About
Enough with the dating content. Single people deserve more than constant suggestions that they're lacking something, or failing at something. Let's stop approaching single status like it's something that’s wrong with us, because while we're so focused on trying to "find someone," we're missing out on enjoying this time in our lives. A Single Serving Podcast is changing the way being single is seen, discussed, and experienced. Relationships are amazing, and we deserve to have them. We just don't deserve to be miserable in the meantime.

SUMMERTIME SPECIAL

Twice a year I like to give this audience a peek behind the Patreon curtain. This episode is a preview of an hour-long solo episode that was very popular among my Patreon listeners, and it's one of my personal favorites as well. If you are single and struggling to find dignity in it, both within yourself and within a couple-centric society, I hope you enjoy, and I hope you'll consider joining us on Patreon, where your $5/month membership gives you access to new episodes EVERY MONDAY, as well as access to the private, Patrons-only Facebook group for this podcast. You will also have access to the full, four-year archive of Patreon episodes, as a reminder this podcast stopped publishing to free-access platforms in January of 2021, but I haven't slowed down a bit. ;)   Link to join my Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/shanisilver Link to this full episode: https://www.patreon.com/posts/podcast-episode-78082880Link to To Be Magnetic & 15% off: https://login.tobemagnetic.com/a/2147524106/FpPofgPdShani's book: A Single Revolution: Don't Look For A Match. The Vilification Of Single Women - Happy Holidays From Shani Silver

A Single Serving Podcast publishes ONLY on Patreon every Monday morning, but once a year I like to gift subscribers who have found me throughout the year with one Patreon-only episode as a way to show you what you can expect from the podcast. I hope you enjoy one of my absolute favorite 2022 episodes, The Vilification Of Single Women. This episode does not hold back, it does not mince words, and it is DONE with the BS narrative that single women are a threat to married women's relationships. NOPE! We are done being vilified, and we are done moving through the world on eggshells so that we don't upset a married. It's an intense one and you know what—it should be. Because single people are not villains, and partnered people are not superior. Period. Shani's Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/shanisilverShani's book: A Single Revolution: Don't Look For A Match. A Wedding Ring Is Not A Diploma

This one's different, friends! This month's public episode of A Single Serving podcast is actually not for my audience, it's for friends and family members who know and love a member of my audience. This episode is designed to be shared with someone you love to help them reframe singlehood for themselves in the same way that we've reframed it for ourselves, so that maybe this year at the holidays no one asks us "how are you still single?" Hey, we can try! If you're someone who loves a single person, listen to this episode if you'd like to be kinder to and more respectful of them moving forward. This episode is presented with love and in the hopes that we all have a very happy holiday season together.  This podcast publishes publicly and for free once a month. Transactional Love

Tonya Carter is a Relationship Transformation Coach joining the podcast to discuss life post-divorce and post-relationship. We explore authenticity, moving through our stories as opposed to becoming stuck inside them, and how transactional ideas of love aren't serving us in singlehood or in relationships. This episode also begins with a listener-inspired deep dive into "you're too picky," both how to respond to it and how to process and reframe it in our own minds. The Announcement Episode: I Did It

Bonus Episode!! In this very special episode recorded while evacuated from an actual hurricane, I am thrilled to share the news that I've been keeping to myself for months now. I WROTE A BOOK!A Single Revolution: Don't look for a match. Light one. Publishing THIS OCTOBER, A Single Revolution is all the support I've ever wanted to give the single community. It challenges every negative, false narrative about singlehood and replaces them with a complete reframing of how we're allowed and able to view and experience being single. It is not a book about dating. It is a book about living. Visit shanisilver.com to join my email list and be first to know when it goes on sale! Join my Patreon for access to a FULL READING of the book's introduction in an episode published September 6th, 2021 titled Shani's (Extremely) Special Announcement. You'll also have access to every podcast episode I've ever published, new episodes of the podcast every week, and access to the private Facebook group for Patrons only. For $5 per month, that's a steal.  Single women deserve a book that doesn’t assume we’re a negative. A Single Revolution doesn’t assume you’re unfinished, flawed, or doing something wrong in the dating space just because you’re single. If it makes any assumption, the book assumes you’re going to feel a LOT better by the time you’re done reading it. Don't F*ck Up

In this very special episode of A Single Serving Podcast, I am joined by podcast listener Christine Po, a Dermatology Physician Assistant based in Atlanta, Georgia. Christine reached out as a listener and her email was one I wished I could have shared with you all—so I made it a podcast episode instead. This is for anyone who has ever felt entirely alone in never having been in a relationship before, anyone who's ever experienced racism in dating, and anyone who has ever felt like there was just simply something wrong with you for being single. Spreadsheets & Serendipity

Alex Kruger is a writer who recently published an essay with The New York Times’ Modern Love column.  What’s the “right” approach to dating? An organized and thoughtful effort, or a hands-off attitude that lets what will be, be? Or…are both Alex and Shani 100% right? This episode is FULL of explorations into modern singlehood, and all the little idiosyncrasies and anxieties that come with it. What Do You Want & Why Do You Want It

Damona Hoffman has been a dating coach for over 15 years. Is this a podcast about dating? Nope. But it is a podcast about real discussions that are relevant to singles, and it's a genuinely joy to have Damona's wisdom on the podcast this week. We get into our own experiences in dating as well as explore some of the common misconceptions that surround the singlehood space. We'll also get into the disruptions to singlehood and dating that have resulted from the rapid, continuous evolution of technology. This episode also begins with your host Shani Silver answering a Patron question that's vital to understand as we move toward more positive singlehood mindsets, and Shani welcomes back her first guest ever, Jessie Jolles, for a brief chat on her newly launched TV pilot, Forgotten Animals. It's a long one, but a GREAT one. Thank you for listening. So much of society’s opinion of singlehood (and our own thoughts on singlehood) comes from the messages we receive about it. Dr. Jessica Moorman is an Assistant Professor of Communication at Wayne State University studying media and the messages communicated to singles, specifically single Black women. Our discussion covers a range of messages single women receive, and the effects they can have on the single community, as well as personal strategies to employ once we’re aware of the messages we’re taking in about our single status. Dr. Moorman’s research and insight are both fascinating, both new and longtime listeners of this podcast will enjoy what she has to share very much. Dr. Moorman’s websiteDr. Moorman on InstagramDr. Moorman on TwitterTherapy For Black Girls: Reimagining Single LifeTherapy For Black Girls Single Life During The Pandemi***Important Changes To A Single Serving Podcast For 2021***shanisilver.comShani on InstagramAnti-Racism Resources For My White Friends & ReadersPodcast logo by Johanna PendleyPodcast hosted on BuzzsproutTranscript of podcast via OtterSupport the show

Single Is Not A Bad Word

*Please scroll down for VERY IMPORTANT INFO about the podcast in 2021Debra DiGiovanni, oh my god. This Canadian comedian and all around ray of light has been admired by your host since the release of her Netflix special, Single Award Female. Her warmth, authenticity, and of course humor are a welcome addition to the podcast this week, as we discuss the themes that have impacted us so much during this dumpster blaze of a year. From work upheavals to discovering what it's like to be alone, no for real this time, this is an episode for anyone who's spent 2020 single, and wants to wrap up the year with feelings of gratitude and love.  Also if you enjoy laughing, press play. Debra DiGiovanni Twitter Debra's Ho-Ho-Ho Holiday Show on December 18thDebra on InstagramDebra on the Social Distancing Social ClubBeginning January 1st 2021, the following changes are happening to the A Single Serving Podcast community:A Single Serving Podcast will publish on Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify, etc for free 1x per month. All other weekly podcast episodes will still be published, but they will only be available via Patreon, at the $5 per month tier. They will always remain ad-free. The original podcast Facebook group will be shut down on January 1st, 2021. A NEW Facebook group for Patreon Patrons will take its place, and patrons at the $5 tier & up will be given access to it. If you are already a Patron at the $5 tier and up, you don’t need to make any changes! You will be emailed soon with a link to the new Facebook group, should you want to join it. We will still have all the community and support, just in a new spot! Joining this new community is VERY EASY: You can get full access to all podcast episodes and the new Facebook group by becoming a Patron at the $5 tier here. I set the new Facebook group and podcast episode access at $5 per month because I wanted this new community to be an affordable investment in the way we feel about our own singleness each month. I believe all women (especially single ones!) should be fairly compensated for their work, and I include myself in that belief. These changes will ensure that I’m able to devote much more of my time to creating content for you and to changing the negative narratives around being single. There are SO many things I want to do and create, but I am currently maxed out at what I’m able to manage without a paid community structure in place. How To Feel Better About Being SingleCouple's Don't Need To Be Miserable For Single People To Be HappyAnti-Racism Resources For My White Friends & ReadersPodcast logo by Johanna PendleyPodcast hosted on BuzzsproutTranscript of podcast via OtterSupport the show

Where's My Duct Tape?

Tiana Madera is the host of Torch, a personal development podcast about how we lead—both others AND ourselves. She's a remarkable voice to listen to if you're in a space of growth and self work, and it's a pleasure to have her on the podcast today. A quick Content Warning: Tiana and I both discuss body and weight as we've experienced anxieties and concerns around them, our experiences come from our perspectives as individuals, we're not giving prescriptive advice on body image, we are instead discussing our own process. In addition to that, expect to hear us talk about our perspectives on singlehood happiness, jealousy, finance a little bit (!), and the self work we've both done and continue to do that we've found productive and positive as we move through our lives and careers. Astrology Needs Feminism

Jessica Lanyadoo is an astrologer, podcaster, writer, and co-founder of Zodiac the Vote. She's also one of your host's favorite voices in the astrology space, so pardon her while she fangirls. This episode is a discussion of astrology that's unlike what you're probably used to hearing on podcasts. We're not talking horoscopes, we're talking narratives, specifically the narratives we've picked up around astrology and singlehood. In exploring the origins of those narratives, we can get more clarity on how we choose to consume and interact with astrology, and we can discover diverse voices in the space that give us a more comprehensive look at astrology overall. Jessica Lanyadoo's websiteGhost Of A PodcastAstrology For Real RelationshipsShani's essay about solo Thanksgiving. shanisilver.comA Single Serving Podcast Facebook GroupShani on InstagramAnti-Racism Resources For My White Friends & ReadersPodcast logo by Johanna PendleyPodcast hosted on BuzzsproutTranscript of podcast via OtterSupport the show

You Are Not Wrong!

Solo episode! In this episode, your host Shani Silver will get into changing narratives around a few specific singlehood moments including window shopping (those people who don't want to date you but view every single one of your Instagram stories) and wrongness (the feeling of always being somehow wrong and in need of change or fixing in order to be worthy of love).  Lots of reframing advice and some VERY real words for anyone currently settling from scraps (I said it) of attention. There's Always An Upside

Jen Gotch, founder of ban.do, mental health advocate, and champion of optimism, just wrote a book. The Upside Of Being Down was released last week. A longtime professional and personal inspiration to your host, this episode with Jen is a powerful reminder that truly, no matter what happens, it's important—and comforting—to find the upside. The Upside Of Being Down by Jen GotchJen Gotch on InstagramJen's Dad on Instagram Also mentioned in the episode: Attached by Amir Levine & Rachel HellerThe Untethered Soul by Michael Singer A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle ban.do wellness workbookban.do sticker booksshanisilver.comShani on InstagramA Single Serving Podcast Facebook GroupSome links above are affiliate links. Host's Note: This episode was recorded prior to self isolation, restricted travel, and the cancellation of essentially everything. It's important to me to publish this anyway, because while life feels completely upturned at the moment, with responsible action on our parts it will return to normal soon. His F*cking Gallbladder

Lynn Ruth Miller is a standup comedian who is happily single, funny as hell, and 86 years old. This is an hour of conversation to listen to if you've ever felt uncertain or fearful about the future. Lynn Ruth shows us, as single women and as human beings, that the future never stops being bright. It is also incredibly powerful to hear from her about so many dating themes she encountered that are, perhaps unfortunately, still true today. We are not alone, we never are and we never were, and Lynn Ruth Miller is a beautiful example of how we can do whatever we want, whenever we want, for as long as we want, and that's f*cking fabulous. Two trigger warnings for listeners: Lynn Ruth discusses both domestic violence and eating disorders in this episode. The theme of this episode is headspace. Where's your head at with being single? Many questions posed to the podcast center around "how to deal" with aspects of being single, but the root of a lot of those questions is often the way we think about being single in the first place.
