On Friday afternoon, the police were alerted to a disturbance in the 1200 block of Indiana Street. The situation escalated when the suspect fled the scene with the female victim, suspected to be taken against her will, as the Borger police were dispatched around 3:40 p.m. A vehicle matching the suspect's description was soon spotted by officers, leading to a pursuit towards Fritch. The chase came to a head near the Hutchison-Potter County line where, according to Police Chief Donnie Davis, the male driver was shot with a firearm found inside the vehicle. Reports from ABC 7 News confirmed that it was the victim who had managed to fire the shot. The suspect, wounded but alive with non-life threatening injuries, was rushed to an Amarillo hospital. The flaw is that when the trigger is pulled the bullets don't go where the gun is pointing, instead they tend to go a bit to the left. From what we've learned the problem seems to get worse with more use, and a quick internet search shows that this has been a known issue with these guns for at least the last 10 years and Glock still hasn't fixed it. Our firearms staff has run this issue up their chain of command and has been in touch with representatives at Glock and the only solutions they have offered is to tell them to instruct our members to compensate by aiming to the right of the target, and moving the sights on some of the guns so far to one side that they're hanging off the slide. Portable, reasonably reliable pistols, which could be used as a defensive weapon against an unexpected attack, were unavailable until about 1534 when wheellock pistols became available.  They were relatively expensive. Arms of the period were commonly privately owned. Some were likely used in defense against animals. Europe, at the time, had much wild land. Bears, except for those in captivity, had been eliminated from England. Wild bears still existed in the mainland of Europe. Bear attacks against animals that depend on people for their protection are much more common than direct attacks against people. From Kingston Police on Facebook: Shortly before 3pm this afternoon KPD responded to Hawthorne Road for a report of a black bear attacking a resident’s livestock (goat). Initial investigation appears to reveal the following: Upon the bear attacking the resident’s goat, the resident attempted to scare the bear away, the bear postured up towards the resident and the resident reported he was in fear of being attacked. The resident then shot the bear with his lawfully owned firearm. At that time, the bear fled into the wood line. Upon police arriving, we were unable to locate the bear. If you have a Ruger 10/22 in your hands, 100 yards is long range. If you’re shooting at a whitetail with a Remington 870 loaded with slugs, an 87 yard shot is long range. However, when you move west of the Mississippi River and the country starts to open up, long range with centerfire rifles doesn’t even begin until you are farther than 300 yards. Some would argue that long range doesn’t start until you are past 500 yards.  Regardless of your definition of what “long range” shooting happens to be, I think we can all agree that the primary goal of rifle marksmanship is to be able to hit your target with the first shot, on demand, regardless of the conditions or the distance. Seeley Oblander and her fiancé, Thomas Bolkcom, were awakened at 3 a.m. to one of their two dogs, Maizey, barking ferociously. While the couple initially brushed the howling off, figuring a raccoon or a skunk had caught the dog's attention, Bolkcom eventually walked downstairs to see what was going on after the dog would not stop making a ruckus.  When Bolkcom, a commercial painter and elk hunter, went to investigate and tried to coax the Labrador-pit bull mix downstairs, he found a "black bear standing in the living room five feet away," Oblander said. Wearing just a T-shirt and underwear, Bolkcom ran back downstairs, got a handgun and returned to the living room where he shot the bear. The suspect, identified as 55-year-old Charles Kevin Sexton from Ashford, Alabama, was seeking his ex-girlfriend, whom he believed to be at the location. The Dothan Houston County E911 Center received a distress call at approximately 12:20 PM on Saturday, July 29, 2023, reporting that the caller had just shot an intruder. The suspect had forced entry into the residence and assaulted another individual. Police accounts indicate that Sexton, a passenger in a vehicle that arrived at the scene, exited and aggressively forced his way into the house through the main entrance. Desiree Anderson, 32, also known as Cody D’Entremont, turned herself in hours after authorities issued a press release and mugshot seeking information on the suspect, according to the Windsor Star. Police began investigating Anderson on April 4 following a report from a woman who claimed the suspect had climbed into bed with her and sexually assaulted her while she was staying a women's shelter in Windsor. The bill ended up passing 33-14 (via the Associated Press): The bill does not usurp the federal requirement for a background check to buy a gun, and those with a history of crime or mental health issues that bar them from possessing a gun would still be barred under the Nebraska bill. But it allows eligible people to carry guns hidden in their clothing or vehicle without having to pay for a government permit or take a gun safety course, which is currently required. It also overrides stricter gun laws in the state’s cities, including in the state’s largest city of Omaha, which requires a conceal carry license for anyone carrying a gun in a car — even if the gun is in open view. Sen. Tom Brewer of Gordon — the bill’s conservative sponsor who has tried since 2017 to pass it — expressed frustration with the yearslong opposition to it and said his sole purpose was to ensure Nebraskans are afforded their constitutional right to carry guns. According to the victim, he and his wife were relaxing in a hot tub outside a home near Nathrop Saturday night when he felt something grab his head. “He and his wife began screaming and splashing water at the animal.
