Art student Geoff moves in and assumes the role of surrogate parent until, misguidedly, he sends for Helen and their unconventional setup unravels. First published in Germany during the early 1930s, Emil and the Detectives tells the story of a young boy who leaves his small town and sets off on a journey that will change his life. This film looks at author Erich Kästner as well as the cultural and political context that surrounded the creation and publication of the book in Germany. Emil and the Detectives had its final performance on 18 March.
