Welcome to Just Break Up

Hi! Welcome to Just Break Up: Relationship Advice From Your Queer Besties. Sam & Sierra may not be therapists, but they will tell it to you straight (even if they aren’t). Patreon Episode - April 29, 2020 [Gaslighting]

Just Break Up family -  Sam's mother-in-law passed away earlier this week. We know the entire JBU community is behind us when we say we are so deeply sorry for this loss, and extend our love and sympathy to Sam's husband Peter. In lieu of a primary episode this week, we're going to share a Patreon episode from this past April. We'll be back next week, but until then, hold your loved ones close, tell them you love them, and move through this week with gratitude and kindness. We love you! Learn more about your ad choices. In Solidarity

In solidarity with the protests happening in our beloved city of Minneapolis and across the world, we will not be releasing an episode this week. We demand justice for George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, and countless others murdered by police. They should be here today and they aren't because of white supremacy and state-sanctioned violence. Not uploading an episode is a moment of silence at best. Typing Black lives matter is not enough. The real work comes when we begin to actively dismantle white supremacy within our communities, our governments, and ourselves. To our listeners who are Black, Indigenous and People of Color: We hear you. We see your grief, anger, and exhaustion. We love you and we will work to ensure that love is manifested in actual actions. To our white listeners: We must not be complicit with racism and murder. We cannot be silent. We must be active participants in the dismantling of white supremacy and systemic racism. If you do not understand why this movement is happening or where the outrage is coming from, it's time to self-educate. It's okay if you are new to this but do not let your discomfort keep you from the truth. We all have the opportunity to grow and do things differently. Lean in. Speak out. Donate. Show up. We've compiled some of our favorite resources that have helped us in our ongoing unlearning of white supremacy. That being said, to quote Rachel Cargle: "Anti-racism work is not self-improvement work for white people. It doesn't end when white people 'feel better.' It ends when Black people are liberated."
