides to stop filing motions while the court takes the time to review and consider the current motions prior to the hearing. This podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Podsights - https://podsights.com/privacyPodscribe - https://podscribe.com/privacyChartable - https://chartable.com/privacy
